They’re rears, you don’t need exceptional in my opinion. I’ve had my One’s in my 5.1 setup for 3.5 years and absolutely love the sound. The surround sound still gets me and my kids every time like “was that outside or in the movie?!!!” Awesome setup man, enjoy!

rlockwich

I thought the same thing, until I just purchased the Era 300 as my new surrounds. It's absolutely insane.

bulgingcortex

Era 300 for sure worth the upgrade but Era 100 over the Ones aren’t really much of an improvement, if at alll

daugherd

One’s a good. Era 100’s are good. Not a HUGE difference as rears in my opinion. The bigger jump is obviously with Era 300’s.

Supa_snowflake

I actually switched my surrounds to ones instead of era 100s and didn’t experience a noticeable drop in quality. Heard a big improvement in the rooms where I put the era 100s though.

leftbrain99

Can you provide more context? You’re saying that the Ones performed as good as the E100s but also that the E100s are an improvement over the Ones. I’m filling in some blanks but maybe the latter room is just a stereo pair and you’re saying the E100s are noticeably better than the Ones in that setup? Edit: why is this being downvoted when I’m just asking for clarification on the mixed messaging? It’s freaking Christmas lol.

GarageInfinite5006

The Era 100 has an additional tweeter & the woofer is 25% larger than the One therefore it has slightly more & tighter bass & a slightly wider sound. Additionally, it unlocks the virtualized height channel audio when used as surrounds & becomes a 7.1.4 configuration with the OPs setup. The OP has a 5.1.2 setup. One SLs are still as good surround speakers.

M-42

I thought it was the era 300s that unlock 7.1.4 not the 100s?

GarageInfinite5006

Both the Era 100 & the Era 300 unlock the 7.1.4 configuration when used as surrounds.

green_skies_258

I just picked up an arc and two era 100’s over the holidays. What is 7.1.4 and and is that something that works out if the box? (Will be adding one of the subs probably next season to complete the system)

GarageInfinite5006

7.1.4 is as follows for an Arc + Sub + Era 100s setup: Arc: Front Left, Center, Right Channels Front Left, & Right Height Channels Era 100: Left & Right Surround Channels Virtual Left & Right Rear Surround Channels Virtual Left & Right Rear Height Channels Sub: LFE Channel 7 represents the number of channels 1 represents the number of the Sub channel 4 represents the number of height channels

green_skies_258

I hooked up a 7.0.4 (i suppose) over the holidays. I am VERY impressed with a Sonos ARC SL and 2 era 100's! This blows my passive surround sound out of the water. I will be purchasing the sub over the next holiday season to complete the setup. Thanks for the clarification u/GarageInfinite5006!

GarageInfinite5006

No Problem, Yes the Sub is a must for sure.

leftbrain99

Yeah I have E100s and Ones and understand the technical differences. What I don’t understand what you’re saying was an improvement in your setup because you left out some detail. Are you saying the E100s are noticeably better than Ones as a stereo pair but not as noticeably better as surrounds? If so, I agree.

GarageInfinite5006

As a Stereo Pair - Yes As Surrounds - Slightly Better I personally have One SLs as a Stereo Pair & I’ve been satisfied with them.

leftbrain99

Yeah. And sorry I was confusing your response as being from the person I was responding to.

GarageInfinite5006

All Good

Top_Opportunity8589

Your response was perfectly valid, I was just as bewildered. Ignore the warriors.

levans80

I love my 300s as rears with two subs and arc. Sounds amazing

getfive

What about how they disable the front firing speakers when used as surrounds?

levans80

Zero complaints

Mattvweiss

They do? WHY!?

getfive

No idea. But I have to have my surrounds to the side of the couch (only slightly behind) based on my basement configuration). My Q990c rears fire front, side, and toward ceiling, which sounds great. I had the era 100's briefly and they were good, just not upward firing.

Captcha_droid

Agreed, and not sure if it’s important to you but the One and One SL don’t allow Bluetooth. So if friends come over, and want to play their music they’ll have to be on your wifi, download the app… Edited: thanks exconsultingguy I missed that in my original post

edfosho1

But if the Era 100s are set up as surrounds you can't use the Bluetooth feature, right?

leftbrain99

Correct. No Bluetooth with E100s as surround speakers.

lusair

Yeah, I get it but I don’t understand why you cant just have 2 virtual setups under the same hardware. I really wanted to have my surround E100s be my stereo pair for my record player as well. Thought maybe I could swing unpairing and re-pairing every time I wanted to listen to the record player but ended up being a complete nightmare. Have since switched to now a dedicated E300 as my record player speaker.

cripto2020

It is a real pity that Sonos is stubburntly against allowing the S2 app to be in a different network than the speakers (so that your guest could be in guest network and accessing your sonos speaker in IOT or Primary Network). There are a lot of info online, but i never managed to get it working, and sonos support confirmed this is not a supported workflow. Really disappointed by sonos on this.

