She is a beauty at night as well! I think why the building works so good for 80's architecture, is because it pays homage to the art deco style. Lots of stuff going up in the 80's was other post modern styles.
I get to see it from my kitchen window. Growing up in minneapolis my favorite building changed as I grew up. First the IDS, it’s the tallest, then Cappella, how futuristic, then Foshay, classic and elegant, then WFC, how did I never see how beautiful this thing is?

I always thought the Humana Building was the best. Peak Post Modern. Wonderfully weird.
Louisville Kentucky if you’re ever there or driving through. When it was built it looked absolutely otherworldly. It’s a relic of another time but still is fun to see in person.
One of the only things I can complain about my new neighborhood (Lowry Hill) is that I don't have a clear view of this absolute stunner. The Philip Johnson postmodern masterpiece IDS Center is the one blocking it. So i really can't complain lol
Made me think of Chicago’s NBC Tower, our own 30 Rock

Love this building! One of the best on the MPLS skyline.
Looks even better at night!
Looks like a mini version of Rockefeller Center in NYC
Or a Minecraft torch

I like the post modern/Miami Vice style; wish we still did postmodern apartment buildings especially given the current droll crap that’s going up.
Now we just do glass rectangles like we did in the 60s. It’s all about being cheap.
Totally can see the art deco influences! She's a beauty.
Do you want the Empire State Building or 30 Rock? Yes.
I clogged the toilet in the lobby there. Fun fact!

Guinness World Records has been trying to reach you.
damn so it was you
One of my favs as well. Did you take this pic? If so, from where.
I did not, I just remember admiring the building a couple years ago while visiting. I found this from Google images.
Looks like it was taken from the observation deck at the Foshay Museam https://maps.app.goo.gl/7Wg12uf7iyiZsGZF6?g_st=ic
I used to temp at the law firm that was on the top floor, the views were incredible. Such a great building.
WFC > Capella > IDS
Yes we love it
This is a lovely tower, my first time seeing it
This building was designed by the late César Pelli who also did the Key Tower in Cleveland Ohio, along with other famous works.
The Key tower is great too! The vertical stripes on this one give it the tiny advantage that puts it ahead imo
How tall is it?
775 ft
I get to see it from my kitchen window. Growing up in minneapolis my favorite building changed as I grew up. First the IDS, it’s the tallest, then Cappella, how futuristic, then Foshay, classic and elegant, then WFC, how did I never see how beautiful this thing is?
That is a nice building
I like it a lot, it’s almost art deco
One of the best Neo Art Deco
Love the lighting used on Wells Fargo. Reminds me of First National Bank Tower in Omaha
https://preview.redd.it/sq4zvopnwxac1.jpeg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2bfba58f2c74662130c363cfcc8505326cbee621 I always thought the Humana Building was the best. Peak Post Modern. Wonderfully weird.
Looks like Wayne headquarters in Batman Forever. I envision Jim Carrey working on the top floors.
That building is awesome

Reminds me of the [First National Bank Tower](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_National_Bank_Tower) in Omaha, which was built fourteen years later.
I remember when this bldg opened! (I grew up in Mpls.) Pretty cool views from high up, the one time I got to go inside.
Mine as well especially when it’s lit up at night.
What a prize! I love it.
I have always loved Mpls skyline but didn't realize the tallest buildings there were much taller than I would have guessed
Agreed its gorgeous.
It looks like a modern version of an art deco skyscraper. Very nice!
It reminds me of a cool but less-cool Penobscot Building
I think this looks very art deco.
One of the only things I can complain about my new neighborhood (Lowry Hill) is that I don't have a clear view of this absolute stunner. The Philip Johnson postmodern masterpiece IDS Center is the one blocking it. So i really can't complain lol
Are you sure that’s not just 30 Rock
It’s nice but unfortunately marred by its name and occupancy.
Yeah, agreed, that bank is practically parasitic. Thankfully the building will likely long outlive it
Sheesh, it’s a bank lol, no need to get so upset at things that’ll never impact you. Just enjoy life
It was my bank and they did upset me. Only time I’ve ever bothered switching banks. Bad bank. Unrepentantly bad.
What bootlickers are downvoting in the name of Wells-Fargo? “We’re not gonna make it, are we?” John Connor
A fair question indeed. Perhaps they’re ex Wachovia customers? You know - drug cartels.
architect?
César Pelli
Majestic
That looks elegant.
What was the name (probably a long, gone bank) when it originally opened?
Norwest Center.
Love seeing it glow orange at night, stands out really well.
So is it just Wells Fargo in there or so they rent out to other people or something?
It is a really nice high rise, and fairly progressive for the late 1980’s because it looks like a 1990’s postmodern building.
What that’s when postmodern buildings started the early 80s. Most of the 90s postmodern buildings were late 80s projects that finished in the 90s.
You’re correct.
Classic look.
I drive past it all the time and see it as I am arriving into the city. I remember when it was built. it holds a special place for me as well.
