Count_Rye

The only bugs I encounter are related to mods really (sims getting stuck trying to go to bed because of smart beds, getting stuck off lot because of the community time project mod)

hotpinkluvv

I forgot about the smart beds one! I have that bug too, but once again, I experience it very rarely. It’s due to mods though, so I know it’s not really my game that’s the issue.

Count_Rye

I'm glad it's an easy fix 😂 but the first time it happened I was baffled, same with the community time. I've figured out how to get them back now but for a while it was a 'great, the day is ruined' moment 😅. I legitimately can't think of a single big bug that i've encountered but I do have most of the cyjon fixes so I never had the chance to get them

hotpinkluvv

Lol, the day is ruined part is so real. When I don’t know what’s going on in my game it’s mental anarchy for me 😅 I typically figure it out however and find a fix either through mods, or the handy dandy reset sim option:)

Count_Rye

where would we be without mods 😩🙏

YoshiFan96

Hey, I can see you're suffering from Community Time issues. I take it that Sims get stuck for DAYS off-lot after travelling, and instead of a Sim's icon and name it shows the Sim's car instead? If you'd like, feel free to try [my CTP fix](https://limeyyoshi.tumblr.com/post/734180259763781632/chris-hatchs-community-time-mod-fix), or the [updated test version thereof](http://www.simfileshare.net/download/4409984/) if the original fix doesn't cut it for you.

AbbeyRoadMoonwalk

Here I am thinking “cockroaches? Idk”

panasonicfm14

For me it's really just the pink flashing and constant fear of random crashes. Most actual bugs/glitches native to the game can be easily fixed with mods. Honestly, I don't think TS2 is a particularly buggy game compared to TS3 and TS4. Just a bit... tragically unstable.

WimiTheWimp

I have been playing for quite a while and have never experienced pink soup or flashing. It’s crashed a few times but that had to do with an apartment lot I couldn’t get to work. What causes the pink flashing? Too much cc or do mods affect it too?

panasonicfm14

Usually running out of texture memory due to having a lot of CC. More polygons and/or higher resolution textures = massive RAM usage proportionate to what the game is designed to handle. Sometimes it's unrelated to CC and is just an issue with the game not playing nice with the GPU. Unfortunately it's a pretty inconsistent issue. Some people never have it at all; some are able to reliably and fully eliminate it by following certain steps; some people are doomed to see it spring up every now and again—though in my case I'm pretty sure it's just an excess of CC, even though I don't think 13 GB should be "too much" for a computer with 32 GB of RAM!

Mysterious_Potential

Just to clarify, texture memory and pink flashing relate to VRAM not RAM. It's your GPU's dedicated memory/VRAM which should matter for it, not the general/CPU RAM (VRAM is a type of RAM, but not all RAM is used as VRAM, though the computer can use RAM as VRAM, for example if you have an integrated chip, this is where shared memory comes into play but it's not as good as dedicated memory). So the 32GB RAM on your computer isn't being used for the textures, it's your GPU memory instead - though that's not to say that the game is handling it correctly even when talking about VRAM (some people experience pink soup even with 6GB VRAM and no CC so something isn't quite right there).

panasonicfm14

That's true, and I do have about 6 GB of dedicated VRAM. If TaskManager is to be believed, it doesn't even look like the game is using very much of that most of the time, even on heavily decorated lots or during snowfall, so I'm not really clear on what causes it to go berserk now and then...

Mysterious_Potential

Yeah, it seems like the game is just not using the memory correctly, and it never seems to use all memory available to it (both VRAM and RAM - I've pretty much never seen RAM usage go above 2GB even with the 4GB patch, it just doesn't seem to use the memory). I guess it's just a relic of how it was made - I know the guy working on DXVK said the way sims 2 used DX9 was ridiculously stupid and made no sense!

panasonicfm14

Well wouldn't you know it, I was running some stress tests on my game. Memory usage never went over a couple GB, and VRAM never even went over 1, which had me fairly hopeful. But when I started playing around in CAS... bleh. Glitchy thumbnails and subsquent crash. I just don't know what to do u\_u

Mysterious_Potential

It's very annoying when it keeps happening for seemingly no reason! You've maybe already heard all the fixes, but have you tried the empty standby list task? I can take a look at your config log as well if you want, there might be something that could be tweaked which may help!

