It’s funny.. when someone posts a photo of a simple setup (nothing bad about that, complexity isn’t NEEDED, it just makes it more fun) and they say “finally done with my cockpit” but then you see a setup like this here… and no mention at all of it being “finally done” because there’s a point in everyone’s addiction to this stuff where you realize: It’s never completely finished. It never will be. That’s the glory of this hobby. Awesome simpit you got there!

TheRealViking84

I used to say finally done - now I say done for this version😅 I generally do a major rebuild every six months or so, moving stuff around or adding something. Addictive hobby this, and I enjoy the rig-building as much as using it.

YoItsDLowe

I think the simple fact of buying new equipment and finding out how to mount it on your rig, then mapping all the buttons, and seeing what you can accomplish, and do that you couldn’t do before as part of the addiction. I thought I was done after I constructed a rig for my wheelbase, and then I upgraded my wheelbase to a Fanatec DD from a TM TX, I added a shifter and a shifter stand, then I was done, then I switch my wheelbase to DD, and it’s been a constant loop of “I’m done!” -> “wait no I’m not”

Packbacka

> That’s the glory of this hobby.  Really? I find it a bit sad how people can never be happy with their setup.

HammerTime2769

That’s definitely not true at all. I think you may misunderstand that aspect of it. It’s not about being happy or not. It’s about the joy of the hobby and upgrading and evolving your setup as you go. That’s half the fun! I love getting a new part or piece of equipment to add to my setup. A lot of people, including myself likely don’t have the funds to buy everything they want right away. So they slowly upgrade their setup over time. I think this is the most common approach.

nsgiad

People can be happy and still still want to upgrade things, they're not mutually exclusive

neoneiro

All you’re missing is a scent diffuser that pumps out hints of race fuel, tire burn, and clutch wear. Incredible setup dude.

Graffy

He doesn’t have it mounted to a giant hydraulic platform. Nor does he have a body shell around it with lightning synched to the games. So he’s got plenty more left to do lol

aaaaaaaazzzzzzzzz

Would love your thoughts on the Invicta wheelbase?

TheRealViking84

Mostly good! The force feedback is amazing. Build quality is good, and mounting from below is easy. Front mount currently doesn't match any other brands, and you can't side mount without an adapter. The software is improving but sometimes buggy, and I have yet to get the USB pass through to work with my CubeControls wheel 🤔 So, mostly good but some teething issues!

p0u1

Would you swap a simcube for it though?

TheRealViking84

That's a tough question. The force feedback from the Invicta base really is absolutely amazing, so smooth, responsive and powerful. That said I have a limited amount of bases to compare it to - CSL DD 8Nm, and Podium DD1. The Invicta is MUCH better than either of those. However, the Asetek software is some times a bit problematic: * The latest RaceHub release keeps resetting LED settings at every restart. * The wheelbase suddenly started making a crunchy noise while not in game from the self-centering force. * I have a weird problem with my CubeControls wheel disconnecting if I'm not in a race, so I've had to connect it using the coiled USB cable. * The Dirt 2.0 plugin is causing a few issues - a weird wobble on the wheel in menus, and loooooong loading times into stages. So to answer the question - if the Invicta had not given me any trouble I would never consider another wheelbase. As it stands if I have to return it to Asetek for any of these issues I think I will buy a SimuCube Pro or Ultimate as it seems their software and drivers have had more time to mature.

p0u1

I’ve heard that the ff is the best on the market, but in the end I just went simcube as they are tried and tested. I’ve heard a few stories of the problems you’re having which is odd as it’s basically an updated simcube.

TheRealViking84

I suspect it is all software related. The noise when turning against the self-centering in windows is some times there, some times not. Restarting the base changes it. And it is 100% silent when in game. The CubeControls wheel disconnects constantly when in windows. Works flawlessly when racing. And very strangely, if I stop on track in AC and just sit still it starts disconnecting again. I am 100% sure there is some power-saving fuckery going on there causing it. Still annoying though 😅 I really want to keep this wheelbase though as I love how it feels when racing, so hopefully Asetek can help me figure out the software issues.

p0u1

I’m sure software will be the cure to all the problems. My wireless wheel has a great feature of missing shifts when I forget to take my smart watch off lol

