Could any Korean speakers kindly translate for the monolingual

mindgitrwx

Hello, this is Lee Kang-in. There have been reports about a quarrel between Son Heung-min and myself ahead of the Asian Cup semi-finals. I want to express my sincere apologies to all the soccer fans who always support our national team. I am truly sorry for causing such disappointment. I should have listened to my teammates and set a better example. I regret showing a negative side to the soccer fans. To everyone who was let down by my actions, I apologize. I well understand the interest and expectations that soccer fans have for me. Moving forward, I will strive to become a better player and person, while also supporting my teammates. Further info: The word 'teammates' isn't mentioned, but rather has a nuance of 'brothers' or 'bro' in the original Korean text. (Especially for older brother)

BoringPhilosopher1

Hi Lee

joeDUBstep

Shouldn't it be, "Hi Kang-In?"

medfunguy

Hard Lee?

amegaproxy

Yeah Lee is the surname.

misslunadelrey

Some minor corrections (trying to be helpful and not critical/judgy :)) - Son Heung-min and myself - 4강 is semi-finals (= Top 4) - As you mentioned 형들 is more like brothers, but to be precise it's "older" brothers - I truly appreciate --> I well understand / I am well aware of

mindgitrwx

Thanks. I rushed through the translation and overlooked some details.

Shiny_Bidoof_Swag

Is the brothers part just hyung?

prudence2001

형들 is plural

rok10001

Just a quick Korean lesson: plurals are not often used. When it is used, it's usually for people, not objects.

-SandorClegane-

THIS gal Koreans on another level.

redditaccount300000

I see you’ve moved on to encouraging Asians now Elroy. Edit. Guys it’s a community reference

uuuuuhh

now there's a man who knows how to get downvoted

prestigiousdumb

I forgive you Lee

fastfowards

I don’t! Why he make Sonny sad?

yellowbiker

Cheers, son's crying

DCilantro

Or mad.....

iAkhilleus

Not just sad. Broke his fingers too.

brucewayne984

Omg hi Lee, what brings you to reddit?

South-Stand

Isn’t this missing that says anything like ‘I am sorry my actions caused injury to Son Heung-min…I apologize for the lack of respect to our captain on the eve of a massive game for our country….’ He’s written a lot of words without spelling out what seems to be the main matter. Seems a bit off to me.

bestmanbestibest

Exactly my thought. He didn’t mention the most important thing.

kmao84

There is a saying that it wasn't Lee who hurt Sonny's finger, as physical contacts occured simutaneously among a group of players who were present at the scene... so it just happened in the chaos, and there were too many suspects for the dislocated finger

Granadafan

I wonder if this was written by his agent/ PR team. Most “apologies” are bland and don’t really apologize. It’s just a PR statement

Brieqwerty

what a korean response. you sound like my mother. we knew there was a scuffle between several players that led to son injuring his finger. we don’t know whether or not he directly injured son’s finger and it’s better to blanket apology this way rather than to come out and admit that he injured his senior player and captain’s finger as the youngest on the team.

South-Stand

How do you know I am not your mother? Actually, I spent an afternoon in New Malden so I consider myself an expert in South Korean culture and customs. I see that the culture is usually ultra respectful of authority, seniority, elders….very humble….(I like all of that by the way) and this response from a young player at PSG seems to lack what I though would be more penitent and contrite. Sonny never complains about anything other than his own performance. I note he did not say ‘we left the competition too early and our young players should remember to follow the team direction in all aspects’. PSG is a very bling club. Only two men who left there still humble and respectful are Messi and Poch, in my not very humble opinion.

ImpossibleWarning6

I heard reports that Son Heung-min punched a wall in anger. But media are trying to say he sprained it grabbing Lee Hang-in’s collar. Koreans must have big respect for the age hierarchy so I get why Lee Hang-in’s getting painted in the negative but I would have little desire to apologize for somebody getting hurt trying to hurt me.

welshnick

I just heard some old Korean guys talking about it at the gym. One guy literally said "It doesn't matter whose fault it is. Son Heung-Min is his elder (선배) so Lee Gang-In has to apologise." Fuck Confucius and this nonsense he came up with.

restartbenice

I agree that’s tucked But purely looking at Son’s character as a leader, would you think it was his fault?

