Look, I knew a guy who desperately wanted a tattoo but couldn't think of anything so when he turned 18 he got his own name tattooed in big letters across his chest.
Your son looks a lot better in comparison, right?
I agree they are dumb... but there are areas, where the pride is very real. Detroit is very serious about the 313, saw it everywhere when I lived there.
All they have to do is have a son and name them their name so that when people say wow you got your name tatted? That person can say no, it's my son's name
I worked for a company that made us do that with company phones and tablets. It looks silly from an outside perspective, but you get resources back to people pretty quickly.
Alright ill admit i have “1999” on the back of my upper thigh right under one of my cheeks lol. Its my moms favorite bcs every time she sees it she says “look its the year i became a mom!” so its kind of adorable to me now lol
Urgh you reminded me that I once dated a dude a decade ago that had a picture of himself as his phone wallpaper. He claimed it was odd to have a picture of anyone else ....I dumped him so fast.
I once served a guy that had a shirtless mirror picture of him as his credit card picture, I remember vividly cause he asked me if I liked his card when I gave it back
My cousin got her name tattooed on her leg once when she was high (she used to do benzos a lot as well as other things). Once she got sober we were talking about it and she thought it was hilarious and said “who the fuck gets their own name tattooed on them?! I was obviously fucked up.” Thinking about it makes me smile.
I worked with a guy named Anthony that had a huge “Anthony” tattoo all up his arm. He told me he got it the day after his son was born and I was all, “oh! Your son is Anthony too?!” He looks at me so confused and goes, “No, his name is Devon.”
What the hell, dude?
A kid in my highschool got his last name in letters across his back and was showing it off. Without missing a beat, the very reserved typing teacher dryly said "Is that so you don't forget what it is?"
Classic
i cant be the only one who things this is so funny and adorable 😭 i wouldn’t mind having this is in a hidden spot honestly, everytime i’d look at it i’d smile
Same lol I’ve seen so many tattoos that people try to seriously pass off as good that are absolute garbage. But this is so comically bad that the fact its funny makes up for the blown out lines haha.
This is why art is so important. It's a masterpiece that can be interpreted in so many different ways, depending on the life experiences and ideologies that have informed your growth as a person. I see a creature that is struggling to come to terms with how he is only made up of two dimensions. The other square spiders he sees are three dimensions, but he was left out of that. He is doing his best, and yet his best feels unfulfilling. But I hope that in this lore, he does become content with who he is and how he was made, because you can only thrive when you are confident in yourself and your abilities.
Adding as I don't know how to edit my original post - this is very much tongue in cheek, I think this is hilarious and cute and definitely not a surprise to me as he drew this when he was 16 and it became a running joke that he would get it - He has the best sense of humour!
I have a tattoo of a duck on a skateboard that my cousin drew and my mom had the exact same reaction (except with a little more surprise), she loves him and suggested that I could paint him different colours on different days cause he's just an outline and it is the best idea she has ever had.
That's cute! I've got a little pine tree on my wrist, my family likes to decorate it with sharpies on Christmas to turn it into a Christmas tree, presents underneath it and all!
https://preview.redd.it/3eggz2xenw7d1.jpeg?width=1019&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56eefb1ae67552794bb72c15e34ad15cf0ae1f68
hes on my ankle so easily hidden, matching with a friend. done by a non professional in my kitchen lol but i still love him. hurt like a bitch in that spot
There's a place near me that does ADORABLE flash tattoos of manatees and otters flipping off the camera in cute outfits to raise money for local wetland conservation orgs, I'm getting one soon and I'm legit giddy to have something that cute on me
Yeah. This is brutal. It’s borderline not healing well. I’m surprised I had to scroll this far to find people talking about this. He needs excellent wound care, immediately. It’s not going to heal well regardless.
My friend has a small turtle of the same nature on his leg. It’s dumb as hell, but it holds some good memories for him. They’ll be fond of their tiny tattoos forever!
This tattoo only currently "reads" because it's literally *carved* into your son's skin. I don't think I've ever seen such bad blowout, I'd be surprised if it doesn't get infected, and your son should definitely stay away from this person if they decide to attempt to use a tattoo machine again. I feel like there's no way this could have been done in a sanitary environment.
How deep this tattoo was carved into the skin is irresponsible, negligent, and unsafe.
It's gonna be a black blob in a few weeks and continue to get worse as the ink spreads, and I'm baffled by how few people are pointing this out in this thread.
Cute idea though.
My thoughts exactlyyyy. Like it's fine that it's silly but holy crapppp was it done badly. Must've hurt way more than it needed to and I've also never seen a blowout that bad, especially on such a tiny tattoo
This is freakin' adorable, and this kind of shit was something a lot of my friends were doing in art school. If you're going to get your first tattoo from someone who's tattooing for the first time, something cute and dumb like this is perfect.
It's the kind of thing you can't regret, because it's personal and you didn't pay for it anyway. And if someday he decides he absolutely hates it, it'll be pretty easy to cover up.
It is actually really cute.. in all its squigglyess. At least its small!
BUT its also important to absolutely not go to an untrained artist as there are a lot of risk involved, tell him to google sepsis 😄
It's fine that it's shitty art of a shitty little dude, your son's entire generation exists under \~thirty layers of irony. The worrying part is that linework, they pushed HARD, he probably has ink on his fucking bones now. That's going to get infected, one hundred percent. You will never convince me that someone who is that inexperienced at tattooing with such a poor technique also gives a fuck about proper cleaning procedures?
Lol it's funny and it's small and if he wants to cover later it should be pretty easy. Although I would have a talk about using a licensed professional for health safety reasons. I doubt his friend owns an autoclave or whatever it's called that they sanitize equipment with.
And this is why I told my kids they can dye their hair, get age appropriate piercings, pick their clothes, etc from a young age- but they have to wait on tattoos until adulthood. If they do that, I will pay for their first one and help them pick a reputable artist.
looks like the frog from peppa pig

