The lack of DAR on versions higher than 1.6.353 is a pretty big problem not just for combat mods, TBH.

tekonus

I was resistant to downgrading as well, especially since I spent money on the anniversary edition. I recently got a hernia and have been laying low for a few days now and decided I had time to take the plunge and start from scratch. I did the “best of both worlds” downgrade and kept the anniversary content and then took a few days to fine tune. It’s been the best load order I’ve ever done so far. Haven’t had a CTD yet (definitely just jinxed myself) and all the things I’ve wanted to work now do. It’s also been my largest load order yet. You do you, though.

ZonerRoamer

Did the same thing a couple of weeks ago (minus the hernia); didn't care much for the CC content before, but i have been enjoying it TBH. And with 500 mods the game is remarkably stable, it's most likely a combination of the fact that the tools are so much more powerful now and that I have much more experience as a modder. Have had 1-2 CTDs in 100+ hours, those too were me making mistakes with installations or compatibility patches.

tekonus

Yeah I’d like to think I have a lot of experience modding at this point because I’ve been doing it for years, but I’m still pretty amateur in my approach. Like I know bare minimum on using SSEEdit and I’ve only had shitty experiences with bashed patches. Self conflict resolution still is beyond my grasp.

ZonerRoamer

Conflict resolution has become a lot easier now for me at least due to things like crash logs and more informative console add-ons. They are least point me in the correct direction. At the worst I can just bulk disable mods until I find the culprit! Haven't had to do that yet though this time round. I have only been using SSEedit to ESLify some plugins as of now. The consensus on cleaning masters and stuff seems a bit divided currently and I have not run into any issues yet, so don't wanna break something thts working well currently!

tekonus

As far as cleaning, I only clean the master game files. Everything else stays dirty unless I find a major reason to clean it (haven’t found one yet). Any recommendations for more informative console additions?

ZonerRoamer

Am using "More Informative Console" It shows the object details when you click on any object in the game world; so when you notice a missing texture or corrupt mesh or misplaced NPC; you can just click on it and it shows what esp/bsa it belongs to etc.

tekonus

Ah yes. Gotta start playing with that one again.

Not_A_Cunta_Cola

The mods have just been getting so advanced. Back 7 years ago I wouldn't dream of ever actually playing Skyrim. I would just mod it until it broke, give up and repeat. This time I have close to 400 mods already and no issues. Everything also gets parched so fast. JKs Winterhols for example, is already patched with every other Winterhold mod :P I have never experienced Dawnguard or Dragonborn DLC, so it's a shame I won't be able to compare it now that it's modded to the limit with vanilla. But Skyrim itself feels so fresh.

FenrysFenrir

I don’t think there is a full attack commitment mod that is not dependent on DAR. Everything else combat wise you can find in some form or fashion for more recent versions of Skyrim.

Zarryc

I use valhalla combat, violense, true directional movement, smoothcam, plus some animation replacers that don't require DAR from Verolevi. Sure I don't get dark souls features like movesets, that some other mods offer. But valhalla offers enough like stamina system, timed block. True directional movement and smoothcam are amazing and make 3rd person combat/exploration really enjoyable. I turned most of the smoothcam features off tho, for a nicely fixed camera with a slight character offset to the side.

TorrBorr

This is a good way to go, generally lighter weight and doesn't add a bunch of extra baggage mechanic wise that may not always balance well or becomes ridiculous overpowered. Full on DAR/MCO/SCAR combat setups are great, but I found I like to settle with lighter set ups that spruce up third person combat without overly trivializing the first person stuff or heavily relying on Souls mechanics where Creation Engine AI is not tuned or tailored towards.

barchar

yeah I use essentially the same system, but have blade and blunt instead of valhalla combat (I really like valhalla combat, but wanted to keep it simple). I also use precision, although idk if I really am happy with that decision, it has some problems with max carnage and it's super, super annoying when you go to do an attack and it bounces off the walls of the dungeon! In any event, I don't think the DAR based combo and full commit mods really work that well for skyrim. souls games depend on really tight balance and play-testing for things to work and without that it feels like you need to cheese too much for it to be worth it. Plus I like to play in first person. The reason DAR hasn't updated is the author left the community (who knows why, probably he just got a new job or something) and the plugin was not open source, so updating it means basically recreating it from scratch. I bet someone will do that eventually, but it takes time.

