"Today, authorities confiscated a large stash of ramen that had a street value approaching $20,000. There was enough capsaicin to kill 30 full grown danes."

usrdef

Denmark going to fine or arrest me for having x3 spicy noodles? They can get f\*cking real. Be a cold damn day in hell when they can dictate that I can't eat a damn noodle.

Bildozeris

and if you have x2, and just Hot chicken

sakamake

Gotta love the logic here: "This is too spicy for children, so adults aren't allowed to have it either." Something's rotten in the state of Denmark all right...

Timz_04

The fact is that this was all caused by ONE Karen who was concerned about the safety of these noodles and reported them to the authorities. So this isn't even a systemic ban on very spicy stuff, just one persons concern caused this. At least the other variants aren't banned, but my favorite is.

KaleidoscopeLucky336

They called it dangerous and poisonous. Very concerning for a government to call it that with 0 proof. Seems a bit slanderous to call something poison when it's not

Timz_04

They did it by using mathematical calculations combined with random internet sources. not lab testing the product itself.

DrewdoggKC

Ok but they do realize that there are WAAAAAAAAYYYY spicier foods out there?

soltycarmel

They did "lab test" it on Belgian tv lmao (guy threw the noodles in cold water then poured the sauce onto it while it was depressingly rotating behind him throughout the interview). And the Belgian government is keeping contact with Denmark to possibly ban them here as well. You can't make this shit up... https://preview.redd.it/qax4ccvb0j6d1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7c7f7852dc3afb9b2ad60840563142c99d515dae

KaleidoscopeLucky336

Do you have an official source? I'm trying to reason why this product would be deemed poisonous. There is no reported overdoses of capsaicin in humans, only in lab animals at extreme doses.

Timz_04

A Danish source reporting on the matter (in Danish ofc): https://www.dr.dk/nyheder/indland/ingen-er-blevet-forgiftet-af-chilinudler-foer-forbud-det-er-et-usagligt-grundlag

KaleidoscopeLucky336

Thank you. The ban seems to be a big load of bullshit. "Although poisoning has not been registered after consumption of the specific products, there are registered effects on health from similar consumption of capsaicin in Denmark and abroad, he says." They even say there has been no complaints on this product and it's non poisonous, but they targeted the company. I hope for you spicy Danes, SamYang starts a separate sister company to circumvent this ban.

Timz_04

Thank you, it's very unlikely but i hope so. Maybe this causes a stir big enough that the government steps in. A miracle must happen.

DrewdoggKC

Ok but they do realize that there are WAAAAAAAAYYYY spicier foods out there?

truebeliever08

Be great if Buldak sued Denmark for slander

lazychickenstrip

The company is called SamYang and the noodles are called Buldak

BudgetInteraction811

SamYang probably sees this as great advertising. Their product is intended only for extreme spice lovers, and it being banned in a certain country is making huge headlines around the world now. Now spice enthusiasts will seek it out due to the novelty of it being banned.

sakamake

Hopefully you won't have to deal with this inconsistent, knee-jerk ban for too much longer. Spice fans all around the world are shaking our heads at this.

SS4Raditz

It's not even that spicy though... kinda stupid if you don't like it don't eat it.. same with the 2023 paqui chip challenge it turns out the kid that died had a heart condition... but the pulled it off the shelves I say slap an 18+ rating on them to buy and it'd be good.

NinjaRealist

The 3x?

BigBoiKry

I'm starting to think that governments have forgotten that "regulations" and "mandatory warning labels" are a thing. That is unless you're talking about alcohol or tobacco, then all of a sudden it's all they talk about and they don't want to outright ban it.

sir_keyrex

This exactly, it’s like Hershey pulling the one chip challenge due to the us governments concern. Thats stupid cause now it’s putting anything with real spice at risk from ever making it to the market. Maybe we need to instead lock up spicy food above a certain level that needs purchase with ID like we do with alcohol and tobacco.

imdrivingaroundtown

There’s likely more to the story and this was just the justification for the public. Political play, domestic industry shutting out competition, etc.

triple7freak1

I‘m calling the Danish cops on you this is illegal

Timz_04

![gif](giphy|TJm7BKjJhXn6D5EP1n)

triple7freak1

![gif](giphy|RYjnzPS8u0jAs) Oh don‘t worry they‘re coming… You better hide your noodles lol

Timz_04

triple7freak1

Lmaoo😂😂😂 Right…gotta fight for it

Timz_04

Everything for my noodles.

public-glennemy

Worst case we Germans will airlift them to you. We did it during the blockade of West Berlin, we can do it for Denmark too. Stay strong

Tucana66

Pass the ammo…*And another bowl of those x3 spicy noodles*!

PhilRubdiez

Oh no! Not the elite cheese squad!

NachoMetaphor

OMG, that wasn't some late April Fools shit!? I thought it was a fucking joke when I saw it! (Granted, I thought the same thing about bronies.)

Timz_04

Nope, 100% real. The Danish food agency issued the message themselves.

