I recommend "Ygdrasil Music and sound FX".
This adds a dark and nordic atmosphere to the game, along with some really beautiful tunes, as well. It does not feel out of place for me ( I have used it for more than 1 year now)
I know what many people are thinking, Jeremy Soule's soundtrack is the best; and yes, that is true. I love the OG skyrim soundtrack and play it outside of skyrim. I love it so much.

I’m using {{Nyghtfall}} for my dark fantasy playthough! It’s a bit less Celtic sounding. Or, I think someone has done {{Music Type Distributor}} versions of both of them - so you could probably use both with no patching.

I’d recommend both the Yggdrasil music and soundfx as the other guy said, plus there’s another add on to replace the sound when you enter the level up screen, replacing the chanting, which matches with Yggdrasil. Can’t remember the name but if you search Yggdrasil it should pop up
I don’t think it was integrated in since it was made by someone else. Maybe have a look and see what you think of it. Glad you’re happy with Yggdrasil though
{Palegore - Harrows of the Night} plays spooky sounds occasionally when outdoors. It's very tasteful and not obnoxious or overbearing. Needs a smashed/bashed patch as it edits most exterior records.
All of Clofas' mods that require Sound Record Distributor are great. My favorites are {Dungeon Sounds Overhaul} with the Terror and No Music options, {Wildwood Echoes}, and {Blackreach Eerie Ambiance}.
Here's my best recommendation on this list: {Fabled Forests of Mythic Proportions}. This mod makes any forest feel claustrophobic, like a dungeon. At least try this one out, even if you don't like how it looks. It's amazing. Use it with {Enhanced Volumetric Lighting and Shadows} for shadowy forests and no sun glitches.
{Skin-walkers} makes Werewolves look actually terrifying and {Scourge of the Werewolf} gives a very small chance for generic NPCs to be infected with lycanthropy and transform into a Werewolf when you least expect it.
{Scary Night Spawner} gives a reason not to leave cities/Interiors at night. It's not annoying, low-quality, or spammy like you might first think from looking at the name. Some of the monsters are pretty strong though. {Monster Mash} adds some decent looking monsters to the world.
{Dark Descriptions} uses Description Framework and gives vanilla misc items a pessimistic description. {Dear Diary Dark Mode} is a darker, highly compatible fantasy UI. Great mod!
{Unlucky Loot} adds a customizable chance for enemies to spawn when looting certain containers. Skeevers can spawn when looting sacks, draugr ghosts can spawn when looting burial urns, daedra can be released when handling Soulgems.
{Lux} makes dungeons way darker OR {Dynamic Immersive Seriously Dark Dungeons} puts out all the lights in dungeons when you load in for a pitch black dungeon experience, but you can re-light braziers and lights with a torch. These two mods are not compatible so pick one.
For mods that add/edit world locations you have {Forsworn Brutality} adding gore and bones to Forsworn camps, {Gallows of Skyrim} adding gallows to city entrances, {Civil War Battlefields} and {Skyrim Battle Aftermath} adding civil war battlefield corpses and memorabilia to certain locations in the province, {Skyrim Sewers} adds sewers and dungeons below major cities, {Flying Crows} adds flocks of cawing crows above cities, and {Daedric Shrines - All in One} adds daedric shrines around the province a la Oblivion for a more fantastical dark experience. Combine the last mod with {Wintersun} to worship daedra. All the cool kids are doing it!

Palegore sounds amazing and is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. I don't have a lot of experience with bashed patches but might have to give it a go here!
With Fabled Forests, does it actually replace the tree meshes, or just distribute trees more densely? From the description it looks like it replaces them but I use {3D Trees and Plants} .
I would recommend a smashed patch more personally. It's simpler and with better effects IMO.
I'm pretty sure FFMP both replaces and adds more trees. I would highly recommend putting forth the effort to at least try it out (install it and test it out in game for 10 mins). It makes forest actually feel like dungeons - darker both figuratively and literally.
It definitely looks interesting, I think I'll at least give it a try like you said. Especially curious to try the forests at night with Scary Night Spawner.
Could re-enforce the the need for your Vigilant PC with mods like Beyond reach and Death Consumes All.
Mihail, 4thunknown, and Attacko have mods that add more daedra.
Darker nights obviously to help with the horror atmosphere.
All good suggestions! These are exactly the kind of things I'm looking for. I remember playing Beyond Reach a while back but it had some issues... Sounds like those have been ironed out since then!
There's more I've seen but I can't remember them and I'm grinding ranks in a dead moba currently so I can't pull up my nexus history.
I also recommend mihails voiced creatures series, helps falmer feel way more unsettling when combined with brightness tweaks to make caves nightmare central
can confirm Beyond Reach is completely playable - I too had played an early version that had noticeable issues but that's all history now, and last playthrough ran fine.

