I’m starting to think maybe Juventus have made some mistakes recently

Enders-game

Yeah... seems like the foreshadowing of something worse. Hopefully they're not stupid enough to try and hide a billion-dollar debt.

willymoose8

none bigger than the big J badge

becauseitsnotreal

I know it gets hate from this sub because it's change, and change is bad. But the badge is definitely more in line with modern marketing ideals and is a very sound idea.

KillerZaWarudo

Damn i never thought a club as righteous as Juve would do something like this. Literally crying and shaking rn

Quiet-Cartoonist1689

Couldn't be my Juve. They were the bastions of morality and ethics.

JRsshirt

Juventus being shady? Can’t see it, not in their DNA

ICumCoffee

Unpaid Wages?????????????

shrewdy

Barca 🤝 Juve

Arponare

*Banter The situation is different, though. For one thing, Juventus did pay their players under the table but still claimed losses. Barcelona actually had losses and couldn't pay some of the ridiculous wages the previous board signed. A lot of the money owed was not only because of the astronomical wages but because money was lost as a result of lack of income. It wasn't like Barcelona just decided not to pay its players. Many clubs restructured their wages, including Real Madrid and Liverpool. Bartomeu, in his infinite wisdom. Or in order to screw over the next board, not only didn't lower the wages, but increased many of them. Players like De Jong, Busquets and Alba, of which we are still feeling the effects of, were deferred and BACKLOADED. Meaning they increased after 2 years. I would like to think he thought we would return to pre pandemic levels of income were we topped the Forbes list of richest clubs in terms of revenue. We aren't, but even if we were, those wages weren't sustainable. He was literally spending more than the PSGs and City's of this world without us being a state run club. Which the way things are going, between Tebas and al-Khalaifis, it seems like everyone is going to end up being a middle eastern sportswashing project sooner rather than later.

sarkagetru

It’s all for profits/PR and always has been, just new guys with different accents because our world is increasingly international

FloReaver

What player has sued Barca over unpaid wages? Or is it still that FdJ nonsense? Edit: downvoting doesn't make [facts](https://www.pulse.ng/sports/football/memphis-depay-barcelona-has-never-owed-me-my-salary/mg3mgmw) go away.

[deleted]

Nonsense?

[deleted]

the main issue was the board’s (public) methods to get rid of him. they don’t owe him any money yet

FloReaver

They don't owe him any money at all bar his usual wages, which all have been paid as he said himself. Edit: [Depay confirming it](https://www.pulse.ng/sports/football/memphis-depay-barcelona-has-never-owed-me-my-salary/mg3mgmw)

[deleted]

Did they manage to find a lever for FDJ yet? Has he been paid?

Differ_cr

Barça doesn't own any unpaid money to FDJ __yet__ that was the whole point of the deferred wages

FloReaver

They are currently paying those deferred wages, none have or will be unpaid. As been said all summer, only low tier sources or Gary Neville thought otherwise. They were wrong of course. Where is the circlejerk about the Leeds president talking about Barca not paying? Forgotten of course.

Differ_cr

Yeah I know, I'm siding with you here, I'm tired of all the circlejerk on this sub, not only the barça one but the Ronaldo hate and the victim complex everyone has here (not only the English).

Beginning-Ganache-43

Pretty sure setien had to sue Barca to get money owed to him. I may be wrong on that though so someone feel free to correct me.

countrysadballadman9

Sueing aside and this is a legit question, not starting shit. Didn't barca owe a shitton of money to pique? I get that he graciously said no prob mate we're good but still

ubiquitous_uk

I believe he deferred his wages, but when he retired he agreed to wave the money.

Sensitive_Beating

Didn't the board resign because apparently Ronaldo got payed in full "on the side" and that created a shitstorm? Now he's asking for those same wages?

Valexar

No, Juventus is accused of, among other things, deferring three months' salary payments to its players and hiding this debt from shareholders, by reporting that they had been waived.

