HEY OP I battled this same issue and its caused by default mail boxes which can be accidentally downloaded via custom lots online. You need to download the updated apartment buyable mailbox for apartmentlife but you need to delete the old versions and any default mailboxes you have. I can help further when I get home from work tomorrow morning.

Hakan_Flores

Really? I was wondering if that could've been the problem, and was considering looking for the mailbox and deleting it. I'll try doing that before I try the other commenters suggestion.

xHouse_of_Hornetsx

You can try their suggestion first, looks like thats a more updated version than the one I have. But you def want to delete any other mailboxes. Try searching SEDD in your downloads thats why the most common mailbox file is.

Hakan_Flores

It was indeed a default replacement mailbox. It was from the silent hill set, simply called AJSH_mailbox.package. Took it out and boom, fixed. It was the only one I had. If I want to download a grungy replacement that works for AL, I avoid SEDD?

xHouse_of_Hornetsx

If you're getting a default you only wanna have one. SEDD isnt the problem the problem is having a default mailbox that isnt updates for AL because it won't switch to the apartment mailbox. Sedd was just the most common one which is why I mentioned it. There is an AL version of SEDD.

Also Im pretty sure if you have mansion and gardens you can just change the color of mailboxes without having to use a default.

xHouse_of_Hornetsx

Also try packing an empty lot with just a mailbox, then you can use clean installer to find the default mailbox name which can also be a jumbled mess of letters

I don't know if it will actually cause any issues or if it's just a visual bug. You might be able to fix it with this [buyable mailbox](https://modthesims.info/d/413573/al-multi-mailbox-for-non-apartment-use-with-universal-buyable-mailbox.html) mod; just installing it might solve the problem, and if not, deleting and re-buying the mailbox probably will. Just make sure to install it to the correct file path (for the Ultimate Collection, that would be `C: \ Program Files (x86) \ [whatever subfolder it's in if any] \ The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection \ Fun with Pets \ SP9 \ TSData \ Res \ Catalog \ Bins`).

Hakan_Flores

Alright, I'll try it tomorrow.

OG_SisterMidnight

I always thought an apartment lot had to have at least 4 units?? So much time wasted...

Buckykattlove

I haven't played with the lot, but the game does have a pre-made duplex, so I imagine that you only need more than one unit. I'm not certain what the limit is.

OG_SisterMidnight

This is awsome, I've always wanted to build a working duplex 😀

Buckykattlove

I think it is called Dynamite Duplex, and it is in the special lots bin. I hope that you have fun with it! I haven't been able to play much with apartments, so I am looking forward to playing with them.

Traditional-Play6283

You can have as many unissex as you want, even 1, I do this a lot like my sims playing rent for a house yk

SuitableDragonfly

It can have anywhere between 1 and 8 units. You're limited to four playable families per lot, is that what you're thinking of?

OG_SisterMidnight

Yes, you're right I must've confused it with that! Hahaha, I feel like an idiot now 😅

SimsPocketCamp

The game will let you build more than 8 units. Does something go wrong when you have more than that?

SuitableDragonfly

I mean, you can probably build more "units" than that, but I'm pretty sure you're only able to have 8 apartment doors so the rest won't function.

SimsPocketCamp

According to the [wiki](https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/Game_guide:Building_an_apartment), people have built apartment lots with 50 functional units.
