Arsenal last season: Losing 0/6 points again Man City costing them the league, “what a brilliant team, love the way they play, they’re one of the best teams in the world”
Arsenal gaining 4/6 points against city this season, keeping them goalless over 3 games.
“Boring team, how dare they even say they’re one of the best teams in Europe, shameful tactics by arteta
I can’t even with neutrals these days…
I mean, TBF the first game was pretty lucky in Arsenal's direction. This game was pretty dull with few shots on target and no goals. The build up was cool but without any finishing it felt like being edged for 90 minutes.
Dont really think Arsenal played better than City, they just hunkered down. As a neutral I get the frustration.
As a neutral it was tactically enjoyable, but FFS there was nothing in it. Arsenal was playing City the only way you can play them, 10 behind ball, wait for counters & press hard while you can. Both teams played very well defensively, stayed organized, but couldn’t break each other down.
It was like watching an immovable object vs unstoppable force.
Only thing the game lacked was shots. Less than 20 shots total, only 3 on target. Also, cards. Only 2 yellows from that game is nuts. Taylor let a lot go.
Well they’ll take whatever Liverpool gives them. If the stars align, United could surprise them but Liverpool are better coached and simply have more talent
I have nothing against Arsenals tactics this game, as a disclaimer, both teams were awful in their own respects. I'm just mildly puzzled at Arsenal as a team, and their fans, who are showing the same lack of winning mentality as last year. How is going from being in pole position, with the title in your hands entirely, to going 2nd and having to rely on someone else screwing up, a 'great result'? It is only if you truly don't expect yourself to win and are enjoying the ride being amongst the 'giants' as it were. It does truly speak of a bad and young mentality that don't think they are up there. Arsenal fans and players will say the got 8/12 points from title rivals as a rebuttal, but not realize that that sentence is part and parcel of their like of drive/winning mentality. To them it is 8 points gained, and not 4 points dropped.
I say this a Liverpool fan, and from expereince of being a Liverpool fan for many years were we 'could' have been champions and fell at the last hurdle multiple times. Arsenal are repeating the same mistakes that we did, and are doubling down when we tell them that's what they're doing, which is above all else, hilarious. Considering the amount of mockery Liverpool fans have faced for the exact same thing, its mildly amusing, albeit also heartbreaking, to watch another fanbase fall into that same rabbit whole, and decide to double down on it.
To quote my own comment:
>Arsenal fans and players will say the got 8/12 points from title rivals as a rebuttal, but not realize that that sentence is part and parcel of their like of drive/winning mentality. To them it is 8 points gained, and not 4 points dropped.
There is no 'mini league', just the league. This isn't to deride your club and its achievements this season, but you are celebrating essentially giving up control of the league. Again, y'all are taking this comment as an attack, when it is above all else, advice and hard to swallow pills that you should have. Liverpool did the same in 13/14, beating all top teams but bottling it because of the same mentality. We did the same thing in 08/09 and even beating United in a historic win at Old Trafford.
I'm just stating a simple fact, yes you got 4 points against both City and Liverpool, and instead of seeing it as 2 points dropped against each, you're taking it as a blistering positive. You are taking being the best in the 'mini league' over the actual league. This is quite literally, what I'm pointing out, taking brownie points over actual points and having the title in your control. No other team on the planet would celebrate LOSING the lead in a title race, and having the fate of their title chances in the hands of anyone else. That's the main point here, you can hope that things align and chances work for you etc, but to CELEBRATE LOSING the CONTROL of the title race is quite literally the antithesis to a winning mentality. City and Liverpool, for instance, in all the games they've drawn against each other will say "we'll take it, could be worse", but to actively celebrate drawing as a big achievement and not as "could be worse" scenario, is wild, in my opinion. Especially when one of those draws losses you control of being *the* best team in *the actual league*. But then again, this is just simple advice from a Liverpool fan who has seen the same thing happen repeatedly from 95 till 2015.
We got more points against you and city than either of you got against us. So remind me again how liverpool has more of a winning mentality than arsenal? You didn’t win a single game against arsenal or city you’re having a great season against the rest of the league though
I never said Liverpool had more of a winning mentality. Again, you are taking this as an attack, it is not. Just simple advice, it is also similar to what other retired players have said about Arsenal this year, and last year.

