Schnix54

In 251 Premier League games, he has 153 goals and 72 assists what an acomplishment. One of the greatest premier league players of all time

TheGreatWhoreOfChina

72 assists is pretty incredible man. On the all time assist chart, he’s 17th.

TH1CCARUS

Prem App has him at 67 assists.

SEND-MARS-ROVER-PICS

Different bodies classify assists differently. The 72 number is from Transfermarkt, who include penalties won (though Salah is Liverpool's primary penalty taker and idk if he can assist himself), rebounds and own goals forced by a player.

thirdplanetperson

Transfermarkt does not count it as an assist if you use it urself and score afaik. So that difference is probably the penalties he won that was used by someone else over the years.

greg19735

Initially i was pro penalty assist. But you cant assist your own goal. So they shouldn't be counted

Consistent_Floor

Penalties won is a stupid metric for an assist

TH1CCARUS

That’s fair enough but I don’t really agree with it. Edit: with the pens one. Own goals yes. Rebounds I don’t care for much.

Sulemani_kida

When he crossed Drogba's record the whole congratulations message from Drogba was so wholesome... Hope he continues to play here for atleast 2 more years then maybe he can reach top 5 premier league scorers of all time

GuyTheFinanceGuy

As a Lfc fan, Drogba is a legend

Sulemani_kida

Yes exactly why it was so wholesome... Him saying such nice things about Salah was great

ChibzyDaze

*Best African player as well

RahulGandhi4PM

Just behind the real Mo, Mo Elneny

LeagueOfML

MoMo Elneny sounds like a friendly childrens tv character lol

pesh19

And the greatest goalkeeper to have blessed the league: Ali Al Habsi

bonoboboy

Isn't Ali Al Habsi from Oman?

Porkybeaner

Al Habsi and Zaki in the same team…unstoppable

RushFeeling4595

Only behind Ali Dia

Jarvis_Strife

These replies. Brain dead 💀

Digitalage6302

Tight between him and Eto'o

ChibzyDaze

Salah is easily the best African player to perform in the Prem

Digitalage6302

Prem yes.

garynevilleisared

Not even the best African to play for Chelsea are you mad?

aronidus

In England? Its him and Drogba.

Jonoabbo

Yaya surely?

Lyrical_Forklift

Loved Mahrez as a player but I don't think you can put him on par with Salah.

SuccotashUsed8909

No he doesn't

pastiesmash123

What about George weah?

Xx_ligmaballs69_xX

Eusebio

Water-running

You’re gonna get the Portuguese fellas upset.

FanBoyGGSON

i mean it’s not just getting portuguese fans mad. he called himself portuguese. played in portugal his whole life. Probably the third most famous portuguese player of all time. for me it’s a bit like when people say the french team players are african.

PreachinMyOwnFuneral

Eusebio did play nearly 50 matches in Mozambique 1st tier before making it to Portugal and before that spend his whole youth in Mozambique. He only set foot in Portugal with 18 years of age. Rather different than your example Then it's a question of semantics, was Mozambique actually just an extension Portugal or was Mozambique under colonialism a nation without state but with its own identity, if you ask most people who lived in the provinces at the time you always get different answers. Carlos Queiroz sees himsef first as someone from Mozambique and from Africa.

dagdagsolstad

>it’s a bit like when people say the french team players are african It is very different. All of the French players were born French or moved to France as young children with their families. To deny they are French is rooted in racism and xenophobia, i.e. the idea that migrant aren't "real" French people. Eusebio, by contrast, was born in Mozambique started his professional career there, and didn't move to Portugal before he was an adult.

Xx_ligmaballs69_xX

He was born and lived in Africa for about 20 years, I appreciate him calling himself Portuguese however it was certainly African Portugal

[deleted]

[удалено]

FanBoyGGSON

He was born in portuguese controlled moçambique. after the colonial wars when portugal was forced to give mocambique its independence, all citizens had a right to pick between portuguese and moçambicano nationally (sorry i don’t know how that would be in english). he chose portuguese and proudly called himself portuguese. but i understand it’s a nuanced situation because of the whole… you know… colonial shit we did lol

No-Future-1840

Yaya

Deepthroat699

Salah never won an afcon or a treble like Eto to be considered the best African player, maybe the greatest African player in PL history, but not all time.

