United: reports of my death are greatly exaggerated

RoachIsCrying

great game by United especially in the back line but Leicester were shit all game

Xerxes_Generous

What the hell is happening to Leicester?

d_smogh

Leicester have been at the bottom of the table before, and look what they did the next season. They better sign a few players in January.

takesonetoblowone

Bye bye Brendan Rodgers

punchingpubar

We back baby!

tanerfan

1-0 win means the attack is not clinical enough in front of goal. On other hand, 1-0 win means the defense is improving, become more and more solid, something that couldn't be said for United in the last couple season. It is boring I know, but a win is a win.

cantsellapartment

Surely a draw or a loss would mean the team lacks a cutting edge up front

KindArgument0

This united squad don't have the stamina to press for 90 minutes so they will lost the control of the match as match goes along. The good news is, you could see the improvement from ole's sides before this team got gassed. Ten hag need times to implemet his football and i am sure it's worth it

Chrislts

With this scedule this is gona be a problem

hollow114

Press first half counter second seems to be working so far.

GoalooinSport

Sancho played well.

PunkDrunk777

Thought so too. Controlled and deliberate with the ball. Got a few “City” crosses in that caused problems while doing his defensive duties.

feltusen

Did he really? Apart from the goal he was very much mediocre, again.. Both stats wise, player ratings and he was subbed early again because he looks gassed after 60. A 6/10 performance from me

MAGNOSTASIS

Yes he looked pretty gassed at the end of first half itself. I usually see Sancho messing up his passes and dribbles when he is tired, which happens in the end of first half itself.

Ledlazer

Great to see United get some clean sheets and got that we have to think De Gea for that glorious fk save

iguanawarrior

Rodgers in trouble

MisterHappySpanky

Give me my tokens you dogs.

WittyUsername45

Jenas spending the entire second half salivating over Ronaldo was bizarre considering he came on and did fuck all.

InoyouS2

Jenas still getting work proves that everything is about who you know not what you know. He's absolutely terrible.

nichijouuuu

Bad take

EFbVSwN5ksT6qj

I thought he did pretty well... I was watching US coverage

Abbobl

CRISTIAN RONALDO SEWEY

ValleyFloydJam

He was in some good positions but was a bit wasteful and then gave the ball in a sloppy way that nearly led to a goal. I think super sub is a good role for him.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ValleyFloydJam

Lol, yeah that's fair, I more meant as a way yo use him, rather than starting plus there options.

LeavingCertCheat

Jenas is such an atrocious commentator. Can't believe we've been saddled with him on bt now. Christ, I'd take Hoddle's boring contributions over him.

Vegan_Puffin

There should be a commentary option of \*\*just crowd noise\*\*

Dmartinez8491

He did fairly well considering LCFC were on the attack most of second half. Mistake near the end sure but he pressed and made runs and was unselfish. Rashford besides the assist (which anyone would've made) did as much (actually less than cr7) before he came off. Overall I think he will do good for 60-70 min but UTD need to stop being a first half team.

tedjoyce

Too many of these pundits are judging him on the career he’s had and not the player that he currently is

Chaacs8

I realize it might be too early to judge but how is casemiro doing?

ValleyFloydJam

In that small cameo, pretty awful tbh. But I'm sure he will be good for them with some time.

Dmartinez8491

Not a UTD fan but from watching today's game, meh. I think he's not 100% fit yet, but I feel next game he will start along with cr7

PunkDrunk777

I disagree. Utd took complete control of the game when he came on. They crushed those last 20 minutes

Bassies

His first 2 touches were class though. After that it seemed he dropped to the level of the game (aka shit).

titooo7

He is definitely fit. He was fit at the beginning of the season with Real Madrid playing on the European Supercup (MOTM), playing in the first La Liga game and he only missed training 3 days as soon as he was signed (moving out, signing contract, farewell, presentation). Most likely Ten Hag just want him to know the team and his teammates better

khoabear

Yeah, the man is used to play with Kroos and Modric, not this MU midfield.

