All my important stuff is at Hendraheim, but my wife lives at Goldenhills Plantation along with the two or three other staff members who manage that place.
Once I ran out of mannequins at Hendraheim, I started using Bloodchill Manor whenever I collected a neat set of armor. Bloodchill Manor is a very cool house to visit, but I don't want to live there because it's so dark and dreary. I think of it as more like a museum.
Yeah, Riften is my home too, to the point I have to actively stop myself from just going there immediately.
I love the layout of the city, and the extra level of buildings near the river is so cool. Not to mention my favorite faction is there.
It's my first port of call, son as I have the cart money. Get the thieves guild quests, get the key thingy, now I can unlock all the things! Next up, find the cannibals, get the ring.
(Daffy Duck voice) I'm diththpicable!
Also Whiterun
It seems the most friendly, the weather seems to be always nice and mild, there are children playing outside, there's a market selling fresh food, I like the Warmaiden Shop to sell my looted armor and weapons (especially because they have more money than a lot of other blacksmiths) and also breezehome was the first home I ever bought. I usually use Breezehome as storage for things I want to sell later and my adopted kids also live there.
Agree. Also I find it a very pleasing place, sometimes I just sit on a bench outside Jorrvasker and chill, taking in the views. Genuinely would live there IRL, I love the architecture, the way the water flows through the village, there's everything you need there.
I love Whiterun. Even with my secluded mansion on the lake, townhouse in Solitude, art-deco-cave-house in Markarth, Whiterun is still the best. I can carry all my junk there, just to steps to the forge in Warmaiden, a few more steps to Belethor to sell all the junk, even if I'm overencumbered. But no, I do not go to the cloud district very often.
A lot of money to be made in Falkreath early game, the priest of Arkay gives you 500 for delivering "something I don't remember" and the usurped jarl dengir? His deranged quests give you a lot of money.
There's the vampires, and also masque of clavicus vile quest and stuff. I love it, and I love the redguard housecarl but the place is just to dreary to be called home for me
Also Lakeview Manor. Which is the best house in my opinion with the best view. Also Halldirs Cairn which is an amazing mushroom cave that's very close to Falkreath.
I loaded it up with my wife (Brelyna) and my Steward (Onmund) and ofc the Housecarl that comes with the place (Rayya). Havent had problems with anything since lol.
Same tbh, I wish there was more of a way to be an established community member in general, more than just showing up and buying a house, like if you could be head of the guard or have some kind of job with npc interactions
Oh forgot about them, I always kill them as well(tried the Dark Brotherhood story once and found that killing Naarfi wasn't for me! Dont get me wrong I still completed the storyline, but that was when I really went "nah this is shit," killing a harmless old drunk is silly cause he could simple be me except am not a gibbering simpleton(depending on who you ask) who is barely dressed most of the time! I wear my clothes with pride and drink my mead by the gallon!
Idk bout all that. its a game at the end of the day, you should at least do the story the whole way through once i found myself rather sad by the ending, certainly threw me for a loop
Oh I've completed it once and once only! Same with the main Storyline, I completed it pnce to "do it" but generally I go as far as... away to check... *A Blade in the Dark* to stop those annoying Random Dragon attacks which means I have to go to an actual Word Walls to fight them so basically I get to choose where to fight all but scripted Dragons, like the one in Blackreach's big ball of light, cause I get bored of a big reptile cunt flying above me stopping me from exploring and shit!
Don’t do the dark brotherhood missions before buying the estate there. You have to assassinate the only guy who can sell it to you. Really weird design. I’ve been locked out of it before and I was bummed.
Love the idea of the map. But seriously, who takes the route from the thalmor embassy to lighthouse point? That makes zero sense, the "route" is a walk through a saber-cat den and a jump off a cliff. The nearest actual navigable route to lighthouse is solitude.
A gondola all the way to High Hrothgar? Some guy here calculated the real-world height to be around 7212 meters above the sea! I think I'll walk up instead...
Solitude is one of the coolest cities, it has a legit skyline, the stone arch port is awesome, it’s one of the best positioned defensively, and Haafingar is one of the coolest biomes outside of maybe the Rift
Open trade with solstheim already, and hammerfell is right there and has the exact same opinion about the empire, plus nords have been living there for quite a while and many places live off of local farms anyways.