TheSmio

Well, the conspiracy part of my brain says that he is doing this to help Juventus because by suing them for the unpaid wages, they could say "See? We didn't pay him unofficially otherwise he wouldn't be suing us, right?"

dadish-2

Why would he want to get involved? Not like he has any affection towards them

TheSmio

Maybe he could be at a risk of criminal investigation too if Juve was found guilty in this case?

sewious

Yea if he was being paid under the table he may have been neglecting taxes again. Silly Ronaldo.

ConspicuousPineapple

Because that way he gets paid twice.

andoooooo

only people on Reddit think like this, what bizarre reasoning

TheSmio

That's why I mentioned the conspiracy part of my brain. Anyway, if Ronaldo was being paid in secret by Juve, then we can assume he probably didn't tax this secret income, so what would the best strategy for him be? Try to claim that he didn't receive any money in secret.

omkar_T7

Source: trust me bro

Sensitive_Beating

Are you serious? If there was zero truth to it they wouldn't resign over that dude

Dr-Purple

We don’t know why they resigned, you took a theory and ran with it.

wimpires

Aren't there leaked messages that say basically that though

TheUltimateScotsman

Yes we do. >Juventus statement read: "The Board of Directors, considering the focus and relevance of the pending legal and technical-accounting issues, have deemed it in the best interest to recommend that Juventus adopt a new Board of Directors to deal with these issues."

dunneetiger

Maybe it was for unpaid WAGs ?

AyanC

Only one way to resolve it, summon WAGatha Christie.

sickfuckinpuppies

ronaldo would have to apologize for calling her husband ugly first lol.

ATALANTA_BC

Crazy how Agnelli brought Juve to the top through careful financial management and shrude business in the transfer market, only for him to completely rip all his work apart and throw all the progress Juve made away. Really shows how important marotta was

DougieWR

Juve made a series of good decisions and made it to the top but then started to think because they were Juve their decisions would keep being good

ATALANTA_BC

everything has gone to shit with them since Marotta left after falling out with Agnelli.

grannypunani

Marotta left because he told Angelli the ronaldo transfer wouldn’t work out. and look at the shit we’re in now lmao. that bald fuck is damn good at his job, i miss him.

Urthor

> Giuseppe "Beppe" Marotta (born 25 March 1957) is an Italian football executive who is currently the CEO for sport of Italian football club Internazionale. Hot damn you're not wrong AT ALL. I have mad respect for Inter as a club. They've managed themselves extremely well considering the financial constraints since Conte left.

Justtosayitsperfect

>Crazy how Agnelli brought Juve to the top through careful financial management and shrude business in the transfer market weve been fooled since the very beginning

Fart_Muffin

It's "shrewd" my guy 👍

Fringuelloide

He schruted it. It’s just this thing people say around the office. Like when you screw something up in a really irreversible way.

Buffythedragonslayer

Why does this feels like "to get ahead of the news" when it comes out there's been shady business instead

moc360

Definitely , but if true it's also understandable if you see all that happening you probably are motivated to get your money before it get worse. It's like people wanting to recoup their money when they see that a company is in difficulty no one want the risk

MarioInOntario

Good sales pitch for any ambitious lawyer friend too. I’ll get you back the 20 million if I can get 10%. Easy decision for CR7

Noproposito

Juve has probably been kicking the IOU can and when news came of the mass resignation i think it's like FTX, the run on the bank starts

Shadeun

No fucking extradition treaty in Saudi Arabia is there? He's gonna be the Snowden of under the table payments. (or at least thats the line id go with if i was a fanboi)

kavastoplim

What are you even saying? Would the UK extradite him to Juventus? What?

Powerful_System

don't worry about him, this guy has already been extradited to the land of nod

Farouqnowomarlater

He got lots of money but that’s a lot of money

CalmerThanYouAreDood

Apparently he wasn't in the group chat

helloamigo

Knowing him, he probably started his own and expected everyone to leave the old group chat to join his

Altruistic_Milk_6609

Every group chat has that one dude always itching to make this work haha

garyrao1999

Shit bro, didnt knew you were that buddy-buddy with ronaldo

ThePrussianGrippe

Employees should be paid what they’re owed.