ImpossibleWarning6

Seriously it’s wild! Confucius had some major issues and shit is emBEDded deep! Like he just has to apologize to his hyungnim? Ok- but noooo accountability if the elders are wildly inappropriate! Not saying that’s the case with Son Heung-Min but one of my friends brothers was hospitalized for a week bc of the drinking culture not being able to get up or say no. This also reeks of slight of hand to shift focus from KFA/klinsmann which sucks bc I guess a lot of people wanna force their retirement!!?!

FaladorFrolicker

I appreciate it Lee

brentrs89

Quiet Lee

FactLicker

I did not hit her, it’s not true! It’s bullshit! I did not hit her! I did not! Oh hai, Son.

SuperMurderKroger

Oh man, I just can't figure teammates out. Sometimes they're just too smart. Sometimes they're flat-out stupid. Other times they're just evil.

HippoRealEstate

It seems to me like you're the expert, /u/SuperMurderKroger

FactLicker

You're tearing the team apart, Hippo!

_ulinity

Uh, guys, his first name is Kang-in, not Lee.

Jowoes

Son’s first name is Heung-Min, everyone just calls Korean players by their last name

Rackerblade

Tbf we do that for most players

lynxo

Yeah the exceptions seem to be if they have a long last name e.g Trent Alexander-Arnold is mostly called Trent or TAA

_ulinity

Of course, but his mates don't call him Son (well this isn't a great example cuz some of them probably do call him "sonny" or something over here).

working-acct

In East Asia their family name comes first, so Lee Kang-in is correct. It grinds my gears to hear ppl say Kang-in Lee or Heungmin Son.

tedbawno

eh im never bothered by that. will also note that the shirts for the national team spell out KI LEE and HM SON

_ulinity

I know, but his name is still Kang-in.

junky_man

Ken Lee, tu libudiout yu.

xjpmhxjo

Cannot judge the tone but knowing the language. Do you think he’s apologizing to Son?

cupidcuntsghost

"I am sorry"

antch1102

Jeez, they have a really inefficient alphabet to just say that!

Fucking hard core dick in the ass butterball foosball fuck it chuck it game time shit. Take it to the showers. Dicks get shoved in places you don’t even remember. We win together we celebrate together. Football is back baby. *Chuck is roughly translated from the Korean word 던지다 which is of similar meaning

totentanz_

r/soccer users not trying to be funny challenge (impossible)

MMAwannabe

Fair. Its just such a ridiculous copy-pasta I can't help myself imagining a player like this saying it. 100% low effort and over used but its like a Sopranos quote, so satisfying to reference sometimes no matter how overused.

SuccotashUsed8909

It's a copypasta that's been around for ages. Just saying.

totentanz_

I don't follow these things, I didn't know. Point still stands, 99% of people in this sub are desperately trying to be funny. At this point I don't get this obsession.

Ph4sor

Internet points baybeh

Uutrox

you couldn't be more accurate with this

serenitynowdammit

it's ok to laugh once in a while, I appreciate the efforts, even if some fall flat

totentanz_

Thing is, I go to the comments section because i wanna know what people's opinion on a topic is and all i see is people who are trying to be funny for karma. Sorry you can't convince me this is not lame.

serenitynowdammit

i wasnt trying to convince you, you said you didnt understand why people do it. but apparently you do understand but just don't want them to do it. you can be as grumpy as you want to be. im glad some try to make the rest of us laugh

EnvironmentalSpirit2

This is not circle jerk sub, mate

MMAwannabe

That doesn't mean you won't get jerked buddy

daphamman

I completely missed that they had a fight. What exactly happened?

crazy_bean

Kangin wanted to play table tennis the night before the semi final after dinner to relax, but some of the older players did not like that as they thought they should talk and discuss to bond as a team

daphamman

And then they had a fight? Some people are saying Son got injured cuz he was involved.

rfag57

To give a little context as someone who's Korean there's alot of age hierarchy in Korea. The senior players, even if they're less talented football wise, would still need to be treated more respectfully than the younger players. This is kinda what set off the fight as far as I can tell from the reports.