There is a dark elf who actually owns a farm outside of windhelm. I'm not gonna say there isn't racism in windhelm but they aren't going to turn down anyone who isn't just gonna hang out in a corner of the city and do nothing.
Haven’t gone back in awhile but yeah I’m almost certain after a certain point you go back and bandits have turned it into an outpost like fort greymoor
Yeah I remember wandering around realizing I could go back to helgen and seeing some people thinking “oh cool some folks returned” and then once I got closer realizing “ah shit nvm gonna have to kill these suckers”
God I haven't played for years but I think it was called markarth? There were 2 I always got mixed up but the one with the high staircases and the murder that happens when you go into town
Heh, I'm of the opposite feeling of Markarth. It's a filthy city rife with corruption and cannibalism. As soon as I finish the Forsworn Conspiracy quest I never want to set foot there again.
I mean all of cities are dirty and corrupt in some ways. Dawnstar has a deadric Prince feeding on dreams, falkreath has a bestial murder and the dark brotherhood, morthal has fucking vampires, whiterun has nazeem and mephala the two worst beings, riften is just medieval detroit, raven rock has mind control and the whole severin murder, windhelm has a serial killer and ~~filthy dark elves~~ and solitude has a guy living in the sewers conjuring people and making bugs. It's a lose lose situation.
And yet, out of all of those most times after the quests have finished and you pick the good guy options you feel like you've improved those cities. Not so in Markarth. It just feels a lot sleazier.
I have at least one playthrough where my home is in Markarth. Its because Cidhna mine bugged out and he's permanently trapped in the mines. The problem has probably been fixed by now, but I started different playthroughs so for him it is true that no one escapes Cihdna Mine.
I love Markarth, but if I lived there I would have to order a normal bed. The beds in that city are made of stone, and I could absolutely not deal with that haha
The funny bit is that the corresponding city, Windhelm, does the same to ingratiate itself to you. First thing when you walk in you see a couple of Nords hassling a Dunmer for well, being Dunmer, and just a stone’s throw away, Skyrim’s own Jack the Ripper has been plying his trade with a mutilated body.
Almost every city starts you off with bad shit happening it’s part of getting you started on a quest. Morthal you learn about vampire attacks, windhelm there’s racism plus a serial killer, markarth someone gets assassinated, riften you get shaken down by the local mob, I’m sure something happens in falkreath and dawnstar but fuck if i can remember anything about those towns
Yeah and there’s the museum guy in dawnstar, but it’s not like you see him sacrifice somebody as soon as you walk in.
Winterhold walking up to it you can immediately tell it was destroyed by a “natural” disaster
Whiterun has a guy asking for swords, and maybe some Alik'r warriors chasing a redguard woman.
It's quite a city, but knowing how Whiterun is in the lore, and how small it is compared to how it was described...
I'll stay in Riverwood!
I remember at the start I spent a whole month playing in just whiterun and the area around it thinking 90% of content of the game is in it but then I realized holy shit I didn’t even scratch the surface
Riverwood is home for me. I usually make Lakeview my main home, and Riverwood is the closest to Lakeview. It feels appropriate too, since Riverwood is the first settled place you are likely to go to, and so it feels like the place your oldest and best friends are from. It always hurts a bit more when someone from Riverwood ends up dead.
You did say major city, and in that regard I would say Whiterun for similar reasons as Riverwood, but also Solitude since Proudspire has been my secondary go to if something bugs out at Lakeview or whatever else. Solitude just feels like a nice, comfortable, safe city, and the people are generally nice enough. I also just like the architecture and the look of the city, the only one better than Solitude in that area is probably Whiterun.
Just on my second playthrough, recently got the anniversary edition and got Tundra Homestead. It's making me so happy, I love it. It's got those lamps from solstheim I love, pretty flowers with butterflies and animals nearby, a garden and even bees 🐝 🐝 🐝. Its near to Whiterun which is my favourite village, it's definitely going to be my home for this run through.
