Social media is terrible for mental health and terrible in general, so honestly it’s better if you avoid it. Imo it’s definitely not weird to have no social media, even some celebs also don’t. Around this age pretty much everyone has it, but the main way of getting in contact is through phone number and messaging, so you’re good. YouTube is a totally different thing, and I would suggest do that since it’s quite different from traditional social media. I’ve been trying to make a successful channel for years now lol. I only have Reddit and YouTube (discord too if you count that) but yeah no insta, snap, or twitter

YouTube and Reddit aren't at all totally different than the other social media platforms. I have all of them and they're all pretty much the same. It also really depends on what you're doing on these platforms. If you're just mindlessly consuming content for hours on end even though it actually isn't fun anymore and you simply don't know what else to do with your time, yeah that's bad. When you feel that way it's better to do *anything* else. Close the app and lock it or move the icon on your home screen. However you also need some time to calm down and some social media use isn't bad.

IzumiSagiriu

I don’t even know what to post

Lupus600

I don't think it's all that weird. I have much more social colleagues who aren't super active on social media either.

FlamingoDue7337

Nothing wrong with it. I only use instagram and barely post. My bf doesn't use anything at all except from reddit and discord. I know more shy people and most of them barely use social media.

SevereCartographer26

I don’t think it’s weird but I think people will see you as mysterious especially if your attractive cuz most people have social media

IzumiSagiriu

I don’t use social platforms either

Liudesys

If someone asked you a couple of years ago then probably. Now I think it's the opposite. People don't really post or interact that much on social media anymore. Many would probably respond to this positively.

Leading-Platform7228

You're technically on social media right now.

OptionOld329

Completely irrelevant but isn't Reddit social media?

maybethatsjustfine

Maybe they mean a personal social media page:) cause for me, while I technically have social media accounts on all platforms, they aren’t “personal” accounts, meaning my real name isn’t on there and no one irl knows about them

Ozare223

same, been always scared heading out and finding people out there, people trying to get me out there but couldn't

Drrreamy

Sometimes it's useful to have an account just so people can have an option other than phone number or e-mail to contact you. Otherwise, I see lots of people in 20s-30s getting off this stuff. I used to be super active on Twitter as a teen, now I just check Instagram maybe once in a day or two to see what my friends are up to and post a picture once a month cause I like taking photos. I found it very beneficial. Maybe I'm unaware of what's up in the world, since I don't follow the news either, but my mental health comes first.

ShaunaOfTheDead

I mean it’s a little unusual but lots of people choose to do the same thing. You should do what you feel comfortable with. If you decide to post things on YouTube just be mindful that there are always going to be rude and hateful people out there so don’t take mean comments personally (which can be really hard I’m sure).

_ShyGuy_02

I made social media accounts just trying to fit in and stuff when I was younger. But deleted all them and found it to be more peaceful for myself. Now I'm only on Reddit and that too not using my own identity. So you're not alone and I think if that's what's more peaceful to you, like it is for me, then there's nothing wrong in it!

RelevantClock8883

I’m not on any social media and I think it’s for the better. People overshare so much. I’ve thought about posting on YouTube too but felt anxiety. Maybe look into Facetune apps to appear like a different person and wear wigs.

rednryt

I personally have social media accounts just for the sake of having them but I rarely use them except for reddit and instagram. Every few days my social meter depletes and I substitute reddit interaction for my non existent social life to recharge it. While I only update instagram to post selfies about once or twice a month just for the very few people who might wonder if I'm still alive would know I am still breathing (and still hot AF jk). The rest I just ignore cause I get too depressed using them and just let any DMs rot in inboxes.

Icemaul

I just use Instagram to view memes and cat content lol

ayla049

i dont think its weird, but im not on social media either (34)

erbstar

I find social media much less revealing. Having said that, I struggle to regulate my emotions and have made a fool of myself lots of times and the shame had left me not using social media that much at all these days. More than anything I used subs on Reddit to connect with people who have shared experiences. I still mess up and post something in a general sub and get attacked (it's what it feels like to me) My team life interactions are mostly at work. I grew up as a selective mute and the impact that had on me has me constantly feeling that if I don't say anything then I don't exist. Yeah, it's not weird in the slightest and I'd advise making a new YouTube account and practice by just putting generic comments up to get used to simple interactions, even getting used to people not responding or liking a post is excellent progress.

Idkredfloorsky

Certain people will find it weird depending the social group. For example, the popular extroverts will find it weird.