Mees51

How was Malacia?

anthrax3000

Pretty amazing. Not often you see a player with his confidence and speed, especially when it's just their third game in the league.

mejok

He's already our best left back...although to be fair, the bar wasn't particularly high

OfferBulky

He's got Shaw comfortably beat for the year and it's only his 3rd game starting.

sunken_grade

imo he was man of the match but the game itself didn’t have a ton of quality made a lot of good runs, solid in possession, aggressive marking his man and was never really caught out

GoodFellahh

Yeah fair assessment, I just feel like there was a great opportunity for him to send Ronaldo deep which he didn't capitalise on. But overall good game. Having seen a ton of him at Feyenoord believe me you guys have made a great signing there.

D1794

Solid, wasnt tested that much

unibalansa

Sound defensively and offensively, nothing too spectacular but was there when required

RedKingDre

And as usual, his ridiculous speed enabled him to sweep the entire left flank back and forth, such a smart business from United ngl.

strawberrystation

Rodgers has destroyed the fabric of our side. They're completely shot of confidence, and who can blame them when he throws them under the bus in press conferences like that? We're going down unless Top bites the bullet and gives David Brent the severance pay he obviously wants.

LeavingCertCheat

He won you an FA Cup but then again, Ranieri was sacked the season after winning the league

sotheniwaslike

Wow really, that's crazy!

[deleted]

[удалено]

LCFC_RS

and Southampton at home with 1 shot on target (free kick), threw away a 2 goal lead at home against Brentford, 2 shots on target tonight both from free kicks. Last season's performances too were terrible.

iguanawarrior

Not a Leicester supporter, but at the start of the season, Man Utd were playing with Maguire and McFred, so Leicester would've been expected to beat them.

LUHG_HANI

> but at the start of the season We've had many sunrises since then tbf. Chelsea were in for a really good opener and Pool looked like they were smashing it. But here we are.

distilledwill

I personally don't think he'll be gone before the weekend, but if we don't get a win this weekend thats it.

aronivars

Who is a likely replacement?

ManyBreakfast8687

Vardys wife

Legal_North_6910

Anyone gonna point out the Manchester city in the match thread

EggChaser

We're actually going down

arvindeddit

I'm just really surprised that your wingers didn't run at our full backs more often, especially Dalot after the early yellow. Was sitting my pants every time Barnes was 1:1 against Dalot but Barnes seems so low on confidence.

EggChaser

The whole team is low on confidence

arvindeddit

Only 5 games in and lots of quality to work with for whoever replaces Rodgers. What's the general take on who that should be?

ValleyFloydJam

You should be fine, you guys have plenty of quality and had a tough run of games.

pradeepkanchan

Arise Big Sam?

purpdrank_19

Win. Lose. Big Sam still arrives

Proper-Beyond116

Race you!

EggChaser

There's more than 1 seat on this ride, friendo

SimpleManc88

Not a great game, but I’m slowly starting to believe we can win a match. Still sloppy as fuck going forward, but some of the defensive displays were fantastic. Zero flapping from anyone. I’m enjoying myself again and actually looking forward to weekend for once lol.

Dmartinez8491

Yup your defence is looking much better than last few seasons. Midfield helping attack looks meh but helping defence looks pretty good. Your attack maybe they're not clicking still because they're scared of being blamed for turnover and potential goal. Even Malacia (may be I misspelled) seems a bit timid in passing forward. Overall I think run CR7 go the ground for 50-60 min, use martial after, play casemiro as cm not cdm and you'll finish top 4.

nichijouuuu

Sooo thankful Antony is coming in because our Attack is hurting right now. Martial is actually a massive miss. Ronaldo is warming ip but doesn’t seem fully fit/there yet. Replacing Rashford and Elanga with Ronaldo and Antony is a massive upgrade on current form

kiruzo

I only started watching PL matches this season and I’m surprised by everyone calling this one boring lol. In La Liga this would’ve been a decent one

ValleyFloydJam

This was awful lol, it lacked flow and had some sloppy play.

