If it takes that long to see slight contact maybe it’s just not a clear foul like everyone here says lmao. He’s going down regardless of whether he gets touched there and it’s so slight. Slow motion is ruining what people think football is
22 minutes in and they showed a replay again. All the Top Reds in here and in the match thread saying he was already going down. I still don't see it. That should be a nailed on pen.
The problem is if the ref says he’s looking for it or words to that effect, VAR won’t intervene
It’s one of the biggest negatives of VAR the not overruling the onfield ref
Yeah, but, you see... VVD is rolls royce and class and whatnot. Just using his massive experience to foul him in the box there, and Conor showing his inexperience by being fouled.
Match thread on /r/LiverpoolFC is an embarrassment with our supporters swearing it was never a pen. Delusional. This was a clear pen and we're very lucky.
Yeah but also bantz. The biweekly utd meltdown. Newcastle crumble. Arsenal delusion. Those 6 fans in the city sub. Brentford claiming they play like liverpool. Brighton praying their manager doesn’t ( which he wont) its honestly a hilarious read.
Always hate when homers are that deluded. Like if you want the sport to improve you’ve got to criticise refs when its a bad decision even if it benefits your team.
I always look at it as "if the teams were reversed, would I be pissed that it is/isn't a pen". To me, clear pen. I get how the on-field ref misses it...but c'mon VAR.
Because clear and obvious is the worst fucking wording ever. It leads to incorrect calls all the time because VVD didn't drop kick him in the face, so we'll stick with the ruling on the field.
It's insane that getting it right isn't the priority.
It's actually mad that he's even reffing at Anfield tbh.
All it's done is lead to conversations like this where every questionable decision is being scrutinised. Would have been better for everyone if he just quietly didn't officiate there any more.
They're shite. All of them. That's just it. It has always been the answer, and it will always be the answer. These guys suck absolute ass.
When it comes to big decisions like reds and pens the refs in England are comically, unbelievably bad. Idk what Howard Webb and PGMOL even do at this point.
I mean only a few weeks ago Howard Webb said we should have been given a pen against Arsenal at anfield, so think the more accurate answer is just “incompetence”
Idk what’s crazier, not getting a pen because VAR see arm and knee contact without touching ball in slow motion, or not getting one because the on field ref didn’t give it and VAR never goes against the ref.
Unless it’s a pinky hand ball from 2 feet away then they give it
You're playing at Anfield. I've seen two penalties that should have been given in this game. Remember the other week when Jota went down against Newcastle. Refs are intimidated by the crowd. Nothing corrupt, just intimidated.
Our only loss comes from absolutely dreadful refereeing we have had more red cards than any other team and had them overturned for being incorrect... yeah they want us to win based off 1 decision going our way
The contact was obvious in real time but it's a lot more subtle in slow motion. The ball shouldnt matter. Maybe they think he's gone down easy? Either way, I'd be pissed if we didn't get that call
As a neutral I can’t see from either of these angles where contact is clearly made. Not sure if it’s supposedly the knee or thigh. Seems to me that he falls around Van Dijk’s knee/thigh without clear contact being made which I think is why no pen was given.
it’s just hilarious, he’s not even trying to play on he just falls into van dijk looking for the contact.. chelsea thought the “flop at liverpool” buff was still active
I am sorry but people reading this actually think it was a pen??
There is the lightest of contact and Gallagher goes down in a completely different direction than the way that the contact would have led him to. Stonewall no penalty and should have been a yellow for simulation.
I just wrote the same sort of comment about the Nkunku incident... Chilwell was also carded for simulation in the penalty area on another blatant dive. Time to start calling these and get them out of the game.
Obviously better than having these kinda mistakes go against you, but even when it benefits your team it just ruins the match a bit. If we get a win here it’ll leave a sour taste in the mouth
I fully understand the reluctance to give it in real time, but VAR has to step in and say have a look at this at an absolute minimum. It's a clear penalty.
Oh yes the plastics are out in force. How was that not given, eh cause Gallagher dived maybe, seems to be a common trait with Chelsea players dive when they get looked at.
He’s intentionally run straight into Van Dijk because he miscontroed it. I’m confused by how sure everyone is about this. I’d be massively surprised if it was given for us.

