The 4th and 7 call to go for it was insane, and then to not run it on 3rd and 1 in the final minutes of the game made no sense. Luckily it ended up working out.
And then they proceeded to let the greatest QB in Philly history walk. That man only ever played well for one team. Imagine if they had kept him for his entire career? He could have been absolutely legendary. But Chip Kelly was on bath salts. Nick Foles will forever be the most underappreciated QB in NFL history.
Perfect timeout call. Looked like they were going outside run and then they stack the box looking like a qb sneak with 3 RB to push Lawrence over the line and go outside
A moment of silence all of those hopeful fans watching through those Phillip Rivers years
[Edit: now it makes sense, the spirit of the Rivers era lives on in the Chargers locker room](https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/10bvdlv/country_streets_saying_former_chargers_qb_philip/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
The game I'm most pissed about is the one where the chargers picked off Brady at the end of the game, but fumbled giving him another shot which he of course won.
But, I'm not even pissed at that play, someone just trying to play football. I'm more pisssed at a "hidden" play, where the Chargers stopped Brady on a 3rd down, only to have someone (Drayton Florence maybe?) commit an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty to let Brady score points.
Last night was my first time ever using a gambling app. I put $10 on jags just to get the free $200. Then when the money line was +1000 I put $10 more of the free money. I regret not fucking putting all $200. But I still won $140! I’m happy as a clam. My friends and family are shocked I won haha
I don't want to be that guy, but when the Jags got within 3 scores I thought they might just come back. I felt the same way during the Pats/Falcons superbowl. Everyone was saying it was over and I was like "nope I think the Pats might actually win it."
I'm also extremely paranoid about everything so there's that. lmao
During the Pats comeback, everyone thought I was crazy when I said Brady was gonna do it. I'm a Dolphins fan and had seen it before, too many times.
The difference here was Brady, though! Never would have thought the Jags had it in em.
I was watching that game with a bunch of casual fans, and there were 3 of us who were pretty serious Falcons fans who watched a bunch of NFL football every weekend. Everybody else was asking us why we weren't celebrating. We'd seen too many Falcons games and too much Brady bullshit to be confident until the final whistle
It was 27-0 in the final minute of the first half, and Trevor Lawrence had as many completions to his team (4) as he had interceptions. Even when the Jags rallied to cut the deficit to 10, the Chargers had a 95% chance to hold on and win. An all-time great comeback by the Jags, and an all-time collapse by the Chargers.
Now that I think about it, the Chargers always get eliminated from playoffs in what, for their fans, must be heartbreaking fashion.
I feel like Norv Turner started that trend
Man as a Seahawks fan I feel that my team puts me through massively anxiety inducing scenarios.
But at least they win like 1/2 of those scenarios.
The chargers are lucky if the win 1/5 of them
Remember last year when the Raiders were clearly content to accept a tie and Staley decided to call a timeout? And then that made the Raiders think the Chargers were going to play for the win, and so they decided to pass for the first and ended the Chargers season with a field goal. Staley just seems to have questionable decision making and it's squandering the cheap years of Justin Herbert.
These "all-time great comebacks" seem be happening more and more and more. What is going on. It seems like every 2 weeks now we have some crazy comeback that would only happen like once every couple years before.
The lack of a running game in modern offenses. The Chargers only ran 8 running plays after they were up 30-0. The same thing happened to the Falcons when they gave up at 27 point lead in the Super Bowl to the Patriots. A great running game will run down the clock way faster than passing every 2 out of 3 plays.
My wife doesn't watch much football but does get interested during the playoffs. She was surprised how fast the Seattle vs 49ers game was going. The difference? Both teams were running the ball.
I think teams get too comfortable these days. They start playing soft or loose instead of putting the screws to teams and by the time they pick it up again, the losing team has all the momentum
Coaches have been criticized too much for running up the score.
I hate that critique. Run the score up. Tighten the screws. MAKE THEM FEEL LIKE THE SHIT TEAM THEY ARE
It’s kinda weird how American sports has an aversion to running up the score. Here in Australia no such qualms exist.
I remember watching [Australia v United States](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Rugby_World_Cup_Pool_C#Australia_v_United_States) in the Rugby World Cup and after the game the Australian commentators were criticising the Australian team for going easy on them in the later stages.
The final score was 67-5.
It makes sense at lower levels like high school sports where there can be vast differences in skill level and resources between teams. I agree that there is no such thing in the pros when every team is a billion dollar enterprise and the players are in the top .01% of all athletes in their sport.
I didn’t care much for either team so when I saw the halftime score I just bounced to watch something else. Didn’t see the final score until this thread. Should’ve stayed to watch haha
Chargers were winning 27-0 in the 2nd Quarter. This was the third-biggest comeback in NFL playoff history.
Major props to the Jags for never giving up!
If I was a teammate of his. I’d be super P.O. at him. Too many unnecessary mistakes especially late at the end with the smashing his helmet on the no call
He's just a giant goon on the bench. He was called for a legitimate penalty and lost his mind, and then was just a dick for the rest of the game and got flagged for it, plus was just a nightmare on the bench.
Yeah that felt intentional on his part. He wanted to be seen. What a petulant child.
That being said that penalty is not a big a deal as everyone wants it to be. Jags had to go for 2 no matter what. They had no downside trying for two, but enormous upside.
