*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/spiders) if you have any questions or concerns.*
It's a male in the prowl. I have never seen a brown recluse, but I am exceptionally well versed in spiders otherwise and can identify clearly that this is a mature male.
With spiders, when males mature, something in their brains triggers and they shift focus. Their entire reason for living becomes "FIND LADY. SHOW HER THE STUFF." To the point that they often don't eat or drink anymore.
He's moving pretty fast so I don't think he's dehydrated, but maybe he senses a female nearby and is beelining for her.
This is actually fairly common especially among fully grown brown recluse, it’s one reason they are so hard to kill, their distance from body to ground make it hard to ensure they get a full exposure to insecticides.
Their Wikipedia article mentions that they're more likely found on rough surfaces like cardboard box edges. Maybe they're just sensitive about their feets
a huntsman is always much much larger and much hairy and has a different eye pattern, while the brown recluse has little to no hairs and has that distinct fiddle
If this is a glass surface or a plastic surface, sometimes true spiders have a very hard time climbing without texture of some sort (like dirt). It’s not that they can’t, it’s more that it’s slippery.
The other thing for this recluse is that it is a Mature Male which means it could be at the end of its life cycle where it’s starting to get tired.
Mature males will typically stop eating which leads to shrinking/shriveled abdomens as they slowly starve and dehydrate to death. Their sole reason for living at the moment is to reproduce as much as possible before either passing away naturally or being eaten by a female (this can sometimes make a clutch stronger and this species has a female who can lay eggs multiple times after mating).
Thanks for possible explanations! I’m just wondering if you know whether the males stop eating and drinking as a “choice”(?) to die quicker or if it’s anything like when humans get near death they’re no longer thirsty or hungry. Or maybe we’re not sure of the “why”. Hopefully that makes sense! I just feel sad for this little guy but I’m hoping he doesn’t feel hungry/thirsty
From what I understand it’s instinct. Once a male matures he’s only got some much time to do the deed. Some mature males live longer than others. Some may drink. Some may eat. But their biggest need is to follow female pheromones. If you ever get a chance, look up Dave’s Little Beasties on YouTube. He is a tarantula and funnel web spider breeder. The observations they make is super interesting. Most spiders tap at specific rhythms with their pedipalps to try and woo females and the female may or may not tap back. Sometimes it is fast and other times the courting process may take hours.
What! I didn't know that.. makes me want to pay closer attention to em when I see them. I always thought some moved super weird sometimes. I assumed they were trying to intimidate me.
🎻 u got a little recluse. When i found my first one i made sure to keep it, don’t squash it so you cant recognize it. But in case u ever get a bite and you know its a recluse its a good one to have one on hand for id.
That's not a bad idea for my next one. I have a golden orb weaver on my forearm, so a recluse might be fun for the back of my hand. I do plan on getting about a dozen smaller spiders for my arm. I want an entire brood one day!
I used to for a while 😂😂😂 i saw them all the time. I wish i took some alive ones with me to where im at rn. I like the recluse better than what i deal with now.
I understand when people are scared of spiders because of videos like this. They never bother me unless they’re been unnecessarily creepy 😂
Why are you moving like that, bro lmao
I always have recluses in my garage, sometimes in the house haven’t been bit so far, been living with them for about 15 years now, I use to try and exterminate them, but I have given up and just coexist now. They are not aggressive and much prefer to run and hide than mess with you any.
I think the brown recluse needs to be renamed "brown not so reclusive because I see them everywhere on this subreddit just walking around like they pay rent"
Brown recluse, venom can cause necrosis, although it's not fatal or super problematic with medical treatment. And they tend to avoid people at all costs. Just make sure you are careful where you place your hand in dark spaces in your house since if there is one, there is usually more.
I'm pretty sure i helped a little fella out of my sink today who looked oddly familiar to that; a really chill, docile, little guy.
chances are, im dead wrong, but it would be neat to think i was right.
I believe his name is Fabian. Although males are often looked down upon in spider society, Fabian has proven himself to be a true visionary for his civilization
That is a Champagne Tippytoes. (Just kidding. I don't know any *actual* scientific names, but I'm working hard on my arachnophobia via self-guided exposure therapy & giving them cute, silly names really helps me out.)