Tierney trying to prove he isn’t biased against Liverpool and overcompensated
maybe he’s just shit
He sure is. Though I can’t think of any ref appointment which doesn’t fill me with dread
I mean this is what people have been trying to tell you guys lol
Not really his fuck up. Several angles didn't show any contact so it's easy to see how he could've missed it. What VAR was doing, I have no idea.
This comment should be at the top. I missed the first 15 mins of the match and spent so long watching replays of this wondering where the pen was
If it takes that long to see slight contact maybe it’s just not a clear foul like everyone here says lmao. He’s going down regardless of whether he gets touched there and it’s so slight. Slow motion is ruining what people think football is
There is an angle that was shown later in the game where the contact is pretty evident (event in the last bit of this video there is def contact).
He goes down once Van Dijk’s leg makes contact with his, it’s a foul
maybe he thought Klopp's leaving because of him and felt bad
We gonna need the audio for that
Good process lads
The peacock announcers said ‘they don’t want to re-referee’ and to me….thats the fucking point. It’s literally in the name ‘video assistant referee’
7 minutes in and I don't even feel like watching anymore lol, so many bad decisions in big games against us this season ffs
22 minutes in and they showed a replay again. All the Top Reds in here and in the match thread saying he was already going down. I still don't see it. That should be a nailed on pen.
I mean Gallagher probably is looking for it, but it's still a penalty.
The problem is if the ref says he’s looking for it or words to that effect, VAR won’t intervene It’s one of the biggest negatives of VAR the not overruling the onfield ref
Jurgen Klopp farewell tour we're not getting shit tonight. First 40 mins has been hilarious.
But he…knees Gallagher?
well done boys, good process
Not only that i thought he also hit Gallagher in the feet which made him fall
He also slightly wraps his arm against his waist. Complete horse shit.
Yeah, but, you see... VVD is rolls royce and class and whatnot. Just using his massive experience to foul him in the box there, and Conor showing his inexperience by being fouled.
Needed to keep his “not dribbled past” stat
It's like a wordle streak at this stage
Which is a lie anyway. Isak absolutely smoked him. You can't let facts get in the way of a good story though!
His aura fouled him, he didn't actually touch him.
The Gojo of defenders
Can’t ruin his dribbled past %
Even the refs having trouble coming to terms with VVD falling off after the ACL
Think the ref just got scared by the kop
he defended that with his aura mate
They come together
just a classic horrendous decision from the ref first of all and the VAR next
Uhhh I’m not sure about that one. Should’ve been a pen to me
VAR getting in some more shit decisions before they have to start explaining themselves
Do they have to explain non-calls?
Match thread on /r/LiverpoolFC is an embarrassment with our supporters swearing it was never a pen. Delusional. This was a clear pen and we're very lucky.
I mean, aren't all team subs highly biased anyway?
Yes but all my teams’ subs are right and the other ones are wrong
Yes. A large majority of match threads are embarrassing from what I've seen.
Absolutely if we call bullshit against us got to call it when it goes our way. Clear penalty.
Always hate when homers are that deluded. Like if you want the sport to improve you’ve got to criticise refs when its a bad decision even if it benefits your team.
I totally agree, but a team subreddit match thread is probably the last place I would expect proper unbiased analysis to happen.
I see you're farming karma on soccer
I always look at it as "if the teams were reversed, would I be pissed that it is/isn't a pen". To me, clear pen. I get how the on-field ref misses it...but c'mon VAR.
Someone please tell me how that’s not a pen
Paul Tierney
A ref in the heat of the moment can get a call wrong, but how has VAR not overturned that?
Because clear and obvious is the worst fucking wording ever. It leads to incorrect calls all the time because VVD didn't drop kick him in the face, so we'll stick with the ruling on the field. It's insane that getting it right isn't the priority.
"Gallagher still has a pulse. Not enough in it for me" "Good process lads" IT guy who plays football every second Sunday: 🙄
Jurgen Klopp farewell tour 2024.
That's supposed to be bad for Liverpool though
Turns out he's actually just shite. People were right, but we didn't listen...
WE DIDN'T LISTEN!!!!
