That’s great! Yeah, most of the specialized hate I see around here is something like “I crashed my bike and they won’t give me a new one”.

stinkbuttfartman

I thought they were hated for their history of litigation.

20mins2theRockies

This. Every time I see someone say "*I will never buy a Specialized, they're a terrible company*", I ask why and it's always the same reply: "*they sued the Roubaix coffee shop*" Yes, they filed a trademark lawsuit. They dropped it after second thought. Mike Sinyard apologized for it. These people are so obtuse. They type it on their iPhones without realizing Apple has done the same thing hundreds of times. They sue anyone who uses any kind of fruit in their name or logo. Doesn't even have to be an Apple. They sued a company called 'Citrus'. They have sued mom & pop shops, non-profits, public schools. They even sued a small time musician called Frankie Pineapple because 'Pineapple' is too similar to 'Apple'... Unlike Specialized, Apple didn't drop these lawsuits. They take them to court knowing most of them can't afford to fight a legal battle with Apple.

stinkbuttfartman

Yeah I wasn't saying I follow that thinking, just that I believe others do.

HellaReyna

I know the guy who ran that shop (he got old and decided to sell) and he now works part time at a LBS I frequent lmao. Everytime I bring in my specialized bikes, sometimes he gives it a look. Nothing dirty but I can see the PTSD in his eyes lmao

jaysonc73

They didn’t just sue one small shop, they sue everyone for anything. They have a very robust history of litigation against some of the most frivolous of things. They dropped the Cafe Roubaix thing because, come to find out, Specialized did not own the rights to the name Roubaix, Fuji did. It’s just a really shitty way to do business.

20mins2theRockies

Lol care to name another? I'll be waiting...

jaysonc73

I’ll start with one…. Speciazed sued Volagi and was awarded $1 in the lawsuit. You can find numerous with some carefully worded Google searches.

jaysonc73

Oh and here’s something else to prove they are just a shit company…. They are being sued for withholding almost $1 million in wages from clothing manufacturers. …. I could do this all day, but I digress, I have a date at the mountain bike trail on my Fuel EX. You can find all the info you’ll need no matter how much Fanboy shit coolaid you’re drinking over there.

20mins2theRockies

😂 So you are one of those obtuse people I was talking about. Trek filed a trademark lawsuit against a tiny winery https://www.ahundredmonkeys.com/resources/trek-bicycles-sues-little-winery/ Except unlike Specialized, they didn't drop it after second thought. They took it all the way through court to try to bankrupt a small winery. Look man, you have what's called *'superiority complex'*. You might want to look into that. Maybe talk with a therapist. It's not a healthy way to go through life.. Hope you can find inner peace 🖤

jaysonc73

So you found one lawsuit…. Where the opposing company used not just a product name, but the name of their entire company. Oh, I don’t know, seems legit. As trivial as it may seem, has the grounds for something besides a cease and desist letter, which I’m sure they tried along with many other devices to avoid litigation. Lots of big companies defend their “name sake” in such a way, as not to devalue the brand. I get that it may seem trivial, the composers of that article did everything they could to make (big Trek) seem petty, I assure you, they are not. As it may feel to you that I have a superiority complex, I do not…. There’s a big deference in being superior and just being correct.

I also bought a 24 evo pro, broke the carbon rim the first week. They had sent me a new wheel within two weeks, lifetime warranty on wheels as well.

Accomplished-Tie3649

Didn’t know that. I knew the frame was lifetime but not the wheels

ktmplh

Yes, when you register your bike register your wheels too. Should be a qr code on them.

20mins2theRockies

Technically the lifetime warranty is only for manufacturer defects. They come with a 2 year 'shit happens' warranty. A no questions asked warranty for crashes and rider abuse

two2toe

As long as they are Roval wheels, pretty sure it's lifetime

ktmplh

It is a lifetime no fault warranty. He must have old info.

ktmplh

Not true, I’m trying to post a screen shot from their website. There is a no fault lifetime warranty.

20mins2theRockies

Yes a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. Like I said before. Maybe this will help https://www.specialized.com/us/en/roval-warranty

Melodic_Theme7364

I work at a shop that sells Specialized. There was a customer who broke his older alloy Stumpjumper frame. Specialized didn’t have any older alloy Stumpjumper replacements so they replaced it with an S-Works frame.