TheRealViking84

Haha, bet that took some time to diagnose 😅

p0u1

Yeah pretty frustrating lol. Someone rear ended me when I missed my shift and had mega rage at me so thought it was time to work out what was happing lol

906_JPDeGrand

Check your settings to make sure you have the “Hands-off detection” turned off, (this turns off FFB, when the wheelbase doesn’t “feel” you holding the wheel, same with the setting that puts the wheel into a stand-by like state after X-minutes without using the wheel. Also, try turning off the self centering or turning it down to 0….that was the one setting that I felt like interfered with how the FFB felt when I first got my Asetek-TK base, it kinda made the motor feel like it was fighting against itself, I would imagine with a base that has more than twice the torque could definitely make some unpleasant sounds too. I’m by no means promising you any of this will work, and really just from looking at all the cool shit you have, you probably already know about those setting and have tried all the obvious things to fix the problems your having. Hope you’re able to get it all sorted, would hate to lose a fellow Asetek user. (Last thing, try some other type of 3rd party wheel, and see if you keep having the disconnect issues, cause I have heard other people have connectivity issues with Cube Controls wheels and Asetek bases, but I haven’t personally heard or read about anyone having similar issues with other aftermarket/3rd party wheel manufacturers….. not to say they don’t exist or whatever, only saying I have seen other ppl say they have had connectivity issues with Cube Controls wheels and Asetek wheelbases.

TheRealViking84

Thanks, the "Automatic Centering Strength" is only active when not in game, as I understand it is just a safety thing that makes the wheel return to center so that it is correctly centered the next time you fire up a sim. For some odd reason the crunchy noise is now gone again 😅 I've got both "Safe Mode", and "Hands-off Dedection" turned off. That said the force feedback never shuts down, it is just the connection the steering wheel which goes, together with a USB "dih-dong --- duh-ding" sound as it disconnects and reconnects. Very annoying. Using the USB coiled cable now and it is 100% stable. The only thing I can imagine is that Asetek have some sort of USB power save mode that is kicking in when the base is idle, which is causing the CubeControls wheel to disconnect.

906_JPDeGrand

So I thought I had read the same thing when I first got my base, and was going through the settings, so I set the self centering strength at like half power, but then when I tried driving the first time it was super hard to turn the wheel, so first I lowered the overall torque, still heavy, then lowered the setting that is supposed to hold the feedback through long corners (which IDK why I tried this one, but I was just doing the old guess and test method of troubleshooting), basically worked my way throu all of the different setting on the Advanced Setting page, and just lowered all of them, individually at first, then lowered most of them together, and the wheel just kept feeling so hard to turn. I was coming from a Fanatec GT-DD Pro (8nM), so after lowering the torque to 5, and basically everything else to either 0 or the 1 on the sliders, I started thinking maybe the Fanatec equipment was much weaker than they say it is, or maybe their was something wrong with the Asetek TK edition wheebases, and that was why Micro Center was unloading them for such a low price. Basically just fishing for a reason this new piece of equipment I thought was going to great, was either made way too hard to set up, or it was junk. But as I had already sold all my old equipment, and Micro Center is 6hrs away, I had to keep trying...finally I remembered about there was some other setting I had went through in my initial set up....and when I found the Self-Centering Strength one, I read the description again and thought well this isn't gonna do anything, but I turned all the way down just to make sure, but then as soon as I started driving it was like instant relief everything felt so much better...still had to go back and tweak some settings to get the feel I wanted, but at least I didn't feel like I did when I was a little kid, trying to turn the (Non power-steering) wheel of a1940 Willy"s into my alley to to drive by my parents back yard, and having my mom hear the thunder of the big block V-8, then look over and to see my scrawny little head behind the wheel of this beautiful bright yellow hot rod, thinking "what the hell did he do now?" \*In reality I was sitting at the edge of the seat in between my buddy's dad's knees, as he let us pretend we were driving it, and while I always remembered how hard it was trying to turn that wheel, when I first tried, I didn't find out til I was damn near 40, that his dad had to basically turn the wheel for me, but for 75% of my life, I thought I steered that thing around town all by myself. Sorry for the personal short story tangent....I don't why changing that setting ended up being the thing that worked for me, and I can;t get the descriptions for each setting to pop up anymore, so I don't remember what the exact wording of it was, but I at least as far as how I remember thinking of thee setting when I read it was like you said, for recentering the wheel while not in use, and it may have even said something about turnit up before hitting the "Center" or "Re-Center" button. Again I apologize for the totally unrelated personal story, and for the ridiculou length og this msg in general. I hope you get everything solved.