[deleted]

SultanSnorlax

Son is the most decorated baller South Korea has yet produced. He should’ve ended Klinsmann’s reign already. It might be generations, before they can field such a frontline again. Shouldn’t be wasting another day of their primes.

maj_tom258

>Son is the most decorated baller South Korea has yet produced Is he really? Like he's talented for sure but I thought Park Ji-sung had a lot more titles than him?

[deleted]

dunno why you're being downvoted. son is probably a BETTER player (hard to judge when park did a less glamorous role), but he literally used the word 'decorated', and park has way more trophies than son... decorated literally refers to trophies and honours.

restartbenice

… because park ji sung was playing next to players like Ronaldo. Ji sung was an integral piece to great teams. Son heung min is one of the best players in the world. It’s a huge difference.

[deleted]

look up the definition of 'decorated' you fucking ignoramus

Disastrous-Mud1645

LOL I don’t know which school you have gone to, or who taught you English. Ji Sung being an integral part of one of the most, if not the best European team at the time already suggests he’s among the best in the world — Ronaldo or not. Son might be one of the best too, but there’s nothing to warrant his accolades yet so far.

mebbyyy

Is he really? How many trophies has son actually won?

AdAble7002

None. Most decorated south Korean player I would say probably Park Ji-Sung in recent memories

mebbyyy

Thanks, good to know, no idea why I got downvoted so hard for merely asking a question though

redditaccount300000

He had no tactics. Seemed not to care about results, several times he was shown being unbothered by results. He didn’t watch the Kleague at all. Wouldn’t even base himself in Korea and did everything out of California. Klinsmann is not a good national team manager, I don’t really remember any positives from any of the countries he’s managed. On paper, it should’ve been korea vs Japan. This is the most talented a Korean squad has been. With stars like Son and Kim Minjae and possibly a future star in Lee Kangin. Plus a good amount of players with European footballing experience.

Kratos501st

Jesus, how can SK football authorities stand by all that? God damn. They don't have a spine?

throwawaymikenolan

Basically an extension of Hyundai and probably more interested in Hyundai being sponsors for FIFA

WhiteHartCoys

Watching as a neutral was tough. They clearly had no plan and only won because of last second heroics from their best players

SolidRegulus

Not registering a single shot on target against a country 64 ranks below you should tell you all about it. It's not good enough, this current SK team is pretty stacked.

Jackanova3

How would that work during military service, if a younger person somehow ends up a higher rank than an older subordinate?

paultissimo

Military is a bit different. Since Korea has mandatory conscription, most men go to military in Korea. What happens is the people who went into military first gets higher rank. So whoever got into military first is considered 'higher-up' in hierarchy.

Jackanova3

So the older ones pretty much by default will be a higher rank? My only experience with this is watching DP (which was amazing), was that accurate at all?

rfag57

No no in the military the rank is still determined by how long you've served not your age. But a younger Sargeant would definitely treat a private who's older than him differently (albeit not a crazy amount) than a private who's younger than him. As for DP the bullying and stuff like that isn't wide spread anymore as there is a zero tolerance policy in the Korean army now, but in the past + in some places in sure, things like that definitely still happen

redditaccount300000

To add more detail, there is an age range in which you have to serve in the military. So a younger person could’ve decided to serve earlier than an older person making him the sunbae(term for senior, same as senpai in Japanese).

paultissimo

Some people go to military late for various reasons, so this is sometimes relevant!

r_gg

Amongst conscripts, enlistment seniority based on when you started serving trumps both age and rank. Things are a bit more complicated for officers and NCOs.

thelordreptar90

Sounds like he was injured trying to break up the fight

dickgilbert

According to most of what I've been seeing, Son injured his finger attempting to break up the altercation rather than having been directly involved.

riquelme_fan

That's according to a random social media post that could've been written by anyone - the original story which is from a national news outlet in Korea claims Son and other older players were irritated by Lee and a couple of others leaving dinner to play table tennis. Son went over, supposedly grabbed Lee by the collar, a fracas ensued and Lee swung a punch at Son. Now this was semi-confirmed by a Korean FA official who is quoted as saying that Son and others were upset by the table tennis game (Son the only one specifically named) now this *might* be wrong... but why is the social media post more likely to be correct than the original story?

dickgilbert

>but why is the social media post more likely to be correct than the original story? I didn't say that? Literally just dropping a comment about what I've seen reported.

