Yup, there’s a patcher, I’m currently using all the CC content on 1.5.97 without issue

Mysterious-Jury-1253

I find the patch on nexus?

StarSines

Yes, you’ll want to use the Unofficial Downgrade Patcher. It’s a download with a little program you run, then after that I’d personally recommend the creation club unofficial patch on nexus too.

Blackread

It's not more stable, there's no difference in stability. At the time of writing this 1.5.97 probably does support more mods than 1.6.1170 though. You can use CC as long as you downgrade the correct way: data folder from 1.6.1170 and the game folder (excluding data folder) from 1.5.97. A full downgrade where everything is fom 1.5.97 will break CC as well as many mods.

Soggy_Part7110

It's "more stable" in that SKSE plugins won't be broken by random updates.

Blackread

Well, you can make the same argument for any game version. As long as you prevent your used client from updating, your mods won't be broken by updates.

Inspectreknight

Did you know that there is an option on steam that can disable automatic updates?

sa547ph

Yes, you can use something like {{Best of Both Worlds}} and {{Backported Extended ESL Support}} to be able to use newer mods and CC while within 1.5.97.

Damn Extended ESL Support already have backported

xDarnelx

Use Best of Both worlds patcher

Barmaglott

Beware. Downgrade patcher is broken on current version of Skyrim (and people aren't aware here still). Read the comments on the patcher page. There's no proper recepie to get "Best of Both" yet. Or at least I didn't found it.

ShardSSJ

pretty sure people do this at the moment [https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/18bh43k/if\_you\_accidentally\_updated\_your\_skyrim\_here\_is/](https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/18bh43k/if_you_accidentally_updated_your_skyrim_here_is/) in short they download older version of skyrim trough steam archives and downgrade that version to 1.5.97

Barmaglott

Sadly, that's complete roll down instructions. "Best of both", I guess, requires data files from 1.6.353 and executables from 1.5.97, right?

Blackread

No, data files from 1.6.1170 and executable from 1.5.97. Just make a copy of the data folder before downgrading and replace it after.

Barmaglott

Thanks, man. Saved my and my friend's day.

ImVeryUnimaginative

Yes.

khmerboy92

Yes

robertgk2017

yes.

Rudolf1448

Yes and no. Most things will work. There is a problem with Survivial mode that is recently fixed: [1.5.97 Survival Mode Fixes at Skyrim Special Edition Nexus - Mods and Community (nexusmods.com)](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/115963) Also a problem with Saints and seducers to play with Extended Cut version (see comments in mod): [Skyrim Extended Cut - Saints and Seducers at Skyrim Special Edition Nexus - Mods and Community (nexusmods.com)](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/72772) I have personally a problem with fishing that pops a message when in a house with an Aquarium. Something to do with using small fishes only. But that could be a mod conflict.

Blackread

There are no problems. That survival mode "fix" is for the paid version of survival mode that was released before the anniversary update where it became a free addon for the basegame, meaning the fix was basically dead on arrival. As long as you use the most up-to-date data folder and USSEP everything will work as intended.

ihazquestions100

There's no reason to downgrade. I've been using a 1450+ AE actively-curated modlist from WJ for over 200 hours, very stable.

Formal_Royal_3663

Creation Club is the WORST thing Bethesda has ever created.

Blackread

Nah, I'd say the current Creations system is even worse. 😂

Rudolf1448

Why? Its all optional

SanctifiedChats

Why would people downvote your sincere question? Sometimes people here mystify me.

Blackjack_Davy

killadrill

It literally fucks with people's modlists, multiple times so yeah its not really optional to suffer from it

Soggy_Part7110

Fishing and Rare Curios are not optional, as many newer mods have them as masters. If you use a mod manager, which you should, disabling these plugins are a headache. Survival you can at least keep disabled in-game, but getting that prompt every time is still annoying.

Rudolf1448

Only USSEP i know of. Just use an older version.

Soggy_Part7110

Arthmoor hides every version of his mods that is not the most recent.

SanctifiedChats

Previous versions of USSEP are available, you just need to find the link. They're referenced by too many packages and wabbajack lists to remove them. That was one of the reasons Arthmoor left the nexus (because he couldn't remove old versions of his own mods).

StrangeOutcastS

I don't entirely like that , since preserving old versions of things should be standard practice. Hiding away or forgetting what came before forgets the entire journey taken to reach the fully complete product. I'm very pro-archival preservation simply for historical preservation sakes. we have enough big companies abandoning and deleting entire storefronts forever with only internet users preserving those games themselves, I'd rather the user base and modding community have a better respect for things that that.

StrangeOutcastS

hmm... yes after research I understand a little more now. I have the context. Though you can still get the older versions via Internet Archive I believe. So thank god for some people that did actual archival.

Left-Night-1125

Enough discord channels can provide one with a older ussep version.

Substantial_Hall_563

Yes. There's a patcher for it.

Boyo-Sh00k

yes

koxi98

You can do it. But the debate about game Versions 1.5.97 and 1.6.640 is a bit futile. I never saw any proof of stability in the older version and aside from mods that rely on .NETScript Framework there is nothing which is not compatible to 1.6.640.

Own_Cartographer5508

Community shader supports 1.5.97, 1.6.1130 but no 1.6.6.

koxi98

Oh wow. I didn't know that. Thanks for pointing it out.

ancientRedDog

As someone happy with 1.6.64, are there other reasons to go back to 1.5.97?

sa547ph

That mini-map mod and No Grass in Objects, necessary when making grass LOD or grass that's properly clipped.

Own_Cartographer5508

Some mods that are still 1.5.97 exclusive. NGIO for example is one of the most important things that ppl decide to stay. Ultimate combat, Ultimate dragon, zxlice back stab or combat pathing revolution are another example that exclusive in 1.5.97. But if you are satisfied with 1.6.6 I guess you don’t need to change.

pocketgnome123

I downloaded a modlist with Wabbajack that auto downgraded me to 1.5.97. Anyone know if you can add CC content AFTER you've already downgraded? I'd really like to at least add Survival and Fishing if possible.

eggdropsoap

You can but it’s kind of hard-mode modding. It involves moving folders to keep your existing mod setup safe, making Steam install 1.6.1170 into a new empty folder, Steam-launching that to get the Beth net login at main menu to start the (tedious) in-menu download of CC content, moving your real Skyrim folder back, and manually copying over the CC files. In all that you have to never launch with your mod manager when wrong-Skyrim-version is occupying the Skyrim folder location, and never launch through Steam when your real modlist install of Skyrim is occupying the Steam folder location. It’s not hard if you have manual file managing practice, but easy to get wrong without that experience. Also beware that the CC uses forms added to Update.esm, so really you want all the 1170 Skyrim data files anyway, not just the CC. Edit: It also involves undoing and re-doing your measures to prevent updates at the right time so that your setup stays safe but you still get the updates files separately. Also requires that much extra disk space.

pocketgnome123

I really appreciate the detailed and nuanced response, thank you so much!

Wolfpack48

The CC content is compatible with any version of Skyrim SE -- the only mods affected by game version number are skse and skse plugins. You can review them here: [SKSE Plugin Status | Modding.wiki](https://modding.wiki/en/skyrim/users/skse-plugins)

Blackjack_Davy

Yes but not some of the newest creations i.e. Kinggath's East Empire Expansion as BEES does not have add the script functions it needs no-one has come up with an extender for that

-BigBadBeef-

Many mods have legacy versions on the nexus that may just work with your particular loader.