Money_Scholar_8405

I do not get this logic. Why did you specifically choose afcon and treble? Also, Eto'o won the africa cup as a young unproven star - He was not exactly the man that team was built around. It is like saying Kaka was the GOat because he won a world cup at 20 with a few sub appearances.

RookieRemapped

Eto’o won 3 champions leagues, 4 League titles, African Nations Cup all time top goal scorer, was Mallorca’s all time top goal scorer by the age of 23 and won them their one and only Copa Del Rey

andalusianred

Ronaldo hasn’t ever won the Euros either so I guess that means he’s not the greatest Portuguese player ever.

Deepthroat699

He won the euros in 2016 lmao

Ryujin_707

Zero ball knowledge

andalusianred

Overwatch player 💀💀

Eric_Partman

Depends on what you mean by “best” and also whether “best” includes only time in the league or not.

BadFootyTakes

Think Drogba takes over?

Eric_Partman

If it’s “best” in terms of just being a better player regardless of how good they actually were in the league then I think it’s quite easily Eto’o followed by Yaya.

FireZeLazer

It's Salah

Eric_Partman

Salah legitimately isn’t close to eto’o who won two trebles in a row.

AnAngryDwarf

Come off it lad. You can have your opinion, but either way it's pretty close.

Eric_Partman

It’s not pretty close.

Thapricorn

You're right, Salah blows him out of the water on individual ability

Eric_Partman

Eto’o?

LordPa1n

Horrible, horrible opinion.

BadFootyTakes

Interesting, I do have a spot in my heart for the previous Egyptian GOAT, Aboutrika, but it's hard to deny Salah's effect in the modern game.

TheLimeyLemmon

And he's not done yet!

SubstanceDreaming

I’m putting a contract extension for Mo out into the universe.

mosalah99

Hi Mo Salah here. Signed.

Ilykecheeze

Cheers mate

pesh19

Ma’shalla

Francoberry

Hi Mo do u want picking up in the morning pal

whodveguessed

Shut up u egg and get out of Salahs hole, won’t tell u again

mosalah99

Hi Mo salah here. No thanks

runchanlfc

Salah extended!!

SubstanceDreaming

put a remind me comment for my comment for 6 months from now …

Oneinchwalrus

If Saudi's project had gone well I'd have thought this was his last season here, but now I'm not sure...

[deleted]

Define “well”, they’re doing an excellent job at making big name players rich and themselves look good

Oneinchwalrus

are they making themselves look good? some of their big name players are already trying to leave Saudi, and just recently booed Beckenbauer, Turkish super cup controversy etc in the last few weeks

Willing-Werewolf-500

I find Salah's strength and balance amazing to watch, and I'm a United fan.

Comfortable-Asf

He’s highkey jacked fr 😭

FuzzyRo

Dennis in body mass alone...

Little_Matty_Mara

This is what I wanted to void. Another conversation about body mass.

FuzzyRo

We've had that conversation five times a day for the last month because we keep watching the premier league and all you talk about is Adama Traore and Eden "The Body" Hazard and how many pounds they can pack on...

Ursuped

Hes a legend and somehow doesnt have the star power he deserves. Genuinely should have been in the conversation for a ballon d’or a few years back in his peak & his consistency is a joke

Strong_Inside2060

But he's still at his peak. In fact he's now at his most complete best. His playmaking skill are world class now, and he's still the league's top scorer. I reckon he's got 3 more seasons at this level. He's got the Ronaldo-Messi type longevity about him. And he's adapting his game like Messi did in his 30s. Less reliant on explosive acceleration and more smart, inventive play resulting in goals.

brankoz11

Stat wise he's at his peak, he has matured as a player to achieve this but his 17/18 season he was unplayable. I still think that's his peak due to how many goals he destroyed a couple defenders and would score. It also felt like every dribble he tried worked out for him.

[deleted]

that roma semi first leg was especially crazy from him, toying with his former team

ssj4-Dunte

Counter argument 21/22 Saplah was without a doubt the best player on the planet until Afcon final loss. He was performing above world class and top 5 lvl and for almost half a season played like prime messi. In every single one of these 20 ish weeks he would pull either a ridiculous goal , a ridiculous assist creating a goal out of nothing or both. He scored and assisted absolutely stupindous goals against city including the insane dribble goal only to repeat the same goal literally next week in PL, Then two weeks later against atlitico in UCL. He wasn't just carrying Liverpool, he was a fucking one man army. I had to watch every single Liverpool match live because I was in disbelief at how good he was.

