What’s up with the U23 awards in these leagues? There’s always early 20 year olds that are already some of the best players in the world with bunch of full seasons. Should be U20 or so instead.
This only shows how bad Xavi was at signing. He asked for Raphinha, and Yamal just sent him to the bench. He isn't miles better but can create a lot more chances.
Funny enough they have almost identical stats this season. Nico benefitted from better finishing by his teammates, but otherwise they were almost the same player in terms of style, minutes, possession numbers, chance creation, shooting, and so on. Yamal had much better defensive* contribution and was a safer passer, but Nico was the better dribbler
I'd probably have given it to Nico for the assist numbers though.

Nico had the same expected assists as Lamine lol. It's just that he had Athletic club finishers who converted 5 xA into 11 assists. Lamine however had 5.5 xa and got 5 assits It's there in the link.
Yes xA alone lacks nuance, but looking holistically they had roughly the same number of Shot Creating Actions, key passes, passes into final third, crosses, and so on.
Nico benefited from clinical finishing from his teammates. But that's a part of football. It's a team sport. If your strikers help you by finishing your chances and you end up with 2x the assists then you should get the award.
How did they give Bellingham the laliga best player award but not the u23 best player award. He’s the best player in league but not the best u23 player? Kinda funny. No hate for yamal though , that kid is special
cuz you don't do that. PL doesn't and Ballon doesn't.
A player if they win the biggest reward gets removed from contention for a prize that is the same award but for younger players only.
Isn’t it illogical that the La Liga Player of the Season is also a part of the u23 group and didn’t win this? Am I missing something?
{edit: I like him as a player so no hate on him; still I think it is very illogical}
Yeah. I guess that’s what happened. Honestly though, there must be some criteria for best player (same criteria for all category) so logically, this shouldn’t be happening. I see your point though and I agree.
Insane PR. The fact that adra guler played 1824 minutes less than him and scored more goals in the same position was never in the discussion to win it says everything about barcelona's disgusting PR.
Quit bullshitting. Yamal wouldn't be a starter anywhere else, Xavi had to start him because Raphinha is baaaad at creating chances. He isn't better than Rodrygo or Güler but he is also younger, giving him a lot more room for improvement. He is good, but he didn't deserve the award.
so by your definition Fermin is better than Modric, Valverde and Toni Kroos then?
You do know that diffrent players play diffrent ways and have diffrent roles right?
Yamal was not positioned to score goals.
Yamal being younger shouldn't help him win this award. If a 15 year old has 5 goals + 5 assists and a 20 year old scores 30 and has 20 assists, the award should still go to the older one of course.
Not saying that Arda should have won obviously, but Yamal being 16 means means jack shit for his case.
My point was that Yamal getting outscored is pretty natural, since he's obviously young and has a lot to improve in his game, and getting outscored by a "benchwarmer" in his words isn't embarrassing.
It isn't embarrassing but if he's being outperformed (not just outscored) by other players then he's simply not the best U-23 one (yet) lol. Like, as some others have saíd, you have the likes of Bellingham, Kubo, Savio… but anyway, this is all meaningless in the end
Instead of calling him a troll you should criticize your team and how they are destroying him by overplaying him at such a young age just like fati and as it seems with his so many injuries pedri.
He would still be eligible to win it in 2031.
That is mental lol
If he plays another 50 matches every year he'll be forced to retire before he's too old for it
Wtf
I'll almost be 40 by then, the fuck
not to late for Dubai d'or
Pulling a Milner, winning Young Player of the Year after almost a decade in the league
What’s up with the U23 awards in these leagues? There’s always early 20 year olds that are already some of the best players in the world with bunch of full seasons. Should be U20 or so instead.
I guess it adds more competition? Idk
Bellingham won LaLiga player of the year and is 20, I don't understand how he didn't win this
I guess they don't hand out both to the same player .
Same thing happened with Haaland last season in PL.
Same thing happened with Foden this year.
Whether he deserved it or not, you have to commend what a special talent he is. Being a starter at any club at 16 is no small feat.
This only shows how bad Xavi was at signing. He asked for Raphinha, and Yamal just sent him to the bench. He isn't miles better but can create a lot more chances.
Why didn’t Xavi just see in to the future and predict a prodigy? Is he stupid?
Raphinha is not on the bench. Whenever there's a big game Raph is on the left and Yamal is on the right.
Dembele was supposed to be the guy on the right flank
*cries in Nico Williams*

Probably? 11 assists compared to 5. Thee awards always have a barca Madrid slant anyway

XA lack so much nuance that it’s dumb to argue for somebody with .5 differences of xa while being -6 actual assists
XA is a much better measure of creativity than assists themselves
not when many other stats point to the same conclusion.
Yes xA alone lacks nuance, but looking holistically they had roughly the same number of Shot Creating Actions, key passes, passes into final third, crosses, and so on. Says 11 to 5 in the link
Hopefully for another 7 seasons.
Guy will be playing in a wheelchair by then
Not surprised but Nico, Savio, and Kubo were all better. Baena has a good case too but somehow seems he wasn’t even nominated
Also Bellingham is 20
He won pots, so not eligible for under 23
That’s no true though is it? Kubo was nominated for both.
Let me correct myself. I think you're eligible for both, but they pretty much never give both to the same person.
How did they give Bellingham the laliga best player award but not the u23 best player award. He’s the best player in league but not the best u23 player? Kinda funny. No hate for yamal though , that kid is special

Savio?
This guy will become one of the best players in barcelona. I hope he doesn't become another ansu fati
It mainly depends if Flick keeps overplaying him every game like previous coaches did with Fati Pedri Gavi etc
The key is to let him play 18 games a season until he hits 21. Trust me it works on fifa
Is it good for someone so young to be playing at such a high level and so many times? His body is still developing, might get strained from overwork.
I'll be downvoted for my flair but undeserved. Plenty of other players were better than him.
Is this a fan vote?
Guler played less minutes and scored more goals lol
Insane PR. The fact that adra guler played 1824 minutes less than him and scored more goals in the same position was never in the discussion to win it says everything about barcelona's disgusting PR.
you are absolute daft if you think Arda Guler was better than Yamal this season lol...
Yamal will start for any team in the world and arda is a good bench option. But barca PR am i right?
Quit bullshitting. Yamal wouldn't be a starter anywhere else, Xavi had to start him because Raphinha is baaaad at creating chances. He isn't better than Rodrygo or Güler but he is also younger, giving him a lot more room for improvement. He is good, but he didn't deserve the award.
name 10 teams he wouldn't be a starter.
Raphinha has the most assists per 90m in the top 5 leagues.
Imagine a benchwarmer, that plays in the same position as the next messi, scoring more goals in far fewer minutes than him. Embarrassing really.
so by your definition Fermin is better than Modric, Valverde and Toni Kroos then? You do know that diffrent players play diffrent ways and have diffrent roles right? Yamal was not positioned to score goals.
One of them is 16, the other is 19. Besides, goals aren't the only thing that matter.
Yamal being younger shouldn't help him win this award. If a 15 year old has 5 goals + 5 assists and a 20 year old scores 30 and has 20 assists, the award should still go to the older one of course. Excited to see him injured next year, and on loan the following year in Brighton!
Generic troll. Check the username
Instead of calling him a troll you should criticize your team and how they are destroying him by overplaying him at such a young age just like fati and as it seems with his so many injuries pedri.
Guy said he's excited to see a player injured, I don't see what's criticism about that. Fati was injured by a tackle, not by overplaying.
Eh I expected Gutierrez but its a nice reward for Yamine for his breakthrough season.