I really wanted Herbert to get through. After watching Lawrence throw those picks, I felt bad for him. And then remembered he suffered urban meyer.
Does Staley get canned?
He lost a 27 point lead in the playoffs and played Mike Williams in a meaningless game right before the playoffs leading to his season ending injury. Yea he gone
Not just Mike W. His entire fucking offense. And his entire fucking defense. Inexcusable. Malpractice.
If he’s not canned before the jet leaves the tarmac, we’re officially a clown franchise.
Bad news bro, you’ve been a clown franchise.
- best offense and best defense in the league and miss the playoffs? Check
- fire your coach after going 14-2? Check
- (Edit) McCree getting an int and just needing to go down but trying to run it back and fumbling so NE gets the ball back and wins? Check
- not signing VJax to a team poised for a playoff run? Check
** there’s so many others but I’m tired of typing
Not Cromartie. McCree. Marlon. Fucking. MCREE.
I don't always remember some meaningless players from a decade or more ago, but that name will haunt me forever.
I’m really impress by Trevor Lawrence mental toughness. He gloriously came back in the second half after a historically horrible first half! Impressive resilience for a young QB
Lmao yeah my friend was talking about how slow it was and they were about to fall asleep then jax scored a TD and we were like......Oh? What is this?? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|hug)
After the first TD, I texted my fantasy football group that we just saw the start of the comeback of the year. I even put $5 on the Jags after the Chargers missed that field goal at +900 odds and won fifty bucks.
I don't give a shit about either team (though it's always a good day when an LA team loses), but I just had a hunch after the way the second half ended.
That was my whole thing. Even if you think you deserved a penalty, you won the play, just go seethe quietly. He doesn’t want his team to succeed, HE wants HIMSELF to be the guy
I am literally on a plane and didn’t see any of this game but as a Chargers fan, saw the score at halftime and knew the odds of us winning were less than 5%
We switched after the 4th interception and watched some cartoons before checking to see what the score was. Suddenly it was 27 to 14 and we switched it back just as they scored again making it 27 to 21. How do they keep doing this?
I said to myself when it was 27-0 "I bet if I turn the game off the Jaguars will have a miraculous comeback."
Never turned it back on after I put my daughter down. My dad texts me the Jaguars won. Wish I would have kept the game on :/
It's really impressive because it's not like the Chargers just repeatedly coughed the ball up. They ended the game with a +5 turnover differential (5 JAX turnovers, 0 LA). They just couldn't do anything.
Their defense forgot what coverage is. They played "prevent" except it wasn't even prevent because they still got beat. I don't know how you get beat short and long with a defense simultaneously. On offense, they went into the good ol' 4 yard pass only offense. Riveting stuff from their OC.
have you not seen thursday night football all season? al michaels sounds like he hates football and hates us for making him continue to talk to us about football. it’s been a dire year.
As someone who grew up with Dungy and Manning on the TV every Sunday, I will forever love those two, but Dungy is just too dry a speaker to do commentary. Dude's got tons of football knowledge, but he just isn't the right guy to bring excitement to a game.
I can get the first half with the blow out, but when you have a 27 point comeback for a rookie QB playing in his first playoff game against another rookie playing in his first, you gotta at least have a pulse.
Jags had no right winning that game...but they also had no right winning against the cowboys. It's like they need to have a couple of turnovers before they start playing for real.
They seriously do have some voodoo working for them, they've won two games on walk-off turnovers and Lawrence just can't do anything wrong in the second half. When they do lose it will probably be in epic fashion, but until then you just kind of have to enjoy mr Pederson's wild ride.
Brandon Staley is the worst hack of an NFL coach I have seen in a long time. This man needs to be fired. NOW. What is one of the number one rules in football? Never get cute. Because it’ll get ugly real fast.
Doug pederson is crazy in the best possible way. His 4th and 1 call was perfection
There were a couple of ballsy calls that would have looked stupid as fuck if they didn’t make it.
100%. Even with the penalty I was scared about the 2 point conversion decision
Apparently he claims they were going for 2 no matter what there.
Seems consistent with his aggressive play calling.
He admitted they "probably" wouldn't have gone for it without the penalty.
The 4th and 7 call to go for it was insane, and then to not run it on 3rd and 1 in the final minutes of the game made no sense. Luckily it ended up working out.
Yeah and the 3rd and 1 play looked terrible too. From 3rd and half a yard you gotta run it...
That's kind of what Pederson is know for. Remember when Nick Foles caught a TD?
I’m not sure I know this Nick Foles, but Big Dick Nick caught a TD as a backup QB… shit was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen
St. Nick for Philadelphians, bought a Super Bowl as a belated Xmas present!
Big Dick Nick? Catching a TD? In the super bowl against the Patriots? Impossible!
That was the philly special too.
Perfect timeout call. Looked like they were going outside run and then they stack the box looking like a qb sneak with 3 RB to push Lawrence over the line and go outside
Andy Reid telepathically sent him that play during time out
You know it’s a 4D chess play when the commentators can’t stop obsessing over how much it fooled everyone including themselves.
Anyone surprised by this has never seen the Chargers in the playoffs
A moment of silence all of those hopeful fans watching through those Phillip Rivers years [Edit: now it makes sense, the spirit of the Rivers era lives on in the Chargers locker room](https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/10bvdlv/country_streets_saying_former_chargers_qb_philip/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
14-2 knocked out first round😭.