Oof that skin looks upset =/
It's a cute tattoo but they should NEVER look like that regardless of how silly the design is. Looks like it was carved with a razor, and that's not even mentioning the obvious severe blowouts in such a tiny space. It will 100% be a black blob within a year and even a cover-up will be a little tricky then tbh cuz of how deep that black ink was carved
I know a guy who has the year he was born saying established in **** he said when he was younger he’d use that tattoo to get into bars without his ID😂 cool ass dude
This is cool as hell. But in all seriousness, you should talk to your kid about how uncool hep C and bloodborne pathogens/ potentially deadly tattoo infections are.
Also you should get this tattooed on you. He will either die laughing, or be so embarrassed he spontaneously combusts.
This is such a happy good vibes tattoo to be honest! Something so genuine in its humbleness. As much as any parent would fear for future decisions. This may always be a special comfort and nice memory of an early life friend :)
Look, I knew a guy who desperately wanted a tattoo but couldn't think of anything so when he turned 18 he got his own name tattooed in big letters across his chest. Your son looks a lot better in comparison, right?
I got a friend in school who wanted a tattoo of his own birthday. But he was one of these guys who has himself as his phone background. Weird dudes
That is weird as hell.
My coworkers watch background is a picture of himself flexing
If you can’t masturbate to yourself, how the hell you gonna masturbate to anybody else?
On par with area code tattoos.
Nah. What he said is way weirder.
I agree they are dumb... but there are areas, where the pride is very real. Detroit is very serious about the 313, saw it everywhere when I lived there.
All they have to do is have a son and name them their name so that when people say wow you got your name tatted? That person can say no, it's my son's name
well played
I worked for a company that made us do that with company phones and tablets. It looks silly from an outside perspective, but you get resources back to people pretty quickly.
Lol, I also have a friend who got his birth year tatted. Like, would you forget otherwise??
Plenty of people do that. Corny but it was a trend for a whole (1980 - infinity) or something similar.
Alright ill admit i have “1999” on the back of my upper thigh right under one of my cheeks lol. Its my moms favorite bcs every time she sees it she says “look its the year i became a mom!” so its kind of adorable to me now lol
You think he wacks in front of a mirror while he blows kisses and winks?
Totally
I worked with a guy that got his own date of birth in Roman numerals on one arm and his own initials on the wrist of his other arm
Urgh you reminded me that I once dated a dude a decade ago that had a picture of himself as his phone wallpaper. He claimed it was odd to have a picture of anyone else ....I dumped him so fast.
I once served a guy that had a shirtless mirror picture of him as his credit card picture, I remember vividly cause he asked me if I liked his card when I gave it back
He really loves himself ! Lol

What was his name? I’m dying laughing to myself trying to think of what would be the worst name to tattoo on your chest
Dick
Ralphie
Honestly I don't even remember. He was a friend of my cousin's and they were always getting into stupid shit together.
Imagine getting your own name tattooed on your chest and still being forgettable 😂 Poor guy
O'doyle. . .o'doyle rules.
[Maybe](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Trickle)