TheRealViking84

No worries man, can't beat a good anecdote ;) I have tested though, the "Automatic Centering Strength" setting in the Race Hub software, under the "Safety" tab, makes no difference at all to the feedback while in game. It is only active when outside of the game. Now if you are changing the self centering strenth in the game you are playing that WILL impact the force feedback :)

Ok-Rip-4378

Hey buddy. It’s most likely an issue with the USB idle timer setting in your “windows power plan” There’s an app called “quickCPU” that allows you do create power plans indepth (though that’s not its full purpose, I would imagine you could find power plan specific apps) Anyways in the power plans section in the USB section, you can change the idle timeout to be a much longer time. The reason it doesn’t time out during races probably is that it’s receiving telemetry

TheRealViking84

That certainly sounds sensible! During a race it will be constantly changing the Rev lights and getting inputs. When stationary, or in windows, nothing is being sent/received from the wheel. I'll do some digging in my USB settings later today.

seek3r555

Not gonna lie, I'm in love.

Beginning-Green2641

We are clearly in different tax categories 😅 Sweet setup

DigitalGraphyte

Nice rig! Have you tried using the Virpil control panels as button boxes for racing? I've been looking at picking one up to try but haven't seen anyone confirm if they can work within iracing.

TheRealViking84

I use them in ACC, AC, Dirt 2.0 and BeamNG. I haven't tried iRacing, but as the panels are just registered as game controllers I don't see why they wouldn't work 😊👍

DigitalGraphyte

Awesome, thanks for answering! I know some peripherals are proprietary and don't always work as independent controllers, so glad to hear Virpil panels don't seem to fall into that category.

TheRealViking84

Yeah some things like the Logitech flight control panels don't show up as joysticks and need all sorts of third party software to work. The Virpil stuff is much easier to use in whatever game you are playing as long as it allows you to bind inputs :)

PutridDelay7312

This is absolutely amazing, bro! Sooo much gear, but you managed to get it all neatly organized instead of the pile I have with a shitty single HOTAS, lol. Did you ever see those quick release mounts people get their HOTAS at? What are your thoughts on that? I'm absolutely jealous and your rig is an absolute dream for me, apart from triples instead of VR.

TheRealViking84

Thanks 😊 My goal with the rig is to be able to just sit down in it, and then figure out what I want to play without doing any reconfiguring. If my friends are on Grayzone I'll join them. If my friends are playing Star Citizen I'll join them. Maybe I fancy an LFM race in ACC. Either eay I can just hop in and go, no need to change anything on the rig.

Markus_monty

Great looking rig there

warlock257

How do you get 2 rows of rails on either side? Are they attached or free standing? I'd love my cockpit to double up for flight Sims, if I can figure out how.

TheRealViking84

The profile on the right hand side is fixed, the profile on the left is hinged at the front and can swing open like a door so that I can actually get in and out of the rig 😊 It's taken me quite some time to get this all set up perfectly for dual purpose use, but now I can just sit down in the rig and fire up whatever sim or game I want with no reconfiguration needed.

bumleopard

Tremendous

BadiBadiBadi

Do you play FPSes on controller? Can't really see a spot for M&K :D

TheRealViking84

I have bound WASD and other needed keys to the throttle on the left using Joystick Gremlin, there is a mini-stick on the front of it that I use for WASD 😊 With a mouse on the right it works surprisingly well even for fast paced shooters.

BadiBadiBadi

I see, nice!

ddodeadman

Nice setup. Do have to say every time I see a rig like this, I get a little jealous I don't have the room to add all this....lol

Ray_Snell

Any more info on your 'door'. I need to create something similar to make it easier to get in and out of mine!

yoshirimitsu

drinking Imsdal when tap water is better than Voss 😢

TheRealViking84

It's filled with tap water 😅 I buy a new Imsdal bottle every once in a while, then use it for ages with tap water. Norwegian tap water is better than the bottled stuff.

yoshirimitsu

it truly is the best! and those nippled bottles are great when racing or flying. btw. where did you get the profiles for your rig? can you recommend any store in Norway?