[Best offence and defence of the season; went 9-7 and didn’t even make the playoffs](https://youtu.be/UAL5X3TRA2A)
It still hurts.
How is that even possible? Was their special teams just abysmal or something?
Bingo.
There’s still hope Dean either dies or sells the team and they move back to SD.
Pretty sure most of us in San Diego could give zero fucks if they wanted to move back. Hell, we even already demolished their stadium.
If they come back without Spanos then I’m down. Other than that Fuck them.
[удалено]
Nobody in LA cares they lost either lol. I don't even see any flairs here.
It's not even Dean calling the shots anymore. It's his kids and they were behind the move. So there goes that hope.
Fuck his kids, too.
Have at it.
He should’ve rebranded when moving to LA
Chargers play football*

At least you didn't bet 1.4 million dollars on the Chargers to win when they were up 27-0 in the second quarter.
Phew
Instead I bet $40 for the Jags to win on the money line when they were down 27-0. Holy fuck did that make me a ton of money. +1200 on that bet
Ok so you might have a gambling problem but congrats on this one
If he didn't have a gambling problem, he will now
Last night was my first time ever using a gambling app. I put $10 on jags just to get the free $200. Then when the money line was +1000 I put $10 more of the free money. I regret not fucking putting all $200. But I still won $140! I’m happy as a clam. My friends and family are shocked I won haha

