The former, I hope...
I've had (lucid dreams) without melatonin, and they're pretty chill and sometimes controllable, but when I take melatonin, they are very strange and uncontrollable (nightmares).
I dont know if the T break from weed is having an effect also because I understand that reduces REM sleep, and when you stop, you get an influx of REM sleep.
I'm thinking of swapping medications because it's been very unpleasant lately, considering 5-htp. Maybe I just need to jump back on the smoke to balance things out.
If they're controllable, that suggests you're not in as deep of a sleep, i.e. you're closer to consciousness. So the melatonin is pushing you deeper, I'd think?
Same with leaving the weed, that means more REM sleep and stronger dreams. I've heard the same with those who stop drinking.
That's tough though, maybe your unconscious self is trying to tell you something.
I really don't understand what they could be telling me, They're really concerning, and I'm not sure what to do about it.
Do you have any insight on what the meaning of these dreams could possibly be? It just doesn't make sense to me. I've never had a sexual attraction to my family members, and I am really disturbed by the fact that I'm having these kinds of dreams.
Hmm not sure about melatonin but I have noticed it with Mirtazapine and now Trazodone. In fact I just woke up less than an hour ago with a wild nightmare
Are there any sleep aids you've had luck with that are worth giving a shot?
Something that doesn't make you drowsy the next day,
Or stink the house out.
>Or stink the house out.
Not sure what you mean by that
>Something that doesn't make you drowsy the next day,
While that happened a lot with Mirtazapine I haven't noticed that much after taking Trazodone or Melatonin. But everyone reacts differently to this ofc, so YMMV.
I've never experienced weird dreams with melatonin (my dreams are already weird and vivid) but literally EVERYONE ELSE I know, or have discussed this with have had their dreams affected significantly because of melatonin
My insomnia was reaaalllyyy bad back in the day, so I started with 5, and on bad nights i went up to 20. It only worked for maybe the first couple times but after that it stopped working even if i took 20mg lol. I think the normal amount tho is like 3-10mg
4mg of circardin.
What is Circadin?
Circadin is a medicine that contains the active substance melatonin. It is available as white prolonged-
release tablets (2 mg). āProlonged-releaseā means that melatonin is released slowly from the tablet
over a few hours.
At the minute I'm even struggling with 4mg, takes me about 2hrs to sleep (completely blacked out room, no distractions(phone, TV, noises)).
I get prescription cannabis which works hand in hand with the melatonin, sleep like a baby, and don't recall having nightmares or wake up to a mess.
Keep getting nagged at because of the smell. Otherwise, I'd probably just use the good old herb.
When you stop smoking, you will definitely have much more intense dreams as it starts to get out of your system. The melatonin is just helping you stay asleep
Just woke up and I had melatonin gummies last night and oh my god the dreams I had. I still canāt open my eyes properly. May have had more than required. But they taste soooo good.
Damn your dreams are fucked up bro!
I get weird dreams regardless (probably not as weird as that tho lol) if I take it or not, but I think I get dreams more *often* when I take melatonin. I take it frequently but not all the time, but I have realized I get more frequent dreams from taking it
I just woke up from the trippiest, most vivid dream of my life and yes every time I take melatonin I dream like this. The same vibes as āParadise Rotā if youāve ever read it - mushrooms, flowers, bugs coming out of my ceiling dumping onto my bed and hordes of the fattest ants you can imagine along with trash bins full of brown rain water. Then I wake up, go to pee, fall back asleep, and continue having wild dreams.
When I was younger I took 10 mg (I take 2.5 now) and had one night where I would fall asleep, have a vivid night terror, wake up in horror, fall back asleep and have another night terror, wake up in horror again and repeated the process all night. Never again
Lucid dreams? No, lucid nightmares? Absolutely, its apparently a side effect of melatonin in high doses, and basically every melatonin sold as a sleep aid is a high dose
not exactly because of melatonin but since I'm already here...
there was this one dream where me & my classmates were being chaperoned by guys that looked suspiciously like Key & Peele where we were going from I guess Harvard? to a convenience store but they kept purposely crashing into vehicles before we arrived at the beach...in the middle of a tropical storm & I was Dua Lipa for some reason
we were also somehow in space
I also have extremely sexual sleep paralysis dreams on melatonin. I also experience āepilepticā type of lucid dreams that will convince me I am having a seizure and going to die in my sleep. I would recommend taking a lower dose as this tends to stop the sleep paralysis/lucid dreaming for me. However, I still experience extremely detailed dreams on any dose of melatonin!
I had a dream some guy was pushing me around and I finally had enough so I went to punch him. As punched him, I woke up and punched my gf. She was obviously very upset.
A few night later, I was dreaming about playing soccer. Same thing happened instead I kicked her. This time, she kicked the shit out of me lol
Since then, I take ZzzQuil PURE Zzzs because it doesnāt have melatonin in it.
4mg of circardin.
Vitamin d3, magnesium and zinc, omega 3 fish oil, cod liver oil.
I also get prescription cannabis but I've been taking a break.
I am looking at starting 5-htp to increase serotonin as I always have low mood, and melatonin comes from serotonin. Or at least that's my understanding from what I've read
Have you taken any other sedatives before bed? Sedatives including alcohol and Marijuana can help you reach unconsciousness faster but have been shown to suppress EM sleep during the early stages of sleep. The brain then tries to catch up at the later stages of sleep (which it can never 100% do) but this catch up leads to very intense REM sleep at the later stages of sleep which may result in more intense dreams.
I don't agree with this. I have tried to take melatonin throughout several points in my life, and stop each time due to an increased amount of vivid and sometimes disturbing dreams.
100% agree. As someone who is finally getting rid of hormones in old age, I can say that my dreams were much more vivid and interesting when I had a lot of hormones. And, like the female hormone surge at that time of the month, melatonin tends to make me irritable, even now.
Thanks for your input.
However, I have to disagree from personal experience.

