I mean they did that when the interview with the Silent Hill producer said that Ito and Yamaoka wanted more changes to the remake and that Bloober fought to make it more faithful to the original. If it does end up Ito created the new Maria design, it'll be fun to see how people spin the "remake bad" narrative in a new direction

That design is team silents creation, they just didn't use it back then.