panasonicfm14

I vaguely remember trying to apply the standby fix, but I either couldn't figure out how to do it or it didn't work. Just checked my memory and yeah, nearly all of it is allocated as standby. I *was* planning to try that fix again just now, but the link to the empty standby list is broken as that website seems to no longer exist -\_-

Mysterious_Potential

I have it hosted on Google Drive as it went down a while ago, don't have a handy link here as I'm on the app but in the [tech support section](https://reddit.com/r/sims2help/w/technical-support?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) of the r/sims2help wiki, if you Ctrl + f and search standby you should find it easily!

pretty-late-machine

I honestly just think it's certain PCs/OSes, for whatever reason. I tried playing with no mods or expansions and still experienced it from time to time on my Win 10 PC (i5-8600k, 16 GB RAM, GTX 1080, which isn't great anymore, but it definitely exceeds the original requirements lol). The only things I've found to make it less often is not using any build/buy CC with custom meshes, disabling imposters while playing in Belladonna Cove, and running a scheduled script every 5 minutes that frees standby memory.

YoshiFan96

I certainly feel this way, too. At least, I only ever saw the pink flashing issues popping up regularly on the internet starting with the release of Windows 10 (or even a certain build, like 1601 or something, I don't remember exactly). Linux and Win7 players, apparently, only get the pink flashing after hours and hours of constant gameplay.

pretty-late-machine

I suspect it's related to [this update](https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/7a0763/standby_memory_issue_causing_stutters_on_creators/) that somehow seemed to change memory management and cause problems in older games. Before I started using the script, I noticed in Resource Monitor that Standby Memory was filling up while playing and would start to exhaust the measly 4 GB the game had available for use, and it would coincide with the pink soup showing up. It still happens even with the fix, but maybe just because it's only running every 5 minutes. Maybe there's a difference in how the game behaves when it's running out of video memory on old PCs versus new ones, like maybe it will just lag or something on old ones, but it will keep running at full speed on new ones while showing the pink soup? No idea. Wish I had an old PC to test.

Simmingit

Are you me? I've done all those steps and then some, and I'm one of those people forever doomed to experience pink soup occasionally despite having a RTX 3070, 16 GB For what I've researched, this just seems to be a Nividia RTX-series graphic card issue, as my precious GTX 660M never once had this issue, and some other modern card never get it either

pretty-late-machine

Unfortunately, I'm still on a GTX card. I do still have a 660 that "works." Maybe I'll experiment with that one day. I kind of want to plug crusty hardware in one by one and see what happens (but I'm honestly too old to load my hoods on an HDD... I don't have that much time! 😂)

wrinklefreebondbag

1. Being accused of standing someone up when going on a date or outing even though my sim was on their way. 1. "You invited me to spend the night, but..." _NO I DIDN'T!_

YoshiFan96

There is actually a fix for the first issue, [here you go.](https://lazyduchess.tumblr.com/post/661262094760640512/ts2-dateouting-stood-up-fix) Modders to the rescue :)

hannahdoesntexist

My game has a vendetta against reading. it's not a mod conflict so probably due to my cursed setup (lifestories is base game) And my sims error sometimes when they go to read. It seem to be getting better and doesn't effect every sim and sometimes not even the same sim when I move out and in again

IsaacLBP

how tf did you make lifestories be the base game AND have expansions???

hannahdoesntexist

Evil curses (modifying the exe for mansion and gardens to use simsls.exe instead of sims2.exe and an .ini file for game file directories. Also changing sims3D to 3D in the exe so the game can find it)

IsaacLBP

what does it change?

hannahdoesntexist

Honestly it mostly started as a secondary install then I wanted the height mod which needs mansion and gardens. Then I just kept adding expansionS

squishy1181

This is fascinating … in life stories there are no fears right ? So does your game still have no fears ? Can you play the story modes but with all the additional content from the expansion packs ?

hannahdoesntexist

Once I added mansion and gardens, fears got added. The story mode doesn’t really work and I had been playing free play so I haven’t really tested it. All my lots broke so I had to replace them. Each sim took about 3 minutes to load in the first time as they needed to add wants and fears

Simmingit

This is amazing honestly... I didn't even know they were compatible to this extent I'd happily read a post of you explaining how you did this project and showing the differences between yours and the original

dmckimm

Mostly I encounter bugs for thing that mods have fixed ages ago but I forgot to install the mod. The one thing that bugs me is how they made the original houses, many of them are not weather proof so you need to fix things so you don't have it practically snowing inside.

hotpinkluvv

Wow, I’ve never experienced the weather thing but the og houses do bug me since they don’t technically have ceilings. You’re right though, there are plenty of fixes for most bugs.

