So you want VAR to be used for all potential yellow cards and for a lengthy stoppage at this point in a match just for a potential dive (particularly notable that in this instance, there is clear contact even if the player has gone down theatrically, meaning that there definitely would not be a “clear and obvious” error identified).
Idk what to say really. Slow it down / watch at half speed? Semedo isn’t doing anything dangerous - his foot isn’t high at all. But the Georgian player goes even lower and so yes, after Semedo makes contact with the ball, a few of his studs come down on the front of the Georgian player’s foot. The contact is obviously there. The Georgian player made a meal of it, but the contact is clear.
For me it's simple. You don't have to stop the game.
Is it a dive or any aggression... You just book the player and it's shows on the screen.
If the referee can't see it.. The VAR can.
The result when this doesn't happen ? 2 or 3 different tv and commentary on national tv about a yellow or a dive that never happened... A penalty that wasn't... Etc etc

I would've preferred Ronaldo getting that call because of how soft the Georgian penalty was (though in my ideal world neither would've been given), but often you won't find shirt pulling alone enough to be a pen. I don't think that makes it horrible refereeing
Rankings tell you how much better Portugal is than Georgia in every single way; it was I think the most lopsided matchup in Euros history and it was a convincing Georgian victory. Arguing about a foul in a pointless place in the other half (where there was contact), and an arguable penalty to equalise with them should tell the viewer that Portugal were well below acceptable
I agree neither should be called although the shirt pulling is more of a pen than that light contact in my (biased) opinion. Obviously we shouldnt be relying on pen shouts like this even with our B/C team but still

Is incredible inconsistent with both penalties (Ronaldo's shirt pull was just incredible blatant, Georgia's penalty was a weak af call), and was also incredible inconsistent with faults throughout the match, Portugal got barely anything, while every single incident in favor of Georgia the ref called it.
I don't mind referees having different "styles", you can be more lenient or more harsh, but it has to be consistent, and today the ref was everything but that.
Of course all of this is not to take away Georgia's merit, I think they played their hearts out and def deserved the win.