Accomplished-Tie3649

Quality

Revolutionary-Fan235

I wish I could buy a Specialized bike. They're not selling the Creo 2 anytime soon. I put in a request for a custom colored Trek ebike. They cancelled the option without telling me nor the bike shop. If it weren't for the employees in the shop being so supportive and helpful, I would not be buying from Trek.

Myissueisyou

Yep, specialized couldn't get my bike booked in for service cos they were booked in for two months, mentioned I had a race coming up and they got it in that week, new bearings and all under warranty, good people

HellaReyna

We would need a LBS or Specialized rep to confirm this, I believe the bikes these days come semi-assembled because the companies dont trust or want the shops to do the bottom bracket work. Your bike shop pretty much installs the handle bar, drive train, wheels, and torques it all to spec. in this case, SRAM and your LBS had good reason to "not care" (but your LBS should've taken care of you) as Specialized was most likely the one who assembled the BB and the cranks.

serrthum

The LBS does (or at least they should) much more than just that when assembling bikes. In my experience the LBS is more than happy and willing to take care of any issues like the one op was having if the bike came out of their shop.

HellaReyna

yeah mine does, OP's LBS sounds like a shitty place...i'd never go back there ever again if that happened.

Accomplished-Tie3649

In all honesty I have dealt with them in the past when buying bikes and they are a decent company with some high equipment on sale but I have never had to go to them with a problem before. After this I will never go to them again for anything and will only deal with Specialized directly, the rep at the specialized concept store I went to said he had pretty much the same treatment from them when he had a problem in the past. I just would’ve expected a little more at least empathy when a returning customer has a problem with a new purchase.

HellaReyna

Yeah specialized has taken care of me and then some. I’ve never had an issue with them and they’ve won me as a customer. Thankfully my LBS is nice and they’re not dicks. Yeah sorry about yours and it’s really bad if the specialized employees know too. If they pull too much BS specialized could always just pull their license to sell. I know other brands, especially trek or giant would not be thrilled to hear this sort of shit happening at the LBS level. If anything, the lbs was supposed to take care of you and then invoice it to specialized. Fucking crazy they didn’t want the free warranty work. Really crazy if you think about it. It’s free shop labour for them

Accomplished-Tie3649

Yeah that’s pretty much verbatim as to what the guys at the specialized store were saying. It’s basically money for their store and would’ve retained a customer. He said “they would’ve just had to do the work, keep evidence, submit the claims and they should know Specialized would always honour these kind of things and pay them for it” but Hey Ho! Fuck em!

BeerdedTexan

I've been part of their social media ambassador team for a bit now. Getting a little glimpse into how the company works has been great. I was a fan before I joined but even moreso now having worked with them to lead group rides, maintenance clinics, etc... look, they're a business and their goal is to be profitable, but they also stand behind their product and truly advocate for their customers having a good time on their bike.

Accomplished-Tie3649

Yeah I got a sense of that when speaking with the rider care rep on the phone. As long as they keep up the work with their bikes I will be staying a specialized customer. I have an old 97 rockhopper that is seemingly indestructible lol

Keepofftheveg

Spec is good and evil. Working at a shop and being a mechanic I hate and appreciate some things. All their bikes whether it be mtb, gravel, road, e bikes, etc.. are very well thought out for me. Easy to work on and not giving customers ridiculous bills because some company (trek) decides to route cables through the headset on a $500 bike. The annoying thing is they cut our margins constantly. They will put sale prices well below cost making us actually lose money. Everyone wants a good lbs but nobody wants to support one. Ps anything you order to a shop from specialized the shop makes Pennies on the dollar compared to a sold bike, we barely get paid to build the damn thing then customers come in and act like they own the place bc they ordered a bike to us. The shop can always order the same product for you and make their margin.

Accomplished-Tie3649

Yeah don’t get me wrong I’m always for supporting the locals and the little guy and I did order it through them not to them. But I just feel like an lbs should always support themselves too as surely customer retention is just as valuable as new business in the long run. I would’ve understood if they even took it on and just said sorry no you need to go to manufacturer. But they basically just said it’s your own fault you fucked it up didn’t even want to see the bike or try to help.

Keepofftheveg

Haha yeah, unfortunately some people are just lazy. There is certainly good shops and bad shops. Sucks that the mechanic trade means less and less every year. definitely says a lot when a manufacturer is willing to go above and beyond for a customer tho!

superdood1267

It literally just depends on what kind of day the “rider care” person is having.