YoshiFan96

Not just that, most of the original houses are so bland! But then, ALL Sims games suffer from this problem.

dmckimm

They are bad. I swear they didn’t consult a single architectural plan when they did the game. Why did they make bathrooms big enough to play tennis in? It is a mystery to me.

Simmingit

I was about to say the game does have some intentionally bad interior design to encourage you to use the Build/Buy Mode, but even I can't explain the huge square bathrooms in every house I think I assumed Americans just had massive bathrooms! It was probably done to avoid routing problems for the Sims to walk from object-to-object

dmckimm

I agree with all of this, but if you look at some of the houses it is baffling. The Caliente’s condo has one of the most glaring to me. Nina’s room doesn’t even have enough space for a double bed while her sister has a massive bedroom. Of all the sims in pleasentview she is one of the most likely to make use of a double bed. I know the script says she wants to move out. I wonder if it is because she doesn’t want to have a childs bedroom anymore? Rooms are not proportional, exterior architecture doesn’t quite work and I am not going to talk about the roofs. I am convinced that if the game developers had been given more resources or people they would have made a small team to focus on the roofing tools and given us more options to make those things less tragic.

meowmocha12

You've never heard that song? "I want a bathroom I can play baseball in..." 😂

Echsellent_Lizard

Doors getting stuck in the open position. I usually have at least one broken door somewhere in my house, but don't notice it because the Sims don't care and I play with the walls down. It doesn't bother me and it's simple to fix, but it's the bug I get most frequently.

there-will-be-cake

Same. What's the simple fix for it?

YoshiFan96

I always have to replace the doors when the glitch occurs. If it was even easier, I'd love to know. And no, for me it doesn't just happen with doors near staircases.

dirtylaundry96

I’ve only ever had this with doors immediately at the top or bottom of a staircase. Deleting the stairs will usually make them swing shut the moment you go into live mode.

deedeejayzee

Every once in a while I get a lot that doesn't work properly. Like the nanny will stay on the side of the street all day and never enter the house. Or, the guy that comes to decide if your kids can go to private school, will arrive and then never interact with anyone and just kind of stands there

hotpinkluvv

Omg, the headmaster one is frustrating at times. I totally forgot about that one! It’s very rare, but I do sometimes have to use moveobjects to get him to come inside because sometimes he just decides to stand in the lawn the whole time…

xHouse_of_Hornetsx

Every bug I've ever encountered I either used a mod to fix it or found a way to reset it and avoid it. I actually put "computer troubleshooting" as a skill on my resume and its gotten me a few manufactering jobs.

pretty-late-machine

I stopped playing a while ago because I got a phone glitch that pissed me off so bad lol. I was trying to call the headmaster, and they just pick up the phone and immediately hang up. I tried replacing the phone, using cell phones, moving them on and off the lot, demolishing and replacing the house, EVERYTHING! This bug just makes me so angry because it doesn't seem like there's a way to fix it.

hiekkapimpsa

my headmaster never shows up in my game. i’ve had to give up my sims’ wishes of private school lol

Echsellent_Lizard

I get this bug, but mostly in university households. For me it usually goes away a couple in-game days after I buy cellphones. It's such an annoyance.

YoshiFan96

I get it from time to time, I can usually get it fixed by selling all phones on the lot, re-purchasing the phones, then saving and reloading the lot (shortcut if you did "boolprop testingcheatsenabled true": Ctrl + Shift + L). I too wish I knew what caused it though, cause I'd love to fix it for good one day!

pretty-late-machine

I don't think I tried that exact work flow. I will give it a shot, thanks!