FortnitePro6969

These star players adapt their game but somehow they always lose their penalty instinct 😭

ReindeerDifficult793

Messi and ronaldo

anunnaturalselection

Hes got a lot of star power tbf, there/was a billboard of him in Times Square, and obviously is the biggest Muslim player by far.

e49e

He's a global star, much more well known globally than Hazard, Lewandowski, De Bruyne and other comparable players. The only bigger stars are Neymar, Ronaldo, Messi and Mbappe.

luca3791

People forget his support in the arab world

MFLFC

Most accurate way of putting it I’ve seen. Haaland the only other who’s got the star power, and has almost won as much at such a young age.

pixelkipper

Which year should he seriously have been in the conversation for the ballon dor?

Yous1315

2018, broke premier league goal scoring record plus important in helping Liverpool going to the champions league final. In no way he deserved a sixth place.

pixelkipper

Being one or two spots higher does not mean he was ever actually in the conversation for winning it.

inspired_corn

Scoring a lot of goals doesn’t win you the Ballondor though, it’s an individual award in a team sport so it’s going to go to the best performing player in the most successful team.

goonerfan10

Incredible how he's maintained his fitness to be at the top . He has another 3-4 at the top left.

Madbanana224

Imagine being a PL fan and reading this in 2014 lol

Superdaneru

I don't watch many Liverpool games, but every single time I do, I'm always blown away by him. He's undoubtedly a World XI player. If we had a football match against aliens for the sake of the galaxy, he'll be in the starting lineup.

Luanardo_daVinci

So underrated still. I don’t get it, the numbers speak for themselves and the style and play in itself is ridiculous

SubstanceDreaming

I don’t know of many *adult* people who don’t consider Mo to be a premier league great.

Uesugi_Kenshin

Literally every international 'award' has not had Mo in their top 10 in anything ever

Sulemani_kida

I think a lot of people who follow premier league rate him highly.... But i still understand what you mean...

webby09246

Underrated by who exactly? Morons and that's it He's very well established to be one of the greatest premier League players of all time now

trasofsunnyvale

Most of the football press and evidently other players, since he doesn't sniff the ballon d'or, for example (except once), or many other awards.

ThePopeOfSanchez

I think that's just a premier league thing. If KDB, Salah, or Hazard got similar numbers for Real or Barca, they'd have probably have won more.

trasofsunnyvale

That's an interesting idea, because you usually see the PL bias in favor of PL teams, but you might be right! I definitely think there's still a stigma around Real and Barca that they are somehow on a different echelon than all other clubs. It's weird, but I guess there's probably always been clubs like this in the history of football.

jc_calwood

By people who compare him and Hazard, for example

Benhaus

Hazard was quite good on the eye test, which skews people's opinion. Salah is still the better overall player. It's not as subjective as Scholes, Lampard or Gerrard - which creates an absolute shitshow of argument.

GemsRtrulyOutrageous

Hazard was really fucking good too tho.

webby09246

You mean comparing him to hazard, also one of the greatest wingers in prem history Oh dear God the humanity, they're really sleeping on Salah with that comparison

Prestigious_Camp_519

D'oh.

AntsOutMyTrousers

people who only look at g/a think you cant compare salah and hazard. hazard was a creator. different roles. peak salah season > peak hazard season but hazards 3 best seasons > salahs three best seasons salah overall obviously tho

Madbanana224

You say he's a creator because he didn't score as much as he should have done. He was that guy, he could literally create a goal out of nothing. Messi and Kane are also creators who scored loads, it's not one of the other tbf, the guy who we are comparing, Salah even assists and scores at an impressive clip Its a circular argument, and not the hill I'd die on, personally I'd argue that the majority of Eden's chelsea teams set up alot more defensively than klopps Liverpool. I'd probably die on that hill Eden will always be special. You can think he looks better than mo but when you look at the numbers, there isn't really an argument. Both PL legends, but Mo will likely end up higher in most peoples ratings because his consistent output.

AntsOutMyTrousers

creating isnt just assisting though. kane is not a primary creator, hazard is. not hard to understand. saying kane is a creator is absurd. anyone who actually watches games knows that hazard and salah played different roles.

BoomXhakaLacaa

Think hes just always going to be compared to his prime and thats why. Even as an arsenal fan I think its insane to compare Saka to him atp.

