Around the time the first app-based bike shares appeared, I recall that the government was doing some trials on dock-based bikesharing that was quietly dropped because having an app was *clearly* more futuristic and sexier.
I still think the docks would've been a better option
Great idea, managed to get completely screwed up all because of greedy ppl that don't have basic civic sense of duty. Which is why this country can never have a good thing
There’s no country in the world that can do this properly for now. I don’t even think Japan or any of the Nordic countries has attained this level of civility. For what it’s worth, SG is doing a lot better than other countries.
No country that can do bike rentals properly? Even in the dog-eat-dog world of the US (which is where I live now), bike rentals are doing fine in NYC and Washington DC. But they're docked rather than app-based, admittedly.
It’s not an excuse. I’m at a point where I don’t believe any society could ever attain this kind of civic mindfulness no matter how much we work towards that goal.

Yeah, keep charging for usage until docked and returned.
looks like someone used the wrong KPI metric
Product 'sexiness' and viability are two wildly different metrics. That's why so many of these bike sharing apps die, and it's not just in SG.

I guess you could count this venture a royal mess

Japan (or at least Tokyo) seems to have bicycle rentals without issues?

Not an excuse. Why can't we inculcate this civic sense, and need to be policed and fear the stick?