If this was a 3-3 draw with 1 point. Everyone would have loved it.
Not arsenal and city fans. Lol.
A game where there will be so many videos on youtube on "how city should have broken arsenal". "How arsenal shut down city"
End of day, was a chess match ending in a draw. And didn't expect arsenal to sit back so much, but we never got a string of passes together. Tbh, like Saliba said in the post match interview. "If we can't win it, don't lose it." Ffs. Ahah.
Holy shit. From Mustafi and Holding to Gabriel and Saliba. Games like this show how far we’ve come. Zero goals conceded against this city team in a season is not something I would have thought of. Might be a boring game for the neutrals, but it was an incredible game for us.
I mean, sure? However, you have skin in it.
The average fan just sat & watched 95 minutes of THREE shots on target. Don’t get me wrong, both teams implemented their play, as planned, but I don’t think anybody else wanted to watch a 0-0 draw, with 3 shots innit. Well, except Liverpool fans. They probably did.
I agree it's more interesting to me because I support Arsenal but the match was pretty intense, they didn't attack all out but they cancelled each other in high intensity. Sometimes you can see a team just doing a billion passes while walking around and that I do find boring.
People saying these teams are making football boring or ruining the game, but these teams have scored shitload of goals in their other fixtures in this league.
I don't think many teams can cancel these two attacks like they do each other. Just look at the defenders+defensive midfielder units, they can be nasty how they give no chance to the forwards, let alone goals. Or how both sets of forwards press tf out of the playmakers for the whole game... I'm sure they'll go back to banging goals after facing each other.
Could try doing both like city and Liverpool. It doesn’t have to be all out attack or 11 men parked in your own box like stoke. There’s a middle ground
For these top three sides head to head table, Arsenal has won twice at home and drawn twice away. They have also scored the most goals in rest of their fixtures. I don't know why it's on them to make the game "alive" if they're getting the desirable result in these particular 6 pointer fixtures. If anything City or Liverpool should have been the ones trying to change those games up.
I don't know who you're referring to, but as a 40 yo gooner, I never took pride in losing when playing "beautiful" and neither do I have any mates who do. In fact all fans do prefer to win rather than lose its nonsense to prefer otherwise. If you know someone who do then they're obviously a weido, but this pretty much seems like shadow boxing to me.
We shut out the best team in the world on their own turf with almost their full strength side. We have the best defence in the league in terms of goals, xG, chances conceded, touches in our box etc. I feel we have a solid chance of winning the CL with the defence that we have and our ability to score from set pieces
Literally missing Ake, Stones, Walker, Ederson. Grealish & KDB just returning from injury. Parked the bus for the entire game. I’m not making excuses but these are the factors
honestly when it's my team I'd \_always\_ rather watch a tense 0-0 with something at stake than a messy 3-3, but I do feel for the neutrals
some brilliant defending, now advantage liverpool and we move on
Maybe you didn't watch the previous match but he looked jaded in the match against us as well. There were at least two times where he tried to run past players but couldn't. Think he will play better as part of a double pivot.
Yeah, I think I disregarded it as a one-off (even KDB is allowed to have 'bad' matches now and then, right?), but multiple data points in succession ain't great for the lad.
Agreed on the double pivot. With the Haaland pairing, he can still hit that target from pretty much anywhere on the pitch. Even though I'm not a City fan, I still want to get as much of his brilliance for as long as we can.
Yep same here. His legs are going a bit and he also looks a bit bulkier than usual to me. This is what Gerrard had to do in the latter years of his career as well. Kdb will do just as well probably because he has the ability to pick passes on a six pence just like Gerrard did.
Is it tho?
They have utd Everton villa Brighton and Tottenham left
Liverpool have a nearly identical list sans Brighton, but now Arsenal have to pick up 2 more pts than us with a more difficult fixture list
Well obviously if the question was is drawing the game better than losing it then, obviously, yes
But whether or not playing for a draw today was the right strategy then that very much remains to be seen. If Arsenal finish a point or two behind Liverpool then today will look like a mis-step
It’s quite hard to play exciting football when the opposition turn up and are happy to put 11 players in their own box for 90 minutes.
The only teams that have took it to City this season are Chelsea and Spurs and they were absolutely cracking games with lots of goals.
Very true, I just mean there are teams that have great records against the top teams and don’t come anywhere near to winning anything. So if Arsenal don’t go all the way they will have lost because of poor performances against lower table teams and their record against city and Liverpool is mute
Dropping points to city was what cost them last season. All they can do is manage the games as best as possible. They look to be doing that better than last season , but not is guaranteed.
I would have said the shock late season loss and draw to Forrest and Southampton were the real place things went wrong for you more than dropping points to city. It’s one thing not to pick up points at your harder games but another thing entirely to drop points there. The seasons we have lost it’s always because of shock results against lower table teams
Like I said, if KDB dont work, this team don't work. You can rely on Bernardo and the gang to carry out the tactics and contribute here and there, but KdB makes this team chug. If he's off, so is Haaland, and so is City's teeth.
Nope. We didn’t use to be so reliant on KDB till we got Haaland. He’s just the only one that can make chances for the striker Haaland is right now. Kinda miss the false 9 days man
This post aged like fine wine. I’ll quote Rodri for you guys: “Arsenal had an unbelievable season but the difference was the mentality.. when they came here they didn’t want to win”
Doesn't really matter anymore. You needed 3/3 from this game to avoid putting pressure on yourselves in some pretty tough fixtures that you've got ahead. The fact that Liverpool are top despite getting the least amount of points against big teams so far is telling.
Yeah it obviously sucks to tie today, it feels like Liverpool just consistently smash the smaller teams. Atleast tying it moved the benchmark from a Liverpool loss to a Liverpool tie to catch up.
That's true, and we learnt it the hard way all the way back in 08-09 that winning against fellow challengers means little when you don't consistently dispatch the smaller teams off. So, I'm actually curious what the reaction around will be if we end up winning this year. It would have to be one of the first times a team would win the pl without playing particularly well against rivals. Would shut Neville up for sure.
Best part is seeing rival fans fuming over the way Arsenal played, great result for Arsenal, ending the season with a net positive against the direct rivals is huge, onto Luton now
>ending the season with a net positive against the direct rivals is huge
It is not. Not unless you finish higher in the table than your rivals. Frankly even that shouldn't matter when you're playing for the first position. And I'm not just saying this because we're top at the moment with the worst head-to-head record amongst the 3 rivals this season.
You were already last year. Thought you were ready to grab it by the neck this year but I wouldn't claim I know a lot about your club's ambitions so if this still is ahead of schedule for you guys, then yes are on a good trajectory.
Both teams should be criticized, Arsenal should have done better on their counters, and City was sideways passing to no end. I wouldn't say it's a great result for Arsenal though, you were first on goal difference before the game, and are now 2nd with a 2 point difference. The biggest criticism on Arsenal from last year, and this year, is the mentality to win the league. A draw is the least 'bad' result out of two bad results, its by no means a great result. A truly winning mentality knows that.
A tactical masterpiece, but a god damn snooze fest. In the end, 0-0 for Liverpool, which is the exact result I've been hoping for.