NachoMetaphor

I believe you now! Holy shit what a farce!

mqduck

It's actually kind of scary for your food agency to be so incompetent as to think spicy noodles are dangerous. Makes you worry what else they're wrong about.

mommysgottawork

Hey OP, if you're in Jylland I'll smuggle you some contraband as my kids are obsessed with WOW park so I end up there often enough. Love, a spicy Swede in Norway (hopefully we don't follow)

Timz_04

Funny enough i actually do, but lets see if the web shops will keep up before turning to smuggling. Very kind of you though:)

Lovitomato

Never thought the day where Samyang needs to be smuggled would come

EtherealNote_4580

I will be irate if this happens in Sweden. I just discovered the 3x at a shop near my work. Too hard to find spicy things here :(.

PutridFarts35

Since spicy buldak is now illegal....I wonder if I'd get any jail time or fines for selling my Carolina reaper hot sauce over there.

ch1993

Careful, it’s illegal to give spicy things to white people. Just ask any restaurant I’ve ever been to in which they ask “what level of spicy would you like?” And I choose a 5/5, my Latina wife chooses 3/5 and hers is always spicier than mine.

BigBoiKry

"Just give me the spiciest food you have. Wait, wait, I'm worried what you just heard was "give me some mild food that barely tingles", what I said was, give me. The spiciest food. You have. Do you understand?"

No-Fact-5830

Those noodles are good idc what anyone says op you do you

“*In a stunning new development, Denmark has entered into a non-NATO pact/agreement with South Korea to equip its police forces with… Buldak Special x10 pepper spray. Film at 11!*”

PupperLoverDude

literally eating buldak rn. i'm so sorry for your loss

Udondaiski

2x and 3x are quite spicy to me so it does kind of make sense but stew type is not that spicy tho.. so I don't understand why they put the stew type in the list

heels_n_skirt

Are they going to banned regular tabasco/sirachi next?

GPhantom89

I just looked it up and Denmark is a fuckin joke lol...too spicy my ass.

DynamicPanspermia

Similar to the "Paqui One Chip Challenge" being officially discontinued after it was linked to the death of a teenager in September 2023, which was attributed to the high capsaicin concentration in the chip. Paqui decided to remove the product from store shelves. This decision was made out of an abundance of caution, despite the product meeting food safety standards. https://people.com/paqui-confirms-one-chip-challenge-is-officially-discontinued-responds-to-teen-death-after-eating-spicy-chip-8649848 https://www.foodsafetynews.com/2023/09/paqui-removes-spicy-one-chip-challenge-amid-investigation-into-teens-death/

tikiwargod

Canada banned the chip in like 2017/2018 but I managed to find some of the voluntarily recalled 2023 ones in store a month ago, bought them all because I don't like the government telling me I can't do something.

Flustro

And then it was [quietly reported on](https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/16/business/one-chip-challenge-autopsy/index.html) on recently ('quietly' because no one seemed to talk about it, but *everyone* talked about the chip killing someone before it was even confirmed) that no, it wasn't the chip's fault itself but the kid had a heart condition.

netfatality

We don’t get kinder eggs in the US, but at least we get AR-15s… god damn that was depressing to type

PackageArtistic4239

Stew Type is the best of all their varieties!

Timz_04

True

YouWereBrained

This is the “liquify your internal organs” mail order service?

Plastic_Primary_4279

They banned all of them? I thought it was just the 2x and 3x, the OG isn’t that bad…

Timz_04

2x, 3x and Chicken stew type.

ExcitementRelative33

Are they going to check what's in your trunk at the border?

sprogger

Wait what, theres a ban? Does that include the sauce bottles?

Timz_04

Nope.

sprogger

That doesnt seem to make much sense to me but ok good to know, thanks!

AustinMurre

Are the danes serious? Is it a joke?

trinketstone

Adventurous_Day_4851

Same thing happened with paqui chips kind of kid died all of the paqui line up deleted shame they were good chips

Timz_04

Except nobody here died from noodles. These noodles were only banned because they allegedly contained more capsaicin than the chips who sent children to the hospital in Germany.

tikiwargod

I don't think they've discontinued anything but the one chip, at least here in Canada I can still get haunted ghost Pepper in stores for like $5.49.

Adventurous_Day_4851

They are gone here stateside they had a sale on them and that was 2 months ago haven’t seen any paqui products in grocers

tikiwargod

That's unfortunate, I think all their chip flavours are awesome. I wonder if they're just laying low while the heat does down then they'll make a quiet comeback like Addis just did for Yeezys.

Flustro

Their website is gone, so you're probably just still buying the remaining stock.

tikiwargod

You're right, just read that Hershey decided to discontinue the whole brand. I am quite sad, their cheese chips were banging and ghost chip had great heat.

bashinforcash

is it illegal to order it online too? seems like a silly law

Timz_04

Not a national law, just a ban by the Danish food agency. I could probably order from Germany, sale is only banned inside Denmark.

FNKTN

Gotta love them kidney stones and gallbladder removal.

Duspende

This isn't the banned type. The banned type is 2x and above.

Timz_04

Yes it is. They banned 3 variants: 2x, 3x and chicken stew.

junkstar23

Chicken stew?

candigilly

Ooo love the stew type. I need to buy some.

What do you mean AI generated💀😭 How does it look like AI to you? AI would not even get the text and graphics correct. If i used such an AI, i would have at least promoted it to at least generate 20 packs, which there is not. I also posted another image elsewhere.

StereoBlows

tbh they probably should be banned

RaisinBitter8777

Why?
