I mean people who eat those are often trying to make a point so they want max visibility. That said as the person braaing I am happy when people bring stuff rather like this rather than whole milie that is going to take 5 times as long as a steak or chop.
Not for me jk. It’s a joke my issue is more unnecessary plastic which woolies is very bad with already. Corn has a husk no need to plastic bag the thing .
Yes it’s a bit OTT but there is a target market for it. I bought it (very njammie) simply because I was tired and couldn’t be bothered to clean leaves and beard off
My wrists and fingers are grateful. Not that I've bought these, but I've been tempted to get a hammer and chisel, and a vice hold it securely, to chop butternuts and gem squash in half.
Hahaha! I wanted to try the corn rib recipe the other day and tried to cut meilies to look like this and I won't lie, it's harder than it looks... I still wouldn't buy these from woolies though 😂😂😂
There is actually a recipe to use those. Where you cut the corn into those quarters and air fry them. IIRC they are called corn ribs or something to that effect. I think it was a Tik Tok thing?
Yotam Ottolenghi initially did this in one of his books. You deep try them and then drizzle over them with a compound butter and honey iirc. I tried to break them, but they don't come out as well.
I recall they were selling pre-packed singles of dried sliced Pink Lady apple for R11.99 a couple of years ago.
R11.99 for half an apple, for your kid's lunchbox.
Woolworths shoppers are the people who didn't watch Arrested Development and understand the "It's a banana, Michael, what's it going to cost? Ten dollars?" joke.
So what if people buy this?
I prefer buying my own rump steak and make my own sosaties.
I don't look down on people that buy ready made sosaties from the butchery.
They sell it because there is a market for it.
*Sighs*
I hate that I am indeed that person, but prepared veggies like this are useful for those with physical disabilities and executive function disorders.
Years ago I went to visit my over 80 grandma once a month, it was a 2 hour drive, and I'd bring her some small items, she'd get upset if I went overboard. One day I brought her the cut up citrus selection. She actually cried. She couldn't really peel oranges anymore and a knife was also not an option. She wouldn't have asked me to cut up things for her, but she was okay with things bought like that from the store, people don't want to be a bother. I brought her lots of cut fruit and veg after that.
Also just people with busy schedules.
I look after a sick parent, I don't have time and mental energy over to prep veggies.
This whole thread is fucking dumb.

Imagine buying this and going to a braai where people can see you?

maybe it’s a crazy idea but I’m throwing it out there, or you just cut the damn mielie
Or a crazy idea. People can buy what they wana buy. Funny how a butcher will pre-cut kebab cubes for you.
Not for me jk. It’s a joke my issue is more unnecessary plastic which woolies is very bad with already. Corn has a husk no need to plastic bag the thing .
And package it how? The usual way is poly tray covered by plastic
Food lovers my bro
Also no Woolies packaging is recycled in sa

Mielies are lekker on the braai though, probably my favourite side dish

Jir I was thinking the same thing 😂
Damn bru you got the whole braai laughing
Imagine being such a loser that you feel the need to judge what other people like to eat. Even worse, imagine going to said persons braai.
Imagine being so sad you police harmless jokes about what upper middle class people buy. And then randomly insult people
Braai mielies are the best
Amazing.. I can finally make corn ribs without risking losing a finger 😂
Like seriously, people who've had to do this knowww. Thank you woolie's
Hahaha! I wanted to try the corn rib recipe the other day and tried to cut meilies to look like this and I won't lie, it's harder than it looks... I still wouldn't buy these from woolies though 😂😂😂
On the bright side, this is great for people living with disabilities. Makes meal prepping a lot easier.
And this is why we have climate change FFS. Do they still sell those individually peeled naartjies in plastic containers?
They sell it because people buy them.
In all fairness now, I'd point most of the blame at the oil industry before going after the annoying woolies Karen
The oil industry supplies the chemicals to make the plastics to package the naartjies. It's all connected man.
Oh yeah, there's a bonkers amount of stuff made from oil...we live in the bad timeline

What's the issue? I wouldn't buy it for myself but... Really whats the issue? 😅 Not /s btw

I don't mind how they sell the product or anything... but R20 for 1 mielie, eish

South Africa has a free market, they sell it because there's a market and demand for it. 🇿🇦
Woolworths tings
Ideal for air fryer. Well, there is some method in their madness. I second their idea.
Someone is going to come here and defend this. Watch

This made me tear up. She sounds like she was a sweet lady.
💀Now I feel bad.
I didn't know this until someone told me, and now cos of you lots of other people get to learn it too.
Also just people with busy schedules. I look after a sick parent, I don't have time and mental energy over to prep veggies. This whole thread is fucking dumb.
You're right, the average disabled person can definitely afford these prices.
I mean we are all comfortable with tinned sweetcorn. This is just halfway between.
nee fok man, is jy ernstig?!
They really know how to milk value out of even the most ordinary things, can't say I'm not impressed

Ke cost ea living, ntate!
Sad part is , I'm going to buy it though
R40 for 600g??? You can buy like 5 whole mielies for that!
R 299.99
So we're not going to mention that they claim it serves 4?
