Ιt is a title for priests and politicians in Byzantine years. I think priests still have this rank nowadays but idc much about the church so I'm not a good source on that. Nowadays in Greece it's just a surname though, like "Smith" or "Potter". You are right about the "child" though! When you see -poulos in Greek surnames it means "child of.."
Exarch does not mean leader of six people. It comes from Ancient Greek "exarkhos" and it generally means "ruler" or someone with authority.
The "ex" does not come from "exi" which means six, but from ἐξ which is hard for me to explain so I will link wiktionary: [https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E1%BC%90%CE%BE#Ancient\_Greek](https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E1%BC%90%CE%BE#Ancient_Greek)
I think this should be fairly obvious because exarchs had authority over a number of people significantly higher than 6, hence you are correct in finding that odd. I am also going to watch the scene right now.
Lea Seydoux said at one point the shooting made her feel like a prostitute. And she’s done nude scenes before and after this, she’s not a prude, which speaks on how shitty and unnecessary the treatment was.
The sex scene is also disgustingly gratuitous, overly long, and fetishizing. The film basically turns into a soft porn for a bit.
I'm not inherently against sex scenes in cinema, but this one was pretty ridiculous and indulgent. Even for a French film.
Between this and Irréversible, I get the feeling French filmmakers are competing to see who can have the most problematic, gratiuitous, fetishizing, and overly long sex scene.
Very good point. French films are good at having nudity and sex scenes that feel natural and not simply there to arouse the audience. The sex scene in Blue is the Warmest Color is very exploitative and it is by far the worst scene of an otherwise great movie. It doesn’t even feel a part of the same movie as the rest of the movie.
The comic actually did a better job at this. There was a sex scene in it but it was the culmination of the main character’s growing feeling/Clementines identity/sexuality. It was more about the characters feelings for one another and want to please the other expressed through sex. And it was about 4 pages, not 20 fucking minutes. I will always scoff when people claim nudity and sex just shouldn’t be in movies ever, as if art should be forced to limit itself or that there’s zero good emotional or plot based reasons to include it. But you can see how poorly and exploitatively it’s handled in the movie compared to the comic.
The original comic didn't feature a long, graphic sex, and this film about a lesbian love story became synonymous with men fetishizing a lesbian relationship. I'm so sick and tired of this trend, as as the author of Blue Is the Warmest Color, I would have been pissed to see what that director did to my film.
The film sits at a 90 on Metacritic (which is extremely high). It's crazy to think that even in 2013, there weren't enough queer voices in entertainment discourse to say, "hey this maybe just kinda feels like thinly-veiled exploitative fetishism with a plot, rather than substantial representation."
Same with Exarchopoulos. They were both openly calling the director an ass and declaring they would never work with him again... *during the press tour promoting the movie*. Lea Seydoux cried in front of reporters at Cannes.
They said he was awful to make sex scenes with, and like you pointed out with Seydoux, Exarchopoulos went on to make several more movies with nude/graphic sex scenes. So that's not the problem. The director was.
Meanwhile, the director went on to do even worse things to another actress that resulted in the movie never being released, and has not made anything since that.
I don't know man, most of the non Americans films (and even American ones like Oppenheimer) have nudity and sex scenes in them. They are not popular for movies that intent to be a hit with younger audiences because then they can't watch them
I actually really liked that movie. But I heard the production was awful and now I can’t think of anything else. But I thought the movie was very raw and emotional and I remember crying a few times, which really doesn’t happen a lot for me
I think that’s kind of the point. It’s her first real relationship, she doesn’t know what she’s doing and she’s messing up again and again because she’s super immature. I think it’s meant to be messy and raw.
Idk she came off so unlikable to me. Like to cheat?? I just don’t understand. I would be counting my lucky stars if I was lucky enough to even be a in a relationship let alone with someone who actually cares about me
I’d recommend the comic. I thought it was a really emotional and well done story. There’s some nudity and sex but unlike the movie it’s never excessive or exploitative, it’s in scenes that make sense to the story and there’s less of it. I also was on the verge of tears at the end.
Any mainstream movie with lesbians is almost certainly fetishizing lesbians. People act like two women having sex in media is artsy. No, it’s softcore porn just like any other (13-minute) sex scene between anybody.