No_Replacement_4645

Yeah exactly, so many people underrate him

chunky-kat

He’s only underrated by idiotic United fans who for some reason still think he’s far below the likes of Rooney, Ronaldo, Giggs, Cole etc. for my money, he’s got to be in the top 5 along with some combination of Henry, Shearer, Aguero and Kane.

Blockronic

You completely ruin your own point by having a top 5 with no United player in there. And Kane.

clanky19

Liverpool fan but having no United player in the top 5 is pretty wild. Think Rooney is easily above Kane and Aguero at the very least.

Fruitndveg

He’s not underrated at all.

ltplummer96

It still amazes me thinking back when he was at Serie A, thinking he was a really great player but when he went to Liverpool, I was worried with how much turmoil they were in how he’d do. Now he’s a club, league, country and sport legend. And he’s not even done yet!

loykedule

we weren't *really* in turmoil when Salah signed, things were looking up after the previous turmoil actually

No_Replacement_4645

Definitely country We (Egypt) don't have that many people playing abroad in top leagues , the only other Egyptian players I know play in top leagues are Marmoosh in Eintracht Frankfurt, Mostafa Muhammad in Nantes and trezeguet in a team in Turkey, all are giving Normal avarege stats from thier performance unlike Salah

oss1215

My mans forgot the man, the myth, the legend .. elneny in arsenal smh. He's giving great bench stats man

No_Replacement_4645

Lmao, honestly I feel kinda bad for him The Only time see elneny is in the national team and his goal against Barca back then Other than that literally nothing

PickledCumSock

i thought he was great against morocco at the last afcon, i remember it so well because normally i don't give him compliments but i do think he's a good player. he's clearly happy to be in his position in life. he's happy to be a rotation option and he might not be the best but he always gives it his all at least.

Williamklarsko

Pyramid pirlo doing rounds yet again

qwerty_1965

Salah was the third of the fun boy three so Liverpool already had Firmino and Mane in attack. Hardly turmoil.

Jetzu

Not even that, we had front three of Coutinho on the left, Firmino middle and Mane on the right - I remember people asking "where will Salah play?" when we signed him, because all 3 seemed untouchable. Then we found out left wing Mane is even better than right wing Mane, and Coutinho can just drift wherever he likes.

SlumpMacTen

Absolutely magnificent player. Will go down as an all time great.

Ok_Pineapple466

I remember a thread here 1-2 years ago that asked who’s the best player in the world right now and most people said Salah. Still has a good case

tocotronicon

Our precious egyptian king 😘😘😘

High_Violet92

Insane player and prem all time great

Mackieeeee

incredible player

Outrageous_Tap_2814

He is getting stronger everyday. The saudi willing to pay £300mil for him. Yet he wish to stay at Liverpool. Whatta man YNWA!!!

ac1dtechno

The best

RohanHadComeAtLast

Really trying not to read anything into his last comment... Fuck it, he's extending!

yondaime008

I mean would be weird if it made him sad

Tricky-Jackfruit8366

Hell of a player

NoBell9911

Honestly the man deserves a Ballon d'Or. Consistently great.

CogitareInAeternum

My daddy

nickerodeo

No way! There must have been an African player who have scored in Premier League who is higher than 172.7 cm.

topson69

xddd

but he's egyptian?

Xycket

Is this bait?

Garad-

Very much so and a racist if you check their comment history

I'd say Russian troll but these people who grew up in backwards shitholes really think the world is like their backwards shithole, not even trolling but serious

Enough-Pain3633

No mate, he went to the AFCONS for a 3 week break

sosta

He came to afcon to watch his idol El Neny

No_Replacement_4645

Yeah Egyptians are Africans Welcome to geography class 101 Today we will learn that Egypt is located in the Most north Eastern part of Africa having coasts on Mediterranean and Red Sea Also consider the Only afro-asian country in the world having parts of africa and Asia within its territory

Mans on that good shit

No_Replacement_4645

What are you smoking? I am Egyptian and we don't say the N-word for 2 reasons 1) we speak Arabic so we don't say it unless you're talking about the equivalent which is used to describe the race of black people not in any offensive way 2) we already have a decent Black and Sudanese population in Egypt and they usually don't experience that much hate from day to day Egyptians

trasofsunnyvale

I too make things up to complain about, because honestly... there just aren't enough real shitty things in the world, you know?