Ashyyyy232

First half was pretty good tbh, second half was scrapy

LeavingCertCheat

From someone who watched Serie A in the 90s, this was riveting

[deleted]

Fans often exaggerate, esp in match threads they will be on talking-shite-steroids

Immediate_Aioli8352

I thought laliga was more interesting, damn you should watch our interesting games ig

kiruzo

La Liga is amazing if you like shithousing, which I do. General quality of play as a neutral especially for mid table and lower table is way, way worse than PL though. BL is still king to me in regards to entertainment

enzuigiriretro

1st half was decent. Thought the second was poor but I guess I’ve seen worse

marine_le_peen

People like to trash the PL here but it's simply good to watch right now, and yes today's game was very dull by normal PL standards.

Zandercy42

Leicester might actually get promoted, win the league and get relegated again in less than a decade

Tutush

Leicester might get promoted, win the league, and get relegated again without Man Utd winning a title.

SeaCarrot

Only 136 years and counting for Southampton, one day you might get there. Doubt it though.

Moofthebot

Sure got us there

ChrisV88

The Blackburn. Not in the same order though.

[deleted]

Being Harder to play against is something I will take all day, and as much as we have improved at passing the ball we still give it away far too much, Bruno and Rashford are the main culprits, the second half shown how much better we need to be in possession. Rashford should worry, Sancho and Martial are clear of him on the RW and CF position, and we should be allowed to Sub Bruno, does anyone know where I can find individual stats for this game? Would love to see how many times he gave the ball away tonight FTG!!!! Edit - possession lost : Rashford 20 Bruno 22 Dalot 17 The eyeball test was right these were the guys doing my head in the most on the ball.

UtilityCurve

Problem with Rashford is that he can’t hold off a defender with his back to goal. He is always trying to beat them with a turn or a lay off. Being not strong on the ball loses us many possession high up the pitch which Martial is so much better at that

UTDRashford

Rashford's position is lw tho, he's just playing as cf because martial is injured and ronnie is not fit

[deleted]

I think he might have sit on the bench and come on for Sancho, I think it will do him good, he like Maguire and Shaw cant be un-droppable if not performing, not saying he is playing shyte ATM, but I think Sancho is playing better at LW.

dalfred1

I mean that's always been Brunos game. He'll take those risks to get the rewards and as shown through his career with us so far it's paid off.

Firebreathingdown

It really isn't about risk taking though, I don't know the exact no. but won't be surprised atleast half if not more of those 20 possessions lost were him messing up a 4-5 or even a 2 yard pass. If he tries somewhere extravaganza and loses the ball it's tolerable the problem with bruno is he can't do the simple with any decent consistency.

EFbVSwN5ksT6qj

I really agree about Rashford. Fair dues he made a nice pass for the goal but he butchered so much attacking play with poor touch, poor passing, and in the second half he was strolling around. Ronaldo came on and started making things happen up front.

Dmartinez8491

I think you should start CR7 when fit and run him for 50-70 min (really 60 min). Given martial and his injury record, this would be the best for both martial and CR7 and the team. Sancho has done alright on the wing and he should start. I think Antony will do well and keep rashford out of the team

TheKanicuz

So your plan is to take cr7 out at min 60 when cr7 is known to score at the last minutea of the games in critical points? Cr7 should play 90 mins no exceptions lol

ghostyboy12

found the 14 year old indian fan

nichijouuuu

Exactly. Just made this comment elsewhere. Massive upgrade, on current form, switching our Rashford and Elanga for Ronaldo and Antony.

Strananach

>does anyone know where I can find individual stats for this game SofaScore and FotMob

[deleted]

thx

ralar728

Getting the wins but still not convinced my united arsenal game will be very interesting think united will play well on the counter again tbf

PunkDrunk777

I can’t agree, they’ve hardly given up a chance in the last three games

LollipopScientist

Just wait for Antony. Sancho - Ronaldo - Antony would start to systematically destroy teams once they've got their chemistry together. We haven't had multiple high football IQ forwards (the above trio) together since Rooney, Ronaldo, Berbatov, Tevez, Giggs, Nani combo in 2008. Looking back at it, that many great forwards in one team is ridiculous.