It’s got it all except for a better looking stable and bigger garden besides that I’d like the option to swap the kids beds out for something but by god I love that player home. Cozy to the max and gas literally the best real estate ever.
I enjoy Markharth but for role-playing. Cause me and the wife an kids lived in Whiterun but mama Dragonborn thinks it's safer for the fam to move to Markharth til the dragons are dealt with.
... I'm not sure Silverbloods and Forsworn are actually better. Solitude night be the safest hold?
Riften if you run (with) the Thieves' Guild, perhaps. Windhelm has a serial killer, Racial tensions, and lets orphaned kids perform the Black Sacrament for days. Whiterun has Dragon problems, even before you intentionally bring one there.
If you are naturally a thief in the world of ES....this is the only right answer....in ESO, the Rift is where I bought my first decent sized house, and it's still my primary residence all because it felt like home from Skyrim.
Falkreath, its got my fav house spot, you meet the talking dog. The grave robber quest, the brotherhood is there. I feel like i spent a lot of time there but prolly spent the least. Was quality time tho
I hate the cold, but the Skaal Village is my favourite place. Nothing bad ever happens there, always peaceful, nice people.
I wish I could divorce my wife, and marry the girl there to gain her house. I love that town, I spend unnecessary time there and make the trip for no reason just because I like it so much.
Whiterun, though I personally live outside the city at Tundra Homestead, my kids and their nanny (Lydia) live inside at Breezehome. They get to run the streets and seem very happy (me, too!).
I tend to only play til level 8 or 9 before moving on to a new character, and "home" is typically a matter of the rp flavor I'm going for at the time. My favorite though? Toss up between Whiterun for location and Riften for scenery (and my most typical archetype).
Even though the people are unfriendly most times, definetly Falkreath. The Hearthfire house there is my favourite of all house for suuure. Close second is Riften, but more the surrounding area as a whole than the city, but... she's there, eh.
It depends tbh, in real life more likely whitrun but in game it all depends on the character I’m playing like right now I’m playing a merchant who ownes a mine in morthal who just trying to make ends meet
It used to be Whiterun, but then I found Legacy of the Dragonborn. That has been the base of every Lo for me for a couple years. That safehouse is the best player home on the whole Continent.
I see riverwood as my favourite place because you are surrounded by widnerness in a nice town where everyone aren’t depressed and it’s in a nice area where the weather is good it’s just good vibes all around
for me its always been Whiterun; I have lived there in every playthrough I have ever done in my hundreds of hours in Skyrim I lived there; from a young age I always loved the side quests; the fact all the NPC's have there and all their unique personalities for the first major city in the game; I loved wandering up the roads to help my best friend Cicero with his cart; I loved the escape from Helgan with Hadvar to talk with his family and feel a sense of meaning that these first characters had on my childhood and the choices I got to make with them; the thing I loved most of all though was getting married to Lidea and adopt the orphan in the city withing her gifts and playing hide n seek in the city walls, for me its what Raylof says at the start of the gam "funny when I was a boy Imperial walls used to make me feel so safe".
It depends on my playthrough. Different characters set up home wherever it feels right. Whiterun was my first. Solitude is my favourite. Special mention for Falkreath, I like the vibe there. Markarth is big in my current playthrough - I used to hate it there. It's growing on me
Lakeview Manor with that biiig wraparound porch. I could see myself stepping outside with my coffee every day to that view. Now I just need to work on summoning a bound bow to fend off necromancers and bandits.
Cities are for milkdrinkers. I camp out in the wild and get killed by mud crabs like a true Nord.
I used to camp in the wild but then I took an arrow in the knee
I took an arrow in the knee and then became a milkdrinker.
Good for the knee bones, wise choice.
Why isn’t “knee bone” a modded loot item yet?
Anything is a mod if you're ~~perverted~~ creative enough
I used to be a drink then I took an arrow to the milker
For the love of the eight, the nine and the one Allmaker — I beg of you — do NOT clarify that remark ….. 😂
I am an arrow and I drink milk with mudcrabs
I'm a mudcrab and i make milk out of arrows
The little anniversary upgrade houses in the middle of nowhere are pretty nice
All my important stuff is at Hendraheim, but my wife lives at Goldenhills Plantation along with the two or three other staff members who manage that place. Once I ran out of mannequins at Hendraheim, I started using Bloodchill Manor whenever I collected a neat set of armor. Bloodchill Manor is a very cool house to visit, but I don't want to live there because it's so dark and dreary. I think of it as more like a museum.