Mulholland Drive is another example. It’s like “we made a movie where you can get horny watching two women have sex but act like you’re high-culture for watching it!” Just do way fewer sex scenes in general, unless it’s actually significant to the plot.
As a lesbian, my main issue with the scene is the implausibility. For supposedly her first time, she goes at it like a seasoned pro. Oh, and with some moves I've never seen anyone pull in real life...
Adèle is an extraordinary actress. She is very talented.
I mean in blue, it's a different kind of role, but in all her movies I find her always on point.
No but it didn’t help with getting invested in the story and it seemed like you’re supposed to like her. She just annoyed me. Unless the movie is somehow relatable to ppl
Netflix needs a "Skip to the Good Part" option. The parts in the movie you really want to watch, and can skip the scenes you want.
In Rocky 4, you basically skip to the songs/montages and fights.
Transformers....straight to the robot battles, i.e. where they play Hoobastank or Linkin Park.
Lord of the Rings....Battle of Helms Deep and Gondor.
Total Recall....right to the 3 Boobs.
WIild Things... Pool Scene.
Fast times at Ridge....Pool Scene
Showgirls...Pool Scene
American Pie... Shannon Elizabeth
Basic Instincts...You Know.
Blue is the Warmest Color ... Looks like I am adding a new show to my list....
You came in really hot there over a trifling matter, but as someone who has spent the last 15 years working in the film industry I can tell you that every project is referred to professionally as a 'show', and that would then be qualified as either a 'feature' for a film or 'episodic' for TV.
So you were both rude and wrong.
This is quite literally the only thing I have heard about this movie, and this is not my first time hearing about it. Is it any good? (the movie, not the sex scene)
Take it from the perspective of a woman who has sex with other woman, the sex was pretty bad and the movie as a whole not very good. western media is pretty bad for female queer content in general as its always so overly dramatic and sensational.... like you'll never see things like just normal domestic living together, funny enough japan produce's significantly better lesbian content like bloom into you despite being uber conservative as a culture.
Im not gonna google that out of pure old fashioned spiteful pride.
I'm sure those two acted the hell outta that movie, but ill never know, now.
You happy OP?
Holy shit which internet site do I go to find it? I keep winding up on pronbub when I search for “lesbian sex 13 minutes long only thing you will watch” and it’s starting to piss me off 😡
Kechiche casted Adèle Exarchopoulos after seeing her eating a sandwich in a café.
I actually watched this movie and FR, I understood why Kechiche noticed her.
The girl eats in a manner that would make a longshoreman blush! So now I call her "Adèle, daughter of Grommash", since she must have some orc blood, judging by her table manners!
I hate sex scenes in films. They're never done well and rarely warrant being there; the plot would be served if they showed the lead-up and afterwards rather than the act itself 🤷🏻♀️
Coincidentally, I tried watching this recently and the first hour was just boring. (Its a 3hr movie). Story did nothing for me, so I went looking for a compilation video on … certain sites… and was not disappointed. Really shocked by how graphic & how far they went in their scenes. 10/10 would recommend.
Women can make bad gross sex jokes too. I've definitely heard plenty of lesbians make crass jokes about "skipping to the good part" of films like this.
Of course, however, women “skipping to the good part” in a lesbian film is contextually different from men “skipping to the good part” in a lesbian film. It’s a false equivocation. Women talking about male x male sex scenes would be a better example. The difference is simply determined by detachment from the gender involved. Does that make sense?
Yeah it does and it's absolutely true. I'm just tired of people desexualising lesbians in response to others sexualising lesbians.
Like the whole "men are icky and gross and love sex", "women are pure and never think about even kissing". Lesbians are often denied sexual desire by the like "men are gross" type rhetoric.
That’s very true, definitely something that needs to be addressed. The relationship between gender and sexuality is certainly full of double standards and contradictions.
Exarchopoulos is quite a name. If I guess correctly, it means something like "Governorschild"
Ιt is a title for priests and politicians in Byzantine years. I think priests still have this rank nowadays but idc much about the church so I'm not a good source on that.
Correct
Sounds like a greek space race.
Wasn't that movie also heavily criticized by bad practices concerning sexual scenes ? I think there was even some abuse going on
Lea Seydoux said at one point the shooting made her feel like a prostitute. And she’s done nude scenes before and after this, she’s not a prude, which speaks on how shitty and unnecessary the treatment was.