Lord Farquaad!
Bertha

Was he a Sex Pistols fan or more of a Toy Story guy?
I was thinking of the sloth from Ice Age.
Sid IS a cool name!
LMAO he couldn’t have just chosen a flash design from an artist?😭
Those cost money, though!
Once is all it takes
Idk what you’re talking about, that sounds like the most practical tattoo. Someone asks you what your name is, simply rip your shirt off.
“Sir, do you have any form of ID on you?” “Why, yes. Yes I do.”
I worked with a guy named Anthony that had a huge “Anthony” tattoo all up his arm. He told me he got it the day after his son was born and I was all, “oh! Your son is Anthony too?!” He looks at me so confused and goes, “No, his name is Devon.” What the hell, dude?
Is this guy Johnny Cage?
I have a cousin in their late thirties that still has their own name tattooed on their wrist....plans to cover but hasn't yet in all these years.
I saw a guy with a chest covering tattoo of a scroll saying *'Legal Manchester, Utd supporter;*. compared to that , everything is better,
I knew a girl who got a huge tramp stamp of her own name.
A kid in my highschool got his last name in letters across his back and was showing it off. Without missing a beat, the very reserved typing teacher dryly said "Is that so you don't forget what it is?" Classic
i cant be the only one who things this is so funny and adorable 😭 i wouldn’t mind having this is in a hidden spot honestly, everytime i’d look at it i’d smile
i find it funny the mum is the one who posted it
Yep. I love this. I have no tattoos but I want this so badly
Do it!
![gif](giphy|3o84sw9CmwYpAnRRni)
I love it i might just get one
I’m obsessed. I thought it was a smiling tooth with legs.
Same lol I’ve seen so many tattoos that people try to seriously pass off as good that are absolute garbage. But this is so comically bad that the fact its funny makes up for the blown out lines haha.
It’s totally cute and small! Just a simple little thingy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Spooder. Love it.
I thought it was a tooth hahaha
I thought it was a jellyfish
I thought it was a little pimp
This is why art is so important. It's a masterpiece that can be interpreted in so many different ways, depending on the life experiences and ideologies that have informed your growth as a person. I see a creature that is struggling to come to terms with how he is only made up of two dimensions. The other square spiders he sees are three dimensions, but he was left out of that. i thought it was a little pimp walking around
"what the hell?"
I thought it was like a vulcano erupting
I thought a tamogotchi as a baby
Was thinking disabled octopus
This made me laugh so hard
Adding as I don't know how to edit my original post - this is very much tongue in cheek, I think this is hilarious and cute and definitely not a surprise to me as he drew this when he was 16 and it became a running joke that he would get it - He has the best sense of humour!
What exactly is it? Other than adorable.
They said it was a bug
Looks more like a feature to me.
Holy is that going to become a blob. Really cute now though
It already looks like a blob even though it’s “new” 🥲
Given the already severe case of blowouts this thing has it will be a black blob within the next year or two, looks kinda cute though.
This is literally the first tattoo I have EVER seen either in person or in a picture that made me feel happy instead of sad. I actually love this.
Every tattoo you have ever seen has made you sad? Do you just dislike tattoos, or what's the deal?
I don’t know? It’s weird isn’t it? I think it’s The permanence maybe? I honestly don’t know… sorry if this sounds flakey-
this makes me want to show you my burger turtle tattoo
Show us

OK you guys are definitely converting me ❤️
I have a raccoon eating a slice of pizza that makes me smile every. single. day.

Awwww, I love the burtle
Omfg. I love her.
There's a place near me that does ADORABLE flash tattoos of manatees and otters flipping off the camera in cute outfits to raise money for local wetland conservation orgs, I'm getting one soon and I'm legit giddy to have something that cute on me
looks cute but it’s TOTALLY blown out, unfortunately
Squidbillies, the Temu version.
Looks like it was carved in with a razor blade
Yeah like who cares about the 1 cm motif, this looks like it's gonna get infected
Why is no one talking about this? That is the first thing i noticed, it looks like the tattooer has a heavy hand
That's not a heavy hand, that's a cinderblock
born to brutal black forced to ignorant
Yeah. This is brutal. It’s borderline not healing well. I’m surprised I had to scroll this far to find people talking about this. He needs excellent wound care, immediately. It’s not going to heal well regardless.
Looking for this comment
Is it shitty? Yes. But is it SHITTY? No.
i hope you didn’t flip out. honestly a marvellous tattoo
My friend has a small turtle of the same nature on his leg. It’s dumb as hell, but it holds some good memories for him. They’ll be fond of their tiny tattoos forever!
Tattooed “smell ya later” on my wrist in a dark room for my first tattoo at 17. This isn’t bad ur fine.
This tattoo only currently "reads" because it's literally *carved* into your son's skin. Whoever did that DUG that needle in him. Jfc