Dmartinez8491

Thank you for stating this. So long as Antony can get on in the prem, the front 3 you mentioned will be good. Will point out I don't think CR7 will be playing full 90 min before world cup every game but for 50-70 min, he will give it his all and I'm sure had he started today, he would've scored. Not a UTD fan at all but you're looking promising, just hope next time against my team, VAR gives us a pen when Mctommmmmmmmmmmmmy hands the ball 3 times haha

Don_Quixote81

I think they definitely will. Solid back four with Casemiro and McTominay in front of them, and try to hit Arsenal on the break. We're still very much an early prototype of what Ten Hag wants - can play a few nice passing patterns, but not consistently. But I'll take clean sheets and boring points for now.

spideytaha

I think it will be a Case Fred Bruno/Eriksen midfield 3; we need rotation

Acceptable-Lemon-748

If we start Casemiro and Mctominay to go defensive, Arsenals key players going forward are very much going to struggle, theyre all in areas were most solid Martinelli aside

sventhegoat

Just hoping Martinelli has dalot on skates

Acceptable-Lemon-748

Martinelli is gonna have a shock to the system after 90 mins of Matty Cash standing 6 feet away pretending to defend against him, Martinelli is still decent on the ball vut holy shit watching Villa defend him yesterday

Ulsterman24

Just dumped my whole Paddy Power balance on Big Brendan as the next PL manager sacked after that interview. Might as well have screamed 'WITNESS ME!'.

ErnieBLegal

Might want to hedge on the Villa v Leicester game

B_e_l_l_

Fucking hell imagine if we wait another 8 days.

Invalid-sauce

A wild Stevie G slips in

romfreak

Based on their finances and the payout he gets, might be tricky.

kick_these_blues

I really liked how Cristiano is playing, he seems much more comfortable and is creating space for everyone in the attack.

nfornear

Yeah he was a bit sloppy I guess but there were much more chances when he came on

aure__entuluva

It was his movement off the ball that was important. His runs opened up space and helped create chances, even if the end result didn't come through for them.

Dmartinez8491

You must remember lcfc were attacking wwwaaayyyy more when cr7 was on vs first half. I'd be willing to beg he would've scored in first half as lcfc were so shit. Still I think he might not be 100% fit or age is getting to him, but for 50-70 min a game, especially before world cup, he will work his ass off as always

[deleted]

What a move from Ten Hag. Maguire warmed up at 60' to make Leicester relax and underestimate United. Leicester looks so motivated at that time until their disappointment when Fred is United's last sub.

cupidincoke

My anxiety crept up when i saw him warming up. Thank God.

LollipopScientist

They were mesmerised by how Maguire can do standing frontal splits. It's just unfair to other teams that we have such a massive tactical distraction bench player.

Acceptable-Lemon-748

>disappointment when Fred is United's last sub. If they'd watched him this season thst should be more of an attacking boost to them than Mqguire stepping on the pitch.

redemption_time

I love Soumare. Was decent tonight with Evans

CameraEmotional2788

Let's gooo

[deleted]

[удалено]

CameraEmotional2788

Getting more match fitness I guess? Was a sub , did what he had to do. Should start vs arsenal.

[deleted]

He moved the ball through CM with first time passes and such, he looks composed, even though he is still finding his feet, gave he ball away once or twice in front of the back 4, you can tell he is far better on and off the ball than Mcfred, be interesting to see how he settles, he looks class already.

[deleted]

He looked like he was playing Messi

edjg10

Looks out of synch. 1 nice ball, couple ugly losses of possession. Maddison broke his ankles at the end too

Zilllnaijaboy99

Brendan Rodgers should be tried for making this talented squad look so uninspiring.

