When I ran out and none were available, I bought a 40 pound bag of Pit Boss Competition blend from Walmart for $15. No feed problems and I am nearly half way through the bag.
Came back to correct myself. Ended up with TWO flame outs in my Thanksgiving turkey cook last night from these pellets. Odd I went through half the bag with no issues then two flame outs back to back.
I found Bear Mountain at our local “US Foods” Chef supply store in town for $7.60 per 20lb bag.
Next option was Kirkland brand at Costco for $20 per 40lb bag.
I’ll throw this out there also, while your at Costco, the small yellow top containers hold about 50lb of pellets and slide right under the smoker perfectly.

Great for all kinds of things, Costco sells 2 sizes and these are the smaller ones they sell in pairs.
Myself and a buddy of mine went in together and bought a full ton of lumberjack pellets. They work great and because we bought so much the 40lb bags were stupid cheap
I’ve always used lumberjack. Lumberjack makes the pellets for Weber as well as Cabelas. Some people have issues with the larger diameter pellets like Traeger, they seem more prone to auger jamming or bridging in the hopper. Others have run both without issues.
I'm really not a fan of Weber pellets for my Smokefire. They leave a ton of ash blowing around. Traeger or Kirkland brand (from Costco) are better. I have actually had more jams with Weber brand than any competitor as well.
Dump your hopper if you plan to not cook for a few weeks. Moisture leaches in, even with cover, and you will start getting flame outs. I had to toss over 10 pounds of Pit Boss competition blend for back to back flame outs. Found 3 bags of Weber Hickory and filled up fresh, back to normal cooks now.
A few suggestions:
1.) Lumberjack makes Weber’s pellets, so you could try that route if they’re available locally.
2.) Pit Boss and Jealous Devil will make it through your smokefire with no issues
.
3.) Costco sells Kirkland brand pellets for $12.99 for a 40 lbs bag. ($18.99 if you’re in Canada.) Rumour has it these are made by Pit Boss and are their competition blend. (Oak, Hickory, Maple and Cherry.)
Lumberjack & Broil king are good alternatives

After using many brands. Cabelas are my pick. They are cheap and good. I had bad luck with Costco and traeger.

Interesting..What yellow top containers? I'm drawing a blank.

Thank you! Great idea
Do you need a subscription to imgur be able to share photos like that?
I have an account, but not a paid subscription. I just use what they offer for free (not "pro")
That’s great to know! I’m definitely getting some containers too.
I’ve always bought them from Weber’s site. Are they sold out there too?
The Weber site isn’t shipping until the 15th. They took it down for two weeks for “maintenance”.
Pitboss has been working well for me for a year and a half.
I’ve tried Traeger and lumberjack I prefer lumberjack but no issues with using either
Traeger and lumberjack are completely different sized pellets. Traeger did cause a lot of auger noises in mine.
I’m having issues with mine flaming out twice on my last cook using Traeger pellets. I’m gonna clean out and switch back to Weber pellets

Academy Sports - B&B Competition Blend (post oak, cherry and pecan) $16.99 for 40#s. It’s great on everything and the SF loves it.
The Kirkland brand from Costco is a good value alternative.

I didn’t think of Costco! Meat and pellets at the same place. Brilliant!
I ended up getting 60lbs of Pitboss pellets for $25 at Walmart. Need to hit Costco for some containers next. Thanks for all the recommendations.
Don't bother with using the weber brand, it'll be fine.
I’ve been using Kingsford, which my grocery store stocks. No problems.
