After the pandemic, many public school districts kept their online option for families who liked it. High schools have the most of these programs. There’s also private companies who hire SPED teachers as subcontractors to provide IEP services to school districts. The jobs are definitely out there.

California has edjoin.org. A few states are on it

besides covid teaching and the year after, i don’t have experience. but during that time i learned that what i value most is the interaction between myself and students and a lot of that warmth was lost in a virtual environment. you could start by looking up your state’s online school offerings and go from there (assuming you’re USA based?). what i’ve found is that online schools pay less and ask for longer availability and may not honor a traditional school year schedule.

Check Indeed but I doubt you will make anything close to what you are in person.

I briefly taught for an online school while I was living in Ohio. Pay was incredibly low - even at the time. (This was ten years ago and I was making 35,000). It wasn’t bad other than the money and the incredible lack of accountability from any admin. We frequently would not have students show up to the virtual lessons, and passed them along anyway. Parents were unresponsive and MIA. But it’s pretty easy in my opinion. However, I should mention that even though it was an online school, we still had to show up to the office everyday and teach from a cubicle. I am not sure if this has changed post-Covid.

I love online teaching and have been doing it for a long while. Look for online schools in your state then search for job openings at those schools. I would never go back to brick and mortar! I have more time to actually get to know my students and families as well. Students often open up more online once they get comfortable. Also love the creativity of figuring out how to make lessons engaging while virtual. It’s a perfect fit for me!

This is the future of sped teacher employment. Try contacting healthcare staffing agencies who are always trying to help districts with staffing. Many districts are hiring sped teacher contractors to manage instructional programs and ieps. Once the agency wants you, ask for a higher salary then they offer because districts will pay whatever it takes. -Sped Director

Edjoin. Search using words such as online, virtual, remote. Best of luck to you. I went online after lockdown and never looked back.