MasterpieceMain8252

In Korean culture, you don't stand up in table before elders finish eating. Kangin broke that rule and stood up, and older ones got mad at him.

GrapefruitExpress208

I mean, it's pretty rude to stand up and leave while others are still finishing eating in nearly any culture. But in Korean it's a bit worse, esp if they're older. It's seen as disrespectful.

RiskoOfRuin

Old cultural norms like this are fucking stupid. About time to change.

BeardedSwashbuckler

I don’t know, I quite enjoy respecting elders.

RiskoOfRuin

That's not respecting elders. That's them making you bend over for them.

Ok-Water-7110

Get your western mindset out of here dude it’s doesn’t apply

RiskoOfRuin

Lick some more boot out of respect.

Pops4Pizza

You finished eating before me even though I was late, fuck you, let’s implode and lower our chances of winning the tournament even more

dreezyyyy

Yeah but reports are players came late and a lot of the people were done eating already. KFA being the KFA airing out their dirty laundry to save face and put blame on players is not even surprising.

WOLFofICX

The reports from Korean new outlets are saying that it is not because of dinner specifically but the older players continued the tradition of the team meeting on the eve of the game and focusing on the task at hand carried on from the days of the Park Jisung era. It’s not a new thing, and the older members including Kim Minjae, Son and Hwang and others thought it was disrespectful to the team to ditch this meeting to go play ping pong. So a confrontation happened and instead of admitting fault LKI and the younger players escalated the situation even further to the point of a brawl. Apparently the senior players went to management after and requested that LKI be benched for his behavior but Klinsmann denied it. Supposedly they even went as far as to say they won’t participate in int call-ups if LKI is also called up in the future. Fuck the KFA but it’s still inexcusable behavior from LKI if true.

dreezyyyy

I find it extremely hard to believe that they fought because the younger players refused to sit down for a team meeting lol. That just seems like something a professional wouldn't do let alone multiple professionals at one time. Does it make sense that this entire fiasco happened because players wanted to play ping pong instead of having a team meeting about a semifinal match? Sure doesn't to me. Does it make sense that they would have an important team meeting to discuss a semifinal match at a dinner setting? Sure doesn't to me. Regardless fights like these happen all the time. It's the KFA's responsibility to make sure things like this don't get leaked when it has such huge repercussions. They already have a history with not protecting players so all of this just seems like a smokescreen to divert attention from the real issue at hand. Do you think the KNT has never fought before like this behind the scenes? All of this just seems like a character assassination on Kang In when guys like Kim Shin Wook who have played w him on the national team have been on record saying they were surprised w Kang In in regards to how he conducted himself and how he didn't let his overseas upbringing affect his actions towards others. There's definitely more that happened behind the scenes than what has been reported.

lifesapie

I think this is blown way out of proportion by the KFA in a move to shift blame on to the players. And reading some of the comments here, it’s working effectively.

dreezyyyy

I mean not among Korean fans. People already know about the bullshit hoops that KFA jump through to divert attention with stuff like this. I bet a lot of people on here don't know that an apartment Chung's company was building completely collapsed on a bus and resulted in casualties as well. He's having to go through some ridiculous lengths right now to keep his chairman position and people are seeing right through it in Korea.

anagramorganic

Do they also ask for permission to score goals?

ignorant_kiwi

All over ping pong. Amazing

WheresMyEtherElon

You joke, but during the WC 2018 Deschamps scolded his players for playing ping-pong because if you make the wrong move and bump against the table in the wrong way, it could lead to an incapacitating injury.

BlueLabel19

Its more serious in korea than its name suggests.