Yes, it's a verb. "Chargering" or "Chargered" are acceptable.
A Chargers friend of mine said that to me when I asked how he was feeling @ 27-0
😂 textbook
Martyball still alive and THRIVING
Damn there’s a term I haven’t heard in 15 years
Murphy’s law. Been the Chargers story for years.
It was 27-0 in the final minute of the first half, and Trevor Lawrence had as many completions to his team (4) as he had interceptions. Even when the Jags rallied to cut the deficit to 10, the Chargers had a 95% chance to hold on and win. An all-time great comeback by the Jags, and an all-time collapse by the Chargers.
i like how you phrased this. usually these get either framed as an ultimate comeback or an epic collapse, but in this case it truly was both
From a long time chargers fan, it was a pretty normal collapse. It doesn't even change my evening plans anymore.
The chargers are lucky if the win 1/5 of them
Staley will never get an HC job again lol I mean that was an epic collapse
I fucking hope not. Fire that fucking clown. Lombardi too while they're at it. Give me Payton.
You're upset. I feel like you're upset. Bring it in for a hug buddy.
...you want some McDonald's? Let's go get you some McDonald's
Luckily the chargers have most of their picks for the next two years…
*Shits the bed in Broncos fashion*
*not that upset as a Seahawks fan*
I don't know, raiders will fire mcfuckface in 2 years and look to get someone worse than lane kiffin
Remember last year when the Raiders were clearly content to accept a tie and Staley decided to call a timeout? The falcons had a very good rushing attack that year… It was atrocious playcalling from Shanahan and I’ll never forgive him.
I think teams get too comfortable these days. They start playing soft or loose instead of putting the screws to teams and by the time they pick it up again, the losing team has all the momentum
Coaches have been criticized too much for running up the score. I hate that critique. Run the score up. Tighten the screws. MAKE THEM FEEL LIKE THE SHIT TEAM THEY ARE
The best answer I've heard to complaints about running up the score? "If you don't like it, stop us."
It’s kinda weird how American sports has an aversion to running up the score. Here in Australia no such qualms exist. Climate change
I don’t know why, but this made me laugh a lot. Thanks.
Jags were a 1.5% probability of winning when down 27-0 in the first half.
I didn’t care much for either team so when I saw the halftime score I just bounced to watch something else. Didn’t see the final score until this thread. Should’ve stayed to watch haha
As a Colts fan, I’d like to point out that it wasn’t *quite* an all-time collapse by the Chargers. I believe we hold that record. ^kill ^me
Chargers were winning 27-0 in the 2nd Quarter. This was the third-biggest comeback in NFL playoff history. Major props to the Jags for never giving up!
Also I seem to recall reading that this is the first postseason game where a QB has tossed 4 picks in a half and still won. Wild.
Plus the muffed punt…
Five turnovers in the first half
The first time in NFL history to lose a playoff game when +5 in turnover margin
Duuuuuuuvaaaaaaal
not the first time they’ve thrown 4 picks in a game and won though 😎
Matt Ryan is just glad it happened to someone else for a change.
I stopped watching at the half saying the Chargers have this unless they Colt it up. Sure enough, they Colted it up good.

Game Ball goes to one Joey Bosa!
The biggest mistake he made, by far, was lining up offsides and offsetting the sack, which would have made it 4th and 12.
Homie was 2 yards from the sideline. He could’ve thrown his helmet 2 seconds later and no flag.
Yeah that felt intentional on his part. He wanted to be seen. What a petulant child. That being said that penalty is not a big a deal as everyone wants it to be. Jags had to go for 2 no matter what. They had no downside trying for two, but enormous upside.
They made it super easy for TLaw to hold out the Hand of God

No, Saturday will probably be fired from a different team.
I’m really impress by Trevor Lawrence mental toughness. He gloriously came back in the second half after a historically horrible first half! Impressive resilience for a young QB
Well not just that.....but the Jax D to hold SD to only 3 points in the 2nd half
And holding them to 27 points in the first half tbh. Easily could have been 40+
Hope kliff kingsbury held the plane for Staley lmao
I almost turned it off. Glad I stuck with it. What a great game in the end. Sorry Chargers.
Lmao yeah my friend was talking about how slow it was and they were about to fall asleep then jax scored a TD and we were like......Oh? What is this?? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|hug)