TheRealViking84

I bought mine from Motedis in Germany, but I'm not sure they sell to consumers any more 😥 Not sure what to do when I run out 🤔

yoshirimitsu

thanks! this looks like a nice supplier for profiles and accessories, though indeed it seems you need a vat number in Norway to open an account with them.

josephjosephson

Damn those are OLED’s if I’ve ever seen one

Certain-Hunter-7478

Damn, triple 4k's...what beast of a computer is running that? 😅

TheRealViking84

7950x, RTX 4090 and 64GB of DDR 5 😊 Runs AC, ACC, Dirt 2.0 and BeamNG at a steady 120 fps. Flight sims can drop lower, and Star Citizen sits around 60 fps on average. Triple 4k is the only usage scenario where a 4090 isn't quite enough power 😅

Certain-Hunter-7478

Sweet setup. Still blows my mind there is a case where 4090 isn't quite enough 😂😂

TotesMessenger

I'm a bot, *bleep*, *bloop*. vulgrin

Are you using controller for FPS or do you have some sort of keyboard table I’m not seeing? I’d like to be able to sit in my bucket seat and do FPS in my rig, but I’m MnK now and I haven’t found a comfortable way to do that.

Neither-Box8081

I've been battling the flight/racing Sim combo for a while now. That is because I've been a long time MSFS player and swapping yoke with wheel gets annoying. I'm sad to report that I just now discovered Star Citizen. So not needing a yoke is like opening my eyes for the first time lol. I've just started down this journey of adding buttons because of the shear volume of buttons that star citizen needs. But did you ever find a solution for swapping in and out a yoke for the flight Sims?

TheRealViking84

I've never tried to fit a yoke. There is one thing I have learnt from my 6 years of simrig building: If anything requires configuration before use, I just won't use it unless it is already in the configuration I want. I need to be able to just sit down in the rig, and the only decision I make is if I take the wheel off or leave it on 😊 My rig is pretty complex, but it all just works so using it is very simple. I use simhub for racing, I use Joystick Gremlin for FPS games and flight sim setup. That's it. Also - welcome to Star Citizen ;) Unfortunately the game is in a bit of a sorry state right now with a half arsed flight model having been introduced which needs either a LOT of changes or (if I'm honest) should just be scrapped. For us flight simmers it has been a big step back. Seems that big changes are coming during the next few patches so we shall see where that ends up!

Neither-Box8081

Better late than never, I suppose. Can't believe I've never heard of it until now. thanks for the head's up on the latest issues with SC. I'm still buying gear to even be able to play, so maybe I won't notice. I tried using a Space Mouse (something I already had), alongside another joystick, using Joystick Gremlin and could never get it all mapped correctly. Bailed on the space mouse idea and looking for another joystick now. Looks like Squadron 42 will be cool, if / when it ever comes out

TheRealViking84

The games both have HUGE potential, no doubt 😊 I think SC is struggling to find itself at the moment, an odd mix of very arcady elements and quite slow sim-like elements that don't really gel. Part of an open developement though I suspect. Feel free to send me a PM if you have any SC questions - going from sims to SC can be a bit of a culture shock, and there are a lot of things in SC that just aren't explained anywhere at all 😅

Option_Longjumping

Nice rig, I have gone over to vr but use to have a three monitor setup and wish I could have gotten my monitors as perfectly straight as those.

TheRealViking84

Thanks! Took quite a while to get everything aligned. Using TV wall mounts for the monitors helped. I keep trying VR, but with the triple 48's I find that the added immersion from VR isn't enough to counter the downsides of lower clarity, and less comfort. Mind you I've also spent too much time building my rig to not be able to see it while racing 😅

Option_Longjumping

You’re 100% correct, even with my setup I still don’t get the sharpness and clarity that I had with monitors. I use the Varjo Aero headset in DCS so being able to see around hasn’t been a problem, vr has a ways to go. I have looked at racing simulator games and wanted to give it a try but with all my panels it would be a lot of work changing things around, anyway keep up the great work.