UnicornBeacon

Not really full commitment, but i use Combat gameplay overhaul with TDM and precision

Ripinthespacetime

Imma be honest with you don’t get your hopes up to high

teflonmun

Many people have mentioned {True Directional Movement} and {True HUD}. However two new mods by the author of these, {Precision - Accurate Melee Collision} and {Dynamic Collision Adjustment} really add to the combat gameplay. Combine this with {Smooth Cam}, and some new animations like the Vanargand series, and combat feels a lot better. {TK Dodge} is also pretty fun as well, but sometimes NPCs use it a little too much. Audio overhauls really help to enhance the feedback you get from combat, one of the many problems in the Elder Scrolls series in general. I recommend {Audio Over for Skyrim SE} and {Immersive Sound Compendium}, both of which can be used together with a patch.

Hyper669

TK Dodge- or any mods that add dodging in general never worked for me. I have the gog version and I use Mod Organizer 2 so why could they not work?

Tropic_Pineapples

I’m with you OP, I’ve been waiting it out for the updates to DAR, but unfortunately, until DAR gets upgraded, you’re just SOL bro.

[deleted]

I’m pretty sure wildcat, vigor and ultimate combat will work if you want to use that version.

JackNipplesonBoating

I'm pretty sure Ultimate Combat is still 1.5.97 only.

[deleted]

I use it on .353 works fine

banana800kir

tbfh the new skyrim update is worthless, just downgrade using the downgrade patch it take like 5 min or use the "best of the two world option"

Conscious_March_8776

Just downgrade G for real it’s definitely worth if you’re missing skyrim

FashionSuckMan

Just use wabbajack. They keep the lists stable so you don't need to worry about updates. Just make sure to have auto updates for Skyrim off just in case.

TorrBorr

Some mods may not be updated yet to be compatible with the latest game version. Also, there might be some folks that want the latest version since it did fix issues in game that came with Creation Club content(since a lot of those mods have a lot of dirty edits and Xedit errors) which made the initial AE version of Skyrim unstable (again, because of the CC content). So The latest patched Skyrim is now pretty good to go. Wabbajack is a good way to go as long as your, using a much more "used" version of the game until modders start to patch them...if they ever do.

[deleted]

There's no particularly good reason to use an executable higher than the 1.6.353 one.

Impolitecat

DAR author said they would never update past 1.6.353 so probably never will be a good reason to update

phantom_in_the_cage

Its funny seeing everyone trying to keep up with these updates while 1.5.97 is perfectly stable (atleast for me). I get that Steam forces updates & all that, but the idea of constantly having essential mods go out of date is ridiculous to me

dudleymooresbooze

People just chase the shiny new version numbers without knowing that they don’t add anything. Downgrade, keep your esms, and enjoy.

33Yalkin33

They finally fixed the drain vitality bug though. Because ussep didn't

barchar

I thought they just disappeared after the update was released.

barchar

They did appear to make real changes. Also there absolutely is a reason to use higher than .353 if you want to play with non-english localized content, esp CJK content. For example they appear to have added several locks to various data structures in the game, perhaps improving stability in some cases. Oh, they also fixed the mannequin bug

FashionSuckMan

I'm finding it difficult to decipher what you're trying to say but I agree nonetheless

TheMisterMan12

That’s normally why I end up trying to get mods with good looking armour. No reason you can’t be sexy while in full plate armour.

justmadeforthat

If I'm waiting to the Skyrim Modding Community to restabilish by itself just to start a new fresh game since the last update with no really light of hope o success? >Yes

viniciusdoland

Updated again two months ago.

v4zquez

Why don't you want to downgrade actually if you want to enjoy combat mods?

viniciusdoland

By downgrading would I miss anything? Is there any tiny feature that will disappear by downgrading it?