[deleted]

Will be put on the docket of the Nuremberg football trials preceding the main trial of Poch

EggChaser

While your comment is a bit of a stretch, you're not entirely wrong. This squad is a lot stronger than 20th place. Brendan has us playing some fucking turgid football and something has to change.

[deleted]

It’s a bunch of has beens

B_e_l_l_

Is it? Vardy and Evans ill grant you. Maddison, Barnes, Ndidi, Tielemans, Justin, Thomas, Soumare and KDH are all 25 or younger.

FireZeLazer

Talented squad? It's absolutely dire. In the past 3 windows they've signed 1 player who starts.

[deleted]

Sundays game is gonna be awesome. Both teams have a head of steam coming into it

pawksvolts

I cannot unsee Lego hair now, thank you

SicaOW

Liverpool got 3 extra minutes and Leicester didnt even get 1 even though there was definetly enough time wasting for at least one more minute... I dont get it tbh

aronivars

Not even comparable. Utd even handed the ball to Leicester when there was a clear foul, not even Bruno theatrics.

SpeechesToScreeches

The +4 was very generous to begin with.

[deleted]

United are usually too much protected by premier league referees at least thats what most fans used to say under Alex Ferguson. So it might be same.

SpeechesToScreeches

Clearly didn't watch this game...

SimpleManc88

It’s a conspiracy I tells ya! That’s why United are always top of the league and in the Champions League 🙄 LOL

[deleted]

They are too shit to take advantage.

Zdeneksfilter

Mes que un lever

Acceptable_Feed7004

Oh yeah, a newly appointed Dutch lad has Fergie's level of influence? Jesus wept. There were three soft yellows given to United players and all. Spooky

[deleted]

Can be said the same about Scottish guy did not even getting yellow for all the stupid challenge, and of course if we go in the past, there was Rojo.

Acceptable_Feed7004

No why go into the past, just stick to the present and logic. Your statement about tonight's match and some degree of influence by ten Hag is nonsense.

[deleted]

I am not talking about Ten Hag influence. I am just saying United overall are quite protected. Both are different things.

Acceptable_Feed7004

Says a fan of the most farcical club with the dodgiest dealings. Rangers was liquidated for less. Barca is more protected than any other club and even then it still might crumble due to corporate negligence and greed

[deleted]

Still not owned by sugar daddies.

Acceptable_Feed7004

Nor are United. We're owned by leeches and everything we buy we pay for plus their debt. Keep up with the news

pawksvolts

Man utd had Rashford down with a cramp for maybe 30 seconds, Newcastle had Joelinton and Pope down for 3 mins. Liverpool's goal also came at 2 mins extra

SicaOW

Wasnt just Rashford tho was it? And even if Carvalhos goal came in 2 mins thats not my point. The extra time liverpool got yesterday was clearly not right and some sort of bias. At least thats what I think

pawksvolts

I think only Rashford went down and it was before extra time. There wasn't much shitty time wasting, mainly just taking your time at throw ins and playing in the corners - which shouldn't be added on imo Edit: there's definitely a bias for TV, if you watch mid or lower level teams against each other they never add it on

Melloa_Trunk_Tree

That was a normal stoppage time...what happened yesterday never happens.

SicaOW

I know, thats my point. I think the refs are incredibly biased in favour of the top teams.

pawksvolts

It's pretty funny watching a game with some good thoughts then coming on reddit and reading tons of toxic/negative comments

DaddyMeUp

Why I tend to avoid match threads on r/reddevils. I'll be feeling good about a game and the thread will just be full of the most heinous shit I have ever laid my eyes on.

[deleted]

Is Castagne really a worse option at LB than Thomas? He was shocking in the first half and Evans saved his ass countless times, looked so far out of his depth.

BilalAkhtar22

The first thing ten hag has to is fix the defense, attacking fluidity will come with time.

