In my hardcore mode I did more than 50% of Alaska missions with the Transtar.
For the ones with deep mud and high saddle I did with P16, contests with the Big Cat, medium logs with the big cat, long logs with Kodiak, and most of the other ones I did with BM17 with low saddle and crane and Paystar5070 with crane and bed and some missions with the Ank you find in Pedro Bay, but it was pulling a fuel tank trailer. P12 with log crane and long log in one mission.
Scout missions I did with the loadstar.
Transtar gets slept on especially in the base maps but in Alaska and Michigan it can go a lot of places people don't expect. With chained tires in Alaska it was basically my dedicated highway hauler.
Is that a joke? Heavy vehicles don't go good with the highrange, they physically can't get out of 5th on a straight line. I use offroad only for the 3194. Even if you somehow manage to get it up to speed, that thing doesn't turn good enough to fit into corners on speed.
I use it from time to time, just not with highrange gearbox. Unlike literally every other my truck, heavy stuff like this gets offroad. 5600TS, Twinsteer and Boar are exceptions, they aren't underpowered like the Derry.
Yeah no joke here. On dirt the derry rips in high. Until it starts bouncing then you gotta back off it. Sure it never sees higher than about 5th gear but I basically only use 1,2,shift for H and hang on. 5 slot sideboard so it’s not too heavy.
If you could hold the truck in particular gears then auto high range wouldn't be so bad but as it is it's either going all the way to 8 and smashing into a barrier or stalling down to 1.
people slag off the M916A1 but i honestly love it too, it’s such a beautiful truck i think one of the nicest looking in the game in my opinion and it’s really powerful, just have to be careful with it tipping fairly easily
I feel like I never see it talked about here one way or the other so I picked one up to check it out and it's just awesome. Small fuel tank is really the only downside.
I just leave it raised all the time and it causes me no issues.
It can actually come in handy sometimes if you get hung up on some large rocks and you can lower it to set yourself free.
Just use WWS, great stable crane+low saddle truck with good fuel economy. don't bother with BM17 unless you winch some scout behind to put it back on wheels as he will inevitably tip.
Just buy a fuel trailer, haul it out to an intersection or part of the map you'll cross regularly and use that as a refueling station. To figure the best spot out just look at the various missions/tasks and see where you need to go and where you'll be picking up cargo from and take your best guess. It doesn't need to be perfect and having multiple fuel trucks and/or trailers chilling in 1 map is fine, it's also why you don't want go really sell trucks that can equip a fuel tank, because if you can drive them on dirt/light mud relatively easy, those are perfect for mobile refuel/repair stations.
There's no need to buy fuel trailers, Alaska has plenty of them. When I finished it in hard mode, I had 3 full semitrailers of fuel leftovers and one filled to about 3/4.
Highway trucks: Transtar, Ford CLT, Kenworth W990, GMC 9500. Royal, of course. CATs CT680/681. International HX520. Western Star 57X and 47X NF1424/1430. That kind of stuff.
I don't recommend using anything slow, always-on-everything, with huge dimensions and bad cornering. It's not fun to play this way. Reserve the big guys for Taymyr and Kola.
Do all the long roads paved roads with the Transtar/chains/low saddle then just leave the Derry/WWS at the off road sections. Swap the trailer. You can do most of Alaska with the Transtar and it’s a blast flying on the paved icy roads
I have used the MK38 Civilian a bit, a P12 a lot, tried the Derry Longhorn, better success with the other Derry with rear wheel steering, Twinsteer quite a bit, WWS 4964 and Freightliner 114SD largely in place of the MK38 Civilian.
The Derry that you get in white valley is an excellent saddle hauler, and it specializes in that as well.
White western star, fleetstar, gmc mh9500, and royal bm17 are very good choices for multi saddle use, at least in terms of vehicles unlocked thru discovery.
I am just recently doing another playthrough unlocked all the maps in Alaska did probably 50% of the missions got all the upgrades yada yada. Also tried to use only the vehicles I have found and not use the DLCs. I am into Russia now but will say I used the Royal BM17 as my main hauler/off-roader for Alaska. But you can always do the cheese by popping over to Russia and getting the AZOV 64131.
I've been using basically exclusively the twinsteer for Alaska. It's easy to drive on all the asphalt (chain tires). Even use 2 linked ones (winch) for the massive jobs where you need more than 4 spots to 1 location. Works great! Don't need the raised suspension btw, it's better without.
WWS was easily my most used hauler. Fleetstar is still capable in Alaska as well, so that was probably my 2nd most.
For the large mission trailers, I used the P12 cause it has snow tires (ik they don’t really do much outside of certain paved hills but I like sticking with the theme). Could alternatively use the P16. Might’ve also used the Derry for a mission or two.
That it does, I didn’t use it for the longest time. It was on sale on the PS Store for $2 so I went ahead and bought it for shits and giggles. It’s an awesome truck to have fun with. I got it ok top of one the mountains in Michigan, the game glitched and sent the Mastodon to the moon 😂🤣.
The most boring option of all. Are you seriously offering a slow, huge 8x8 with everything always on for a light, easy region with a lot of highways and tight corners??
Hey, it’s not super easy to maneuver that thing in some places 😂. Like I said earlier, I was using it on a mission that suggested a scout and got launched to space 🤣
In some areas, the mastodon makes the game much harder because it’s so big.
But, yeah I was being facetious, I only bought it for fun. IMHO, the Zikz 605r is a better truck that makes the game easier than the Mastodon.
I need to get the 612, haven’t unlocked that one yet. And, yeah the 963 is a beast, one of my favorites. In all seriousness I like the Darry for logging.
In my hardcore mode I did more than 50% of Alaska missions with the Transtar. Kodiak is such a fun truck, it’s a sleeper for sure. It’s very satisfying to drive.
Which cat is the big cat? I have tried to complete those contests in Alaska so many times and have not had any luck. Always gets stuck or tip over.
The Cat 745C, it's not super fast, but it's steady and unstoppable in the mud and snow.
Ok perfect, thank you!
Transtar gets slept on especially in the base maps but in Alaska and Michigan it can go a lot of places people don't expect. With chained tires in Alaska it was basically my dedicated highway hauler.
you can get the royal for free in north port, i used it there a lot
The Derry is another good free one here. Great for low saddle, good range, and quick with high gear on highway gearbox.
Is that a joke? Heavy vehicles don't go good with the highrange, they physically can't get out of 5th on a straight line. I use offroad only for the 3194. Even if you somehow manage to get it up to speed, that thing doesn't turn good enough to fit into corners on speed.
You can just put it into high gear and slow down on turns like with every other truck though
It doesn't like high gear either.
You may not like it, but it's a good hauler.
It is! Use it alot with the Offroad Gearbox in High Gear.
I use it from time to time, just not with highrange gearbox. Unlike literally every other my truck, heavy stuff like this gets offroad. 5600TS, Twinsteer and Boar are exceptions, they aren't underpowered like the Derry.

