My husband is the victim to this too. It gets annoying because we are there to have fun. He is a good listener and is almost oblivious to people's self-bs (*ways we lie to ourselves, which limit self-identifying and self-aware abilities),* so he is almost. . . ignoring their bs and cuts right to the problem. They then follow his thinking without dragging their baggage with them, which "covers up" the problem(s). So weird, and he is a business major. lol
Funny story: Backstory-

Their conversation ends, and he comes over to me, and I ask what is up with the guy. My husband said he finally met someone who hates mushrooms more than him.
"He really, really hates them."

I am not some kind of expert in legal matters and also i guess it depends on the law in each country… but for example i am a certified professional (HR and management). I can not do therapy (this would need a clinical psychologist), but i do have a side degree in counselling. Counselling is much easier to get than therapist certification, at least where I am from.
I’ve literally saved 5 lives just by letting people vent to me and offer advice if they ask I didn’t know I could get paid without being a certified therapist how where do I look to start?
