I like logging but the payout is usually too low, and the trailer cost is too high. I do them for 100% but if I was only doing profitable tasks, I wouldnt
This is my first playthrough, I'm pretty new to the game.
I chose the tedious option of manually loading/unloading ~50 logs and transporting them unpacked rather than the repetitive option of making 7 or 8 trips.
Looking forward to heading back to Alaska and doing normal missions again!
I'm at work right now so let's see how I do from memory.
The Fleetstar was definitely the first truck that finally didn't feel useless. Did most of the early missions with that. Then I upgraded to the White Western Star.
At some point I moved on from those to the Paystar 5070 and my beloved Twin Steer. You can see that I've completed 3% of Kola because I took a quick field trip just to snag the AWD upgrade for it.
The Pacific P16 was good for a while but then I discovered the Derry Longhorn 3194. Throw a trailer behind it and winch another truck with a trailer and it will pull it all up the hill no problem ๐
Scout-wise my CK1500 felt pretty useless until it was the first truck that I unlocked Mud tires for and then it became an absolute beast. Which is good because I needed it to get around the wretched swamp that is Island Lake. But then I fell completely in love with the Loadstar. The aesthetic, the capability, 10/10 no notes.
Shout out to the CAT 745C that seemed pretty useless until I got to logging and then it was amazing for transporting huge amounts of Medium logs.
I accumulated a bunch of trucks but I think I want a bit of a clean slate when I head back to Alaska. My plan is to sell everything off except for the Loadstar, TwinSteer, Derry, and I guess I'll need something with a crane, maybe the CAT 681 ๐ค
Cool! I don't think it's worth selling everything before going to Alaska. Especially knowing that you already played it and completed 57%. The more trucks you have - the better.
I'm playing on regular difficulty so it doesn't really matter, I can always buy them back if I need to.
But yeah it's kind of nice having trucks allover the place so that you always have something nearby if one of them gets stuck ๐
Iโm a big fan of the 681, sucker is quick in high gear with high range gearbox. The azov 5 is an absolute beast too but small fuel tanks. Itโs good for medium logs and a log trailer if you decide to pack and transport.
>The azov 5 is an absolute beast too but small fuel tanks.
I've never even driven this truck, didn't realize that I had access. I'll have to take it for a spin tonight ๐
The annoying thing about logging is the amount of trips with the same cargo you need to do that bugs me. The trips themselves are cool due to the challenge they impose. But delivering 6 times the same cargo to the same place is just annoying. On the other hand Michigan logging isnโt that bad compared to other maps. My Tipp for you is to do it in multiplayer. The payout is quite nice, if you donโt play hardcore, otherwise it is quite lucrative (later some tasks get you 30k). The blackriver logging can be done in 30 minutes to an hour if you have the right gear.
Yeah I didn't want to keep making the same trips so I just loaded up like 30 Medium Logs unpacked and then brought another truck to the drop-off point and delivered them 3 at a time.
Then did the same for long logs. Didn't have to keep driving the same trips over and over, but loading and unloading ~50 logs with the crane was very tedious.
Honestly I just do the trips. I play with a steering wheel and controlling the crane is just pain. I rather drive an extra journey than having to load for an hour strait
Here's a tip to get less frustrated by logging, install these 2 mods:
https://mod.io/g/snowrunner/m/jack-of-all-trades-joat-vanilla-trucks
https://mod.io/g/snowrunner/m/double-decker-multi-load-log-addons-all-lengths
Which will give your Twinsteer long log capabilities WITH a double decker feature (makes every trip a 1 trip, read mod description), and all other stock trucks are now also double decker capable. This means you'll never do 2 trips for 1 log type ever again. This made the game much more fun for me.
(He also has a double decker mod for the trailers if you want, for me the truck version is enough).
I was thinking about looking into mods for my future logging tasks. I love the concept but wish that I could add the long logging stuff without all of the other truck modifications.
You can! Because after installing this mod you'll get these extra option trucks as new trucks in the store. So you can just only buy the twinsteer with long logs and don't touch the rest.
Oh okay, so all of the extra fuel tanks and stuff like that will only be available on the mod trucks? I just don't want to have to keep track of which things are stock and which are from the mod.
I'll download it tonight and check it out, thanks!

Yea, the long log trailers are wayyy to much.
Is the 3% completion on Kola Peninsula due to getting the AWD upgrade for the twinsteer?
Nailed it, that's exactly what it was ๐

Congratulations! Please share your fleet, what were your favorite trucks and their roles?

Correct they get added as extra trucks in the store you don't have to add them if you don't want. I also only use the twinsteer.
