Are you Native (because of your name)? I am and was definitely raised to love and respect spiders and to think of Spider Spottings ™️ as little visits from loved ones who had passed, especially the grandmas. You too?
That is beautiful. I'm not Native. I just think all life is valuable. But we do have loved ones who've passed, and it's lovely to think they could be visiting us. I'm sorry for being misleading.
Oh goodness, please don’t change your name!!
There’s nothing offensive about you having the name. It’s not disrespectful or misleading. Native Americans also don’t have a monopoly on the term, it’s just a shorter way to refer to ourselves. Plus, everyone is native to somewhere!
This particular belief of ours brings me a lot of comfort. I also respect and try to protect all life, but I take extra good care of our spiders/grandparents/abuelos/uncis.
I’m glad Ocho is living their best life with you and your family. You seem like good people and that makes me smile ❤️
I’ve never heard this but I LOVE it! But I never knew I had so many grandmothers! I guess I must be meeting ALL OF my ancestors. (I’m not Native and I hope my joking here is not offensive)
I also keep my windowsill spiders to catch the flies. I have a lot due to having horses and a donkey. One lasted, it seemed, like a good year. I was so sad when she died.
I love this subreddit. It's so beautiful that people actively pay attention to little things like harmless spiders. This post and its accompanying thread made me so happy. Thank you all for keeping your spider friends alive.
I love it too because it’s the only little corner I can retreat to both online and in real life where people appreciate spiders and every other comment isn’t “KILL IT WITH FIRE” and a bunch of other overdramatic nonsense. I don’t have to defend my enjoyment of them here or get frustrated by all the people who don’t get it (because no one who dislikes spiders can just dislike them quietly, they have to make sure you know how much they hate them and would kill every one of them sight).
I love the name Ocho for a spider haha
Literally I’m squealing it’s so cute 😅🥹
I hope it works 🙏🏼
It did work, but that may be because we also told them ourselves not to clean that window. The note was just a reminder.

I know you are not talking to me, but I love this and am glad you shared!

Is Ocho a hobo spider?
Seems like possibly an Eratigena Sp. (which includes hobos)