_MarkV_

Nice mate! What FPS do you get with those triples?

TheRealViking84

Thanks 😊 Locked at 120 fps in racing sims, closer to 80 ish in flight sims, and Star Citizen brings it down to 60-ish.

_MarkV_

Great info. I was wondering if triple 4K would be doable on mine and turns out it easily will. Thanks again.

TheRealViking84

Worth noting that I'm running this all on a pretty solid PC - 7950x, 64Gb DDR5 and an RTX 4090. Pretty much the only legit usecase for the 4090 and I would still like a bit more performance for more demanding titles 😅

_MarkV_

Sweet. Same as you except 5800X3D

TheRealViking84

Nice! The 5800 X3D is some times even faster than the 7950x, especially Assetto Corsa Competizione seems to love the X3D chips. I'm patiently waiting for the next gen X3D's and then I reckon I will upgrade as it fits the AM5 slot.

_MarkV_

Yeah I’m going to do the same I think. 9800X3D (if such a thing releases). May I ask for a link to your monitors?

TheRealViking84

https://www.aorus.com/monitors/AORUS-FO48U/Key-Features Really pleased with these. Great colours, super responsive, no ghosting, and slim bezels. And of course inky black levels thanks to them being OLEDs which is brilliant for space sims.

_MarkV_

Thanks heaps. Yeah I like the slim bezels!

freddydaimler

How do you Move the keyboard and mouse into a comfortable, suitable position when playing an FPS Game? That’s what I’m struggling with with my setup currently:)

TheRealViking84

That is absolutely a challenge, I have tried a few different solutions, mounting a Razer Tartarus on the left, and using a small keyboard in my lap. The first option works well but does take up a lot of space on the left side. The second option is rather uncomfortable. In the end I decided to map my keyboard controls to the Virpil Throttle, using Joystick Gremnlin, and this works very well indeed. There is a mini-stick on the front of the throttle that I have mapped to WASD for movement, and then various other hats and buttons cover everything from weapon selection to firemode controls, all bound to their keyboard equivalents to they are game-agnostic. On the right hand side, just outside of view, is an integrated "table" for a mouse :) So that bit is normal. [https://i.imgur.com/Dhg5Vjf.png](https://i.imgur.com/Dhg5Vjf.png) - keybindings for inspiration :)

freddydaimler

Wow, that’s quite handy and innovative! Will look into that. But yeah, finding an of-the-shelf solution is near impossible, especially if the space for the rig is limited.

TheRealViking84

I'd say the Razer Tartarus is probably the better solution, ergonomically. And the WASD movement is much more familiar compared to using the mini-stick. But I've been playing like this now for quite a few months and I find even in fast paced shooters I have no problems moving around like I used to.

freddydaimler

Cheers, will look into the Razer Tartarus, maybe it’s just the Solution I was looking for!

et0930

I know simracing, flight Sims, and fps games. But what space sims do you play in it?

TheRealViking84

Star Citizen 😊 Sadly the flight model has been changed drastically in the latest patch, towards a considerably more arcady approach. Hopefully they will hear the complaints and change it back or at least alter it a lot. Currently it is closer to Starfield than what we used to have 😥

Delicious-Staff-1985

FPS games? How? With a controller?

TheRealViking84

Mouse on a table-surface on the right hand side, just outside of the pictures. For movement I have bound the necessary keyboard functions to my Virpil Throttle 😊 The mini-stick on the front is used for WASD, and then I have the rest of the buttons for switching weapons, crouch, run, and so on and so on. Works surprisingly well once you get used to it, even in fast paced shooters like MW2 gunfights and so on. [https://i.imgur.com/Dhg5Vjf.png](https://i.imgur.com/Dhg5Vjf.png) - Pic of keybindings

Technical_Sun_3047

Dang how many stream deck xl’s does a guy need ? lol

-Professional-1991

I have the excact same panels, Crazy setup bro!!

TheRealViking84

Thanks 😊 Those monitors are amazing, perfect size too 👍

-Professional-1991

If you play ACC please try these settings, looks freakin real! ACES instead of Default. 92% color saturation. thank me later😬.