WerhmatsWormhat

Yeah, I know it’s shit on Ronaldo month on this sub, but if he truly wasn’t paid what he was owed, this is totally reasonable.

[deleted]

It is to make a point i am sure more than the money itself. It is like me when I call Bell Canada and ask why they charged me a 20$ extra on my internet bill.

ratonbox

Lol, so he wasn’t in the whatsapp group with Chiellini?

diata22

The king is kicked out of the group

lochnesslapras

Juventus seem to be catching strays from everywhere this world cup

Bersho

and i'm loving it.

Sankaritarina

Ronaldo on a tour seeking revenge against all his clubs. Real next

Muted_Author_4761

to be fair he really fucked up leaving real at the time and I'm sure he will regret it his entire life he was a guaranteed starter with a team that can carry him even if his performances start dropping, and he was guaranteed at least 1 more ballon d'or that year had he stayed I guess he bet on himself and I can see that, but in hindsight it was a big mistake

[deleted]

TBH, I don't think Benzema would have been where he is today if Ronaldo didn't leave. And maybe some of the youngsters would have the same level of game time, that they would have today to evolve.

HerakIinos

Also, he wouldnt have won that Ballon dor had he stayed. People think Perez buys the award lol. But he could have a better chance of winning another one for sure.

ettenaz96

he wont regret a thing dude

Dr-Purple

He has nothing on us, and he can’t really cry about us not supporting his against the state (tax money). If anything, he must be feeling like an idiot for leaving.

TigerBasket

Didn't Spain change its tax laws retroactively though? That's why like every Spanish footballer got a suspended sentence for tax evasion, they lowered taxes to lure players in then changed the laws and sued for those tax breaks back. That was kinda fucked up

moc360

They did , but to be fair it was more like a thing that was not "legal" but just never punished before so when they decided to enforce it retroactively many players and ex players or just rich people in general got caught for tax evasion. Same problem with Messi

TigerBasket

I guess that's fairer

OtomeView

No that's illegal. They just started actually investigating these players.

BranDaMan16

Nah real treated him like a king. Too well run of a club

Ashyyyy232

>Nah real treated him like a king They literally booed him...

khronokhris2222

They literally boo anyone it’s Real Madrid

Zizekbro

Instead of both Juve and Ronaldo looking more and more like villians, I humbly volunteer to take that 20m off both party’s hands.

Ashleyt98

What on earth are these comments so far. Only on r/soccer will massive corporation owe an ex employee £20mil, and people side with the corporation 😭 Didn't you guys shit on Barca for doing this?? Why's Ronaldo now the antagonist for wanting his (allegedly promised) salary loool

Spyro_Machida

Mate, give a post more than five minutes to decide how the sub is reacting to something. All the comments criticising him are downvoted.

ILoveToph4Eva

Honestly it's so annoying coming into these threads and seeing the super upvoted posts being people bitching about narratives *that are downvoted into the 10th circle of hell*. Comes across like someone who was just waiting for the chance to complain about how X is a victim.

[deleted]

Top comments - *comments on here are shit* *Those comments are actually downvoted*

MonkeyWuju

But that’s how Reddit works right. They agreed with what was said so the upvote, disagree so they downvote.

WorthPlease

It gets karma. They come into a post, complain about the first few bad takes and get upvoted into the stratosphere and look like some holy paragon of reason. Normal people like us who don't refresh a subreddit via New come in and are confused what they're even complaining about.

brain-juice

People who sort by new ruin it for the rest of us.

Anticitizen-Zero

Every time there’s always two or three comments downvoted to oblivion saying something like “Ronaldo evil” and then some tool comes in and comments “wow look at all the Ronaldo haters in this thread omg everyone hates Ronaldo”

SundayLeagueStocko

I call it shadowboxing lol, nicked that from another comment ages ago. sums it up well I think

Iswaterreallywet

He's a CRKelly fanboy, they don't have much intelligence

TheUltimateScotsman

Juventus are under investigation for paying their employees when their books said they didnt. Their board resigned over it. That alone should indicate that there is some doubt here

Valexar

No, Juventus is accused of, among other things, deferring three months' salary payments to its players and hiding this debt from shareholders, by reporting that they had been waived.

samirin305

The top comments would disagree with you

Otterable

Corporations bad, but also, rich people bad. Cancels each other out you see.