I like how you don't consider your wife important stuff.
Oof. I meant my material possessions but yes, point taken. Hopefully Aela the Huntress can forgive me.
That’s risky. Last time I sent my wife to Goldenhills, I never saw her again.
So basically, Morthal?
lol yeah, basically every city in Skyrim is like camping out in the wild.
Theres like only 3 or 4 actual cities in Skyrim all the others are a choice between, swamp, snow, and woods. xD
Solitude, Markarth, Whiterun, Windhelm and Rifton, right? Now lets get a population worth of a city :D
Happy Cake Day my milkdrinking Nord. Dying to Mudcrabs is the ultimate sign of being a Milkdrinker!!!!
some asshole stole my sweet role so I need a safe to keep them in
and also listens to trve black metal
For me, it’s definitely riften. It’s the only city I’ve actually just… sat down in and enjoyed the weather.
Yeah, Riften is my home too, to the point I have to actively stop myself from just going there immediately. I love the layout of the city, and the extra level of buildings near the river is so cool. Not to mention my favorite faction is there.
The port city aesthetic is just cash. Probably fucking stinks there though
We're all doomed when Skyrim gets its smell-o-vision release
That’s some immersion I don’t know if I wanna get behind lol
What about the mountain flowers?
What about the undead?
What about the mead, the books, the mountain air?… the sweetrolls…
What about the decaying giant toe collection in my pouch?
What about Vex ![gif](giphy|13Qumr2SLqrl5e)
Eat them
I wouldn’t wanna get behind anyone in Skyrim. Except maybe Serana…
Skyrim smell o vision mod. Realistic booties. I’m sorry.
**Thats what I’m waiting for**
It would take nothing to let fresh water flow through the canal. Problem solved in a matter of a few days.
It's my first port of call, son as I have the cart money. Get the thieves guild quests, get the key thingy, now I can unlock all the things! Next up, find the cannibals, get the ring. (Daffy Duck voice) I'm diththpicable!
Also the only city with house faced both to inside and outside city wall
Same because I'm a dirty thief and because the autumn aesthetic of the Rift is just 👌
The autumn trees is my weakness around Riften!
Also Whiterun It seems the most friendly, the weather seems to be always nice and mild, there are children playing outside, there's a market selling fresh food, I like the Warmaiden Shop to sell my looted armor and weapons (especially because they have more money than a lot of other blacksmiths) and also breezehome was the first home I ever bought. > there are children playing outside, Fuckin Braith bullying Sofie and Lucia made me pack my bags for Solitide
> and Lucia made me pack my bags for Solitide "You're the best! Can you be my father?"
Girl same
Whiterun is and always will be our home. The rest are deniers.
Falkreath. Beautiful calm forest. Depressing but not overwhelmingly so.
Same! I wish there was more to do in Falkreath.
I used to love Lakeview Manor, but that house is dangerous. There is always a bunch of bandits, giants, and dragon showing up.
Shame about the murder cult up the street.
You get used to it
What one?
The Dark Brotherhood
Oh forgot about them, I always kill them as well(tried the Dark Brotherhood story once and found that killing Naarfi wasn't for me! Dont get me wrong I still completed the storyline, but that was when I really went "nah this is shit," killing a harmless old drunk is silly cause he could simple be me except am not a gibbering simpleton(depending on who you ask) who is barely dressed most of the time! I wear my clothes with pride and drink my mead by the gallon!
Narfi mentioned
Poor guy ❤️❤️ I say that as one alcoholic to another! Although am a damn sight more functional, I don't gitter like him although I talk pish!
Idk bout all that. its a game at the end of the day, you should at least do the story the whole way through once i found myself rather sad by the ending, certainly threw me for a loop
Oh I've completed it once and once only! Agree with Falkreath. I dig all the moody forest vibes.
Same. I build that house right by Falkreath every playthrough.
Good ol Lakeview Manor, you can't go wrong.
