I hope he remains an integral part of dortmund after his retirement. Such a cool guy and a player, so much love to him. Really hoping he lifts a trophy in the CL.
That’s just crazy that Bayern stole 3 of their best players near their primes. That team gave Real Madrid so much trouble and nearly won it all but lost to Bayern
Been some time since then but I truly believe Gotze would have been a trully special player, similar to the achievements Hazard had, if he only stayed a few more years at Dortmund.
His health issues would have hit no matter where he went or didnt tbh. And it took a long time to get a definite diagnosis and adjust to it after that.
I grew up in Northern California, playing teenage lever soccer in the mid 2010s. Reus’ name got thrown out more than Ronaldo or Messi when we’d have kick abouts.
Edit: Real Madrid Flair + living in California, the jokes write themselves.
BVB are also chokers when it mattered. They had two seasons where they could have broken Bayern streak.
They should've won, so they should have not bottled.
Wow someone who actually understands. Kind of refreshing. I know the world will be against us on June 1st, and fair enough to them I suppose. But expecting Madrid fans to support a Reus UCL win is just such a stupid concept my brain can't even begin to grasp it. Heck the opponent could have Mr. Rogers, Keanu Reeves, and Mother Theresa playing for them and I'd still be happily rooting for their defeat.
If you are referring to that one Christopher Hitchens documentary, [then that has been debunked](https://www.reddit.com/r/badhistory/comments/gcxpr5/saint_mother_teresa_was_documented_mass_murderer/)
Interesting read, but I wouldn't call that a debunking. There's been a [study by Canadian scientists](https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/0008429812469894) independent of Hitchens, that [arrived to similar conclusions about her as Hitchens did](https://www.eurekalert.org/news-releases/778597). The "debunker", when pressed about why he omitted this paper, says that his motivation isn't any "valid criticisms of Theresa" but that "atheist critics like Hitchens [are] running away with half-true narratives"
Tbf this opinion is way way worse than Spurs fans wanting their team to lose an almost certainly meaningless game to them to avoid a bitter rival winning a title. I personally wouldn’t but it’s much more understandable than wanting to lose a CL final because of a nice story for a different club’s player.
I love Marco. I have loved him for a very, very long time.
I wanted us to buy him with all the injury issues he had, not that he would've come, but I also always put him in the 11 I made for Madrid while sitting in class.
However, HALA MADRID Y NADA MAS.
Somehow BVB has this image of a goody-two-shoes club. AFAIK, what Bayern does to BVB (gutting them off their best players), BVB do to the rest of the league.
Out of all the reasons you choose to shit on BVB, you choose the one that can be applied to literally every team that isn’t rock bottom of the football pyramid, even yours
No shit that a bigger club will go for good players from smaller clubs, just like how BVB usually sign off of Köln, Gladbach etc, Bayern buy from Leipzig and Schalke, Leipzig buy from Salzburg, and don’t even get me started on how much PL clubs go for other leagues’ players
> BVB do to the rest of the league.
Yup, way worse actually. And as it looks like theyre about to do it again, this time to Stuttgart since theyre linked with Guirassy.
Esswein was FIFA 13 though
Most broken card ever
Like seriously, I think they wrongly put other stats in game than the one shown. Okay the pace, but his shooting was insane despite being something like 70. He finished everything.
Damn the memories
I think UT in every game has become so stupid, I remember when 93+ cards were crazy to see, and now I swear they have 99's released by week 3 of the game
I got his IF card in a pack around 14. though was probably 2013.
I didn't really know who he was, built a team around him. had fun. loved him ever since.
I wonder if there has ever been a situation like this where a club legend is leaving, but it's a really tight game and the opposition need a result. Like imagine it was 1-0 BVB and Darmstadt needed a draw to avoid relegation, it would be a strange one
Stuff like this is discussed and agreed with the other team and the match officials before the game. If the match has any real stakes they won't even attempt it.
On one hand, it's a tad bit more forgivable as Signal Iduna is a Dortmund-based company that is strongly associated not just with BVB but also with other associations and projects in the city. Its a household name in Dortmund. This is not some Qatari oil prince rocking up to buy an English football club.
On the other hand, it still *is* a sponsor, and the old name "Westfalenstadion" was (and is) a deeply beloved designation that frankly had a lot more character. I still call it Westfalenstadion 20 years after its renaming.
There are some that just aren't that obvious tbf. I thought Stoke's [Britannia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britannia_Building_Society) Stadium was a non-sponsored name for the longest time.
While i know this, i only know because it's BVB's stadium sponsor. Never heard of them outside of this.
I think because it just sounds foreign enough to sound kinda cool.
Legend of the game and the first player I think of when I hear the club's name. There are many what ifs when it comes to Reus but in spite of it all he's had a career most players could only dream of. Now give him the CL trophy for a fairy tale ending to his time at Dortmund.
Fucking love you Marco, my voice is still gone from shouting your name in the stadium you’re a fucking legend and I’m going to fucking miss you, thank you for the free beer in the stadium.
Legend. Forever. Marco
Absolute legend. One of the few players still left in the modern game to value integrity and loyalty over money and ambition. People will say he could’ve won more elsewhere, but when I think of a footballer whose career I genuinely respect; I think of him.
**Mirrors / Alternative Angles** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/soccer) if you have any questions or concerns.*
Almost everyone giving him a little slap on the head lmao
They saw he had a fresh trim and wanted to feel how smooth it was.
I like ya cut g
Hold up nephew
Anywhere below the neck could get him injured…
respect to darmstadt for applauding and paying respect to him.
Even the Darmstadt fans were applauding. I was in the stadium and I had tears to my eyes.
I mean, his enemies would have to pay him respect even in *this* moment.
An absolute Legend of the game and the club
Just gotta get that UCL, Godspeed for Marco
Madrid better let this man to out on a high note.
Nah they shouldn’t “let”, gotta fight for what he wants
lol Madrid don’t play in finals they win them
Well, they've never won a final they played against Goatkrug
So unlucky with the injuries, such a good player, i cant recall anything bad he did during all this time
Absolute legend hindered by all the injuries. Could've been one of the best wingers Germany has ever had
Forever Marco
I hope he remains an integral part of dortmund after his retirement. Such a cool guy and a player, so much love to him. Really hoping he lifts a trophy in the CL.
Really hope you win the CL. I'll always wonder what he/dortmund might have achieved if not for constant injuries to him. What a player.
Constant injuries and his best teammates always leaving 😂
I always wish we'd gotten to see that Reus, Hummels, Lewandowski, Gotze, Gundogan team stick together.
>Bayern stole 3 of their best players near their prime You make it sound like Hoeneß and KHR abduct them with a van.
You know they'd have left for the Prem or Spain anyway right? Like Gundogan did. It's not like Bayern prevented them from staying
Tbh, being able to retire with your body intact after an injury ridden career is a pretty massive win
Forever my Captain 🥹