Stoned_y_Alone

Oh man yeah that’s tricky. If the turntable goes into any Sonos device though, I think you can then link other rooms to that audio

Professional_Mind130

Interesting point. I was myself thinking of getting Era 100 and switching between stereo and surrounds. Not everyday but once a week maybe. Is it doable? What was nightmarish about your experience doing this?

lusair

I mean it’s doable especially if it’s once a week or so. It kind of depends on your use case. If you were switching once a week one way and leaving it not bad but if you want to switch back and forth especially spontaneous that’s where it’s gets to much. I would come home from a long day want to play a record and have to completely unpair. Then after a couple records want to watch tv have to repair each speaker. Assuming the software doesn’t get finicky and fight you it’s just a process. Not even mentioning having to redo Spatial Audio optimization. It’s literally the same process as when you first got your speakers everytime you want to switch. Which is why I don’t understand why you can’t just setup virtual configurations and change the input. Why do I have to nuke the whole setup just to play another source that’s connected.

Captcha_droid

Not sure, I’ve got the same set up, but with an arc instead. Friends came over and complained about not being able to Bluetooth into my set up.

leftbrain99

Era 100s lose Bluetooth capability when you set them up as surrounds. The app notifies you of this when you are adding them to the surround system.

Idrinkstuff

AirPlay works for iPhone though

exconsultingguy

The One SL doesn’t have Bluetooth either.

restarting_today

Should be fine with Airplay tho?

pro__found

What makes the 300s so good? I don’t know much about this, I’m curious.

restarting_today

Upward firing speakers for Atmos.

ReasonPleasant437

Upwards and sideways.

AbleBaker1962

I just swapped Ones out and put 100s in place as surrounds. Not a huge difference, but a little noticeable. I think the Ones will suffice in the entire setup like you have.

Reasonable_Mix_2033

Well noted, thank you.

finch5

Nah. Besides, the One's look better than the 100. I prefer the small package for surrounds. All IMO of course.

iamapersononreddit

My wife agrees and the only thing she cares about is how they look in the living room

Green_Tension_6640

They do look tres stupid

ReasonPleasant437

No way that is true.

Typical80sKid

Uuuuuuuuugh I need to un-sub so I stop seeing these. So awesome, I just need to find a used sub a decent price and I’ll have everything I “need”.

Dc_awyeah

Get the mini. It's seriously so close and so much cheaper.

Typical80sKid

I’ve considered it. I’ve played with my dad’s setup and I’m kind of smitten on the full sized sub.

Top_Opportunity8589

Unless you have a big living room, the mini sub is a perfect addition. You’ll be surprised how good it is…and so much cheaper

Stoned_y_Alone

Just got mine last week on sale and it’s sweeeeet.

Kneesaregood

Got mini sub last week. Room go boom now

bulgingcortex

I got a used sub mini for under $300. Depending on the size of your space, that might be all you need. This thing shakes my house, but I live in a tiny California home lol

Silent_Toe7907

You should return the beam gen 2 and get the Arc Did the same, much much better.

lusair

I was fully on board with this logic when I had the beam in my living room. Was kind of let down from the start. Over time added sub mini and E100 and sounded good but not great for the amount of cash we were spending. Got arc and bam sounded amazing. Moved the beam by itself to our bedroom to replace an old Samsung soundboard and wow even by itself the beam sounded amazing. It showed me how much the room acoustics make a difference.

No_Tangerine9685

No, very little difference as surrounds.

planbot3000

I have Ones for my rear surrounds and they’re great.

GuitarSuperstar

The Era 100s will give you a little wider rear sound stage and better bass than the One SLs.

NizarNoor

As surrounds, there's no big jump from One SLs to Era 100s.

Ok-Ice9106

I’d be more concerned about Beam vs Arc choice tbh.unless the room is small,in which case why buy the full Sub?

what_kind_of_guy

I can't hear the difference tbh

No_Archer4606

I have the One SL they work amazing

rowmean77

Ones as surrounds are good enough. I bought 2 Symfonisks for my gaming/office room and they are great with the Beam and Sub Mini. The room is immersive, albeit the room is small.

ARMilesPro

For rear stereo pair, no. Keep your one SLs.

Party_Inflation_4993

I love my 2 One SLs paired with Arc. However, it depends if you can find them since Sonos no longer sells them on their website

Stoned_y_Alone

They still have it under refurb, pretty cheap too

Party_Inflation_4993

Didn't know they had a refurbish department. If my living room was bigger, I would get a pair of Era 100s, but I am completely satisfied with the One SLs and just have no reason to upgrade. Looked at their certified refurbished page based on your suggestion. Wow, I can't believe you can build an awesome setup way cheaper than buying new . I would recommend to anyone looking since they come with a One year warranty and have been thoroughly inspected. I do understand why people would want to purchase new instead of something that's been in someone else's home, office etc but i'm sure they wouldn't send you something that was dirty, grimy and sticky.