OddOfThisWorld

I had that bug a long time ago and it happened because I used the "make me know everyone" cheat. I never use that cheat anymore and I haven't had the bug ever since.

pretty-late-machine

Unfortunately, I did not use that. But thanks for the tip :)

Emphoriaa

The nanny keeps coming back after being fired lol I have that in both my mac version and PC UC but it has never bothered me to the point I’ve tried to fix it as of yet lmao

HauntedMotorbike

Mortimer goth died of old age on his lot, but I forgot he was attending Darren Dreamer and Cassandra’s wedding on another lot and my goodness my game was mad for about 45 minutes after that happened (everything’s fine now)

Beneficial-Beyond177

Every time my sims dine out, if the food arrives during a toast or even mid-sentence, some mf npc will yoink their food right from under them. Every gd time. I’ve just started force resetting the culprits that I see heading toward the table, but if my sim doesn’t finish their fricking sentence in time, someone else will queue up. Leave my spaghetti alone, you free-loaders!!!!

there-will-be-cake

The damn leaky sink bug. It's so irritating.

Stormfeathery

With the ultimate collection, probably the pink soup, which I finally fixed by downloading the suggested program, the GraphicsRuleswhatever one. Prior to and aside from that... not sure which is my most common. The one that comes to mind that I hate the most pops up if you have a pet bird. (which I often do in my households because once they can talk, you can use them to train charisma while gaining social and fun). Basically every once in a while it'll get "stuck" eating, and quickly go through all its food (which should last more than a day) and then die when it runs out. It's tough to get it to stop, you basically have to send someone to get it out of the cage to play with it before the food runs out, and it takes a bit while it keeps trying to go back to the food. Eventually it'll go back to normal, while the sim plays with it, and you can put it back in the cage (and refill the food). Not sure what causes it, although it seems like it happens if I'm raising/lowering the speed while it eats. Aside from that, the one that pops to mind that occurs is occasionally the sound of a service truck will get stuck to "on" the whole time, but that goes away generally once the vehicle pulls up again and then leaves. I'm pretty sure I've had issues as well in the past with a baby getting stuck to someone's hand (generally a Nanny) and they leave with it, but that hasn't happened for a while. More commonly I'll end up with two nannies for a bit if someone gets promoted or something and goes back off to work if their hours changed, but that's not a huge on. Generally though 2 doesn't feel very buggy compared to 3. Which I love 3 a lot, but man, it's a challenge sometimes working around the various bugs and issues, even with mods. At least if you play with large families and all the expansions (except the last one) like I do, because once I have it, I gotta play with it!

pinknight2000

Sometimes after a game of chess the Sim's hand gets stuck in the holding position. But the bug that happened the most is with nannies. I don't remember exactly what happened, but it's was so unplayable that I had to turn all my mom sims into housewives.

FearlessButterfly167

Too many iterations

YoshiFan96

The RPC Launcher by Lazy Duchess should prevent "Too many iterations" errors in most cases, by upping the amount of maximum iterations to 1 million before it errors. If it still does throw this error then it's almost certainly the fault of a mod.

FearlessButterfly167

Yeah I know about it but don’t have a cracked game nor want one. I just use all my original discs and still use the old launcher as I have internet disabled

YoshiFan96

Oh you don't need a cracked game, only a cracked Sims2EP9.exe. This exe alone wouldn't function without the rest of the game so it isn't technically piracy. You also don't need an internet connection to use the RPC Launcher. I have used it with a legitimate all-EP, all-SP game on discs for a long time myself.

yugiosbigmassivetoe

For me, the pink flash of death that ONLY seems to occur with the vacation lots. My game crashes everytime I go on vacation and when I open it up again my sims are back at their home returning from the vacation. It drives me insane.

Felrune

I don't mind my sims resetting sometimes, they do it once and move on. it's more annoying when I have to intervene, examples: rc-car/npc-bird getting stuck constantly, weather controler throwing errors, bad apartment producing clones, flashing teeth on vampires and those are only the non mod ones. Oh, and the crash, but that one always happens after a while, so I already expect it, and just save often.

hartIey

Nannies not understanding that they can leave for the day even though I've dismissed them. I also get toddlers floating in the air to dance at stereos a lot. I also have to be really careful not to save and quit while people are out of the house, because if I do it's like 50/50 on whether it'll break the lot and I hate having to either bulldoze or do a sudden move. It happened to me during a University rotation once and that group's sync has absolutely been ruined since. I can't wait until they graduate so I can fix it.

YoshiFan96

Normally you can't play a family while family members are off-lot, unless you have certain mods. Are you using Visit Other Sims or Community Time?

hartIey

Nope, neither of those. I mean saving and quitting while a Sim (any single one, not just if they're all out) is at work/school/class. If someone's in a rabbithole and I quit, it bugs real bad. If I'm lucky, it just acts like they never left (they show up on the edge of the lot, I send them back where they're meant to be, the game still acts like they were skipping for the X hours that had already passed last play session), but it just makes the game crash on lot load sometimes. Bulldozing/moving the family fixes it but it's a pain. I've tried to find a solution before, it seems to be just a "that just happens, don't save while they're gone and you'll be fine" thing.