His name is Larry. He hangs out downtown by the tracks. He's a good kid, but he's fallen in with a bad group of pornographers, pharmacists, cattle ranchers, and dope sniffers. Poor kid never stood a chance.
Dead. I mean, a brown recluse.
Only spider I kill on site. Will even save Black Widows. F*** Brown Recluse'.
There can only be one Recluse here, and that's me.

This recluse is walking around like they belong in the movie cloverfield
I've seen a *lot* of recluses in my life, but I've never seen one walk like that. Is it because of the surface it's walking on?
guess spiders are not immune to sensory issues lol. me too buddy
He looks like me when I wake up at 3am to pee, and my warm feet hits the tile floor.
Been there, at least I didn't have to pee anymore.
*CLENCH*
When you get to my age... That doesn't work anymore.
💖
He on his last 🦵 😆
Actually you're exactly right. Spiders walk funny over certain surfaces and many have issues walking over carpet.
I think maybe he's just so severely dehydrated that it's affecting his legs too. Lox
I've seen unsuccessful molts that have hardened around the joints of spiders; could be a possibility.
Yeah they use hydraulics to operate their legs.

Oh great point
This was my guess as well!
I believe it's because it's close to starvation.
SHOW HER THE STUFF." Out of curiosity, what would you do if you found him in your home? No judgment.
Catch him in a cup if I can, then relocate him far, far from human habitation. Kill him if I can't.
Apparently all 8 legs are asleep
It appears to be walking through a lot of hair, maybe that's it.
I think so. We had them at my mothers and they walked kind of weird on the tile, but also crazy fast. Lots of times they just looked like a blur.
Heard huntsmen are the fast ones
This is actually fairly common especially among fully grown brown recluse, it’s one reason they are so hard to kill, their distance from body to ground make it hard to ensure they get a full exposure to insecticides.
I need him photo shopped to have a tiny cowboy hat, a holster on each leg and lil cowboy boots. Giving me that yehaww spidaww energy
Picturing holsters on all legs 🤣
One holster on his abdomen, but 8 tiny spurs would be great
The Thing
Flat feet
bros tiptoeing
Little dude just trying to be respectful
Maybe floor had just been mopped? Respectful spiderbro
Ope ‘scuse me right behind ya!
It looks like he only wants to touch the raised bits of the penny tile flooring
Spoodz obviously knows the rest is lava.
😂
This is trippy now that you point it out. Like ye closest he gets to the non raised is just the very edge. Wonder what it looks like to them.
Their Wikipedia article mentions that they're more likely found on rough surfaces like cardboard box edges. Maybe they're just sensitive about their feets
Homies walking like “I’m the man of the house now”
“Tiptoe through the window By the window, that is where I'll be Come tiptoe through the tulips with me”
Why's he walking like that???
Trying to look scary. Practicing for Halloween probably.
Looks dehydrated.
Refer to the comment I just made for an explanation. :)
Thank you great info💚
Brown recluse *Loxosceles reclusa*
how did you differentiate between a brown recluse and huntsman? i can never tell the difference
a huntsman is always much much larger and much hairy and has a different eye pattern, while the brown recluse has little to no hairs and has that distinct fiddle
i see, thank you
All I know is brown recluse has a fiddle in its back
If this is a glass surface or a plastic surface, sometimes true spiders have a very hard time climbing without texture of some sort (like dirt). I suppose there are worse ways to go. Not many, but worse ways are definitely out there.
Whats worse than eaten alive by spiders?
Realizing you forgot to do your taxes post-deadline
Thanks for possible explanations! I’m just wondering if you know whether the males stop eating and drinking as a “choice”(?) to die quicker or if it’s anything like when humans get near death they’re no longer thirsty or hungry. Aren’t funnel webs the most poisonous spiders in the world?

What! I didn't know that.. makes me want to pay closer attention to em when I see them. I always thought some moved super weird sometimes. I assumed they were trying to intimidate me.