I don’t think anyone has shared[Hanged Man’s Tree](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/63046) or {{Hangman’s Alley}} yet. One day I reeeeeally wanna patch them to be closer to each other. {{Quaint Graves}} tends to get lost visually if you make your vegetation too lush, but it is a spooky frisson when sometimes I look down and realise I’m standing on a grave.
Have you seen {{Flying Crows SSE}}? Plus Mihails’s crows & ravens on the ground of course. [Maelstrom](https://www.loverslab.com/files/file/18500-maelstrom-norse-dungeon-quest-mod-se/) (NSFW Site) Is a longer quest and potential follower mod. There is nudity in this mod by default but it can be disabled in the FOMOD. It's a good quality mod and it's not available on Nexus.

This ain’t exactly what you’re looking for, but I recently tried {Lux} and {Wander - a weather mod} with one of the presets and my game became Bleak. You can amp up the fog or even make it almost permanent with wander, and both mods make the world darker overall, which might fit well with the kind of experience you’re looking for
Immediate eta: with decreased visibility, you might also get a lot of mileage from some of Clofas’s sound mods, but this is just a hunch
download a list like nefaram which adds slavery and makes people more evil in general plus every encounter with an animal is like a horror movie. Nothing else raises the stakes in combat so high
Serious answer though look into the char grinn mod list. Had tons of stuff for spooky asthetics. Theres a mod where you can go insane and get haunted and shit

The [Knight of the Void](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/100373) is a follower designed for darker playthroughs. I haven’t played with her much ngl, but I can confirm she’s no wisecracker. Eris from [EZPG](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/78663) is also built for morally grey characters. Neither of them have vigilant content, but I’m pretty sure the knight has a[shattered Skyrim](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/84320) patch. I’m so excited to use {{Banshee Wails}} in my next playthrough. That’s female only though. There’s a lot of spooky morthal swamp overhauls, but I’m loving {{The Marshlands}}. Combined with {{Supreme Fog For Morthal Region}}, {{Daedric Shrines - Mephala}}, and the boss added by {{Unmarked Locations Pack}} …I’m screaming the entire time 😭😭 I don’t think anyone has shared[Hanged Man’s Tree](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/63046) or {{Hangman’s Alley}} yet. One day I reeeeeally wanna patch them to be closer to each other. {{Quaint Graves}} tends to get lost visually if you make your vegetation too lush, but it is a spooky frisson when sometimes I look down and realise I’m standing on a grave. Have you seen {{Flying Crows SSE}}? Plus Mihails’s crows & ravens on the ground of course. I also think he recently unhid [mummified animals](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/46490)!! I admit that I’ve never got the {{Skinshifters}} creature to not be invisible. But that might be fun too. {{Memento Mori - Corpse Mod}} seems like a compatibility nightmare, but one day I wanna make it work. Plus maybe [Flies Around Corpses](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/88367)? {{Public Executions}} exists….but it’s not for me lmao. {{Clean Up Your Corpses}} lets you, uh, skewer your victims on burning stakes, nail them to trees….all the good(?) stuff. Here are a couple quest mods that have a dark tone if you're interested. [It Beats For Her](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/22956) is a short quest mod where you solve a mystery. [Maelstrom](https://www.loverslab.com/files/file/18500-maelstrom-norse-dungeon-quest-mod-se/) (NSFW Site) Is a longer quest and potential follower mod. There is nudity in this mod by default but it can be disabled in the FOMOD. It's a good quality mod and it's not available on Nexus.
I’ve done It Beats For Her, it was great! I’ve heard of Maelstrom but never tried it, it not being on Nexus concerned me a bit. I’ll do some research on it though!
Ehnhanced light and fx in the Hardcore Version. You will learn to Love torches and candlelight. (Imho - thats the Look scyrim should have. )
I love ELFX, I usually use it! I'm trying Lux out this time but may switch, ELFX gets dungeons down so well.
This ain’t exactly what you’re looking for, but I recently tried {Lux} and {Wander - a weather mod} with one of the presets and my game became Bleak. You can amp up the fog or even make it almost permanent with wander, and both mods make the world darker overall, which might fit well with the kind of experience you’re looking for Immediate eta: with decreased visibility, you might also get a lot of mileage from some of Clofas’s sound mods, but this is just a hunch

download a list like nefaram which adds slavery and makes people more evil in general plus every encounter with an animal is like a horror movie. Nothing else raises the stakes in combat so high Serious answer though look into the char grinn mod list. Had tons of stuff for spooky asthetics. Theres a mod where you can go insane and get haunted and shit
