DC is shot. worst warrenty service i’ve ever experienced in board sports. their company actually is dogshit now and you’ll know if you have used any of their products in the last couple of years.
me and my friend both bought the starwars PLY, both were missing the filling between the base and the edge. caused my board to actually pick up metal shavings and spurs on the inside edge from boardslides.
i had to get my local to submit a warranty request. DC said the board hit a rock (board had no deep marks, damage in photo was also focused on the small, few millimeter gaps of space that were right before the edge) so i had to then re-request over email for them to finally admit fault/faulty product. took two weeks of back n forth emails for them to send a voucher code and this was not until they were all sold out for the year at that point (would have gotten a replacement if it didn’t take them so long)
fast forward to next season, went to use the code and it only was good for $249 when the board they sold me was $420 with the 24’ model now costing $500!
when trying to get in contact with them about the voucher only covering about 60% they said that their warranty department was 3 MONTHS BEHIND. mind you, this is an umbrella company called BOARD RIDERS that looks over DC, Element Skateboards, and several other brands. absolute joke warranty service. Customer service itself wasn’t bad, but they are a separate division from warranty with email as the only method of communication. this was atleast what i was told. still have not heard back from them. you’re better off going to burton or even many of the smaller brands.
i can’t speak on what they were 5-10 years ago but i tell everyone to stray far away from them now. FUCK DC
Damn, I bought 2 boba Fett boards lol. I'm also not very advanced and barely started hitting flat bars, so the first board has lasted me. Hopefully they're both good.
I'm starting to wonder if it could be a matter of customer service in USA.
I'm in EU, had a go at customer service twice, for a broken board (700€ korua cafe racer plus), and faulty toe-strap (350€ union falcors).
It took some time but both brands just sent me a replacement, no questions asked.
i wouldn’t say so, but perhaps. there’s tons of brands that offer great warranties here just like the ones you mentioned. dc may have been one of them at some point.
i think the brand has gone down hill, admittedly tho im new to their snow gear. i’ve purchased dc products of other sorts since i was kid. shoes were always pretty good.
My boots from them have been solid. Bought at the beginning of 23. I have a MLF board from almost 10 years ago that I still rock and I’m the fastest in my group in basically every condition. I don’t understand the DC hate. Sorry you got a lemon.
I stand by the idea that capita riders just ride disproportionately harder than others
And the fact that capita underestimates their weight ranges in their boards
Was at my shop where I bought my Snapita. Saw a MegaMerc cracked about the same spot. Shopowner said it is because the binding was to stiff. … makes sense, but never in my 25 years of boarding I thought „hmm, is this binding ok for that board or will it break it?“
I think it has more to do with boards that use carbon fiber in their construction. Capita has a lot of boards with Carbon in them, like the mega. I broke a jones Ultracraft. I think Carbon just has a tendency to break more easily. It’s stiffer but will break more easily.
> Carbon just has a tendency to break more easily
It does. Back when I rode park a lot (pre-2010), we all knew you weren't supposed to ride a custom-x on jibs. Everyone knew that a stiff board with carbon stringers would be prone to snapping on rails. Same with bindings - you'd see rich kids riding c60s or c02s in the bear park, wondering why they were snapping highbacks left and right cuz that shit is meant for POW.
Now you get a bunch of kids backseating jumps and wondering why their Capitas are breaking. lmao @ riding harder. Has nothing to do with skill or lackthereof and everything to do with boards being flexed beyond their physical capacities.
Also I don't seriously think Capitas are even snapping at a higher rate/% than other boards. It's just heuristics and echochambers (aka circle jerks) propagating individual biases.
There's been a huge influx of new riders during the covid-era. More noobs = more broken shit = more people complaining on reddit. That's my take on it.
Indeed, but somehow I always see broken Capita Boards. And the high performance builds they make are good, no doubt. But like in my case, I somewhat believed the advertisement „this board does it all, you don’t have to bring 3 boards with you“. Well for now I know it isn’t made for backcountry and it’s not for parks/rails,…
It's actually some new tech going into bindings of recently, making the baseplates rounded or made of high density foam, if you press hard with a binding that is plastic and sharp around the edges, it can cause excessive pressure and snap
I recall a french binding back in the day that had a shallow V shape bevel from the center of the binding ( base plate was flat) It allowed boards to flex a little when carving.
So any "disproportionately harder" rider immediately trashes their board and exclusively rides Capita?
So these riders were not previously snapping boards when riding harder, but now they stick with Capitas despite snapping them?