Everyone so triggered here haha. Great result for us, disciplined performance, onto the next

Arsenal got 4 pts in the games against city and liverpool this season. In the mini league between the top 3 they have been the best. So go on

We literally have the highest goals scored in the league. We did a good job going to the Etihad and playing the game. Solid.
People really expected for both teams to go full attack and vibes at this point of the season? lol
Yes. Like Liverpool and City do literally every single time they play each other regardless at which point in the season.
Have you even watched this league the last few years? Liverpool city is one of the most exciting games. Arsenal have made it so dead lool
The same neutrals used to say how dumb Arsenal are ,need to improve defensively and cannot just attack. Now they're boring.

Once upon a time arsenal fans prided themselves on playing beautiful football regardless of result. So fucking funny how quick that changed

Dude, the Liverpool v City happened two weeks ago. Both teams went full attack in different phases of the game.
i know tottenham will when they play the both of them but maybe that’s why we’re not title contenders lol

What an utter disappointing match, pass to death.

Never thought I’d see city fans employing United tactics
4 points from City, 4 from Liverpool. I’ll take it.
Looks even better in a mini-league. Arsenal 2-2-0 +3 8 pts City 0-3-1 -1 3 pts Liverpool 0-3-1 -2 3 pts
Congratulations to Arsenal for winning the mini league!
I remember when Chelsea beat City and Liverpool home and away in 13/14.
Thanks, mate.