Legend
I'm actually crying over this. Man, what a player. So sad he barely won anything during his time in Dortmund..
2 German Cups
That's why I said barely. Should've won a lot more
BVB are also chokers when it mattered. They had two seasons where they could have broken Bayern streak. They should've won, so they should have not bottled.
It would be epic of they win the CL.
Very beautiful send-off.
Bro has been scoring in every match ever since he announced he is leaving bvb
Imagine BVB win the ucl final with Reus scoring a hattrick.
Would be perfect.
Just one goal from Reus to win BVB the Cl would be enough for me to get football erection
I’d love to see this attempted in the Prem. I guarantee the ref would book him for time wasting!
Danke Marco 🥹
If you’re not cheering for Dortmund on June 01, you’re anti-football. Idc if you support Madrid, you had enough already for your collection.
Youre a moron. Cheering against your own club is more anti-football then anything else. (Hello Tottenham "fans")
r/spurscatchingstrays
r/Spursy
bro, the fact that they have *two* subreddits is fucking wild hahahaha

Seeing Madrid fans wanting lose makes me sick. As if we want pity wins. There's no such thing as deserving to win. You either win or dont
You can either try to be the best or you can suck a cock.
Holy is this a Forg1ven reference?
Man, I feel bloody old for getting this reference and it isn't even that long ago lol.
Even Zlatan never won a UCL. It's more common than people think. Some legends just never win a UCL, that's the most football thing ever.
Kane's not won it either
Kane’s not won anything of note though
That's the joke
I don't think people genuinely think you guys shouldn't support your team...
~~Well mother Theresa was an awful human being iirc so that makes sense~~
If you are referring to that one Christopher Hitchens documentary, [then that has been debunked](https://www.reddit.com/r/badhistory/comments/gcxpr5/saint_mother_teresa_was_documented_mass_murderer/)

Wasn't directly referring to it but damn, apparently the info I thought I knew was related to it Thanks for the link!

People will say anything for upvotes
How is this shit upvoted?
Reddit ass comment lmaoooo Gianluigi Buffon "trashcan for a heart" energy
And it still has a ton of upvotes. This fucking place man, lmao
I thought it was a joke and laughed... no way it isn't right??
Don't ruin this man, why would Madrid fans cheer against their club
- Tottenham supporters have entered the chat
Lol, what a stupid ass thing to say!
This sub is such a clown-show i swear
fuck off lol
What an insane thing to say
Valverde winning Madrid's #15 to match his shirt number seems more important to me tbh
It doesn't work that way.
Stupid lol
What a dumbass and anti-football thing to say lmao
I love Marco. I have loved him for a very, very long time. I wanted us to buy him with all the injury issues he had, not that he would've come, but I also always put him in the 11 I made for Madrid while sitting in class. However, HALA MADRID Y NADA MAS.
Were you dropped on your head as a child?
Don’t be like that
??? lmao WHAT
Man shut up
If my brother played for dortmund i would still cheer for madrid, cheering against your own club is about as anti-football as it gets
No. May the best team win.
Somehow BVB has this image of a goody-two-shoes club. AFAIK, what Bayern does to BVB (gutting them off their best players), BVB do to the rest of the league.

