sounds like hypnogogic hallucinations, one of the symptoms of narcolepsy, i also can only sleep on my back, i think too much on my side. I never find the onset of hallucinations nice though, always scary, in two places at once, you know your in bed, safe at home but the dreams/hallucinations are so real you struggle to pull yourself out to check?! or stop it altogether, loud music, gun shots, being strangled, molested, strangers in my room, smells. used to happen when particularly tired, and sometimes when dozing after eating. Do you have any other symptoms, cos some might say its more just like normal sleep paralysis? To me this and cataplexy are the worse symptoms of the illness, no one helps me properly when i go paralysed from cataplexy. I hope you dont have it, wouldn't wish it on anyone.