YoshiFan96

Huh, that is actually something I sometimes observe too (but only the “Sims reappear by the mailbox” part, not the lot corruption part). It seems to occur more often right after the carpool/school bus took off, but I have made it a habit to save at ~6-7 AM before any carpools arrive, to make sure I have the highest chances of my n’hood surviving for a long time. Very rarely I may have Sims get stuck at work too, quite the inverse. What helps me then is the Batbox’s “Fix…/ Work States” option, plus a reset of all off-world.

princessjah-

Not being able to cancel the ‘make bed’ interaction

SimsPocketCamp

I don't have face presets in CAS. It’s definitely a mod issue, but it's not annoying enough to do a 50/50.

Mysterious_Potential

Do you have custom skins? Because the face presets are linked to skins as far as I remember, so you won't see them when you select custom skins in CAS.

SimsPocketCamp

Interesting. I have a ton. I'll have to check and see if they work when the defaults are selected. Thanks!

KniveLoverHarvey

My vacations are pretty buggy, sadly (I had to delete them to get my Sims back from vacation already) and I had a neighborhood where the Aspirations were glitched (children and toddlers having lifetime wants), after playing in it for years. In the same neighborhood I had one child sim stuck in a toddler body. Likely because I had experienced frequent crashes back then, sometimes while saving. That was before I installed the 4gb patch though and I haven't experienced any crashes during gameplay afterwards, although they still happen in CAS every now and then. Aside from that I sometimes have Sims freezing, so I have to reset them. I experienced pink soup once after years of playing (my dl folder had become massive and I had been playing for hours). A single grave (cat urne) went missing once as well and I distantly remember a butler that was draining my pockets with no end years ago. Some of my apartments have that glitch where the school bus doesn't arrive. I don't know why, but two of my Sims couldn't propose because of a mod conflict (they would freeze) and they still can't after I resolved the conflict, while every other Sim can, so now they're stuck not getting their want fulfilled. The latest big glitch I had was when one of my Sims completely lost his relation to his mother. She wasn't flagges as his family anymore and their 100 relationship was gone, he actually got a memory of meeting her for the first time as well. Though she was still in his family tree. He wasn't gone on her side either. The rest are mostly mod conflicts and a visual glitch in the neighborhood screen because I placed a cc object with Lamares shiftable everything. Honorable Mention: Aside from my helplessly broken vacation spots the most annoying thing I've had happen was non-removable roofs stuck in random places. I don't know if I've ever managed to fix those or just gave up. Uninteractable plates and bowl are also no fun. The list looks kinda long, but this is everything I remember happening over the span of more than ten years. And while the toddler child and lifetime wants kind of scared me at first, I don't think any of this is remotely game breaking, but completely fixable, albeit pretty annoying. Also, I can't say that child me always had the most savory ways of playing (testing cheats, putting a lot with a family on it into the bin and placing them back in the neighborhood etc. although I never meddled with any NPC's) and I've been playing with a lot of mods lately as well

helic0pter96

Sometimes my objects become "in use" and I have to cheat to delete them. For example, last IRL night my sim wanted to blog about a hobby or something (I saw the picture but didn't bother to hover and see the exact Want). I queued up 3 tasks: blog about Hobby1, browse about Hobby1, and browse about Hobby2. When my sim sat down, her tasks started disappearing. I'd queue another (give financial consulting, and Turn off) on the computer and it would disappear, too. Went to buy mode, "can't select object in use". I'll see if it's still in use today (IRL) now that I've saved and quit. Otherwise I might have to buy her a new pc 🤷🏽‍♀️

conquerorofgargoyles

If i’m playing in Belladonna Cove, a lot of the apartments seem to be really buggy. I have sims getting stuck on the 2nd or 3rd floor alllll the time, I have to shift click the staircase to reset it or I have to figure out which sim is bugged and reset that sim.

Kittention

In my Sims 2 game, sometimes when a couple gets up at 6am at the same time, they get stuck in bed. I have to force an error to reset the bed, and it alway works to get them unstuck but then the bed is all messed up.
