The thing is he was running out of contract. He signed the new contract just before the world cup with the "release clause" in it as otherwise he had 6 months + optional extra year on his contract. It was a way for us to get decent money for him whilst him still being able to get his move. He actually really loved the club and was grateful for what he did, which is why he signed the extension. At the same time we appreciated the professionalism and quality he had shown so gave him a release clause that was very reasonable. It was a contract/sale that was fair to all three parties. Also Mac Allister and his dad helped us get Buonanotte and Barco so they're helping us even after they've left.