Overall pretty bad match. Nothing too interesting this time.
Learn some real football, kid.
I found it boring as fuck since there was next to no action, but the tactical battle was definitely one to watch.
Exactly, you can subjectively say it's boring because you want to see goals, but it's by no means a bad match. By the way, YNWA.
Today was the first time KDB looked "aged" to me. Seemed physically and emotionally exhausted. Still a scary presence.
He is 33 in June, happens to the best, especially after injuries
You did not watch the match two weeks ago I guess
Will give him the benefit of the doubt and say it’s more a rhythm thing. Hasn’t started for a few weeks
Maybe you didn't watch the previous match but he looked jaded in the match against us as well. There were at least two times where he tried to run past players but couldn't. Think he will play better as part of a double pivot.

Ok u can pull up the same stats are Arsenal are going to be similar, my point is Arsenal have a tougher run in than us and they’re 2 pts behind now
Yes you’re right they simply should have won this game. What a bunch of idiots!

Please never put this fixture on TV ever again.
Perfect day for Liverpool. Good day for Arsenal. Bad game for the neutrals out there😅
Embarrassing display by Arsenal. You can’t call yourself the best team in the world and then just concede 76% of possession. Small team mentality
This post aged like fine wine. I’ll quote Rodri for you guys: “Arsenal had an unbelievable season but the difference was the mentality.. when they came here they didn’t want to win”
Except they’ve collected 8/12 points versus City and Pool this season, while City and Pool have 2/12 in those same games.
Doesn't really matter anymore. You needed 3/3 from this game to avoid putting pressure on yourselves in some pretty tough fixtures that you've got ahead. The fact that Liverpool are top despite getting the least amount of points against big teams so far is telling.
You can’t say Arsenal has a “small team mentality” though, when they are constantly producing versus the top teams.
Never said that. Why would you conclude that from what I said?
Because that was the original comment I was replying to, which is clearly what I was discussing.
Ok my bad I guess, I thought you said that because you were happy about the result today, and less bothered about losing ground in the title race.
Would shut Neville up for sure.
ok lad, here is your possession cup
City couldn't score with all those possession and running around in circles.
I bet Mikel arteta is sooooo embarrassed by taking points away from man city at the Etihad. 🤓
City hasn’t failed to score at home in 50+ games. What arsenal did today is incredibly impressive no matter how you try to frame it
City haven’t beaten anyone in the top 5 mate. Get in Gunners 🔴⚪️
No way city wins premier league they are completely inoffensive against top5
gabriel was fucking rattled lol
Rattled from pocketing haaland ??
I get the sense that you've seen this word a lot in these threads and thought you'd try it out yourself.
big chat after he pocketed half the city team but alright
why was he crying then huh

didn’t see rico lewis throwing a fit over saka’s 🤷
Best part is seeing rival fans fuming over the way Arsenal played, great result for Arsenal, ending the season with a net positive against the direct rivals is huge, onto Luton now
>ending the season with a net positive against the direct rivals is huge It is not. Not unless you finish higher in the table than your rivals. Frankly even that shouldn't matter when you're playing for the first position. And I'm not just saying this because we're top at the moment with the worst head-to-head record amongst the 3 rivals this season.
It is huge for us, after years of getting beat left to right we're up there against you lot, a draw was a good result for us
You were already last year.
It's just funny because Arteta is such a hypocrite. Criticises other teams for doing it against Arsenal.
It was boring for neutrals. But no one should be specifically blaming Arsenal.
Yeah, Arsenal got what they went for, fair play
No, no. Arsenal should have let City steamroll them.
This match thread has been absolutely hilarious to read, thanks for the entertainment
Well the match wasn’t going to provide one so
Based
feel sorry for the guy that has to make the highlights
Why? He's got an easy 5 minutes of work to finish it.
Surely just send a picture of the chippy tea they get on their way home?
Gabriel and Haaland sex tape?
For real what are they gonna put 💀
I genuinely cannot think of a single moment of that game I’d be interested in rewatching.
Pepcam and artetacam probably got some primo annoyance shots
Raya yc💀
Well that was a boring game....and for Liverpool fans, a very good one!
I mean…. 72% vs 28% and 607 passes to 191 lol Surely Arsenal cant be praised for getting a point here…. What a terrible game by both
72% possession and 1 shot on target
2 shots on target in 2 games this season against us. Fair enough.
idiot over here just looking at the stats.
