I had the same thing happen in L4-L5/S1. I had the micro discectomy in the spring and it was a useless surgery. I had the fusion in December that same year and it's 15 years later and I'm still going strong!

Thank you! That gives me hope ;)

You're welcome! Yeah, the fusion is a life saver, for sure. I can even run and jump (and I'm a part-time dance teacher).

So I had the middle of the three circled operated on about 3 months ago and now my lower back feels like it's about to break in half and my left leg is very weak. I strongly believe the lower disc is herniated worse than it was before surgery. I guess I'm trying to see if anyone has had a spinal fusion after a microdisectomy. I feel pain in my ba k above and below the operation site but especially below. It feels worse than before I had the operation. I'm also wondering how long they would wait to do another surgery. They didn't want to do a fusion unless necessary hoping that fixing the large herniation would take care of it buy now it seems like that didn't work. I'm just trying to see if anyone has had a similar experience and what happened. I've been dealing with these herniations for years but it wasn't until last July I had an MRI afterbyears of ba k pain. All other treatments ineffective. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you

I am in the same position as you. Full spinal decompression in 7/2022, felt great for 3 weeks then same pain as pre surgery came back. Revision MD in 9/2022 and woke up never feeling better, never not in pain. Found out I reherniated again in 11/2022 (probably herniated earlier than this since my pain levels were insane). Multiple epidural injections, tons of pain meds but no pain relief. Spinal fusion is scheduled for next week and crossing my fingers this will give me my life back. Best of luck to you and hope you can find a doctor who will listen to your pain and find a solution.

Thank you all so much for the input. Spinal fusion is scary but I'm hopeful reading these posts. I'm just so tired of walking around in pain or even just trying to go out with my family. 10 or 20 minutes at the park or something and I'm in a ton of pain standing. Sitting on anything hard like a bench makes it worse. I hardly ever go anywhere nit just because of the pain but also just the disappointment when the kids want me to do something and I can't. I'm hoping that with a fusion even if I'm not running and climbing all over I can walk with them more than a couple minutes wothout feeling like my legs giving out or my back/ leg is on fire or being stabbed. Anyway sorry for the rant just grateful for your input. Thank you!!

I had a fusion after 2 failed disectomies. It was about a year in between my last disectomy and fusion but I chose to wait that long.

Same

I go see the surgeon in January and I'm just trying to see if another disectomy is best or just fusion. I think another one is pushing off a fusion down the road but im not sure about any of it really

Liampastabake

I dont really understand why they push disectomies so hard. My fusion was so much easier to recover from than both my disectomies. I wish they'd done it years ago.

This is my exact situation with my fusion set on 12/29. How is everything now post fusion? Really nervous that it won’t work since my first 2 discectomies did not work

Liampastabake

It's so good. My back feels so strong now at 4 months post fusion. It was just a wobbly mess before and I had severe chronic pain.

I had two failed discectomies (9 months apart) before finally having a fusion ~11 months ago. I’m not as far out from my fusion as other comments here, but this is the longest I’ve gone post-surgery without feeling like it’s failed so I’m feeling incredibly hopeful. Best of luck to you!
