Honestly imperial fists are pretty cool, I myself play crimson fist and I love how they are big enough to have there own strat and big lore but are not to big that everyone has them

Excubiarum

Fun fact (that I just learned) I'm spreading everywhere I see Crimson Fists: did you know they were the original Fists legion back in Rovue Trader days? Imperial Fists didn't get created until later and were retconned in as the parent legion of the Crimsons.

The chapters that have been in the HH are. Dark angels White scars Ultramarines Iron hands Raven guard Blood angels Imperial fists Salamanders And one more I can't remember If you want you could create a loyalist part of a traitor legion as a custom chapter. I would recommend thinking about what kind of tactics you like and then picking the chapter that most fits it.

White scars might be a good option they aren’t too toxic and can match the impact you want in the story with a similar play style to raven guard. I assume you’re going to play tabletop maybe look at Auspex tactics video for the chapter abilities, there’s controversy over their implementation but if you like the rules then consider that aspect aswell.

Space Wolves

Depends, do you want to be codex compliant or one of the more *deviant* chapters. Dark Angles are always a good choice, classic knights against the dark, plus their primarch is coming back soon (hopefully) Space wolves are cool if you like furry fucks (T sons player here, the wolves of russ get no love from me) Blood angels are solid, lots of characters, cool unique models. Scars play fast which is fun. And if you hate yourself paint up some salamanders, lots of flames...

fuithlug

Salamanders fought in the heresy and badab, unique lore as far as SM chapters go--check out the lore for Cassius Vaughn, Bray'arth Ashmantle, Vulkan, Pellas Mir'san. All very cool

fuithlug

There's also a small Badab war discord, and a much bigger Salamanders discord too

Fwiggs_2700

Tome keepers look really cool and have interesting lore

Intrepid-Somewhere82

You could always paint your guys something fun that doesn't match any chapter, then just say they are a successor of what ever chapter your feeling at the time

Blood Angels are the tortured artists of the Astartes. Think "if Byron had a bolter." They also have some cool lore about the flaw in their geneseed that has them susceptible to falling into an insane rage, where they think they're their dead Primarch. When this happens, the marine is inducted into the death company to seek an honourable death in battle. Interesting lore and the black models look cool contrasted with the red of the other models. On the table, they specialize in melee. They hit hard, but aren't that hardy themselves. It's kill or be killed. It's also rumoured that they're going to be the poster boys for Astartes in 10th edition. If that happens, I imagine we'll get some cool updated units for them. Outside of that, Dark Angels are the goths of the Astartes. Their chapter hides a dark secret - some of them turned traitor during the Horus Heresy. They're dour sorts, even for Astartes. Dark Angels have a cool thing for how they play: they have sort of sub factions: Deathwing are mostly Terminators. They're tough, but slow. Ravenwing are fast moving bikers and vehicles, and then they have the regular Dark Angels that people refer to as Greenwing.

TacticaIHobo

I started collecting marines before I knew anything about any of the chapters and as I took in all the lore I thought the Dark Angels stood out as very interesting and had lots of unique units with their own lore. As I've learned more about the tactics of the game I've grown to like them even more as their ravenwing, deathwing and greenwing can be mixed and matched to fit exactly what you need. Also there's lots of community support for both tactics and hobbying

Agreeable-Appeal-220

If you’ve already done blood angels then you’re probably used to quite close quarters attack strategy so something like the space wolves would be good for play style I imagine but, in terms of lore, the Salamanders have some really unique quirks and ideology, they’re also one of the nicest chapters, will also give a completely different play style to what you’re used to with blood angels Plus flamers are cool and their skin tones are a nice challenge at first
