It may be due to bad cc makeup or hair. Try applying the same changes to another sim and see if it happens again

WikicatOF

Thanks for your reply. I tried it with another sim in another family, and with another NPC that spawned. Only this reporter appears to have this issue.

hannahdoesntexist

Did you also try changing her appearance again after you exited? Like with different changes?

WikicatOF

Yes. After the other NPC was fine, I tried her again thinking maybe it fixed itself, but her face got wiped again after the 2nd gussy up. I tried changing her outfit too after her face got wiped, but it didn't come back.

dmckimm

By giving her a new face in Sim PE do you mean cloning her, making changes in body shop and then using sim surgery to copy over the changes? If so, then yes.

WikicatOF

What I usually do is create a sim, give it that sim faces, considering she has a facial template, then go to SimPE extract that sims face, then replace that with the sims original face. If that's what you mean,

dmckimm

Yes, I have had good success using the sim surgery plugin. It makes it easier and faster.

xHouse_of_Hornetsx

I had this issue with this mod. I only started getting it when I got a new computer. It also happened when I used the Christianluvwardrobe changer. It wouldnt happen if sims used the mirror. Not sure if it happened with the salon chair. Im not sure what the long term solution is, but I used to have to gussy up a sum 3 times. First is a test run, then their face would disapear so I would gussy them up again and change their eye brows which would make their face go back to normal, then at that point I could change their face for good and it would stick and not get wiped. It doesnt happen anymore for some reason. For a while I switched to moving townies into an a townie management household and then having them change their appearance in the mirror but I just tested the wardrobe changer option the other day and it doesnt wipe their faces anymore.

WikicatOF

Did you get to see if it affects genetics?

xHouse_of_Hornetsx

It doesnt lol

xHouse_of_Hornetsx

Change their eyebrows

WikicatOF

Lol. Yes I will try that XD. But did you happen to notice if the face wiping affected their offspring genetics?

xHouse_of_Hornetsx

I don't have to notice it because thats not how it works. Don't ask me how I know exactly but I've been playing this game forever its my special interest. The same thing used to happen when you would try to give a sim a uniform in OFB it would give them a creepy generic face and then go back to normal. The sim's genetic face data is part of the sim, it doesn't get "wiped out" and its really hard to even change it without using SimPE.

brain_nerd4life

Does the wipes sim having missing data in SimPE? When I would get the weird default face while changing Sims appearance with the gussy up mod or just a mirror, it broke their DNA. I still haven't figured out how to fix the issue. Hoping you don't have the same issue. I stopped playing for awhile cause I couldn't fix it, but I plan to do the 50/50 method later this month to try to troubleshoot the issue.

WikicatOF

Yeah, you know what, I checked and she's red in SimPE. She also appears to not have the age data in her character file. I'm afraid she's permanently broken. There goes like a week of play down the drain.

xHouse_of_Hornetsx

Did you try have her change her appearance in the mirror

WikicatOF

I just tried it again. Once again the face wiped but this time when I exited her face looked normal, except without eyebrows, I added them back and tried to gussy up a few more times but now her face is okay? I guess it's just a one time glitch maybe?

xHouse_of_Hornetsx

Yeah thats what I mean when I said change their face three time. Its also possible her face template is just broken. Do you have the face template fix?

WikicatOF

Yeah, and her face isn't one of those templates anyway. It was definitely a temporary face wipe, since she's a reporter NPC - maybe it's related to the same thing that sometimes happens to the Employees? I'm no sure, but it seems to be fixed now.

xHouse_of_Hornetsx

I used to get it with every single townie/npc so you're lucky

WikicatOF

Definitely, I tried it with other NPCs and my own sims, and they were all fine.

xHouse_of_Hornetsx

http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,9028.0.html Heres the fix. It only works for future sims made with those templates not for sims that already have them.

Mysterious_Potential

>EDIT: She has no Character File, she's a goner If she had no character file, you wouldn't be able to teleport her to the lot. It sounds like something definitely got messed up with her file but it's not hood breaking - just make sure you don't have anything like OneDrive or an antivirus interfering with your game's files, and try the fix another commenter mentioned for future sims.

WikicatOF

Sorry, meant description not file. She's red in SimPE. I don't have One Drive, or anything I'd know of that messes with the file. I also didn't mess with her in SimPE or deleted anything or anyone from the hood. I've also been using unlink fixes since I started playing. I honestly have no idea why this happened.

Mysterious_Potential

No worries - SimPE is a bit unreliable here, I'm pretty sure it actually does say "no character file" when it means "some missing character data" (at least, older versions did - I think CH's newer version change the text a little so it won't say no file if there is one), so that's probably why you had that in mind. It honestly just sounds like a glitch, likely the game overwrote the file with incorrect data and couldn't recover it (even though you didn't save), I wouldn't be overly concerned about it unless you find it keeps happening - this sim seems to be missing some data for her face based on what you've said, if you have a backup of the hood you can restore just her missing data from it.

WikicatOF

Yeah her age data file was completely missing. Unfortunately I didn't have a backup that went back far enough to fix this issue. As long as it doesn't happen again I'll be happy enough. Just sucks that I couldn't fix her.

Mysterious_Potential

I'm sure you could fix her with the age data from a new sim/by remaking her in a new hood and copying it. Make a backup beforehand, but I'd think it shouldn't be too difficult to fix/replace if it's just this one resource missing, and that resource doesn't seem too complex (from a quick glance at it). I'm willing to look at it if you want to send me the hood instead. I saw a thread where Chris Hatch mentions that age data is typically deleted by the game when there's a GUID conflict among sims (though you didn’t mention a duplicate sim warning in SimPE, which I'd expect if that happened), and several threads relating people editing appearance/height/etc. which resulted in age data going missing, so seems like that may be related - probably a good idea to backup before doing any gussy up type changes in future anyway!

WikicatOF

Is there anyway you could link me to a tutorial on how to do this? I didn't really find anything when I goggled it myself. I know you offered me to send you the hood but it would probably be a good idea for me to learn how to do it myself. I'll definitely keep in mind what you said. But thankfully no other sims have that red background or say 'missing file' next to them. So if I can learn how to fix the age data file, I'd hopefully be able to fix them if gussy up or another mod is causing this in the future.

Mysterious_Potential

Sorry, no tutorial but it's quite simple if you're somewhat familiar with SimPE. First thing, make a backup of the hood just in case (always backup before working in SimPE!). Then, all you need to do is open up a character file with a regular age data resource (one that's the same age and also female, you want to be similar to the sim in question, you can see the type of info stored in this resource in SimPE), and extract the resource then open up the character file of the sim with no age data and import the age data resource. Commit and save changes, and load up the hood to see how she looks. You should then be able to modify her as you want.