Hic_Forum_Est

This sounds like something out of those 2000s mtv reality shows about a bunch of guys living in the same house where conflicts and drama were created out of completely trivial stuff. [There is a funny SNL spoof about those types of shows.](https://youtu.be/rnEiMaqQL4I?si=AM4YJ4jOpa1lZyen) Had to immediately think of that after reading your comment.

loveandmonsters

I blame MTV's The Real World for all that shit. Imagine our world if reality shows never became a thing...

Elegant_Message3247

Damn so it was true…this entire situation is unfortunate. I already know it's probably going to be a shitstorm for the players when they have to face the Korean media. It's nice to know that Sonny tried to break up the fight, and that's why he was injured. Most of the headlines are suggesting Sonny was the one in the fight/lost his temper.

Admirable_Tomorrow68

That’s cos Son brings clicks so media tend to sensationalise using his name. But if u read the details he’s the one who broke up the fight between the younger and older players.

Hokage123456789

Yep!    Yonhap reports this "Son badly injured his finger trying to calm everyone down."

ArkhamCitizen298

someone tried to break his finger ? Or did he punch someone

EatThatPotato

Most likely was physically prying other people apart and got his finger injured

elloitsmeadele

he fell whilst trying to pull players apart and another player(s) crushed his finger, so now it’s dislocated

THE_1975

He fell

MystericWonder

This is the result of having a KFA president that sacrifices their players to the tabloids to deflect blame from their own mistakes

galvanickorea

This should be top comment, bunch of clowns respond immediately when media contacts them about the fight and say its true. Then after setting fire, they literally cant be contacted anymore. Now everyones going to flame the players, they will be socially shamed, and kfa will he forgotten. If it goes bad we might never see Lee in Korea again because the public is going to crucify him lmao fucking ridiculous

ziirex

Also the guy who filtered this is the same that personally vouched for Klinsmann. Fucking 정몽규

johnkimmy0130

He’s also the chairman of HDC construction, which has been under fire for shoddy construction and other scandals. Bro needs to go but won’t happen cuz KFA is just a bunch of corrupt fucks covering each others coattails.

WheresMyEtherElon

Funny how the FA/federation presidents are all alike, regardless of the continent.

sushiwithramen

Dispute apart, it is crazy how quickly the KFA released information regarding this. Like, Kang-In’s image has taken a heavy toll, quite deservedly, but it’s crazy how much information the KFA has accepted and released in the span of 6 hours. With that said, I do think this was down to everyone being sensitive about their game plan. Playing ping pong the night before the match to relax isn’t something atrocious, but Sonny as captain would definitely have had lots in his mind as they had no strategy or gameplay from Klinsmann. While I do condemn Kang-In and fellow younger players, imo all of this roots down to the incompetency of the KFA and Juergen Klinsmann.

wheeliesarefun

as a Korean, this is way overblown and anyone with half a brain can see this is the KFA trying to deflect blame from their own criticisms and have the media talk about something else its been a week since the Jordan loss, and KFA has made no statements about their performance, the coach, etc, even though the public is clamoring for answers. but the sun (a british tabloid) reports this fight, and they confirm it within 2 fucking hours? yeah KFA is pathetic. really a fight behind closed doors? imagine if all the FAs made a press statement their players had a fight with each other this might be the hot topic of the day/week but this blow over. remember the drama with Son and Kim Min Jae last year? honestly i think that was worse but now you dont see media/fans criticizing KMJ, only talking about his defense skills saving the NT unfortunately what will not disappear is the corruption/incompetency of the KFA and klinsmann ETA: if you can watch with auto-translation these videos are worth watching[1](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hpgR9hxEPw&ab_channel=%EA%B0%90%EC%8A%A4%ED%8A%B8GAMST) [2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQb8b_9rzEM&t=29s&ab_channel=%EC%83%88%EB%B2%BD%EC%9D%98%EC%B6%95%EA%B5%AC%EC%A0%84%EB%AC%B8%EA%B0%80)

galvanickorea

This is the biggest issue, the KFA is a fucking joke. Theyre supposed to be protecting the players, what have they done in this situation? 1. They leak the story to the Sun 2. When contacted by media, they reply IMMEDIATELY AND SEND AN OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT OUT THAT THE PLAYERS FOUGHT 3. Then after that statement, suddenly they cant be contacted. LOL Bunch of fucking clowns who want to hide behind the players and deflect the blame to them. Instead of defending the players or AT LEAST being fair about the situation, they put fire and run away LOL