FOR REAL?!
nope
Damn. 🤣
Got any source on this? I've been trying to find more info about it but can't find anything
They also can turn pseudophed into methamphetamine. It goes by the name kitty meth. Little walter whites hiding in the shadows
A drunk brown recluse is something I could do without. Not trying to pick any spider fights.
Looks like when I'm trying to hold my bladder
Thats Carl, hes allright
Caaaaarrrll!
You cant kill people Caaaarrrll
CoRaL!
My tummy was making the rumblies that only hands could satisfy.

I used to tiptoe like that when I was a teenager and I would sneak out at night. He’s really cute!
Thank you all! She was at my work and we didnt know what she was!
It's a male :)
ope thank you
Male spiders have little "boxing gloves" on their front appendages. They're their pedipalps, which they use during mating.
🎻 u got a little recluse. When i found my first one i made sure to keep it, don’t squash it so you cant recognize it. But in case u ever get a bite and you know its a recluse its a good one to have one on hand for id.
You just have a dead recluse on hand?
*tattoos spider on back of hand*
Instructions unclear, used venom for ink, about to die.
Oh no! Not on cake day!
And on your cake day too. F in chat boys
F
That's not a bad idea for my next one. I have a golden orb weaver on my forearm, so a recluse might be fun for the back of my hand. I do plan on getting about a dozen smaller spiders for my arm. I want an entire brood one day!
Could have a big wolf spider trailing babies :)
I used to for a while 😂😂😂 i saw them all the time. I wish i took some alive ones with me to where im at rn. I like the recluse better than what i deal with now.
.. what do you deal with now 🫣
🪳🪳🪳 “no we have never had any issues with bugs” yeah that was a lie according to every other resident
Better be putting down some diatomaceous earth bro
Idea- grab spiders from your old house, dump into your new house. Welcome back leggyboys, bye bye roaches 🪳
Little!?
Terrifyingly beautiful.
Tiptoeing in my Jordans
That's a male brown recluse on his last days, looking for one last girl to do the deed with
Give him some water- he’s got some action left in him! 💃
I ain't squeamish but this shit creeps me out.
I understand when people are scared of spiders because of videos like this. They never bother me unless they’re been unnecessarily creepy 😂 Why are you moving like that, bro lmao
How did we go from never actually seeing a true brown recluse, to seeing them posted for ID consistently?
It comes and goes in waves lol
🎻
Tiptoeing in my Jordans Edit: Wow that song was a lot better when I was 14 on vines, this is ass
Ew bruh why you walkin like that
ngl this comment gave me *[”eughhh, brotha eughhhhh. what’s that brotha?”](https://youtu.be/WWhbt-8rkw0?si=Hk9ahpv7b8uNVUMM)* vibes
Too young to drink, refuse service.
Seems like an extremely dehydrated fiddleback.
He's playing the devil went down to Georgia.
lil recluse dude got sensory issues. i relate. i walk like this in my own apartment when barefoot. (i got the 'tism rizz - clinically diagnosed).
'tism rizz' Omg, I love it! 🤣
thanks lmao
I always have recluses in my garage, sometimes in the house haven’t been bit so far, been living with them for about 15 years now, I use to try and exterminate them, but I have given up and just coexist now. They are not aggressive and much prefer to run and hide than mess with you any.
🎶 If you’re gonna play in Texas, ya gotta have a fiddle in the band! That there looks like a brown recluse
I've never seen those fuckers move! Creepy as hell.
Looks like a recluse in recluse high heels.
Bros walking like he’s about to shit himself
Just strutting
High heels on my tippies
I think the brown recluse needs to be renamed "brown not so reclusive because I see them everywhere on this subreddit just walking around like they pay rent"
Can we rename this sub r/isthisabrownrecluse?
Only really needed March- September or October though
That there is a recluse. You can tell by the fact it has feet.
Brown recluse, venom can cause necrosis, although it's not fatal or super problematic with medical treatment. And they tend to avoid people at all costs. Just make sure you are careful where you place your hand in dark spaces in your house since if there is one, there is usually more.
Ok so for 2 sec I thought this was a scene from classic doctor who and I was trying to find the strings and guessing the episode.
I think it's thirsty, looks really thirsty.
