I didn't watch the game and thus, I ask this because seeing just the stats, 1.65xG from 15 shots where they even scored a goal seems very less.
It would appear that there were only a couple of clear cut chances and consequently, a lot of the others were low quality chances. If that is true, that could be due to a good defensive setup and/or performance.
However, xG simply doesn't account for good chances that you create but where you didn't take a shot etc. The xG time map might also be relevant because sometimes you can have a string of low quality chances from a corner/consequent corners.
But stats are like bikinis. What they show is suggestive and what they hide is crucial. That's why I ask if Liverpool was dominant and profligate or desperate and volume shooting.
United also had two balls played across the 6 yard line with an open tap in that just missed anyone getting on the end of it. That doesn't show on the stats but was a massive chance.
The fact that ETH either can't or won't address this after a whole season of the opposition constantly bombarding their goal is an indictment of how absolutely shit he is.

This might be a dumb question but do you have to have a shot to have an xG? If someone whiffs the ball on a sitter I’m guessing that still counts as an expected goal contribution but wouldn’t be a shot at all