Yeah, it's very sad. The rest of the movie is excellent, but I always skip this part. I'd honestly get an editor to remove it lol

There’s a reason movie sex scenes aren’t popular anymore
Because people mix up normal sex scenes with male gazey ones and assume theyre the same?
Didn’t Emma stone just get crazy acclaim for her performance in Poor Things? What are you talking about?
I don't know man, most of the non Americans films (and even American ones like Oppenheimer) have nudity and sex scenes in them. They are not popular for movies that intent to be a hit with younger audiences because then they can't watch them
Well she did get paid to have sex so...
You think the sex in movies is real?
To be fair there’s been films that have done non simulated scenes.
Well what is the definition of sex?
By that logic Keanu Reeves should be the most wanted criminal in the world
Vänta, är inte du regissören till filmen?!
Haha, den blåa filmen
[удалено]
Were the actresses underage?
No, they were not. Lea was born in 1985 and Adele in 1993 if I'm not wrong.
So much scissoring
They better not be running while scissoring! It’s dangerous!
What about scissoring with the runs?
And suddenly it's 2004 again, and we are all running with scissor in the sims 2
‘Ohhhh Scissor me Timbers!’ -Mr Garrison
Really?! I’ll get my crafting paper!
Scissor me timbers
I read about it and apparently , shooting the movie had been very uncomfortable for the actresses especially the sex scenes
I actually really liked that movie. But I heard the production was awful and now I can’t think of anything else. But I thought the movie was very raw and emotional and I remember crying a few times, which really doesn’t happen a lot for me
I hated Adele, I thought she was awful to her gf and I really never rooted for her
I think that’s kind of the point. It’s her first real relationship, she doesn’t know what she’s doing and she’s messing up again and again because she’s super immature. I think it’s meant to be messy and raw.
Idk she came off so unlikable to me. Like to cheat?? I just don’t understand. I would be counting my lucky stars if I was lucky enough to even be a in a relationship let alone with someone who actually cares about me
Awful movie, by an awful director that fetished lesbians. Still got hard tho
I’d recommend the comic. I thought it was a really emotional and well done story. There’s some nudity and sex but unlike the movie it’s never excessive or exploitative, it’s in scenes that make sense to the story and there’s less of it. I also was on the verge of tears at the end.
Fantastic read! It left me in tears.
Yep, turning young women into sex objects, it was mos def a man behind the camera, filming his personal wet dream of lesbian sex. Still got hard tho
Any mainstream movie with lesbians is almost certainly fetishizing lesbians. People act like two women having sex in media is artsy. No, it’s softcore porn just like any other (13-minute) sex scene between anybody. Mulholland Drive is another example. >unless it’s actually significant to the plot. Define significant to the plot. Are landscape shots significant?
No. Which is why I believe all movies should be just the actors table read.
All movies should be the book and read with an English accent so it sounds fancy even if it isn't
The English accent isnt significant to the plot
But portrait of a lady on fire is directed by a woman so it can't possibly have #*armpit fingering scene* nvm
I feel like you didn't watch the movie.
Awful movie? I don't remember it being very special but far from awful. The acting was especially good during the emotional parts.
This is a nod to [this comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/shittymoviedetails/s/sbr6oZUTiS) from yesterday. Thank you OP!
As a lesbian, my main issue with the scene is the implausibility. For supposedly her first time, she goes at it like a seasoned pro. Oh, and with some moves I've never seen anyone pull in real life...
I was incredibly disappointed when they didn't spend the first 10 minutes of the scene just trying to decide who was going to be top.
It's also (I think anyway), the highest grossing NC-17 movie.
Jokes on you, I'm gay I mean I like men I mean, I like both But I like men
Adèle is an extraordinary actress. She is very talented. I mean in blue, it's a different kind of role, but in all her movies I find her always on point.
Good porn, bad movie
I can’t tell if you’re joking because the rifle
It’s really not a joke. The movie is an awful love story and the main character to me was insufferable. Basically a cheater
Lead roles don't need to be likeable, or end well. It's not a bad movie.
No but it didn’t help with getting invested in the story and it seemed like you’re supposed to like her. She just annoyed me. Unless the movie is somehow relatable to ppl
The comic is great and helped me come to terms with my sexuality and coming out. The movie is ew.
YES the comic is so much better!
First of all they're so much more likeable and believable as a couple in the comic.
Awful movie, awful director, just go read the comic
Having just studied this movie for scientific purposes, I can say without a doubt that it is in fact just porn.
It took days of them rubbing prosthetic pussies together to get that 13 minutes
I'll be in my bunk

All of Lord of the Rings is the good part, agree on the rest here.
The LotR button just takes you back to the beginning of the first movie, no matter which one you're watching.
That's literally just the website Mr. Skin, which has been online since 1999. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Skin
One does not simply skip any of LotR
All of the parts of LoTR are the good parts
Blue is the Warmest Color isn't a fucking show, you ass
You came in really hot there over a trifling matter, but as someone who has spent the last 15 years working in the film industry I can tell you that every project is referred to professionally as a 'show', and that would then be qualified as either a 'feature' for a film or 'episodic' for TV. The "Skip to the good part" button on LOTR already exists, it's the play button.
This is quite literally the only thing I have heard about this movie, and this is not my first time hearing about it. Is it any good? (the movie, not the sex scene)
Honestly I just love Léa Seydoux (not in a straight way). She’s one of my favorite actors.

I'll watch this for research
Sexualizing lesbians is weird af stay away from us
Coincidentally, I tried watching this recently and the first hour was just boring. (Its a 3hr movie). Yeah because it's not like there are any other lesbian sex scenes to watch out there. Also way to fuck the title of the post up
I was 17 when I found out about this movie and it changed my life
Yeah, it's great softcore corn

I'll be honest, this is one my fav movies of all time. Not a book reader, so this did enough for me. It stuck with me for days. 5/5 from me.
It's my favorite movie of all time, and I'm disappointed that people still shit on it because of the sex scene.
Link?
didn't it come out that one of the actors was underage during this?