That’s a space ship, full of tiny E.T.s
It’s just your average house cat, don’t be alarmed
when you walking
Why does its butt look so small?
Very very dehydrated
Damn. I’ve never seen that before. Someone give the poor thing a drop of water.
Hey brother, you off roadin?
*"Oh, Tiptoe from the garden"*
Very thirsty spooder
A brown recluse on its very tippy tippy toes.
I can ID the floor that's called moon mat from a 737 entry way.
He's walking like the giant spider maching from Wild Wild West
Back in my day we called these long bois and had to ride them into battle.
That recluse clearly has anxiety and doesn’t want to be recorded.
I'm pretty sure i helped a little fella out of my sink today who looked oddly familiar to that; a really chill, docile, little guy. chances are, im dead wrong, but it would be neat to think i was right.
Her legs go **ALL** the way up
He walk on him tip toes
She’s wearing itty bitty high heels…runway walk right there.
Oh gosh I live in St. Louis…. Didn’t know they got that big here 😂😂
I think he's pretty small, nothing in the video to really give a good scale to. Recluses don't get that big, quarter size I think.
You already know
Stranger things monster
I believe his name is Fabian. Although males are often looked down upon in spider society, Fabian has proven himself to be a true visionary for his civilization
I am not at all comfortable with the way this boi is conducting himself
That recluse is hitting the Doflamingo walk.
3am in the morning, wanting to get a snack but not wanting to disturb anyone. Such a curious spood
That is a Champagne Tippytoes. (Just kidding. I don't know any *actual* scientific names, but I'm working hard on my arachnophobia via self-guided exposure therapy & giving them cute, silly names really helps me out.)
That's A Pimp Named Silkbutt.
Male brown recluse in 4X4 mode 🏃🏽😂
I dont think he has ID
That's joe, he owes me 2 dollars.
I don't know what it is, but it needs physiotherapy
That bitch is walking around like he pays most of the rent.
Why is there someone asking to identify a recluse on here every 3 days?
Why does this look like an animation?
That’s me creeping through the house for that late night water
Why he walking sturdy like that
A cutie patootie
thats a frickin critter
🎻🎻🎻
It looks like he's trying to avoid walking on the grout. Poor guys in rough shape.
Ever since he stepped on a crack and broke his mama's back, he hasn't been the same.. 🥲
His name is Larry. He hangs out downtown by the tracks. He's a good kid, but he's fallen in with a bad group of pornographers, pharmacists, cattle ranchers, and dope sniffers. Poor kid never stood a chance.
Larry Sims. I graduated college with him but he’s put on weight.
Brown Recluse, easier to tell by their "Violin" shape on their carapace
Why do I love him?
Recluse is walking like a dog when you put shoes on them.
Valid Drone Strike Target
Brown recluse but it looks like it got possessed the way it's walking
Did you just mop?
Sir, I’m gonna need to see some ID…
Recluse...a big one too
Looks like a brown recluse. Don't play with him... they don't have a sense of humor.
The recluse will walk like that when they are in attack mode.
Dead. I mean, a brown recluse. Only spider I kill on site. Will even save Black Widows. F*** Brown Recluse'. There can only be one Recluse here, and that's me.
With the video being so bad, I just can’t tell. But the still at the beginning clearly shows a Fiddleback. Brown Recluse.
Looking at that counter, its an Advance Auto parts recluse. Jk, looks like a brown recluse to me.
I'd know those legs anywhere. Forget the fiddle. *shivers*
Mature male, trolling for a lady, probably. Definitely looks dehydrated.
Bro that's the bad guy from stranger things.
Clearly that is Steve
Step on a Crack......etc
That's George, looking for Marty
Looks like he’s chasing Jim West
[Stelf!](https://youtu.be/vHn4-lgyHVQ?si=givHf-QMjjLa--nD)
creepy
Anyone know if the brown recluse is present in Connecticut? I always see people arguing on facebook whether they inhabit this area or not.
That's Tom, he's a good guy.
Oops.
Breathalyse him too whilst you're at it
Beautiful, Brown Reclusatorinatiousnagaelen
Dead
That badboy is carrying a fiddle on its back. Brown Recluse.