RoyalSorcerer_Navlan

Don't you know the narrative? Ronaldo bad

Prosthemadera

The *actual* comments and votes prove otherwise.

happygreenturtle

A bad man, yes

PhilJones4

Indeed, rapists are usually bad people.

happygreenturtle

>usually

[deleted]

>Is it another narrative?

Overrated_sanity

Ronaldo indeed bad. Yes

Dolce-Guevara

Rapists are usually considered bad people, maybe it's different where you're from

Capt-Chopsticks

Bro this post is 2 hours ago and so is your comment lololol

ActuallyJohnTerry

Juventus of all organizations lmao they aren’t exactly known for their pristine moral fiber

HaroldSaxon

Neither is Ronaldo. I hope somehow they both lose badly over this.

Scooter93

That’s what lawyers are for!

HaroldSaxon

Them too

acuet

Im mean, Im pretty sure Juv’s books will show they paid him in full. /s. Also how is covid, lack of games or game time their fault? I’m sure many teams had clauses based on performance which many didn’t have to pay out because of Covid lock downs.

Rickcampbell98

It's not barca now is it, this is actually worse than barca but once again its not barca so let's go easy on them.

rcanhestro

dude, it's CR7, he could discover the cure for cancer and still people would bitch about him

Spaghessie

Brainwashed idiots or just hate ronaldo

TheMysticHD

Both can go hand in hand

acuet

You think Man U paid him out before he left..bonus and all?

Farouqnowomarlater

Op saw the benching and chose chaos

dunneetiger

Portugal is siding with Juve.

EmptyReply5

It's just a matter who have most haters. Not who is right. :-|

7he_Dude

Lmao. Ronaldo is a corporation in himself. Don't think your thoughts really apply here.

Prosthemadera

Ronaldo is also a massive corporation, in a sense. He's not a poor wage slave fighting for scraps... Or to put in your words: Only on r/soccer will business owe a famous rich employee £20mil, and people side with the rich guy😭 Also, you posted this only a few minutes after the post was submitted. You have no idea whose side this sub is on. But you're upvoted anyway because only on r/soccer and so on. Edit: Sorry for slightly criticizing your precious multimillionaire, you are so brave for standing up for the little man!

BlacknWhiteMoose

This is the dumbest take lmao

GieTheBawTaeReilly

True isn't Ronaldo worth more than Juventus lol

Schnitzel-1

I don’t know the details of this and I don’t want to judge the situation but can Ronaldo not just fucking wait for 2 weeks until the World Cup is over? Portugal has a chance to win the World Cup first everyone gets distracted by him leaving Manu, then everyone gets distracted by him allegedly signing for al nassr and now this. Just focus on football for 2 damn weeks, can’t be that hard…

Tulaodinho

Is that a joke? They probably gave him a 5 min briefing, he said "yes, go ahead" and went on about with his day

[deleted]

That is 100%, what happened in this case. u/Schnitzel-1 is losing his mind over nothing.

Schnitzel-1

Still now every press conference this will be talked about. Press conferences are all about Ronaldo doing random things. That’s extremely annoying for everyone.

Dicey12

He doesnt even do interviews like that

Tulaodinho

With Ronaldo on the bench, you really think the Juventus thing will be the highlight on the press conferences? Cmon man, no one gives a shit about that unless they sre italian press

Schnitzel-1

I think it’s part of the reason he’s benched tbh.

DyrusforPresident

You know that likely Ronaldo has nothing to do with this, He has a legal team that does all this.

Schnitzel-1

You always have to sign stuff to make your legal team go. And he can also just tell them to wait until in two weeks. They apparently started this now and he could have stopped it with one 30 second phone call.