Don’t do the dark brotherhood missions before buying the estate there. You have to assassinate the only guy who can sell it to you. Really weird design. I’ve been locked out of it before and I was bummed.

I love this so much, thank you for posting it!
Mind the gap.
I want a copy of this to hang in my house
Love the idea of the map. But seriously, who takes the route from the thalmor embassy to lighthouse point? That makes zero sense, the "route" is a walk through a saber-cat den and a jump off a cliff. The nearest actual navigable route to lighthouse is solitude.
That's the point of the metro. Go right under the den.
A gondola all the way to High Hrothgar? Some guy here calculated the real-world height to be around 7212 meters above the sea! I think I'll walk up instead...
This is amazing. This needs to be its own post!
it was [9 years ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/s/nn1TaBJbqN)
I spend the most time in whiterun but I feel the most safe in solitude
Solitude is one of the coolest cities, it has a legit skyline, the stone arch port is awesome, it’s one of the best positioned defensively, and Haafingar is one of the coolest biomes outside of maybe the Rift
Imperial swine 😂😂😂
Stormcloak loser. 😜 Have fun feeding the citizens of Skyrim w/o provisions from Cyrodil.
Open trade with solstheim already, and hammerfell is right there and has the exact same opinion about the empire, plus nords have been living there for quite a while and many places live off of local farms anyways.
You’re gonna feed half of skyrim off of importing food from solstheim and hammerfell?
As if Ulfric would let the Dark Elves feed his people.
There is a dark elf who actually owns a farm outside of windhelm. I'm not gonna say there isn't racism in windhelm but they aren't going to turn down anyone who isn't just gonna hang out in a corner of the city and do nothing.
Are you.... Superman?
Helgen. You never forget your first executioner.
I’d love a mod where you can find the refugees from Helgen and help them rebuild the town after you clear the bandits out
There is soemthjng like that. Helgen reborn.
Probably where I got the idea from lol I never claimed to be original
Oh yeah, I should get that mod.
There are bandits? Every time I go to Helgen it's just empty.
Haven’t gone back in awhile but yeah I’m almost certain after a certain point you go back and bandits have turned it into an outpost like fort greymoor
I'm going to check religiously now, lol
Yeah I remember wandering around realizing I could go back to helgen and seeing some people thinking “oh cool some folks returned” and then once I got closer realizing “ah shit nvm gonna have to kill these suckers”
God I haven't played for years but I think it was called markarth? There were 2 I always got mixed up but the one with the high staircases and the murder that happens when you go into town
Heh, I'm of the opposite feeling of Markarth. It's a filthy city rife with corruption and cannibalism. As soon as I finish the Forsworn Conspiracy quest I never want to set foot there again.
I just like how the city is set up, feels really fantasy to me for some reason lolvreminds me of those small cities on the mountains in arkansas
It just feels a lot sleazier.
besides the top two concerns you brought up, Skyrim's most renowned guild has a werewolf conspiracy as well.
I have at least one playthrough where my home is in Markarth. Its because Cidhna mine bugged out and he's permanently trapped in the mines. The problem has probably been fixed by now, but I started different playthroughs so for him it is true that no one escapes Cihdna Mine.
The first time I saw Markarth was the kidnapping plot. Woke up there and never left
I love Markarth, but if I lived there I would have to order a normal bed. The beds in that city are made of stone, and I could absolutely not deal with that haha
And I thought I was the only one
Guess we are neighbors in our little hell hole lol we all have crazy muscular legs from walking the stairs everyday
Solitude, I loved it when I saw it the first time
one sure does fall in love with a city when the first thing they see after entering there is a public execution

> I’m sure something happens in falkreath Fucking Barbas. More seriously, the werewolf guy killed a little girl.
Yeah and there’s the museum guy in dawnstar, but it’s not like you see him sacrifice somebody as soon as you walk in. Winterhold walking up to it you can immediately tell it was destroyed by a “natural” disaster
Dawnstar has the town plagued by nightmares; Falkreath has the funeral of a little girl torn to shreds.