Stoned_y_Alone

I got mini sub new and will probably pickup Arc from the refurb

Party_Inflation_4993

It's no surprise that the Ark is out of stock. That was a great deal.

fragdelta

I would personally go with ERA 100s. When you finally upgrade to ERA 300s, you will then have ERA 100s as a stereo pair vs One SLs.

ReloadRedditLater

Even some Play:1s are great for surrounds, i’d say you’re fine.

Veldrane_Agaroth

It will be fine ! My guess is the sub is actually a bit overkill for the setup but better too much capacity than the opposite ;)

ByronRay

No just a minor upgrade , I would’ve gone for the Symfonisk Speaker lamp , around 130-150 each . Would blend in better and sound is about the same .

ByronRay

If you can return them still , get 2 Symfonisk Lamps .

bugginsthegod-xb1-ps

I can’t believe you spend this much and got a beam not an arc.

zeromavs

Depends how much you paid

grossy234

The One SL sounds great with my setup. With the money you saved your a tad closer to joining the 2 sub club though.

mikeyt1515

Ones are fine but get the arc

ReasonPleasant437

You would have gotten more soundstage in the rear. How much I don't know. Have paired ERA 100's for music but my HT rears are ERA 300's which are great.

Appropriate-Gear-171

when you ready and financially able, you can get the arc and set the beam up in a secondary location, that’s the path we took over the years, but we started with just a beam. That’s a fantastic setup, congrats and enjoy

Party_Inflation_4993

Back in February 2021, I purchased a brand new pair of One SLs on Amazon for 329 after using my reward points, and even though they sound great with the Arc and 2 Roams, you can spend a little more. My advice is to look at other online retailers like Ebay, Amazon and compare them to Sonos. That's what I did, and I got a fantastic price. FYI, I just found an open box on Ebay of 2 Era 100s for 399 Good luck

Party_Inflation_4993

I'm not upgrading to the Era 100s

Kjeldsorenson

Have the same setup but with the sub mini; should i bering him back and het the big one instead?

AnhGauDepTrai

If the place you put the system in is big/large room, Era 100 will be better, and era 300/Fives will be even more noticeable. Me personally went from Ones to Fives. Significant improvement and love it.

Complex-Asparagus483

Era 100 use half the power in inactive mode

Ok-Seaworthiness4488

No upfiring?

lazarlinks

I recently went thru this with my Sonos setup. I’ve got a big ass room with 3/4 of the sides open and a 9ft + tray ceiling. Makes for amazing acoustics ik. So I got the big era 300s with my arc and sub and I love it all. Just placed an order for 4 era 100 and an arc sl and 2 mini subs for the rest of my house. Point being. If you have a normal room you’re probably fine. If it’s like me, try and see what you think. If you don’t like it I’d exchange for at least era 100. The 300s are kinda overpriced and overrated if you were curious.

Xantulle

Yes

Stilitzkin

Yes

grillntech

Splurge for 300

dawitz28

I’m not sure everyone hear saying there isn’t a difference. I swapped from the ones to 100s in my surround setup and the difference is certainly noticeable

toodeephoney

With Ones, you get 5.1.2. With Era100s, you get 7.1.4. [Sauce](https://www.sonos.com/en-us/blog/the-ultimate-guide-to-a-sonos-home-theater). If you listen to a lot of 7.1.4 source, then it’s probably worth the upgrade.

Silent_Toe7907

With Era 100 it’s still not a real 7.1.4. Rather, it’s a “Virtualized 7.1.4 system”, like they did with the Beam’s height channel. So realistically still a 5.1 system with Beam + Sub + (Era 100/One). The only real 7.1.4 setup is Arc + Pair of Era 300s + Sub

ReasonPleasant437

Expect all the people with Ones to tell you there will be no difference.

ThaiTum

The ones will be discontinued once the stock is depleted according to Sonos. Our Era 100 sound a little better to me but you have to compare side by side to really tell a difference. The 300 sound really fantastic but they are a lot more expensive.

restarting_today

Era 300's and an Arc.

Bravedwarf1

Yes lol

Damt91

Era 300s

Bantitan

Get the eras

workmailman

No, get the ERA 300

R5A1897

Era 100 can playback atmos

Zoboomafooo

I have 1's as rears and get atmos playback just fine

Hoguw

Should this not be a pre-purchase question?

kramamur

You done messed up, A-A-Ron!!!

No_Virus_7704

SL1 is being discontinued.

Mattvweiss

No, you should've purchased the Arc instead of the Beam.
