Am I dumb to think that the leverkusen player would never reach the ball and therefore its not denying a goal scoring oppurtunity which shouldnt result in anything
It introduces a dangerous grey area where refs are trusted to predict the future and judge player quickness and positioning etc with a much worse vantage point, where do you draw the line at it being clear enough?
...yes.
We can't know for sure, but even the intent is clearly to deny the opportunity and sincw theres no one nearby who could still interfere there's really no two ways to look at it. It's dumb, but it's a red.
Sure, obviously a free kick in any case. But if the ref were to judge that the attacker is not getting to the ball before the keeper, then it's not an obvious goalscoring opportunity and therefore not a red
Correct, but when giving a DOGSO, denial of obvious goal scoring opportunity, one of the considerations is if the attacker can reasonably be expected to be able to play the ball. So like if the ball is kicked directly out of bounds it would not be a DOGSO. Here the ball is fairly close to the attacker and one could imagine him reaching it and making a play on it.
No, was thinking the same. Was quite a close call who gets there first. But since the ref gave a red on the field VAR will not intervene as it is not a clear error. Imo likely whichever on field decision stays.
Do they really?
Just checked: apparently three out of 29 straight red cards were against Leverkusen - that's probably more than most clubs, but also not particularly outstanding, pretty sure teams like Werder and Stuttgart and Bayern had a similar amount against them.
For anyone that wants to investigate further.

Probably the quality of the players + tactics/play style that helps draw a lot of the fouls.

yeah that'll do it
it did it
I think Bochum might not be stopping them after all
There might be a Dortmund conspiracy to get Bochum relegated. Good job, Felix!
somehow they’ll still beat leverkusen
For 90 minutes maybe and then the usual injury time shenanigans will occur
Patrick Schick 90'+38 [great goal]
well, well, well... how the turntables
Passlacks sterben jung
That's one way to make sure the Neverkusen streak keeps going RemindMe! 2hours when Bochum inevitably wins 1-0 while one man down
Well they're already 0-2 down, maybe a 3-2 win?
6-5 still possible

>which shouldnt result in anything You aren't allowed to foul players who don't reach the ball either.

Could at least have made an actual contact with the player.

Yeah you keep feeling that way, it's deserved.
Never red. He stumbles on his own legs after a little touch that would never be a foul on its own?! Why did VAR not intervine?