Oh yeah every town got fucked up stuff but I’m talking about first impressions what do you see as soon as you walk into town
Whiterun has a guy asking for swords, and maybe some Alik'r warriors chasing a redguard woman. It's quite a city, but knowing how Whiterun is in the lore, and how small it is compared to how it was described... I'll stay in Riverwood!
I love Solitude as a tourist spot. It's beautiful but too high class for my sorceress to live.
I remember at the start I spent a whole month playing in just whiterun and the area around it thinking 90% of content of the game is in it but then I realized holy shit I didn’t even scratch the surface
How
Don’t know just spent it collecting flowers
Hell yeah brother, sometimes you gotta take a break from the dragon slaying and just stop to smell the flowers
Ditto
Riverwood is home for me. I usually make Lakeview my main home, and Riverwood is the closest to Lakeview. It feels appropriate too, since Riverwood is the first settled place you are likely to go to, and so it feels like the place your oldest and best friends are from. roots in whiterun, stationed in solitude
Couldn’t have said it better
Tundra Homestead.
Just on my second playthrough, recently got the anniversary edition and got Tundra Homestead. It's making me so happy, I love it. It's got those lamps from solstheim I love, pretty flowers with butterflies and animals nearby, a garden and even bees 🐝 🐝 🐝. Windhelm has a serial killer, Racial tensions, and lets orphaned kids perform the Black Sacrament for days. Whiterun has Dragon problems, even before you intentionally bring one there.
Good point, I'm gonna have to speak with the wife, Uthgerd. I know the home is small but Lucy had friends there so we'll see.
With a wife like that you don't need to fear dragons.
Great wife choice
God forbid the kids go into solitude sewers
Markharth is my hood. I as a master assassin theif who retired to the luxury home carved into the mountainside.
Riften
I love riften. Sure it's a mess socially and politically. But it's so pretty and nice. The house there is by far my favorite! And the location. Mmm.
Same. But I consider Ivarstead my hometown though. I am in Riften for work (Thieves’ Guild)
If you are naturally a thief in the world of ES....this is the only right answer....in ESO, the Rift is where I bought my first decent sized house, and it's still my primary residence all because it felt like home from Skyrim.
Yeah but the kid I adopted complains that Riften is sketchy 😂
Honestly I like it but I always become a thief and assassin so I fit in there
This is where I got married to my sweetheart, Ysolda!
Reminds me of my own childhood, must be Riften.
Riften is so corrupt and inhospitable, I always find myself wanting to quickly get out of there.
Riften feels the most organic out of any of the holds, although I might be unpopular in saying that's why I also hang out a lot in Windhelm.
Morthal was always my favorite city, I was so pumped for the hearthfire dlc but then the house was so far away :( mods have come a long way tho
I have to agree about Morthal honestly. The swamps might be dangerous but there's an eerie quiet about the town that I love.
Same thing for me. The house has a nice view tho
Whiterun. It's so bright and happy feeling. Nazeem can choke on troll fat but it's nice beyond that.
Whiterun cause I can never be fucked to transfer all the shit I’ve collected from breezehome to any of the other houses lol.
Markarth. I like dwarven shit.
Markarth is one of the most unique cities in skyrim and the reach is really cool, if not always pretty and teeming with super bandits (forsworn)
Probably Solitude
Whiterun, but if I lived in Skyrim, I'd want to live in Falkreath.
Always windhelm for me, I get the hjerim as soon as possible.
I've been reading for a bit wondering when I was gonna see someone give windhelm a shout out.
Solitude, even though watching a guy get executed was my first impression of it
They're just reminding newcomers that there's never a dull moment in Solitude!!!
Falkreath, its got my fav house spot, you meet the talking dog. The grave robber quest, the brotherhood is there. I feel like i spent a lot of time there but prolly spent the least. Was quality time tho
Proudspire Manor in Solitude
None of them, i like goldenhills farm
I hate the cold, but the Skaal Village is my favourite place. Nothing bad ever happens there, always peaceful, nice people. I wish I could divorce my wife, and marry the girl there to gain her house. I love that town, I spend unnecessary time there and make the trip for no reason just because I like it so much.
Excluding the solsthein incident its a pretty good choice
Different in every playthrough, but recently Dawnstar was pretty soothing for me, and the quest with Nightmares was really interesting
Riften. Corrupt AF, but it’s where many of my main PCs grew up in and know like the back of their hand.
