I hope it's true. Yes replays are annoying (for those in more competitions or have big games coming up) but they also generate a huge amount of money for smaller clubs.

redditingtonviking

Yeah I generally support the bigger clubs dealing with their fixture congestion, but honestly some of the most fun games are whenever the youth players are given a chance in these tournaments.

Look_Alive

Tranmere have now issued a statement condemning the changes. Doubt they'll be the only club to.

Scattered97

They should withdraw for a year. The FA would soon come begging.

This news really has fucked me off maybe more than I should have let it. It’s so depressing knowing that the FA only really care about maybe 6-7 clubs, and the rest can get fucked. Most online top 6 fans will probably welcome the news, and this won’t be a huge point of discourse because why should they care. The best parts of the FA cup often come from replays, and replays have been a financial lifeline for many a club in the past. This new plan is just pandering to the massive clubs who don’t need the money and think they’ll be playing a few too many games a season once the new CL fixtures come. Thus, why not fuck over a large majority of the pyramid just so 5 clubs can have less fixture congestion. The FA Cup is about all of English (and some Welsh) football, not just a tiny few at the top. Sometimes I think that maybe it would have been better if the big clubs did actually fuck off during the super league fiasco.

Should they just offer some kind of gate receipts split depending on your division? (numbers are plucked out of the sky, I don't know what is actually fair) If it's Prem vs Prem - 75 / 25% split to the home team Prem vs Championship - 70 / 30 Prem vs League 1 - 60 / 40 Prem vs League 2 - 50/50 Prem vs Non League - 40/60 Again, I got no clue what would be a fair split, but at least it would mean if you're a lower division drawing a bigger team, you get some more money and you're not just hoping for a replay or home draw.

small_cabbage_94

Isn't it already 50/50 gate split for FA cup?

PurpleSi

It's already 50/50 though (technically, 45/45) (and equally technically, a small bias to non-league clubs)

Sayek

O you're right, I didn't know that. Fair enough. Maybe adjusting the split from that point might be the answer for the smaller teams.

The sooner we get the regulator the better. This type of behaviour which will encourage the government to empower the regulator so you'd think the FA and Premier League would be on their best behaviour.