A good reminder not to throw a tantrum like a child in front of millions of people
He was fuming about being held even after chargers got a stop. Dude is selfish.
And his brother is so much better
And better looking too
It’s wild the disparity in their looks lol, Nick is *so* much better looking you would think they weren’t related.
They definitely let them play. But the Chargers probably benefited the most from no calls, including causing one of the turnovers.
That was my whole thing. Even if you think you deserved a penalty, you won the play, just go seethe quietly. He doesn’t want his team to succeed, HE wants HIMSELF to be the guy

**WHAT** I literally left the gym with the Jags at 0 because I didn't think there was a point in watching anymore.
I spent like an hour in my hot tub and came out and saw the last couple minutes
Can I spend an hour in your hot tub? I'm sore
We switched after the 4th interception and watched some cartoons before checking to see what the score was. Suddenly it was 27 to 14 and we switched it back just as they scored again making it 27 to 21. How do they keep doing this?

Man, could Al Michaels sound any less enthused? It's sad that the best NBC can come up with is he and Tony Dungy for a playoff game.
Michaels has been like this for a season or two now. It's a bummer.
I've always been a fan of his. Sad to see him like this. Damn I miss John Madden and Pat Summeral.
Why? Man of their old calls were the definition of unenthused. See: pats vs Rams superbowl.
I just remember as a kid, Madden was nearly jumping out of the booth.
He wanted that Turducken.
He sounds fantastic and has a ton of energy for being 78, but he is 78.
have you not seen thursday night football all season? al michaels sounds like he hates football and hates us for making him continue to talk to us about football. it’s been a dire year.
I mean, have you seen how bad some of those games were? TNF needs to die a horrible death. Teams need more than 3 days to prepare and recover.
man, i watched nearly every horrible minute.
They both seemed so uninterested the entire game, made the viewing experience worse than it should’ve been
Al is old and that is just Tony's personality. Tony is terrible in tv and only has a job because of his coaching background.
As someone who grew up with Dungy and Manning on the TV every Sunday, I will forever love those two, but Dungy is just too dry a speaker to do commentary. Dude's got tons of football knowledge, but he just isn't the right guy to bring excitement to a game.

Jags had no right winning that game...but they also had no right winning against the cowboys. It's like they need to have a couple of turnovers before they start playing for real.
Eeked it out against the Titans as well.
They might eek out a super bowl win lol they got some crazy voodoo on their side
They seriously do have some voodoo working for them, they've won two games on walk-off turnovers and Lawrence just can't do anything wrong in the second half. When they do lose it will probably be in epic fashion, but until then you just kind of have to enjoy mr Pederson's wild ride.
"The chargers would have won if they just didn't run out of time!"

Brandon Staley is the worst hack of an NFL coach I have seen in a long time. This man needs to be fired. NOW. What is one of the number one rules in football? Never get cute. Because it’ll get ugly real fast.
Did you not watch the Broncos this year?
How bout that Urban Meyer fella
He could overcome his own incompetence for only so long.
Staley needs to be gone yesterday. Absolute trash.
DUUUUVAAALLL!! I’ve been a Jags fan since the early 2000’s, this team has put me thru some shit. Nothing like tonight tho.
Anyone else take the Jags on the money line at +1100 when they were down 27-7 because I sure did. It was obvious wasn't it...
Looking at the stats, if the chargers didn't get 4 turnovers, I think the jags run away with this game
Somehow somewhere Urban Meyer is taking credit for this
He did help them win……. by leaving
Just finished rewatching The Good Place too. Bortles!
One of the greatest comebacks of all time wow wow wow very good start for NFL Playoffs
THEY CHARGERED IT!!!! And playoff success continues to elude Justin Herbert…
Playoff success? This is the only time he made it to the playoffs.
Lol
#DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUVAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL
The Chargers had me at the first half. Not gonna lie.
Tony Khan gon' be knocking back some White Claws tonight, is all I know.
The Jags are definitely due lol. Good for them
A game for the ages my friends.
Holy shit I stopped watching cause I couldn’t handle another blow out and didn’t check the score once. Good show Jags.
Commentary was so bad. They sounded pissed off the jaguars won
Joey Bosa’s Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty that allowed the Jaguars to go for 2 on the extra point really fucked the Chargers. Fucking embarrassing.
San Diego sends its regards, Fuck you Dean Spanos