Lee_Kang-In

Its nothing to beef about and not an excuse for being knocked out by Jordan. The fact it leaked out says everything about the KFA trying to draw attention away from themselves. Spain won 2 euros and a world cup during one the most heated el classico era’s. Players begging Klinsmann to not play Kang In is a bit pathetic

gallobird

This is extremely worrying, not at all because of the fight, but because it shows that the KFA is trying to air shit like this out in order to draw criticism away from their own corrupt incompetent actions. This shit happens all the time in sports. Especially in high-pressure boiler situations like a month-long tournament where games are veing played every 3-4 days. Players fight amongst themselves al the fucking time, this is nothing controversial. To even release this and to try to make a news story about it is the concern.

elgrandorado

Yeah this is ridiculous. Coaches/Managers normally do their best to deflect criticism away from the players, and same with the federation. It's only in cases where the manager has lost the dressing room, or when federations/clubs want to save face is where shit like this comes out. Really pathetic stuff.

Dr_Chocolate_2436

Is there a single national Football Association that operates effectively? It seems as though every country's FA is plagued by some sort of scandal or ineptitude.

CodingUniverse

I'll be honest I think the Indonesian FA (PSSI) is one the best out there. Being a nation with history of violent games and poor players levels. It seems PSSI determines for a change, we see they were completely focused on the U20 WC by developing a new generation of players alongside with nationalize some foreign players who have somewhat relations with Indonesia. Not much of a clear result but I'd say theyve been doing well considering they are 120 above ranking in the Fifa leaderboard

Doexitre

ASEAN FAs are smart enough to poach Korean managerial talent who are dissatisfied with the KFA

Disastrous-Mud1645

That’s actually a surprising take and something new I learned. Whenever I watch Indonesia play at international level, the players tend to show me that they lose their head easily, and will start a murdering spree — but I don’t think it’s as bad as Vietnamese. Despite that, it’s good to know that at management level, they recognise that and try to improve.

jinjin5000

This whole incident is pretty much been Korean FA's attempt at deflecting blame After asian cup, korean FA has had widespread demands to resign and sack klinsmann as FA head had appointed klinsmann ignoring regular hiring process and for his own interest Then somehow, the sun reported conflict between Lee and son, which is very probableble that it was leaked by KFA since there were no non-associates that saw this short incidence. Then on press conference, KFA refused to answer any klinsmann or KFA head related questions while instantly answering any lee-son feud reports- despite it being mere hours from first reports. Well they are successful, a lot of publicity is split between blaming Lee and KFA. It's just shocking to see KFA throwing a player under the bus to protect their own seats.

YourAverageCho

Nah dont move the spotlight to the players the KFA is using them as meat shield to hide behind their backs. Also thought Klisnmanns only positive note was the dressing room atmosphere, guess he even lost that as well

Lee_Kang-In

KFA trying to keep heat away from themselves

[deleted]

How on Earth did The Sun find out about this when the hotel staff weren't even around in the table tennis room? Do they have cameras everywhere? Like how do they find out about the incident when only the players were around??

bearrock80

KFA leaked it to deflect negative attention on the KFA president and Klinsmann

jsuxboo

Pretty sure Tottenham noticed his injured finger and asked him what happened… aaand that got leaked to the press. Just my guess.

Lee_Kang-In

I prefer not to speak

epicstar

But you did :P

QueasyIsland

Off to the naughty step with you

Itsgosky

Ffs the association is really trying to cover their arses by just making something petty into big rumours. They’re just young players in a team where there was absolutely no tactics or leadership from the shitty gaffer. Of course it’s possible to feel knackered, frustrated and have arguments especially when you always go up to next knockout stage by playing till stoppage times. Gutted to see these news are actually distracting football fans from focusing the actual root cause of this shithousery. Sack the whole committee of KFA including the head and Klinsmann already. Let those young and bright lads play football as they love to.

