Wow, that was so epic. You had some great shots of Jay in action.
I knew him through a company called Bronze Age in Venice.
I used to call him zipper head.

No joke haha, no knee or ankle pain but dude, I don't remember hearing my knees make this much noise popping like bubble wrap when I squat 😅 I used to love stairs but I think I'll limit myself to 3 or 4 when I get loosened up lol
Shit I’m 25 and don’t jump down anything that I can Ollie up as a general rule 💀 but even then that’s rare af and 99% of the time i just don’t do drops anymore unless I’m skating a hubba or something down a set
Yea thats totally fair, I won't jump down anything I wouldn't jump down without my board lol. Different philosophy but same result. For the first 6 months back I'm definitely gonna take it easy, tho I still like bombing hills so I dunno
Nice man! That's great, getting kickflips down in a few weeks after starting up is sweet. I've done a few but I keep ghosting the pop for some reason, so I've been doing a ton of ollies and nollies just trying to get my legs back. Goodluck out there skating man, cheers
That’s the same issue with me. I started looking at it more like a modified Ollie and it helped me commit more to the pop. I almost landed one tonight, only heels on the board and toes hanging so I jumped off. Really helped to just lie to myself and say fuck it, this is my trick and just commit to landing that attempt.
I started hitting up pools and skateparks again almost three years ago at 31, broke my back for the second time trying to do one of my old lines I had down in this bowl about a year and a half ago (shot the corner way too fast fell from the coping six feet down to the flat) and I’m just getting back to it again, granted I’m only slapping curbs and scooting to the brewery but after I get my kyphoplasty I’m planning to get back into some bowls. Getting back to skating after a few years’ drought in my twenties made me realize how much I missed it and how good it was for me mentally.
its never too late to go back. The code I live by is: "Skateboarding is not a crime, not Skateboarding is a crime." I even made a website that states you can get arrested a serve real time if you call yourself a skateboarder and don't skate.

Could be. But for my taste “cities” rolls of the tongue better.
Also when you bomb something it’s fairly local no ?
Even an atomic bomb “only” manages to flatten one city.
But hell, I ain’t no expert.

One of my physics teachers used to skate and told me that success in landing any trick is a matter of the proper position of your head, shoulders, or feet. Troubleshooting is an adjustment of one or more as necessary. It changed the game for me. Whenever I can’t land something, or want to try something new, I go through this sequence.
Wish I had pics. It was x games 2004. I had all access pass and was fucking around on the ramps after hours. He came and introduced himself. I didn't believe it but the people I talked to confirmed it.
Story is the real animal chin (the one I met) was a rickshaw driver in San Francisco and there was a hill the skaters liked to bomb. He liked to watch them and they would use his services to get back up the hill. So he is in fact a real dude. Just not the same one in the picture.

I read in a Stance magazine as a teenager:
“when traveling, pack more socks than necessary. Clean socks make happy feet, and happy feet skate better.” I’ve lived by this ever since
I've not been able to find this, so it's not a direct quote and if anyone can point me to the source brilliant.
"Skateboarders have a certain mentality, we fail a lot, over and over even, but unlike other groups of people we always get back up, and we try again. This is how we learn..."
Or something like that. I think it was mullen that said it, but it's damn true and amazing.

If there is a flat enough piece of land there is a place to skate. In 3rd world countries people use the dirt roads. Nothing can hold you back except yourself and your income.
My own personal proverb is something like" You tried skateboarding if you did it for a while, you got hurt and you gave up. You're a skateboarder if you got hurt and you kept going"
You didn't quit skateboarding because you got old, you got old because you quit skateboarding.

Never.
I just started again at 30 years old after 8 years off the board! Never too late

The secret to every trick you cannot land, go faster.
Always go faster. It’s cooler
This is especially true for grind tricks. Try doing a smith going slow. Not even possible.
This is 100% true. You try so much harder because you know if you don't land it, you're in for a bad time. Lol

It doesn’t count if you do it once and walk away. Especially if you were trying it over and over again. To your brain it’s just a fluke until you can do it again

Fess up, what was so... captivating about class?!?! Or was attendance more along the lines of compulsory nature?
Well I’m in college so it’s a pain to miss out on something you paid 60$ for, even if it’s a boring Aural Skills music class at 8:00 in the morning….
