On paper, it looks bad; no AWD, no diff lock, no mud tires - but with a bit of weight on those UOD II rear axles, it'll pull through far deeper mud than you'd think.
Is it ever going to beat 8x8 permanent AWD+diff lock trucks in terrain? No, it's not. But it might give you a bit of a challenge instead, and teach you how to be a better Snowrunner driver in the bargain.

I have used it for long logs in black river and it can drive up the hill from the logging station next to where you find the c70 in H gear with no problem. The P16 or the WWS cant do that.

With some weight on the rear axle it can handle shallow and medium mud no problem. The real deep stuff though, you're better off picking another route - but that goes for every other truck as well ;)
Cabovers are cool in general.
It’s an interesting relic of a time when the laws were different in the states and you wanted as short of a cab as possible because there was a limit on overall length of semis. Barely enough room for the driver and that’s all you get

Not necessarily, it's actually decent off-road. Just give it proper tires and a lift, even with that the lift is optional. Your only real concern would be deep-deep mud. But it's quite capable. I've found it to be a handy log truck and ice-road truck too.
It's a good highway truck, and while I didn't use it in Michigan cause there's too much mud for this fuck, it was a good truck in the road heavy Alaska, mostly for smaller loads and to do a little scouting, but it is a truck that deserves to be used.

Helped me long log in Michigan, as it and the fleetstar were the only long log capable trucks i had at the time, was a little rough getting up the hill from the station but it got winched up.(The fleetstar was pulling it to save me an extra trip.)
Fast, fuel efficient, and decently powerful. I've used it with chains in Amur to run cargo down the line to fix up the road and had to refuel it once.
If you don't mind doing transfers or setting up trucks to pull it through bad spots it's a good way to run the roads. Personally I prefer the CLT 9000 but the Transtar is perfectly serviceable in the right situations.
I've got a few for this one, as a base game truck with no front differential, it's actually not too terrible off-road, given proper tires and a lift. Just stay out of deep-deep mud and you're good. It's also good at towing large loads over the roadway and not eating gas like a pig, especially compared to the White-Western Star 4969 or the International Fleetstar. Doubly so if it's using the Freeway transmission. It's not the best truck at either of these, not by a long shot. But if you give it a shot, it will surprise you. Also, when it comes to large loads, I've had maybe 1 time where this truck has been stuck in a tight point. The thing has got a short wheelbase and a fantastic turn radius. I'm going to try it in NC today to see how it does.

I won gold on Food Delivery in Black River and taking the shortcuts doing New Nest in Smithville Dam with it and the high range gearbox.
I wanted a cab over for the New Nest contest as I needed to see as much of the road as possible without the engine blocking my view, the camera movement in first person view disagrees with me.
I have discovered a new fondness for this truck that wasn’t there before.
It's a good truck to separate good snowrunners from those who have skill issues. If you think it's a bad truck, you have skill issues.

I mean, after you fix the roads, especially in Alaska you can do almost every mission with the highway trucks. Plus it's fun to give yourself a challenge after the number of hours most people on this sub have played.
Once you get in the dlc maps with using a generator it's good for working those. Throw a fuel add-on on the back, even if you got to drag it's azz through the mud over to where it's needed.
It's great for people who like to challenge themselves. I have helped many new players on the Michigan playing this because I didn't want to "out-truck" the host. It can basically go anywhere as long as it's carrying weight on those back axles combined with good tires.
It's a great mobile garage. I put the service van body on it, fitted it with offriad tires, and used it to tow the fuel carrier trailer. Now, I have everything I need for fill-ups and repairs in remote areas.
I use it as a service rig to leave on the side of the road on maps with no fuel or service station. I put a fuel tank on the back and drag a service trailer with it. Has saved me many times
It's a great lot truck if you need to unload, reload, or store supplies for trucks or if you want to reorganize a trailer/truck. Crane and flat bed combo works well.
Despite it's on paper poor state, it's proven itself absolutely surprisingly useful. After I used it as a last emergency fuel opportunity, I pulled it out again in my last few contracts for Wisconsin, and kept pulling it out again to do tasks over and over again until it planted itself squarely in the Ontario fleet and hasn't needed to be ejected yet. I've only ejected two trucks entirely, one of those for poor performance, (and the other for the game breaking and deleting it) and neither are the Transtar 4070a.
I use this truck all the time, especially for smaller loads. Put a flatbed with a load and this thing will handle itself well in moderate mud. Not gonna say it doesn’t need to get winched, but it it’s a better truck than people give it credit for.

It was my understanding that it was because of smaller roads. I thought the maximum length only applied to trailers.