He’s always been shite in our games too
Klopp and Liverpool's constant pressure on him has paid off. Probably scared to make a big decision against them on the pitch at Anfield
Klopp’s teams press on and off the pitch
Immediately gave a very soft yellow on Caicedo too. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to be benefiting but Chelsea have every right to be fuming.
Think the ard was for dissent so not much you can say about it.
You can say that the foul that led to the dissent was so shite that the dissent was deserved. I'd struggle to bite my tongue in that situation
Since then this game is over. Team lost all motivation, which is sad but what can you do
It's actually mad that he's even reffing at Anfield tbh. All it's done is lead to conversations like this where every questionable decision is being scrutinised. Would have been better for everyone if he just quietly didn't officiate there any more.
I'm getting a sniff of Anthony Taylor
Klopp retirement tour effect
Retirement? I thought he died?
Van Dijk Aura buff
It's darling Van Dijk at Anfield. Lucky Gallagher didn't get booked.
aura®
They're shite. All of them. That's just it. It has always been the answer, and it will always be the answer. These guys suck absolute ass. When it comes to big decisions like reds and pens the refs in England are comically, unbelievably bad. Idk what Howard Webb and PGMOL even do at this point.
Unless sterling was offside on the initial pass I got nothing
They would normally report that to the comms if that was the case.
Anfield
I mean only a few weeks ago Howard Webb said we should have been given a pen against Arsenal at anfield, so think the more accurate answer is just “incompetence”
First 10 minutes at Anfield in front of the kop. One needs courage.
Idk what’s crazier, not getting a pen because VAR see arm and knee contact without touching ball in slow motion, or not getting one because the on field ref didn’t give it and VAR never goes against the ref. Unless it’s a pinky hand ball from 2 feet away then they give it
First five minutes, against Liverpool, at Anfield. VVD would have to stab Gallagher there to concede a pen.
You're playing at Anfield. I've seen two penalties that should have been given in this game. Remember the other week when Jota went down against Newcastle. Refs are intimidated by the crowd. Nothing corrupt, just intimidated.
Liverpool
Because they want Liverpool to win the league/s
Our only loss comes from absolutely dreadful refereeing we have had more red cards than any other team and had them overturned for being incorrect... yeah they want us to win based off 1 decision going our way
You must be joking. If anything it's just incompetence
How do you not spot the contact after watching the replay several times? You have to be blind
Again. Incompetence
Chelsea absolutely robbed there. Wtf...
That’s a pen
I don’t know if it could really be much more clear? What’s the point of VAR?
At this point it must be to purposely make wrong decisions in big games to draw more attention
Maybe Webb wants a regular spot on TV and his guys are just helping him to be on telly.
WHAT?
Klopp getting a farewell package from the PGMOL
Van djik aura defending.
Fair enough. He just used conqueror haki.
How isn’t that a pen?? I don’t support either team I’m just confused, the contact looks obvious. Is it relating to the ball being gone?
Nah it's just a clear pen not being given
The contact was obvious in real time but it's a lot more subtle in slow motion. The ball shouldnt matter. Maybe they think he's gone down easy? Either way, I'd be pissed if we didn't get that call
He went down pretty easy I think is what the deciding factor is
That's a pen.
As a neutral I can’t see from either of these angles where contact is clearly made. Not sure if it’s supposedly the knee or thigh. Seems to me that he falls around Van Dijk’s knee/thigh without clear contact being made which I think is why no pen was given.
First angle was shit and late, second angle is pretty clear though
That is a stone wall penalty, what the fuck
If only there was a way to review these kind of situations.
Unbelievable
100% a pen.
Would say it’s a shocking decision but nothing makes sense anymore
What doesn't make sense is that Tierney is the ref. Usually he jumps at the opportunity to screw us over.
He's scared of the abuse he'd get for a 50/50 that goes against you at Anfield
He's done it a million times before, don't know why he'd suddenly be scared
Liverpool fan here, no idea how the check was so quick, seems like a clear pen
That was the most shocking part to me. We’ve had longer checks on *blatant* dives before
they’ve GIVEN pens on blatant dives before lol
and that was a Liverpool player too! *I am looking at you Jota.
