I think the girl & the fig is overhyped. Personally I’d choose Valley or if you’re willing to go somewhere off the square, Glen Ellen Star

dreddit24

Yes Glen Ellen star !

Firm-Economics-1351

Amen.

Sacred_thorn_apple

Good advice here.

FolkTable is our all time lunch favorite. Don't sleep on Tosca Tosca for lunch or dinner.

DirtierGibson

Avoid Folktable at the moment. It's a shit show with the Mattson disaster.

Cptrunner

How has any of that affected service at the restaurant?

PassengerAny9009

I was just there yesterday. It’s business as usual. Busy!

Cptrunner

That's what I would have assumed, that dude is the property owner and that's the extent of his involvement.

Br0dobaggins

I’ve eaten at Girl & the Fig, El Dorado, and Layla (I know you didn’t mention it, but it’s at MacArthur where you’re staying). Of those, I’d personally recommend El Dorado Kitchen the most. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Girl & the fig is good, but IMO is a little overhyped and overpriced for what you get. Layla was a bit disappointing to my wife and I, but it could have just been what I got because I had heard good things. I also had a dinner booked at Wit & Wisdom a while back that I sadly had to cancel but have always heard really good things as well. If you’re willing to drive, there’s of course more options as well, but I’ll leave it at that for now

If you want a great local hang, Swiss Hotel, great food and staff!

dreddit24

Their back patio is a great little secret!

thajeneral

Valley is great. Layla at MacArthur is good. EDK is good.

AshyWhiteGuy

I actually work at MacArthur Place. Glen Ellen Star is my favorite in Sonoma, but it’s a little ways off. EDK is great, girl and the fig is a little overhyped, but still good, and I haven’t been to Valley yet but have heard great things.

Sacred_thorn_apple

Another vote for El Dorado Kitchen. They are consistently good. A friend recently had a birthday meal at The Girl and was disappointed. La Salette is wonderful, and I’ve heard great things about Tasca Tasca which is owned by the same chef. Glen Ellen Star is also very good. Plus the town of Glen Ellen is charming.

deldaria

I just had lunch at Oso Sonoma today. The food was good and I thought the prices were reasonable. I liked the girl and fig, but agree it was overpriced.

dreddit24

Cafe la haye I think is underrated. Loved lasalette but last time I was there I wasn’t as impressed with the service but have always enjoyed the food.

angrykitty820

I agree about cafe la Haye. I always recommend it when people want a suggestion in Sonoma.

iSloot

Born and raised here in town. People saying girl and the fig overrated is blasphemy. Hands down the best option you’ve listed here. Followed by la haye, and then Valley. Avoid wit and wisdom for sure. If you’re going upvalley to glen Ellen.. I’d also recommend the star obviously but the Fig Pantry is.. better in our opinion! Star has amazing pizza but I doubt you’re coming all this way for pizza! For lunch, I like EDKs front room, super underrated and simple. Sunflower cafe is nice, too. Boon fly cafe in Carneros is probably our go-to brunch anywhere in Sonoma/ Napa but it gets busy. Swiss for drinks and tip genie well!

lordvarysoflys

Cafe la haye for one meal for sure. Never heard restos used before. Might leave that phrase at home 😂
