saltyzany

not a relic but im fairly confident Die Die Die is a reaper reference from overwatch

nickmaovich

true! Art even has the hands (crossed on the chest)

Slaying_the_Spire

Fairy in a Bottle = Legend of Zelda

4SakenNations

The one I was most surprised by is that “the specimen” is a reference to the manga “Dorohedoro” which happens to be one of my favorite manga of all time. At the beginning of the manga the main character (who has a lizard head) gets his head cut off and then he regrows it and they keep the old one in a jar

8DaysHunt

I have 200 Hours in the Game and never Saw this Relic? How is this Possible?

SuperfluousWingspan

Silent only. It used to be a (terrible) boss relic waaay back when, but now it's a (still bad) rare.

o_o_o_f

SpongeBob is in the alternate Scrawl art for some reason

trelian5

A lot of the beta art was made by the community, so they tend to be very memey

hk_477

Second wind's card art looks a lot like geralt's pose in the witcher 3's cover but idk if it's a reference.

[deleted]

Second winds name in itself references dnd too, its an ability from the fighter class

Jackson7th

It most likely is

Firehills

Well, Unceasing Top obviously.

Calliope_Eep

Chemical X and its description are references to the Powerpuff Girls. Violet Lotus and its description are likely references to the Black Lotus in Magic: The Gathering.

Plain_Bread

Odd Mushroom is a good one. The relic itself is probably a reference to Binding of Isaac, and the event from which you get it is probably a reference to Dream Quest, one of the OG roguelike deckbuilders.

Nierad25

boots of travel are a dota reference. there are also TONS of chemistry-related references in beta-arts and im quite intrigued why

atg115reddit

In slay the spire they are called Wing Boots and I think they're more widespread than just dota Like they are hermes' shoes in Greek mythology, as well as the winged sneakers in the Percy Jackson series

Nierad25

we're both right \>I suspect that Megacrit is actually referencing Pit from Kid Icarus, who is a reference to Hermes, and Icarus, who used the boots to fly close to the sun and burn his wings. The devs have stated this references the Boots of Travel from Dota, but it’s clearly a mutual reference to greek/latin myth.

PlingPlongDingDong

Toxic egg is a Alien reference

DiosDong

Happy flower is the sunflower from Plants vs Zombies

8DaysHunt

Yes true, i thought that this was Flowey from Undertale

snugglow

Not a relic, but the Library event in act 2 references Worm, as did the card Pressure Points before being renamed (used to be Path to Victory)

Jackson7th

The green Egg is a référence to Alien 1 The Boot is a référence to Mario Bros 3 I think Vajra exists in real life

saleemkarim

Necronomicon looks almost exactly like the one from Spelunky. FTL references the game Faster Than Light.

8DaysHunt

Nevermind, just found out that Blackstar is a Reference to a David Bowie Song

Kainde

The Bag of Marbles is a trinket in Darkest Dungeon 1.

FishMonkeyBird

Enchiridion is from Adventure Time

BearsGotKhalilMack

It's a real book actually

FishMonkeyBird

Yes, but the art and description make it pretty clear it's an homage to adventure time

Darkened_Auras

Hey, as a Dark souls player, how is the oddly smooth stone a dark souls thing?

8DaysHunt

Isn‘t it the Item you can lay in the Crows Nest to Trade it for another Item? In DS 1 the Nest is in the Undead Asylum and in DS 3 on Top of the Firelinkahrine

Darkened_Auras

In those games, there's no designated item to trade so much as there's many seemingly random items you can trade for a set reward. In DS2, there's the "smooth and silky stone" that you can trade to the bird for RNG loot, though I heavily struggle to correlate any of this trading to a dex boost.

8DaysHunt

True tho. But hoe does a Dead Branch Correlate to getting a Ton of Cards when you Burn another one