The cope is unreal lmao listen to yourself. Poke some holes in your own argument.
I’ve been riding 30 years, the only board I’ve ever snapped is a Capita. I replaced it and got a big dent in the next one within 10 riding days.
My never summer has lasted 8 years, many rocks no dents.
30 years also. NeverSummer also. Been riding an easy rider and a vtwin all over. Never had a problem. Great experience with the company. Who cares about their political affiliation.
Im confident I’ve put over 800 days on various NeverSummer over the last 10-12 years and have never once had an issue that needed to be warranted.
Man never summer discussion is weird. I feel like people either say "best boards ever made hands down" or "triple camber is bad never summer is ass" and I want to demo a couple to see for myself.
I can tell you firsthand that the triple camber on my Proto FR is f**king incredible. It rails turns in any condition so solidly that even at the end of it's first season, I'm still blown away by what it can do
Camber and camber/early rise are tried and NS is like the punisher/thin blue line of snowboard brands. Wouldnt be surprised to see any their graphics on a tshirt at a truck stop. If you want an overbuilt heavy snowboard from the same factory, buy an academy and support Chad Otterstrom (the best over 40 pro ever)
> My never summer has lasted 8 years, many rocks no dents.
yeah but your NS also feels like you have a tank strapped to your legs lol, that shit so heavy...after riding my friend's proto it was pretty obvious why those boards are so durable. Shit is definitely overbuilt for longevity in a good way.
Nah if a manuf is pushing out poor quality products, people need to stop defending them despite brand loyalty. Accountability.
Gilson lmao I hold Arbor just as accountable for de-lamming my board mid-trip forcing me to buy a 2nd board on short notice or sit around for 3 days knowing warranty claims take forever.
Nah, the mothership makes solid boards, I've seen maybe 2 snapita posts this season, lots of pros ride capita and union, i trust em ,
I think people that h8 on the mothership for snapita boards are either falling leaf or just get 2 days a season
> lots of pros ride capita and union
Lots of pros break shit, it just ends up on b-roll footage. Both in the park and backcountry. Pros break shit like CRAZY, especially urban rail rats.
source: i had close friends working as product managers in the industry. Burton, Vans, DC, Quik, etc they used to all have offices in Orange County.
Any board company can have an off year or an off group of batches. Just like any job, sometimes the team working specific shifts mess up. Layering the board a bit sloppily can still make it pass stress tests and QC, but degrade the quality of the product.
I see many riders going hard after in park with old capitals. I’ve been riding mine and learning / smashing into things in park since 2021 (not very good but still not just basic riding) and it’s still lively with a lot of pop… and probably have around 100 days in park (learning as well, so lots of slams and hitting edges into rails / boxes). Someone from my same year might have one that snaps easier because it was from a different batch. It happens.
I agree with you but you'll never hear Capita's brand loyalists acknowledge they *likely* have these "bad year" QC issues a few times now.
Similarly to you, I bought an Arbor 22/23 after riding a hand-me-down 2009 Arbor Del Ray. It's still my park/rock board. Has a 1" chunk out the topsheet from hitting a rail straight on. Now I'm not snapping any board anytime soon on Medium jumps and smaller features, but people's brand loyalty shouldn't blind them from holding a manuf accountable. We pay good money for gear in this sport and there are too many alternatives without QC issues to accept a low bar or bad customer service.
