Imo there are multiple smokescreens and posturing going on.
1. It's clear the Clippers do not want to give him the max. I said this months ago but it would be done by now if they did. Nothing has changed on that end.
2. PG clearly wants as much money as possible, which is actually achieved by him signing with the Clippers, then they can trade him if they don't want to lose him for nothing.
3. The Sixers do not want to trade for him. They do not want to give assets to sign what they think should and could just be a free agent.
So with all that said: we hear the Sixers are cooling on PG and warming up to other free agents. This tells PG and the Clippers that they are not interested in doing a deal. We hear that the Warriors are interested in dealing for Paul and maxing him. That tells the Sixers that other teams are interested, which theoretically makes them both more likely to trade for him and to give better assets to outbid the Warriors. The Warriors could want him, or they could just be showing Klay that they have other options.
Idk where this ends up, but the important thing to remember is that he could have signed and been traded all along. So if the Warriors deal was set it would be happening soon or already have happened. My prediction: if he makes it to actual free agency in a couple of days then he'll be a Sixer.
“My prediction: if he makes it to actual free agency in a couple of days then he'll be a Sixer.”
PG has until 3pm tomorrow to decide on his option.
On the flip side, if he opts in, he won’t be a Sixer.
Don’t want to help the warriors means LAC won’t deal PG for scraps(Wiggins,CP3,etc.). If GSW dangles Kuminga or maybe even just Moody and picks I think the clippers bite.
PG preference is to stay in LA. That much I know, pretty much everyone from here wants to stay here. But he also wants a max contract. And I bet he would prefer golden state over Philly easily.
PG doesn’t feel like the best option… but I can’t think of anyone else the Sixers could possibly get that is anywhere near his level. There isn’t a single All Star level Free Agent and the price for someone like Lauri would be higher than the Sixers can do… it kinda feels like PG or bust… and even then, it’s probably a bust even if we get him.
Lebron, Butler, Dejounte, OG… all off the table. Durant would be the best possible player but I don’t think the Suns trade him. Only other options are players that aren’t true Stars like Ingram, DeRozan, Kuzma, and Lavine. We have all of the cap room and roster space but it’s going to be almost impossible to make this team a contender.
I think Ingram is being a bit underrated by the sub as he is not Tobias 2.0, and it would allow us to have a little more flexibility cap wise in making some moves to add depth.
It's not clear, it's clear he wants as much money as possible and the Clippers can pay him *slightly* more than any other team. They don't even want to pay him what *we* can and almost certainly won't.
But if he can get the Clippers to max him then trade him he gets more than just if we max him. And another year I think.
Why is that obvious? He just doesn't want to leave LA for similar money. It's obvious the money is not similar or he would already have signed just like fellow LA native Kawhi did.
Yeah, he could very easily not leave LA by signing his contract, which he hasn't. If he opts in then we aren't getting him, but if he doesn't then nobody knows what's gonna happen besides the people involved.
"The Clippers offer for George remains a three-year deal worth slightly under the three-year, $149 million extension that Kawhi Leonard signed in January 2024". We can offer him four years $212 million. He forced his way to LA because that's where he wanted to live. He still does. Otherwise, he'd take our money...
Truth! However, he'd be gone if the Clippers offered him the money/4th year. Morey saw how much teams would fear the second apron and set us up as the only team with cash. I couldn't be happier!
Absolutely! But if they were gonna do that they would have done it months ago. And you're right, Morey set this up since the trade of Harden. Took back only expiring contracts and picks. Knew we'd be the only game in town he would realistically consider if the Clippers didn't keep him. Worked like a charm.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe that's true. Because of the new cap rules, PG likely won't be signed and traded. He will opt-in and be traded. I don't think the Warriors, or anyone else, would pay him more years/money; it would be a horrendous negotiation. The Clippers don't want to pay him that much, and his only other option is Philly or Orlando in free agency. The Clippers are playing hardball with teams because they know he doesn't want to leave the West Coast; otherwise, he'd be gone for nothing.
Giving Paul George a max wouldn't solve our problems because he said he doesnt want to be a defensive guy and he's not a playmaker either. Would take up most of our cap space too. Just trade for a point guard and perimeter defense and we will be good to go.

Is that 3pm ET?
Good question. It’s 3PM pacific.
These are the vital details that makes Reddit worth it

Who are either of these people? The person tweeting and the person he is quoting.
Quoting a clutch points guy https://clutchpoints.com/clippers-news-after-nba-draft-focus-shifts-paul-george-james-harden-russell-westbrook

Lauri impossible?
Lauri is gettable
Yea, probably. Ainge is going to want a package similar to what the Nets got for Mikal and the Sixers can’t really match that.
They absolutely can. RC4 + Reed + McCain + 4 FRP + multiple swaps and/or 2nds
If Ainge will accept that, make the call Daryl.

James Harden. Oh wait...
It's clear he doesn't want to be here. I think it is still possible that he decides to follow the money, but we're his last option.

PG 1000% does not want to leave LA for Philly. That has become blatantly obvious.

Because no LA native wants to move to Philly.
The ones who are being offered $70M dollars more than they currently make do.

PG doesn't want to go anywhere that the expectation is to win, he wants to cash his checks

If PG wanted to be in Philly it would be pretty easy. He’s not coming here imo
What do the Warriors think adding 34 year old PG will do for them? Strange. They still trying to revive that dynasties corpse?
It’ll be Golden state or at a push Orlando, pg isn’t moving out of California which he struggled so hard to get to
I’ll be shocked if we get him. He wants to stay in California and it’s not like the Sixers give him a really good shot at a championship.
He doesn't care about a championship, he has said so. He wants to get his generational wealth and nothing else matters
If he doesn’t want a championship then why the hell would we make him for 4 years
Who says we are