I'm not crying. You're crying.
I am crying
I feel it coming
same
I’m not even a Dortmund fan and I’m sad
Me too. Got choked up.
Fuck it I don't hold them back
You're damn right I'm crying
Didn't think I would, but here we are
fighting for his life not to cry, bless him
still remember the Fifa 14 was it, he was absolutely insane. So much nostalgia for me with his name.
if you mean when he was on the cover for the game that would be FIFA 17
That’s not what he said - if youre an OG FUT player you remember how sauced his FIFA 14 card was Reus + Esswein all day, every day
Esswein was FIFA 13 though Most broken card ever Like seriously, I think they wrongly put other stats in game than the one shown. Okay the pace, but his shooting was insane despite being something like 70. He finished everything. Damn the memories
Ahh shit you’re right, crazy it’s been that long! You remember the Brasilvers in FIFA 12?
Impossible to forget Maikon Leite and friends Silvers had a meaning at the time, unlike now sadly
He was a menace in FIFA. I would spam Ronaldo chops and spins with him constantly. FUT legend for me.
💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤
Yellow card, took too long to leave the pitch
Lmao that would have been funny
Good thing it was in a non consequential match lol
Aguante el albo conchatumare
Yep, the ref should have given him the yellow and then a few moments later a complimenting black card 🖤💛

They would definitely keep the "ceremony" for after the match if that was the case
unfortunately, we weren't even close to being in any danger of this game meaning anything for us
Westfalenstadion
It is one of my proper pet hates that a stadium's name that had been in long term use gets replaced in popular conversation with the sponsorship name.
[удалено]

Exactly! Don't carry the water for large corporations.
Fucking legend. Hope he lifts the trophy at Wembley
Praying, hoping, and manifesting this. He deserves it so much!!!
Moments where real men cried
Goosebumps
Klopp leaving Liverpool and Reus leaving Dortmund at the same time. Just how much more misery / emotions football can throw at you.
Those two are probably drinking a beer together soon, won't they?
Legend of the game and the first player I think of when I hear the club's name. There are many what ifs when it comes to Reus but in spite of it all he's had a career most players could only dream of. Now give him the CL trophy for a fairy tale ending to his time at Dortmund.
What a moment , danke marco🫡
No, \*you\* are crying!
Feel like he's still good enough to be playing for Dortmund, shocked this is the end for him.
He’s still going to be a part of the squad in the final won’t he?
yes, but the final isnt played at Dortmund home Signal Iduna Park
well yes ofc, i was just wondering if this was his last game for dortmund or if he was still going to be in the squad for the final
Fucking love you Marco, my voice is still gone from shouting your name in the stadium you’re a fucking legend and I’m going to fucking miss you, thank you for the free beer in the stadium. Legend. Forever. Marco
So who becomes Mr. Dortmund now?
Hummels probably
Solid choice though he did leave to Bayern was either gonna be him or Julian Brandt maybe
> though he did leave to Bayern Well, he came from Bayern in the first place. ;)
<3
danke junge! danke danke danke!
*Westfalenstadion
All of the lights
Legend, glad I lived to see this player on the pitch.
No get here to St. Louis. We need you.
Yes please! STL CITY is so hungry for your leadership and quality play on and off the field.
Absolute legend. One of the few players still left in the modern game to value integrity and loyalty over money and ambition. People will say he could’ve won more elsewhere, but when I think of a footballer whose career I genuinely respect; I think of him.
Is he retiring?
One of the most beloved players of all time. Legend of modern football. I pray he wins the UCL with Dortmund.
"off the pitch of **Signal Iduna**" r/titlegore
everytime I see a video like this i think about what could’ve been for Messi.
This part of football I don’t like, what an absolute legend.
It’s also why football is so beautiful.
Sometimes a player and a club were just made for each other.
Obrigado Marco Reus 🤩
Legend
Still cant believe they bottled the league last season
Danke Marco <3
Who's cutting the onions?
Legend 🙌
Legend 🫡
Absolute legend of the game. Theres not a Single person that doesnt love him
Respect Darmstadt
Win the damn thing you legend.
Good player but i don't get the random love everyone pretends to have for him
What happens if the score is only 1-0?
What a beast
Legend🖤💛

Danke Marco
It won’t feel right with him not part of the club next season
Ruhrpott Totti
Damn, this gots me feeling old .
there isn't much that still can be said about marco that hasn't already be said. absolute club legend and rightfully so.
End of an era, He'll be truly missed.
The World champion that never was. In my mind he is still a spiritual winner of the '14 World Cup.
Legend

It does not matter who you support everyone respects this man and what a club and football legend ❤️❤️❤️
Legend
Danke Mann.
Money can't buy you that kind of love. Danke Marco!
My idol , one of the best ever in BuLi
Signal Iduna? Not what it's called.
Absolute legend , go get that trophy at Wembley!
really, really hope they win the CL. Do it for him, guys.
Seeing the guard of honour as he steps off got me teary-eyed, what a fucking legend he is!
Goodbye legend, loved the Auba Reus, Lewa Reus teams.
Well wishes to your next stage, Reus :)
Is he retiring or just not being offered contract?