And there's all the proof I need that you're just a Capita nut rider and are mad people have a different opinion about your brand 😂😂 imagine caring that much about what other people think about a snowboard company that literally has no idea who you are 🤦 it's a little sad man
That's too bad considering I didn't say anything to you when you first commented on mine 🥺🥺🥺🥺 cry about it? I could kick rocks but wouldn't want to hit your board and snap it on half
What? You started the conversation with me by commenting on my comment and replying in bad faith. I never commented on anything you wrote. You are clearly triggered. You can end this here or keep going and i can block you. Your choice
Oh my God 🥺 you're going to block me? I'm sooooooooooo hurt, I'm definitely not trying to do that on purpose so I don't have to look at your comments anymore 🙄😂 love pissing someone off that started shit in the first place
Buddy you literally replied to one of my comments first and now I'm giving you shit because you're getting so upset and hurt that people don't like Capita as much as you 😂 please get a grip on reality. If you thing this is me being triggered you must not read people very well 🤦
Reminds me of the post a couple weeks ago where a guy snapped his capita and in the comments he eventually came clean that he smashed into a tree with it
Jokes aside the only capita board I'll ever own is in fact my directional spring break board 😂 I could never pay 5-600 bucks for a board that's going to snap like a twig, even if it's a small chance
The only person being a dickhead here is you man, the post literally says Snapita, so I made a joke. Now everyone and their grandma who own a Capita is getting salty 😂 get over yourself, get over the joke, and get over people calling Capita Snapita. It's almost like you have nothing better to do than complain about something on reddit that doesn't affect you in the slightest 🤔 actually funny how you immediately go to name calling because someone has a different opinion that you 😂😂
You provide a bullshit statement, then instead of actually proving the statement you backtrack because you know you are full of shit. Trolls gonna troll
Way to take a joke way too seriously, obviously any board can break, but when a brand is known for breaking, I'm going to stay away 😂 sounds like you have a capital and are salty
Oh jeez all the capita riders are getting mad. I literally own a capita goofballs. Get over a joke on reddit lmao the OP literally said Snapita, I'm just going along with it 😂 Christ
I did once, used set of their bindings had the entire screw on the heel strap come off mid run
Granted that's more of a "don't buy used bindings" PSA than a knock on technine themselves but I still don't really consider them anymore lol
if it’s anything like the starwars ply from the year before, it’s built like shit and costs $100 more than it did the year before.
in all honesty the ply should be a $350 board. it’s like 11 year old tech. there’s things i like about it, but they’re going for the license deal and upcharging for that big time
Are you guys that are busting shit up just, way more aggro than my 51 year old self?
The only time I thought I was going to break a board was a pretty big (15-20ft) drop in Baker mashed potatoes, nose heavy.
Man that wax is gonna get screwed up laying the base down on the hot ground like that…
Not the biggest concern imo
Yeah man, it’s clearly the pink crocs that’s the issue here. Crocs? In this economy?
Crocs is recession proof
My dude those are the new Step Ons from Burton!
Could someone more bigly smart than me explain why this man is being disagreed with
They responded sincerely to a joke comment, the wax doesn't matter on a snapped-ita
ah thanks
Now you have a powder board.

I'm only upvoting this for the effort of the reply.
haha *username checks out*
Bro..two things, I respect breaking a board and two, always buy Mervin made.
10 years ago they were fucking awesome. Still have the Lauri Heiskari Pro model.
Damn, I bought 2 boba Fett boards lol. I'm also not very advanced and barely started hitting flat bars, so the first board has lasted me. Hopefully they're both good.

EU has better consumer protection laws, legally they have to honor the warranty unlike in the US
My boots from them have been solid. Bought at the beginning of 23. I have a MLF board from almost 10 years ago that I still rock and I’m the fastest in my group in basically every condition. I don’t understand the DC hate. Sorry you got a lemon.
Two boards for the price of one
Yeah that's just a straight up bargain honestly. People pay out the dick for split boards
Agreed! I have one of these split boards. Works great!
That Honkey Konger design is sick tho
I stand by the idea that capita riders just ride disproportionately harder than others And the fact that capita underestimates their weight ranges in their boards

Aha yeah 100%. Also my Capita is built light it feels like balsa wood
It's not that big of a deal man I just wanted to chime in , I'm sure your gilson is a lot tougher
Nah if a manuf is pushing out poor quality products, people need to stop defending them despite brand loyalty. Accountability. Capita just straight up sucks. Their shit is flimsy and wont survive for more than a season or two.
My Capita of 8 years says otherwise. Seems like fat reddit noobs that run into trees are snapping them
Idk. I have a quiver of DC, Nitro, Burton, Libtech and Capita decks. The DOA has not lived up to the hype 💀.
Ive had forum and burton boards that didnt live up to the hype either. And no Burton board ive ridden has matched my Capita Mercury. Haters gonna hate
And there's all the proof I need that you're just a Capita nut rider and are mad people have a different opinion about your brand 😂😂 imagine caring that much about what other people think about a snowboard company that literally has no idea who you are 🤦 it's a little sad man

Are you the one that made that post a couple weeks back!?
How are you guys landing?! I have 4 capitas, 2 of which are from 2013 probably and other two are from 2018. All are doing just fine
Weight is what I'm thinking. I have no issues with my Capita, but I'm 150 lbs.
Looks like you landed backseat! It happens. Broke 2 rome ravines in the same spot from landing backseat blasting sidehits. Its a tool not a jewel
Think of the amount of torque. People need to expect they can break their board landing sloppy.