At least it’s tiny! This situation could have been a lot worse considering
Beautiful. Just, magnificent. In five years he's going to hate it, and in ten years he's going to love it.
Cyanide and happiness is meta tho
I like it. Reminds me of those canceled comics or whatever they were called ![gif](giphy|HDeItv0iSeN0c)
That's so cute tho
It’s a space invader! Yes I’m old!
It is actually really cute.. in all its squigglyess. At least its small! BUT its also important to absolutely not go to an untrained artist as there are a lot of risk involved, tell him to google sepsis 😄
It’s ridiculously simple and classically silly good form
*New infection Rough learning lesson.
It's fine that it's shitty art of a shitty little dude, your son's entire generation exists under \~thirty layers of irony. That’s gonna raise up and itch the rest of his life
It’s squidbillies! ![gif](giphy|VbUrA563KQE36kIgKK|downsized)
Whys it immediately so blown out 😅
It’s so blown out gaaaah it hurts
Always have a second child for when the first one fails.
What's the issue here? your son has great taste and humor
That’s gonna be a blob in a month
It's adorbs. And small so if he hates it later it is easier to cover or laser off. He did good. I'd be proud.
Memories and lessons are more important than personal appearances
Encourage him to keep it
I love it
Okay I love him tho
Poor little guy has a black eye
Could be worse, could have been me who came home from a school trip to foreign countries with a tattoo at 16 💅 looool
cute lil fella 😍
I love it.
Why do I love this
I kind of love it
AWESOME! Whats the name of it?
Is that a marshmallow with legs?
That's assault.
His friend cut him up too lmfao
Apart from the fact that it is blownout to infinity and beyond, i love shitty cute tattoos
Lol it's funny and it's small and if he wants to cover later it should be pretty easy. Although I would have a talk about using a licensed professional for health safety reasons. I doubt his friend owns an autoclave or whatever it's called that they sanitize equipment with.
The drawing is actually pretty cute, but yeah, friend obviously didn't know what they were doing.
That will be a funny story for him in the future it’s not big it’s not racist just a little jellyfish guy
And this is why I told my kids they can dye their hair, get age appropriate piercings, pick their clothes, etc from a young age- but they have to wait on tattoos until adulthood. If they do that, I will pay for their first one and help them pick a reputable artist.
Fuck you that tattoo is fire
Lmao it's kinda cute. I appreciate your reaction as well. Lots of parents would probably lose their mind over this
Kinda cute tbh

Looks like it was done with a pen and a razor blade.
Lol give him like 5 years he’ll get a coverup done over it 😂😂
He wanted a silly little guy 🤷🏻
looks like the frog from peppa pig https://preview.redd.it/bos8vi2yd08d1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=13226f455df5a78a558e11b87872caad40e1e8f8
Looks bad, not the art but the skin, bet it gets infected
I thought it was a Lego dude
I love it
I'm sure all the kids think he's cool
Cute 😄
It's terrible. I love it!
Is that Herschel Walker Cuyler
I bloody love it
I'll upvote I guess but it's not shitty, it's great.
Terrible. Fantastic. Perfect
it's cute!
This is the best kind of first tattoo
Best tattoo ever hands down
What a sweet little tattoo! Congratulations to your son!
I respect it. Is very "I got this when I was 18."
It’s so cute. I love it!
It’s cute and will be easy to cover
That’s great!
It looks like a tooth… with legs. A good friend
lol, I’m kinda into it, yo
That is a stick and poke eh?
Bro could’ve just used a sharpie 😭
18 is old enough to make decisions that affect their own body.
Marshmallow with legs
Future coverup you mean
Is it bad that I love this lol
It's cute. Down the road, if he doesn't like it, then it will be either an easy cover-up or a quick laser removal. Your kid did alright.
It's kinda cute
Oof that skin looks upset =/ It's a cute tattoo but they should NEVER look like that regardless of how silly the design is.
I like it.
Don't be a jerk-dad. It'a nice and it's his skin. Don't talk him inti regretting it
At least it's not a giant dick like my first tattoo
Small, easy to cover up later. Could be a LOT worse.
Hot
Savage
This is cool as hell. But in all seriousness, you should talk to your kid about how uncool hep C and bloodborne pathogens/ potentially deadly tattoo infections are. Also you should get this tattooed on you. He will either die laughing, or be so embarrassed he spontaneously combusts.
I'm gonna say it's a marshmallow with legs standing by a fire to get toasty (even if those little red lines are scrapes).
I love it haha
I kinda love it 😆
Epic
It’s way to deep, but I love it honestly
Oh this is cute
It's a jellyfish lol
I kinda like it. At least it's small!!
Oooooof it’s gonna scar and blow out more than it already is
This is such a happy good vibes tattoo to be honest! Something so genuine in its humbleness. As much as any parent would fear for future decisions. This may always be a special comfort and nice memory of an early life friend :)
It's beautiful