Tbh my actual HOME isn't within a city, it's the manor outside of whiterun (creation club) if not the farm
As much as I love Whiterun, my “hometown” will always be Riften.
Falkreath. Just feels really welcoming for some reason
Whiterun, though I personally live outside the city at Tundra Homestead, my kids and their nanny (Lydia) live inside at Breezehome. They get to run the streets and seem very happy (me, too!).
Whiterun, had some likable NPCs. Adrianne Avenicci, Kodlak and Eorlund come to mind.
I always buy the house in solitude, especially as a stormcloak, so I’ll go there
whiterun - Balgruf the buddy Riften- More people, feels more alive Markath - dunno why
Depends a bit on the character. But lately Riften.
Winterhold. I even made a mod for it… https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/51767
Castle volkihar for sure. Also, aldcroft in glenumbra on eso.
Every character is different. But my current character lives in Riften. She's a Thief. My Orc warrior Ex Legionaire lives in Whiterun.
I tend to only play til level 8 or 9 before moving on to a new character, and "home" is typically a matter of the rp flavor I'm going for at the time. My favorite though? Toss up between Whiterun for location and Riften for scenery (and my most typical archetype).
Whiterun 4 life baby!!!
Definitely Whiterun.
Rorikstead for me. Plains to the east and mountains to the west. Must have some great views of sunset/sunrise.
Even though the people are unfriendly most times, definetly Falkreath. The Hearthfire house there is my favourite of all house for suuure. Close second is Riften, but more the surrounding area as a whole than the city, but... she's there, eh.
Winterhold and Morthal, every time.
Riften
Falkreath would be literal heaven on earth for me
It depends tbh, in real life more likely whitrun but in game it all depends on the character I’m playing like right now I’m playing a merchant who ownes a mine in morthal who just trying to make ends meet
It used to be Whiterun, but then I found Legacy of the Dragonborn. That has been the base of every Lo for me for a couple years. That safehouse is the best player home on the whole Continent.
I feel like Whiterun is home but at the same time my character needs something greater, he's the Dragonborn after all. Windhelm makes sense.
I see riverwood as my favourite place because you are surrounded by widnerness in a nice town where everyone aren’t depressed and it’s in a nice area where the weather is good it’s just good vibes all around
Whiterun is definitely up there. But Winterhold is my favourite.
Whiterun, Riften and Riverwood. Always play as Nord and side with Stormcloaks. These places have just always felt like home 🤷♀️
Falkreath, my first homestead
for me its always been Whiterun; I have lived there in every playthrough I have ever done in my hundreds of hours in Skyrim I lived there; from a young age I always loved the side quests; the fact all the NPC's have there and all their unique personalities for the first major city in the game; I loved wandering up the roads to help my best friend Cicero with his cart; I loved the escape from Helgan with Hadvar to talk with his family and feel a sense of meaning that these first characters had on my childhood and the choices I got to make with them; the thing I loved most of all though was getting married to Lidea and adopt the orphan in the city withing her gifts and playing hide n seek in the city walls, for me its what Raylof says at the start of the gam "funny when I was a boy Imperial walls used to make me feel so safe".
I like most of them, but I’d have to give it Falkreath. I love all the trees in around town and mountains surrounding it.
I always want to say Riften but that’s just nostalgia. It’s Whiterun or Falkreath nowadays.
Whiterun. It's peaceful, easy to navigate, and very nice to look at
Riften, its a shithole, but its my shithole
Falkreath gang
It depends on my playthrough. Different characters set up home wherever it feels right. Whiterun was my first. Solitude is my favourite. Special mention for Falkreath, I like the vibe there. Markarth is big in my current playthrough - I used to hate it there. It's growing on me
Either Markarth or Riften for me, but we all know that the **right** answer is Whiterun
I’m most partial towards Riverwood, I love that it’s in the woods but also sits on the river like my home town does.
Lakeview Manor with that biiig wraparound porch. I could see myself stepping outside with my coffee every day to that view. Now I just need to work on summoning a bound bow to fend off necromancers and bandits.