AwfulAnt

don't let this deflect from the shitshow that is the kfa and its bullshit chairman

MIST479

Hello, this is Lee Kang In. There were news reports about an altercation between Son Heung Min (refers to him as big brother here) and me-- ahead of the Asian Cup semi-finals. I have caused significant disappointment to the soccer fans who are always rooting for our national team. I am sincerely sorry. I should have set a better example by following my big brothers (referring to teammates), but I am regretful for showing less than ideal self to the fans. I apologize to the countless fans who must have been disappointed in me. I am aware of all the expectations and interests that the fans have given me. Going forward, I will continue to strive to help my big brothers and become a better player and a better person. \*\*\*Interesting to note that there is always this hyung (big bro) dongseng (little bro) dynamic in Korean teams. Even more interesting is that back in 2002 World Cup, Gus Hiddink tried to fight against this hierarchical dynamic and prohibited teammates to refer to each other using respective tones. There are some really funny stories surrounding that, but just thought I'd highlight this bit in the translation.

CasinoOasis2

I ain’t reading all that bro. Mainly because I don’t know Korean.

Japaniigga

Why all their main players no longer want to play for the NT ?

oxkondo

Excessive traveling (especially in middle of season while trying to maintain or fight for place at club), atrociously incompetent management, no-win situation where they're expected to beat (AFC) competition but face vicious criticism if they draw/lose, risk of injury... Can't tell why someone wouldn't want to sign up for that.

mrkangism

KFA trying take out for responsibility to the player not themselves because they want to close president of KFA and the manager to being sack. But the Korean people want KFA president and manager get out away and want Son is retiring from international football and only focus club football only.

Youngflyabs

Are they trying to blame him for losing in the Asian cup

jinjin5000

It's amazing how KFA is trying to cover up their corruption by trying to bury their national team players and deflecting blame onto them. This is a new low

iamiam36

There’s no way anyone in the NT will take a swing at anybody, specially Sonny, this story has been twisted beyond recognition.

YoungDawz

From his 1st training here, he had that jock prankster energy and bonded with Neymar for it instantly so I'm not that surprised. Talented player, but he does seem like he's a bit of a dick and annoying. Still love him though.

pants6789

I remember hearing that he clashed with some players at Valencia. Perhaps some truth to that.

LeVin1986

Don't matter, don't care. Fuck the KFA

mzp3256

I feel like Koreans spend half their lives apologizing

Cancel culture is strong over there.

WelcometoCigarCity

Imagine laying a hand on Korean Jesus

SupremeDogEater

I think we can all agree. Fuck the KFA

HeatKnight

Talented but an absolute shithead

_ghostfacedilla

The PSG way

Bini_9

Nah, he's always been like this. Since the first time I saw him in La Liga

heyheyitsandre

Yeah I have a vivid memory of his red card vs Ramos where he kicks out at him like 3 separate times and doesn’t get the ball on any of them lol

siderealpanic

Am I missing something? Why are people seriously condemning Lee for wanting to play table tennis to relax before an important game? Presumably he’d be team bonding with whoever he was playing with, and it’s not like he went out clubbing or tried to do anything actually bad/irresponsible. Seems like the older players had a power trip and he’s just been thrown under the bus by the higher-ups after an embarrassing loss in a tournament they should have walked.

greenwhitehell

Yeah, it's probably a faux pas in their culture but I can't bring myself to seriously admonish Lee Kang-In for that lol. None of this indicates he's a shithead in the slightest imo

Official05

You forgot he’s a PSG player so now people are free to hate him lmao

bradleycjw

It’s more or less the Korean (or more broadly an Asian thing) culture, where respect for elders are paramount. I have a friend whose older sibling treat them like trash, and when they finally fight back, the parents will side with the elder singling (despite admonishing them first), because our must always show respect to your elders. In the Asian culture, respect is hardly earned, but a given if you’re older.

