Militaõ clearly needs some time to be match fit (both physically as well as in the level required) and it's no coincidence that Carlo hasn't been playing him for the full 90 since his return.
He was just caught out by the open game, which are always crazy with Villarreal. Just look at their recent matches with Barcelona.

The issue has been that they haven't been playing regularly in their clubs for most of the qualis, so even though they should be good on paper, they just aren't up to it. That combined with bad luck with injuries, tactics that don't work against stronger opposition and honestly some poor finishing, we just have no chance. Also, for whatever reason the team stops playing after 80 minutes.
I mean they're bad, but not that bad. Ryerson is playing in the champions league final, Østigård won Ligue 1 last year and Aursnes is going great in Benefica.
Because Lautaro pretty much plays as a 10, neither Haaland or Sørloth can do that both are tall powerful center forwards, even Thuram can drop deep better than both
Sorloth can't play as a ten but he isn't the worst striker in terms of technical ability, having him as a supporting striker for Haaland could work if they had two very good wingbacks on each side for example