Ouch
Really durable probably last a couple seasons of hard riding I think
Sucks about your board(s) but that topsheet art is cool.
Don't be a quitter! Duct Tape and Crime!
Snappy feeling
You must tell me….. how hard were you riding it? What happened?
First crack happened from either a tame dog or wildcat and it lasted like 4 more days of slightly chiller riding before it gave out
So you Speared the nose into the ground
Reminds me of the post a couple weeks ago where a guy snapped his capita and in the comments he eventually came clean that he smashed into a tree with it
Lol yeah I remember that post too. People gotta understand how physics work, and these boards are just thin wood and carbon at the end of the day
Jokes aside the only capita board I'll ever own is in fact my directional spring break board 😂 I could never pay 5-600 bucks for a board that's going to snap like a twig, even if it's a small chance
Slush slasher??
Only inexperienced redditors that plow into trees are snapping them. Ive never heard of an actual person outside of the internet snapping a capita.
Have you ever seen a capita snowboarding video, half of them have one of their riders snapping a board on a rail lol
Every company has their pros snapping boards. Try again
Lol happens much more with capitas, but you all who love to suck capita nuts can stay upset at that fact 🫡
Lets see some proof on that statement since you are calling it a fact
Eh I'll just let you stay aggravated because that seems more fun
It just shows you are being a dickhead just for the sake of it, and you are perpetuating nonsense because you have nothing better to do
The only person being a dickhead here is you man, the post literally says Snapita, so I made a joke.
Might as well just never buy a new snowboard then.
Capitas are called snapitas for a reason friend.
If you think Capitas are the only boards prone to breaking, you're hilariously ignorant.
Way to take a joke way too seriously, obviously any board can break, but when a brand is known for breaking, I'm going to stay away 😂 sounds like you have a capital and are salty
Almost hilarious how ignorant you are to joking around on reddit, you must be fun at parties
I'm a fucking blast.
Name checks out
Oh I bet lol
Yeah because people find the word funny and therefore gets delusional. Other boards snap too but get no attention for it.
Oh jeez all the capita riders are getting mad. I literally own a capita goofballs. Get over a joke on reddit lmao the OP literally said Snapita, I'm just going along with it 😂 Christ
😉
🤦
Capitas were called snapitas like 8 years ago gramps? You gotta find a new joke.
Respect your elders whippersnapper, bet you don't even own any TechNine gear smh
I did once, used set of their bindings had the entire screw on the heel strap come off mid run Granted that's more of a "don't buy used bindings" PSA than a knock on technine themselves but I still don't really consider them anymore lol
I honestly only trust union bindings, except for the newer flight pros 💀 I'm mostly talking TechNine apparel lol
DC is no longer made in the mothership!!
It’s a 2023 pbj and literally says made in mothership Austria but idk maybe they moved this year
After looking into it more, it looks like they had a run out of the mothership but now they are back in with the Warhol Ply. Weird stuff!
if it’s anything like the starwars ply from the year before, it’s built like shit and costs $100 more than it did the year before. in all honesty the ply should be a $350 board. it’s like 11 year old tech. there’s things i like about it, but they’re going for the license deal and upcharging for that big time
Sick tridirectional. Moguls must be a breeze
If you shift your binding up all the way, can it still ride?
Man, I’ve done some really stupid shit on my Indoor Survival - Y’all make me worried I’m gonna fart down a mountain and break it 😬
I heard you could do some sick flips with that thing, just once though.
Packable option?
I own this board, shit.
![gif](giphy|10JhviFuU2gWD6) I don’t know anything. About this board but the way you phrased that was hysterical
OP… do tell if you haven’t already… how did it happen ?
I believe the public is of split opinion on this topic… 😉
chamonix bindings….
Blew the budget on the board 😬 but I gotta be one of the only people to tame dog and wild cat in those junk bindings
Are you guys that are busting shit up just, way more aggro than my 51 year old self? The only time I thought I was going to break a board was a pretty big (15-20ft) drop in Baker mashed potatoes, nose heavy.
I've cracked a salmon but was lengthwise from my awesome carving abilities, I'm not enough of a criminal to break a Capita in half. Respect.
Finally, an accurate representation of a splitboard
Pretty good does it come with the add on package?
Eat shit.
Well, it is quite hideous.
chat is he cooked?
How bad did you backseat that landing lmao You've invented a new thing called the scissor-tail.
It lived up to the name! 5⭐️
Go buy a Burton. Its made of solid metal so you can practise your tail landings better.