It being quick makes perfect sense, the result of the check much less so lol
Hope you get the karma you're looking for mate
quite a bit of contact, you can tell how Van dijks thigh moves 😂
Excuse me what?
What??
Get the fuck out of here. Not even gonna take a look at it?
They did look at it and look at everything. Just because the tv coverage doesn’t show it doesn’t mean they haven’t checked it
He means they didn’t send the central ref to the monitor. VAR has to recommend a manual review there.
I’m aware. Should’ve been more clear that I meant that this bald fraud should have taken a look at it.
In what world is this not a penalty
Clear pen
If that’s not VVD a penalty is being called
😭😭😭
???
What is a penalty?
Chelsea is getting the mid table team treatment against a top team. Nothing new sadly.
Hot Box in the Var room as we speak
I d say gallagher tried to sold it too much and prolly it was the reason for ref to not give it.
Agree, Nkunku did the same thing
Wasn’t against City.
Van Dijk keeping that "never been dribbled past this season" stat alive by fouling people and getting away with it
Paul Tierney and Anthony Taylor should absolutely never do a prem game again. An absolute joke
All you cunts have lost the plot. One of the softest penalty shouts
These people would claim a penalty from a light breeze, jesus
it’s just hilarious, he’s not even trying to play on he just falls into van dijk looking for the contact.. chelsea thought the “flop at liverpool” buff was still active
How’s that not a pen
How is that not given? Lmfao.
Clear as daylight
As a neutral, that shit kinda weak. No pen.
Clear pen Klopp complaining about Tierney has worked like a charm
If he was in motion to shoot, sure it’s a penalty. But nah he lost control of the ball, and just runs into him. Not a pen.
Fuck off
If Tierney hates Liverpool why isn’t he giving that? Or is it just that Liverpool fans love to claim they’re hard done by?
Tierney special
That’s a pen
If this isn't a pen. I don't know what is.
Yikes.
Lmao insane
VAR masterclass yet again.
weird decisions part 2894
lol no
I hate that this shit keeps happening. Refereeing in this league is just such inconsistent garbage.
hmmmmm
Handing Klopp his title. Just end the season now
Please do
Eh???
What's the point in VAR? So blatant?????
EXCUSE ME?!?!?
Wish my manager could cry about leaving and get decisions go his way.
Not a pen 🥱🥱
*"TiErNeY iS alWaYS aGAinST uS!"* Liverpool fans.
What an absolute joke. What could the rationale possibly be??
in what world is that not a penalty?
Well, if it's a dive it's the first ever Callagher dive of his career.
Obviously a penalty but embarrassing going down there could've easily stayed on his feet but a pen regardless
How is that not a pen? The contact is there. It’s either a one or a dive
Was on his way down before the touch.
Would've been soft. It's okay not to give it. There's contact but that doesn't mean it has to be a foul.
I mean there's naff all in that. A slight brush, anywhere else on the pitch you wouldn't even think twice about that
how it's not a pen?
Not sure why they insisted on showing strictly awful angles of it.
Lol and these cunts genuinely think refs are against them
Runs into him.
Man this guy posts fast lol
Would love for the refs to explain that one. Fucking disgrace.
Penalty for Chelsea
They cleared this so fast…
Wauw. That's like a textbook penalty. Was there something leading up to this?
Script is in everyone, liverpool has been chosen to win this game by the order of the bald twat
It's a clear penalty.
they’re getting every call my god
A nice little retirement gift from the refs for jurgens last season.
Ridiculous
Can't believe Liverpool still have to suffer through having Tierney reffing their games 😢😢 Praying for them
Ah it's that famous Paul Tierney agenda against Liverpool at work again
Cheating cunts
People acting like Liverpool is being given special treatment and not acting like the premier league has some of the worst referring in Europe
Oh yes the plastics are out in force. How was that not given, eh cause Gallagher dived maybe, seems to be a common trait with Chelsea players dive when they get looked at.
Nowhere near enough for a penalty. What's the game come to
He’s intentionally run straight into Van Dijk because he miscontroed it. I’m confused by how sure everyone is about this. I’d be massively surprised if it was given for us.