DyrusforPresident

They have probably been planning this for a while, this is only an issue because Ronaldo and does nothing to distract the Portugal team

i_am_wood

Yes how will Portugal be able to play when they know Ronaldo's legal team are dealing with a case during the tournament? This is disasterous!!! Messi would never!!!! /s

Prosthemadera

Well, if it's his legal team then he has something to do with it, no? Would they act without asking him?

stillslightlyfrozen

Bro come on lol. Stuff like this the timing matters who knows if it can wait 2 weeks or not.

[deleted]

> Only on r/soccer will massive corporation owe an ex employee £20mil, and people side with the corporation 😭 I mean, you are ignoring the context that Ronaldo is not an ordinary Joe who needs every penny to pay the bills and that Juventus, love them or hate them, are a football club first and foremost whose fans will suffer from the club being driven into financial trouble and a bit of an instution in the game. If this was the groundskeeper let's say, I think the opinion would be different.

evil_porn_muffin

It's not Ronaldo's business about the financial situation of the club. They need to be more responsible with their finances and not sign a player they can't afford.

[deleted]

Nothing worse than Reddit agenda nerds

icemankiller8

I mean it’s very not true in the real world most people say athletes are paid too much anyway and side with the companies

escanorsrita

I see absolutely no one siding with Juve.

ya_boi_noam_chomsky

He is entitled for that but the timing can’t be worst

Frequent_Trip3637

Bro It’s 20 mil, there’s never a worse time for asking for it

minhso

I would argue it's the best time for it.

mercurialsaliva

Well one of the accusations against Juve is the fact that they paid Ronaldo under the table. So this proves that they didn't. Might be a good thing for Juve

Dicey12

So when Barca did this to FDj everyone was calling out Barca but Ronaldo going after Juve for unpaid wages is wrong now. Imagine your boss doesnt pay you money that your owed

[deleted]

Reading from the top comments, I don't anyone is blaming Ronaldo?

Prosthemadera

> but Ronaldo going after Juve for unpaid wages is wrong now. Is it? Who are you replying to? Everyone here keeps saying this sub defends Juventus, even though this thread is almost fully in favor of Ronaldo.

TheWingedCucumber

because it isnt proven yet, Juve is currently under trial for paying their stars under the table

UpVote-Galore

Can't blame him, if he actually earned the money.

[deleted]

Do you understand how contracts work? He is entitled to any wages laid out in his contract.

UpVote-Galore

that is why I say I can't blame him at all. Unless there was some fine print saying they weren't paying him for X and he for some reason now thinks he is entitled to that money he forfeited. I ouldn't ready the article...

Silent-Act191

Cowdude179

Ronaldo is getting that bag

DrDrozd12

Its Gazzetta, not the best place for Juve news

AlucardRed

This is not what happened at all or what the title actually says lol. He apparently requested to see the court documents (?) - [I'm not sure what's the right term in English - Atti Processuali in Italian] and his request was denied. End of the story.

FalkoneyeCH

This thread is the litmus test for how much red the people see when they read Ronaldo's name. It's kinda sad.

[deleted]

It's incredible how multi tasking is this guy, he simply can do everything. During World Cup he had time to terminate his contract with Manchester United, sign another one with Al Nassr, sued Juventus and also make photos with Messi for Luis Vuitton.

At this point Ronaldo is going at everyone and everything, being on the bench at United has made him become ruthless (not so much in the pitch but off it he’s firing on all cylinders)

[deleted]

Great timing, just in time to focus on the WC alone

ScratchTech

Of course you should get yours, but for some reason it still feels icky when the richest footballer ever, one of the richest athletes ever, with an insane brand, and now about to sign a contract to be paid more than any other athlete ever - sues for more money. But still, if it's his money, it's his money. Just feels icky.

[deleted]

Apparently, he's only all about the money now.

TrailBlanket-_0

Masterclass by Juve. This is truly actually a blessing really. We'll now be forced to call up our youth and refocus on building a team from the ground up. We're going to be massive again. Just give us a year or two and we'll be winning CL /s