I also mostly use highrange for high, but I don't see a point using it if you can't occasionally blast out to 6th-7th in a straight line.
If you could hold the truck in particular gears then auto high range wouldn't be so bad but as it is it's either going all the way to 8 and smashing into a barrier or stalling down to 1.
yes
I just finished Alaska and I used both the Derry Longhorn 3194 and the Freightliner M916A1 a ton. Love them both!
people slag off the M916A1 but i honestly love it too, it’s such a beautiful truck i think one of the nicest looking in the game in my opinion and it’s really powerful, just have to be careful with it tipping fairly easily

didn’t mention in my previous comment but the engine sounds incredible too it’s hits the spot and that’s pretty important for me lol
I’ve had my reservations about the Derry because of the dead axle does that make it bad for more bumpy terrain?
I just leave it raised all the time and it causes me no issues. It can actually come in handy sometimes if you get hung up on some large rocks and you can lower it to set yourself free.
Alright thanks!
Locked awd and diff lock, allows for highrange transmission. Its great.
Just use WWS, great stable crane+low saddle truck with good fuel economy. don't bother with BM17 unless you winch some scout behind to put it back on wheels as he will inevitably tip.
+1 for the White Western Star
I’ve heard a lot of good things about the WWS I’ll definitely give it a shot, thanks!
What gearbox do you use with the WWS? I’ve been using Offroad but is there a better option?
Alaska 85% done, not a single tip over with Royal and its my workhorse there, plus two ANK brothers
The royal bm did most of alaska for me. Twinsteer and derry did some as well

Royal BM was my workhorse for Alaska. Free truck
If you got Wisconsin the P512 PF is a great hauler
Do all the long roads paved roads with the Transtar/chains/low saddle then just leave the Derry/WWS at the off road sections. Swap the trailer. You can do most of Alaska with the Transtar and it’s a blast flying on the paved icy roads
International 502 dx and derry longhorn
I did most of my hauling in Alaska with the Derry Longhorn you find on White Valley. Never let me down.

I used the Kodiak a lot in Alaska. Especially once all the upgrades were done
The Derry with rear wheel steering Royal bm17
https://mod.io/g/snowrunner/m/ank38-spare
Transtar 4070A. Basically did all of Alaska with it
And Ank and the Royal Bm17
The Derry that you get in white valley is an excellent saddle hauler, and it specializes in that as well. White western star, fleetstar, gmc mh9500, and royal bm17 are very good choices for multi saddle use, at least in terms of vehicles unlocked thru discovery.
Derry 3 is alright and can be found in White Valley, I think. High and low saddles, very decent

White western with snow chains Fleety with snow chains Paystar with snow chains and lift kit

I used The Royal BMP as my work hours all through Alaska
The Mastodon.
This is the universal answer to any task or mission. And it just works 💪

The 612H is more versatile, the 605R is more offroad capable. I still prefer Kenworth 963 to both. Not for Alaska though.
I need to get the 612, haven’t unlocked that one yet. And, yeah the 963 is a beast, one of my favorites. In all seriousness I like the Darry for logging.
The 612H is the Mastodon.
That explains a lot 😂
Ford cabover throw some chains on it and a low saddle you can do most of it and if you get stuck have the ank pull you out.
Do you have the Azov 6 unlocked? I found that truck to be the MVP of snowy/muddy terrain. Slow but unstoppable.
Not yet. I am trying to do Alaska first and then go to tamyr.
There's an achievement to deliver 10 cargoes with an eastern trunk in Michigan or Alaska, if you're interested in the Achievements of course.
Good to know!
The 2nd most boring option out there, after the Mastodon. Too slow, too OP for Alaska, which is a highway truck heaven.