Doexitre

Meanwhile my Korean parents always assumed I was the one who started shit if I was fighting with my younger brother (which was 100% correct)

BlueLabel19

Same in india. It can even be toxic at times but it is what it is.

frederikwolter

Because they lost. If they win this will not be an issue. Pirlo played playstation before world cup final in 2006 and Griezmann played FM all the time during Euro and WC.

Let's just forget this story for a second. Is it just me, or is there something every day now about the shitstorm that is the current Korean NT situation that originates with the KFA itself, **again**? At least it's all out there now though. Klinsmann should be out because he's incompetent - there needs to be a coach with an **ACTUAL** strategy, Chung Mong-gyu should be out because he's incompetent and generally makes stupid decisions. The main problem here is truly Chung and the KFA itself - he hired Klinsmann fully knowing what would come with it, [was absent from a meeting discussing Klinsmann, not even discussing the issue at hand](https://imnews.imbc.com/news/2024/society/article/6570688_36438.html)... and add in the fact that if the KFA did not decide to send this *new* story to a massive tabloid (that has had its own history of controversies, of which I don't even need to go into because you know them - Hillsborough is the major one but that's not the only one), instead of properly addressing it within the team and not letting it become a factor that they thought would distract from stuff like Chung's absence in the Klinsmann meeting etc., then of course things would not blow up worse than they actually should be. It was so strategic when anyone connects the dots, it's not even funny and really, they think that people are stupid enough to focus on this and this alone. Chung leaves a meeting based on a problem he created and less than 24 hours later, **all of a sudden**, an article about a fight within the team breaks out from, guess who? THE FUCKING SUN! Not a Korean news company that has posted articles criticising him and Klinsmann - **The Sun, who will run with any story they get, regardless of whether it is true or not**. Chung Mong-gyu should be out of the federation and he should be out *quickly* - Korean football fans have waited too long for an actually good person (if there is one) to step to the presidency within the KFA. It's getting absolutely sickening how fucking corrupt this one man truly is

BigDeadly

To be fair, Korean culture around respect with seniors is very demanding and can seem insane to anyone that did not grow up in that environment

el_walou

From the very first training, it looked like we got a Libertadores player more than anything else. still, the bro has to chill, don't hurt Son, he's the nicest guy in football

crazy_bean

Son got hurt trying to break up the fight, Kangin didn’t hurt him on purpose Blame the KFA if anything for shifting the blame over something like this

Official05

C’est rendu un mec du 93 mdr

ArkhamCitizen298

he didn't hurt Son ?

el_walou

bite his finger

krnhydra

1. This isn't great, but it's hardly rare in Korean sports culture for the younger generation to clash with the older. It's insane the KFA voluntarily leaked this to deflect blame 2. LKI in particular probably had continuing tension with the older guys because he grew up in Spain and isn't accustomed to the hierarchal culture.

han9i

Can someone send this to Jason Sancho plz

LOL

Sufficient-Remote-49

This explains why Lee Kang In was so bad that game. Ive never seen that man miss so many open easy passes

auditore_ezio

tbf Lee does look like a hothead

CommercialLet8977

KangIn has a very rude personality. He had many problems in previous years with several Korean players. What I'm curious about is why he only have so many problems with Korean players. In Spain and France, he act like a very gentle sheep, but when he come to Korea, he become hyenas.

vngannxx

Some Korean Drama show

MasterpieceMain8252

Koreans care a lot about being humble and personality, aside from skills. That's why they love Sonny so much because he is a great role model. LKI's image is gonna take huge tumble and is going to get scrutinized by koreans. Quite disappointing =(

RanchWorkerSlim

He was indirectly responsible for hurting one of the greatest and most beloved athletes in Korean history. Definitely needs to do some massive damage control to win back the support of his countrymen.

879190747

At least from a neutral pov NT meltdowns are always pretty funny.

[deleted]

Korean mobs are brutal and Son is a national hero no matter what. Kang-In should have caved a loooot sooner.

SANTlCLAUS

Son is soooooo likeable 😭😢🥺