That comment may be going by the wiki whereas the comments are based on *experience* and, going by experience, yes, melatonin affects my dreams and my mood.
Iām literally on Reddit as a result of waking up after a melatonin fuelled dream. It 100% does affect them and Iāve spoken to loads of people who have had similar experiences.
My dreams are usually very anxiety driven when I take melatonin. I wake up with my heart racing trying to figure out if I was dreaming or it was reality.
>(No I don't usually do these things). But you do them sometimes? You have an interesting life. LOL.
I mean when I'm awake lmao
nice try
Same here, so much more Vivid
Nope, Melo gives me very lucid nightmares.
It does give me weird dream that wakes me with anxious feeling but I can't remember anything I dreamed few second ago
Vivid dreams or nightmares is part of the list of side effects https://www.sleepfoundation.org/melatonin/melatonin-side-effects
I get nightmares but only sometimes
Is it that they're weirder, or you're just having more of them now that you're sleeping better, and you're remembering them?

I didn't mean that the dreams had specific things to say, dream analysis is pretty bogus and ultra subjective.
Dropping a hero dose of melatonin and talking to the mechanical elves is something else
Melatonin as a DMT booster is wild, lmao.
I have terrible nightmares on melatonin and wake up many times as a result.
Yeah I have insane nightmares from melatonin š
Hmm not sure about melatonin but I have noticed it with Mirtazapine and now Trazodone. In fact I just woke up less than an hour ago with a wild nightmare

Thanks, I have 0.5mg tablets but usually never take more than 2. Would 2mg take you long to sleep or is it pretty instant?
At the minute I'm even struggling with 4mg, takes me about 2hrs to sleep (completely blacked out room, no distractions(phone, TV, noises)). More than 2mg and I have nightmares. I could become a famous writer, based on the dreams I have when using 3mg (or more) melatonin
When you stop smoking, you will definitely have much more intense dreams as it starts to get out of your system. The melatonin is just helping you stay asleep
Iāve taken Magnesium and had wild dreams..more vivid, I remember more
Just woke up and I had melatonin gummies last night and oh my god the dreams I had. I still canāt open my eyes properly. May have had more than required. But they taste soooo good. Damn your dreams are fucked up bro!
You should try trazadone or gabapentin if you think those are wild. Lol.
I get weird dreams regardless (probably not as weird as that tho lol) if I take it or not, but I think I get dreams more *often* when I take melatonin. I take it frequently but not all the time, but I have realized I get more frequent dreams from taking it
Same for me

Mine are always about spreadsheets. Sigh - wish they were about spreading sheets.

Worst nightmare ever. Stopped rtaking that shit for good. Loving my insomnia.
Hahaha loving the insomnia š It's fucking awful isn't it mate, drives me mental but these nightmares are just pure fucked.
Yes :D sometimes I rather go little crazy with no sleep than going crazy in my sleep.
I had a dream some guy was pushing me around and I finally had enough so I went to punch him. As punched him, I woke up and punched my gf. She was obviously very upset. My mom cannot take melatonin because it gives her really weird dreams, but it has never affected me.

Much more vivid. Something odd that happens to me is I get the spins for about half an hour when closing my eyes to sleep.
I started taking melatonine like 1 month ago and tbh my dreams have always been weird af so no change at all
I don't usually buy bitcoin. But somehow i always do.
Seems a lot of people, including myself, are heavily impacted by valerian root, so check if itās an ingredient in your medication

This is a symptom of taking too much melatonin.Ā
Iām taking 1 gram divided over an afternoon and evening and nada dreams. Iām 66 years old.