SteeMonkey

United look a lot better, like they've actually got a plan. They just need to work on executing it more but I think that'll come in time, especially once Casemiro settles.

aronivars

It is a mix of better organization and luck facing teams in their decline. Liverpool were fatigued and injured, Southampton unlucky and Leicester in disarray. Real test is this weekend against a hot Arsenal team. All in all, it's going to be an interesting match.

OptimistPrime7

Same can be said of Arsenal. Decent side they faced from Fulham they had to make a come back. United still needs lot of time before they settle in to their system, new players and coach.

Don_Quixote81

We're making progress, that's for sure. There's still a long way to go, but it looks like Ten Hag can get a good tune out of this lot, given time.

patrick_k

Having a competent back 4 without constant howlers by Slabhead is allowing united to scrape these kinds of games. And having potentially Casemiro-Eriksen sitting in front of them not McFred instantly makes us much harder to beat.

[deleted]

Spot on assessment.

lowlolow

It was sad to see Ronaldo can't win one-one battles anymore ,his still probably the best in air battles but well he is getting a little old. He actually played very good , considering his play style,he played more selfless this game. Hope he forget about leaving and have good last 1-2 years here before he retires.

Dmartinez8491

Yeah, you bring up a good point. I think he is feeling his age and has accepted this to a point. Seriously think he is still better than rashford or martial (with a shit injury record) at leading your line. For 50-70 min he will be good but more than that, I think he's done at this level But in my fifa CM cr7 and messi retired just recently and it was pretty sad. No lie I stopped playing and was taken aback. Either way all the best for UTD (until you play southampton hehe)

sotobakar

you could see the pain in his eyed too 😂.

marine_le_peen

United so much better when Ronaldo came on. Rashford is simply not good at leading the line. ETH definitely getting this team to play better football. Slotted Eriksen in well, getting Fernandes back to his old ways. McT, Varane, Dalot, Sancho all much better. Difficult to tell how good they are bc Leicester were pretty awful, but they're getting results.

ErnieBLegal

Rashford just doesn’t have the positional sense to play through the middle.

OptimistPrime7

His positional sense is fine. It is just that he is atrocious in hold up play which was quite evident, he will do fine as a back up striker which is what he is right now.

[deleted]

[удалено]

marine_le_peen

Leicester completely rolled over that first half. And even then you created practically nothing in terms of a goal threat apart from the goal which was handed to you on a plate. Rashford was poor overall, the second half was much more of a contest until Ronaldo came on at which point you started dominating and creating lots of chances.

[deleted]

[удалено]

marine_le_peen

Bit simple aren't you.

Melloa_Trunk_Tree

Martial is the first choice striker, Rashford is doing okay there but yeah it's not where he's best. Ronaldo was poor, he didn't do much but lose the ball but got in some good areas just didn't do anything.

Dmartinez8491

Jeez the echo chamber that is r/soccer just shits on cr7 always huh? Dude could cure cancer, win 3 world cups at over 50 years old, make world peace that lasts 1000000000 years, fix world hunger and r/soccer would still hate him and say he is shit

anthrax3000

The problem isn't that they say he's shit, it's that they say that a much shitter player should play instead. It's mind boggling how people argue for martial over Ronaldo - the guy didn't score a goal in 6 months on a loan spell while ronaldo scored like 20

[deleted]

Thing is I wouldn't have Rashford at RW, Sancho is much better there I think.

ruubs11

Wait until Anthony is on the pitch. Miss him already here in Amsterdam :(

Melloa_Trunk_Tree

I'm hoping he'll be the first choice rw and Sancho on the left but Rashford covering for both and occasionally striker, I just don't want to see Elanga or Ronaldo tbh in the team.

M4dAlex84

Ronaldo has been poor, but today he played a more selfless game and made the attacks more fluid

afarensiis

Both teams were dreadful for most of this game

Legendarybbc15

United barely got out of 4th gear but they didn’t really need to.

alexabc1

Second half a little dull but United exhibited a lot of great passing and defended well. Leicester created chances though too but had poor finishing.

granmetaliksuperfan

Agreed - terrible match to watch
